EPILOGUE
Sam's Outfit
Summer 2021
The last year and a half had been a whirlwind for both of our families.
First off, last spring Elena had graduated high school and had chosen to go to a college in California rather than going off to Yale.
I was super proud and excited for her, and was kind of excited that she'd still be close enough so I could still see her from time to time.
Also, on July 26th 2020, my younger 'brother' Wyatt Patrick Schneider was born. While we weren't technically siblings, he felt like a little brother to me and it was just super exciting to have a younger sibling to play with and take care of.
Due to the pandemic, I hadn't gone on an actual date with Alex until a few months ago.
It was weird to see him again, but a good weird.
Ever since we'd both gotten vaccinated against COVID (and after school had let out), we'd spent nearly every day together.
Now, the summer was almost over and we were almost about to start our senior year of high school.
I was excited to be applying to colleges, but also kind of nervous just because I knew there was a chance that Alex and I would be going to different schools and I don't know what my life would be like if I didn't get to see him or FaceTime him everyday.
It was now August, and instead of our usual 'date' where we'd get food and watch a movie, Alex had asked me to meet him on the rooftop deck of our building.
After dressing in something that wasn't worn out pajamas, I grabbed my phone and left the apartment to go up to the roof deck.
"Sammie!" Alex exclaimed, his face lighting up as soon as he saw me.
"Hey!" I smiled, giving him a hug.
"Sorry for the change in plans for our date tonight", he said.
"It's fine! Why did you want me to come up here though? Ooh are we gonna stargaze? That's The Fault In Our Stars vibe I've been looking for", I laughed.
Alex laughed, "No, nothing like that. If I never have to hear another thing about that movie, I'll be happy".
"Rude!" I said, a grin on my face.
"Anyways, I asked you up here because I wanted to ask you something", Alex said, blushing.
I grinned, "Ok!"
"So, I know that things have changed a lot in this last year. And they're just going to change more, especially with college and senior year and everything. But I love you, Sammie. And I want to promise you that no matter what I'll always be here for you and I'll always love you", Alex said, smiling at me.
I smiled, tears in my eyes.
"This is for you", Alex said, pulling a ring box out of his pocket.
He opened it to reveal a super cute silver ring with a small diamond in it.
I gasped, "A promise ring?"
Alex nodded.
"I love you so much! And I always will!" I said, slipping the ring on my finger.
I leaned towards Alex and stood on my tip toes and kissed him.
After all the changes we'd been through over the years, all the highs and lows of our relationships, I was happier than ever to still have Alex at my side throughout it all.
I was in love with him, and through the years, that's the one thing that had never wavered or changed.
