"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to begin our skills competition!" Daryl spoke into the mic as the first competition rolled around. "Up first, Demetri Alexopoulos from Miyagi-Do Karate, who'll be showcasing the kamas."
"Come on, Meat!" Alaska yelled.
"Show em!" Wyatt added in with a whistle.
Demetri gave a yell into the air, swinging the kamas around, quick on his feet, spinning in every direction. Alaska grinned, looking to Wyatt as he seemed in aw, in pure pride. When he was done, there was a cheer for him. Alaska added in, clapping loudly alongside Wyatt as Demetri beamed their way, talking a bow.
Alaska smiled when Devon preformed her board breaking act extremely well, only missing one board. Chris doing extremely well before ending it with crashing through a few cinder blocks. Kenny was next, and Alaska eyebrows shot up when he broke through the board the Cobra Kai's held, doing the same to the others. Robby met Alaskas eye, and she had to give him a nod to show how impressed she'd been with how Kenny had excelled so much.
"Are you kidding me? What a way to start the skills competition!" Daryl called over the mic. "Clearly, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang came to play. But with such a tight spread, it's still anyones game."
The skills competition continued, Cobra Kai overly impressive and moving themselves high up on the list. Who didn't compete already from Cobra Kai and Eagle Fang did so, and Sam was doing stunning work. Robby flipped across the mat after showing off his skill, landing perfect, yelling out. Alaska looked at Johnny. "He's doing good."
"What?" he found her face.
"Robby. He's doing good." Alaska admited with a nod. "You should be proud of him. All things considering."
Hs looked down at her, giving a small nod before looking back to Eli getting on the mat. Alaska clapped loudly, her palms hurt. "Come on, E! Whoo!"
It caused a string of "Aws" to go over the crowd as Eli gave her a flushed look.
They watched Nate get on Chris' shoulders, holding a board. Eli stood between them, punching through the one infront of him easily, breaking through the one on his right and left just as simply. Unfortunately, when if came to the high board, his foot wasn't nearly strong enough to pass through it that high. Alaska winced, her fingers dug into Wyatt's hand. "Shit."
"He's okay." Wyatt had to reassure her.
Mitch struggled badly, seemingly being a chain reaction. Wyatt did well after training with Gina, swinging the sword around impressively and doing way better then anyone else had. He scored them a high point, leaning Alaska to be the only one that hadn't competed yet.
"You ready for this?" Miguel asked her in worry as Johnny rolled the cinderblocks out onto the mat.
Alaskas eyes widened when they were set on fire, exactly like how they had been at the All Valley. She nodded at Miguel. "Born ready."
"Make em wish they stayed home." Devon slapped Alaskas shoulder as she walked forward. "Take that little trophy."
Alaska looked to the smaller trophy for skills.
"C'mon, Al!" Eli cheered her on. Alaksa lost the top half of her gi, left in the tank she wore under it. They allowed it, because her gi sleeve would have caught on fire if she hadn't. The flame around the brick burned upwards her way.
"I can not watch this." Zane shielded his eyes.
"Why? Your kids such a badass." Kody shook his head.
"Kody." Jimmy whispered with a gesture toward Zane's panic.
"What? He can hear me." Kody said back, cluelessly.
"Watch her." Gina made Zane watch, the two focusing on Alaska.
Daniel held his head up when he saw her inhale, brining her hands slowly infront of her in a mediating way. Listening to her heart, Alaskas eyes opened and brought her hand down, breaking through the lit brick quickly.
"Holy shit, Alaska!" Wyatt yelled as he jumped up and down, the crowd cheering for her as well as the dojos did.
Alaska tried not to smile, bowing, before running over to Eagle Fang. "Did you see that?"
"You make me proud, kid." Johnny shook his head with a grin.
"Let me see." Miguel took her hand. "Just a little burn. Does it hurt?"
"It's fine." she nodded, finding her breath. They all turned toward the board, holding their breath.
Eagle Fang was bumped up to first. "Hell yes!"
There was a cheer, shaking Alaska as she smiled wildly.
"With the the Skills Competition coming coming to an end, Eagle Fang takes home the trophy for this round!" Daryl yelled into the mic as Alaska beamed. "Alaska Lee has put them in the lead, she did not come to mess around!"
"Go get it, go, go!" Wyatt encouraged her quickly as the small, copper colored trophy was held. Johnny grinned as Alaska walked onto the mat, a bright smile on her face. Miyagi-Do was just as loud as Eagle Fang was, along with the crowd. Daryl handed Alaska the trophy, it was bigger when she held it, about half the size of the All Valley one.
"Yeah!" she yelled, her hands turning into a beach ball motion that Johnny taught Miguel.
"Yeah!" Eagle Fang did her motion back.
"Yeah!" Alaska did it once again to the crowd.
"Yeah!" they yelled back, some doing the beach ball as well. Eagle Fang ran to the stage to hug her, congratulate her on taking the Skills Competition, bouncing her around with their own cheers.
"Al!" Eli ran onto the mat to hug her, a spin when he did so. "You just won that shit!"
"Eli!" Alaska shook his shoulders. "I just won that shit!"
"Yeah, Alaska!" Jimmy cheered her on from the crowd, that little group clapping together greatly.
