SHORTENED
" The superhero and villain of the city find themselves caught in a web of feelings with one specific human being at the center of it. Both trying to romance the human without alerting them of their true identities, can these super-beings harness the ability to keep 'work' life and romance separate? "
EXTENDED
Their breakup was harsh, really harsh. Which can only be expected when such a large secret is being kept between two people. All the lies that were being thrown on top of one another in an effort to keep the secret a secret, broke them. Without honesty or trust in a relationship, how can there even be one? Muse A knew that getting into a relationship with a regular human being was asking for heartache, it's not as if they could simply admit to being the masked hero of the city. They had to keep their identity under wraps, hidden. For they had far too many enemies to worry about, if they had somehow managed to discover what identity they used when walking the streets as a seeming civilian, they would be able to find who they cared about, who was important to them. But for this person, they were willing to risk it, at first. Trying their best to be the best partner they could be to this person who deserved the world on a platter, while also balancing trying to save the city from threats. A lot of dates were missed, a lot of lies were told, it was especially hard to come up with an excuse on the spot out of breath and with wrinkled clothing. It was no wonder that their partner had finally had enough and sent Muse A packing. They could only assume what Muse B was thinking about them, how it had seemed like they had been cheating on them.
Muse B wanted to ignore the signs, the signs that were flaming red. The missed dates, missed calls, only being able to see each other when it was really early in the morning. Even then, their time together was sparse. Muse A just so happened to have to leave in the middle of dinner or game night almost every time. Things were great at the beginning, sweet and perfect. The honeymoon phase some might call it. After a year, they had decided to move in together. Or rather, Muse B suggested it and Muse A didn't voice any real opposition. But, looking back on it now, that is where things started going downhill. Muse A always seemed so tense, as if they were just waiting for something to jump out and bite them. Guilty consciences always scare easier. They were also gone a lot during the night, something Muse B only found out about after waking up to being left alone in their bed on numerous occasions. In a city that was full of crime, it made them feel rather unsafe, and more than a bit scared. Of course, they could fight for themselves and they would, but the presence of a partner was always a nice thing to have. But theirs always seemed gone. Eventually, Muse B had grown tired of the lies Muse A always told, none of them making sense. They always came home smelling like sweat and their clothes were wrinkled. Sometimes days would go by where they didn't see each other and Muse A would claim it was a spur-of-the-moment business trip. They had had enough, they wanted a partner that would actually be there for them and it seemed like that partner wasn't Muse A.
Muse C met Muse A months after the breakup, at their work specifically, they were being hired to work on a project together. It didn't take long for Muse C to start falling for Muse B, more than likely for the same reasons Muse A had. They just had a strong, magnetic charm that could pull anyone to their knees and willingly. They met often over the course of the project, and Muse C tried their best to get Muse B to go on a date with them over and over again, but their schedules never seemed to align well enough for it to happen. Until one day Muse B was feeling more lonely than normal, after the break up they had thrown themselves into their work entirely. They still lived in the same apartment that they lived in with Muse A, their memories still lingered, the bitter ones especially. They were a little weak and a little drunk, but they called Muse C, half expecting them to be just like Muse A and say they were too busy to bother with them, but they didn't. They actually came to their apartment, almost instantly.
Unknowingly, Muse B had called in the middle of a regular altercation between Muse A and Muse C. They had been fighting it off, trading wits and threats when Muse C suddenly ducked out of the fight after glancing at their phone. This is something that never happened, Muse C always fought till the bitter end when it came down to the two of them. Muse A didn't think about it too much however, in fact, they were a bit glad. They wanted to see Muse B, who had continuously ignored their calls and messages since the breakup. Which was understandable, but they wished that the situation was just easier. They didn't know what they were planning on doing, it's not like they could confess why they had been lying on the spot, but they went to their old apartment regardless. Muse A knocked on the door once before waiting a minute, they had raised their hand to knock once more before the door opened. Muse B was standing there, glaring at the mere sight of Muse A but they still looked breathtaking. Even with a death glint in their eye. But that wasn't what startled them the most, what truly startled them was the random person sitting on the couch, besides two glasses full of wine.
