Chapter 28
Reyansh
We reached the court by evening, it was way past the allotted time but I knew a judge and had bribed him to accommodate us, this late in the evening.
Once we signed the papers, I felt like an invisible tether was tied between us. I never gave much value to the concept of marriage but now, I could feel the significance of the marital bond.
Being tied to one person all your life and sharing in their happiness and sadness, being with them in richness and poverty, health and sickness, and being loyal to that one person who was made just for you and being together till death parts us. The feeling was otherworldly.
The witness to our marriage was Dhruv, my trusted Executive Assistant.
I did not want Krish to be our witness, because I did not know in what condition, Kyra and I, would be getting married. I did not know that she would be so amenable and cooperative.
I had prepared for the worst case scenario. I did not want Krish to witness Kyra like that, for both their sakes. Therefore I had sent Krish to a nearby resort with his friends for a sleepover and had asked him to return on the day after our wedding, that was tomorrow.
Where I would make them officially meet as Brother In-law and Sister In-law. I hoped they would get along with each other,
As for Kyra's family, I had specifically told them that, "I did not want any of them to be present at our wedding." I did not want to look at their faces and get reminded of the past and ruin my mental peace and be grumpy and angry and in return ruin Kyra's mood. As for Kyra's family's views on the matter, unsurprisingly they did not protest at all.
They just wanted her married before the deadline, so that the business would still remain in control of the Oberoi's. Her family had no issues in letting her go with me at all. Their lack of concern for her, enraged me. I knew, I made the right decision when, each family member dispersed to their rooms without even meeting Kyra and when she finally came down after getting ready and even while we left the house, she didn't mention any of them even once.
After the entire legal proceedings were done, we also exchanged rings. I got her a big, beautiful blue Sapphire which matched the colour of my eyes, the stone was set in a platinum ring and she got me a thick platinum ring.
Dhruv drove us back home and we sat silently during the car ride. I'm sure the magnitude and significance of what just happened was hitting us both. I couldn't believe she was officially my Wife, I had spent a long time planning for this but now it had actually occurred.
She was officially Mrs. Kyra Oberoi-Kapoor. A woman should have the right to choose wether she wanted to take her husband's name or retain her name. It is the freaking 21st century after all. But, deep down I was glad when she hyphenated her name herself. But even if she didn't, I wouldn't have mentioned anything about it
I didn't expect her to, but had definitely hoped she would. The earlier me would have been shocked that, I wished my wife would include my family name in her name, I found the practice meaningless and just an old tradition. But now that I was married, I liked knowing that my wife and I shared the same surname. There was a certain unexplainable pride that I felt. Maybe it was a guy thing.
Kyra had fallen asleep on the route back home, I then realised that she must be hungry. We hadn't had dinner. I didn't want to disturb her deep slumber, she looked so peaceful and tired.
So I decided to order the famous dishes from all the possible cuisines, that I could think of from various nearby restaurants, as I didn't know what she would be in the mood for. I ordered Italian - Pizza's, Mexican - Taco's and Burritos, Indian - samosas, Naan and Panner Tikka Masala, Chinese - Noodles and dumplings, Korean - Ramen and lastly Japanese - Sushi. All the food was vegetarian or vegan, as both of us were vegetarians. All the dishes would approximately be delivered at the time we would reach home.
We arrived at the gate and I was apprehensive now, on wether a Billionaire Princess who grew up in the lap of the highest Luxury possible, with a diamond encrusted spoon in her mouth, would be able to adjust in my middle class 3 BHK flat.
It had been bought by my dad, with the hopes that, one day he would be eventually be reunited with his family and his children would grow up in a happy, simple home with loving parents. He had purchased this flat with the great difficulty and years and years of hard-work.
Even though I could very easily afford a big mansion or at the very least a posh penthouse in the most expensive apartment complex in the city. I had vowed that until my revenge against the Oberoi's would be accomplished, I would live here.
This house was my father's last hope for a better life and was built with his blood and sweat. Living here made me feel connected to him in a way that I had not felt in decades. Even though he had never stayed here, he lived in a small 1 bedroom apartment.
I had only recently become aware about this property, when I was planning to move to India with Krish. I had gotten the entire place renovated, furnished and got the Interior designing done professionally. The place looked good but nowhere near Kyra's standards, for sure.
I gently tried to wake her up, but she was in deep sleep and with no other option left, I decided to carry her up. I told Dhruv to leave and slowly picked her up from the seat and took her to our house.
She fit against me so perfectly, she subconsciously snuggled against against my chest. It reminded me of the last time I had carried her bridal style, nearly 1 year ago after the "Holi" incident. Thinking about how she had suffered then because a few assholes couldn't follow my exact orders, enraged me. But I avenged her injuries and ruined the lives of those involved.
I won't let anyone harm my Kyra now, she was my responsibility and I will protect her.
Once we reached the door, I manoeuvred her slightly to the left, so that I could open the door with one hand, but that small motion woke her up and she opened her eyes with a start. She looked disoriented for a moment and then we were stuck deeply gazing into each other's eyes before, she finally broke the moment and said, "Can you please put me down", I obliged and set her on her feet.
She said, "I'm sorry I fell asleep I must've been more tired than I realised, but you should've woken me up. You didn't need to carry me all the way up."
I smiled and said with a wink, "I tried to wake you up, but your were deep in sleep and It was my pleasure. I didn't need to but, I sure as hell wanted to carry my wife."
She blushed.
I then opened the door and said, "Welcome to your new home, Mrs. Kapoor. It is very humble and simple compared to your billion dollar mansion, but it is what it is."
She walked in and looked around at the house, it was completely decorated with flowers, balloons, ceiling lights and a big banner that read, "Welcome Home".
She smiled and looked so happy, seeing her joy made me feel happy.
She asked apprehensively yet hopefully, with teary eyes, "Did you do all this, for me?"
I said, "Seeing your expression, I wish I could take credit for this, but no. All this was done for you, by your devar (brother in-law)."
She suddenly hugged me and said, "A person who doesn't even know me or hasn't even met me, has done all this for me? I want to meet him and thank him. Where is he?"
I was overcome with a tightness in my chest, Kyra - my wife was voluntarily hugging me, she must've been so overcome with joy at this simple act, that she didn't even realise, that she was hugging me.
I said, "You'll love Krish, my little brother. He's the most caring, thoughtful and fun loving boy. He was very excited to meet you, but I told him to give you some space because the past few days would have been very stressful for you. So he'll come back home tomorrow. You can meet him then."
She said, "Okay", but continued to hug me and I couldn't make myself leave her warm embrace, we were stuck in another moment and I could happily live in it forever. But suddenly the sharp ring of the doorbell broke us apart and I reluctantly left her and went to open the door.