Demetri and Sam hugged her tightly, her copper trophy hugged close to her chest as Johnny lead her back over, the biggest look of pride across not only hers, but the rest of their faces as well.
"Ladies and gentlemen. The male and female division qualifiers are about to begin. And with them, we enter a new era!" Ron, a guy from the council, spoke over the mic. "That's why we need a very special guest to kick things off. Let's give a big All Valley welcome to multi-Grammy-award winning, international superstar, Carrie Underwood!"
Zane was screaming from the crowd, and Gina looked in embarrassment. "It's Carrie! Gina! It's Carrie Underwood!"
Wyatt looked at Alaskas jaw on the floor. "That's your dad."
"He's a big fan of female country singers that sing about killing their husbands." Alaska winced, tearing her eyes away from her dad when he started to try to do the wave, making Kody do it with him.
"Hello, All Valley!" Carrie greeted as she took the mic, talking over the intense yells from the crowd. "I am so honored to be here. I didn't see a lot of karate growing up in Oklahoma, but you guys know I love to compete, just like these wonderful young men and young woman. One thing I have learned is that everyone gets their shot, their chance in the spotlight. Everyone gets their moment. This one's yours!"
The completion began soon after, round after round came. Alaska thought the trio of dojos that she bothered to watch were doing overly well. She even had to admit she was doing great, scoring the point between the two girls she fought against.
Cobra Kai was still leading, but the quarterfinals came around quick. Eli found Alaskas eyes across the mat, holding his head up her way. Alaska did it back, showing they were both good.
There was a problem.
Each sensei was brought to Daryl, explaining what was going on. Johnny came back to the Eagle Fangs, Miguel looking in worry. "What's going on?"
"There's an uneven number." he shook his head, looking at the students. "There nine boys, eight girls."
"So, what now?" Devon looked in confusion.
"They're wanting to put the two of you against each other, or the girls from Cobra Kai." Johnny shook his head, Devon and Alaska looked toward an overly confident Piper and Tory.
"We can do it." Devon added in.
"Is that the only way?" Alaska gave a questionable look.
"What do you mean?" Johnny looked ar her oddly. "You have that look."
Alaska looked at the Cobra Kai students. "Let me fight one of the boys, make it even."
Miguel blinked. "Is that allowed?"
"I don't think so." Devon added in.
"It makes more sense. Girls and boys fought last year. Just go ask, it's more logical then having two people from the same dojo fighting." Alaska encounter Johnny, he hesitated before going back on the mat, talking closely to Daryl. He waved Kreese and Silver over soon after, and it was clear they were beyond joyed with this idea.
"We have a little twist, folks." Daryl spoke into the mic. "Due to an uneven number, one of Cobra Kais young men will fight one of Eagle Fangs young women students."
"Hell yes!" Kody yelled when Alaska jumped on the mat, a grin back at her team. He stood up, pulling his flannel back to reveal the Eagle Fang shirt underneath. "Whip the floor with them, Al!"
"You got this." Miguel promised her.
"Remember what today is. You're stronger then ever today. You just won Skills." Johnny encouraged her with a nod, Alaska giving him a fist pump before walking toward the ref in the middle. Cobra Kai was taking a second to decided who would fight her. Sam met Alaskas eye, and she was the exact person she needed to look in the eye right now. Sam nodded, Alaska taking a breath as Kyler walked forward.
The Lee girl gave a smirk, looking back at Miguel as he winked her way.
"Face me, bow." they were encouraged, doing so. "Face each other, bow."
Alaska and Kyler held strong eye contact as they bowed to each other.
"Come on, baby!" Gina called from the crowd.
"Fight!" they were encouraged. Kyler lunged at Alaska, swinging his fist her way, having it blocked before he had the chance to hit her in the chest to score a point. Alaska ducked down, hiding from Kylers kick he was sending her way. The way she twisted, she managed to get behind him before he was fully turned, earning a punch to the chest.
"Point!"
"Yes!" Johnny cheered her on.
"Wipe the floor with him, Alaska!" Eli yelled to encourage her, and it did.
Kyler and Alaska took their stance again. "Fight!"
This time, out of pride, she struck first. Kyler knocked her fist away from him, throwing a kick her way. Alaska grasped his leg before he had the chance to, ducking under it and shoving onto his back, his front hitting the mat as she rolled him over, a punch to the chest.
"Yes!" Sam yelled out for her. "Yes!"
"Winner." Alaska was announced, her hand held in the air. Miyagi Do, Eagle Fang, and the crowd cheered for her. Alaska grinned, looking back to Cobra Kai and setting her eyes on Kreese. She rubbed her non surgical nose in a mocking manor, a smirk across her face as she walked back to Eagle Fang.
"All right, folks. We've witnessed some great fighting today. But you ain't seen nothing yet." Daryl teased over the mic as the crowd cheered for the remaining stood. "Because we have arrived at the quarterfinals! Which means things are about to get intense. Of the eight boys and eight girls on this stage, one of each will be named All Valley champion. And then we'll tally all the points to determine which dojo has earned the title of Grand Champion. And since the points get higher in each round...it's still any dojos game! So you keep your eyes on this here blue mat, because we are just getting started!"
