The summer began to blanket over the west coast like a ray of bright light. The sun shined like a beacon over the coastal area as Sabine drove her nude color Cadillac coupe devil through the neighborhood she and her daughter, Colette ( aka Coco ) will now call home. Coco leaned to the side as she watched the passing palm trees, the people lining up the sidewalks and streets. Los Angeles was a lot different from what she was used to, being born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Whereas, she used to live near a bayou. Not much road to drive on and all grass but it was home for all of her life. But the move had a good reason for it. Sabine and Coco's dad, Rico Jimenez, had a really toxic relationship. He loved his daughter but he wasn't in the right mindset to be a good dad to her. In other words, he was a junkie. A functional one but the drugs made him crazier than he already was.

And while Sabine has tried to help him before, it all ended the same. With him relapsing and her mom getting harmed in some way. He ended up going to jail for some time for domestic violence. Coco was 8 years old when that happened. And it was the very last time she saw her dad.

After some time and as his release date approached, Sabine called her mom, who lives in Los Angeles, running a bakery shop in South Central, and told her about the situation. Being a mother, herself, Marceline Romero ( aka Mama Marcie ) had a friend in real estate who helped Sabine find a house out there quickly. So the two packed up everything, including their three dogs, and were gone before spring ended officially.

The move took a pretty big toll on Coco. She was happy she didn't have to deal with her psychotic dad anymore but she missed New Orleans. She missed the area she grew up in, the french quarters, the people there and everything it had to offer. California was beautiful and she was grateful for being able to live in such a place but to her, it could never beat home.

Sabine and Coco made it to their new home in the early hours of the morning. 6 am, to be exact. the perfect time to get their things moved in early. They lived a few blocks away from Marcie and had decided to drive over and visit her for the day.

Coco looked around the neighborhood as her mom turned the corner, driving up to her grandmother's house. It was a one story home, painted light pink, had a big porch area and porch swing. Her grandma loved gardening and growing different plants so the front was beautifully decorated in different colorful flowers under the balcony of the porch and around the green grass.

There were kids playing in the streets, men of all ages talking and hanging around the block. Different parents are watching their kids from their porch steps. Summer was truly present and it looked pretty wholesome.

"And here we are," Sabine said as she parked her car in her driveway. She had on sunglasses over her chocolate brown eyes. Her black hair laid all around her in loose curls, brushing over her denim halter jumpsuit. "How ya likin' the west coast so far?"

"It's nice." Coco mumbled as they climbed out of the car, closing the door behind her. She fixed her long curly and fluffy black hair as she surveyed the area a bit. "Very different, though."

"Just think, this is the start of a new beginning, cher." Sabine beamed with a gleeful smile. "And Los Angeles is beautiful this time 'round."

Coco grinned a little at her. Seeing her mom finally able to relax and be happy always made her happy. She didn't have to look over her shoulder anymore. And that made her a bit happier about the move. "Yeah, I know, mama."

"Is that my baby out there?!" a loud and boisterous voice rang from the entrance of the house, capturing their attention.

Out came Marceline, Sabine's mother and Coco's grandmother. She was wearing a deep purple muumuu, her long braids in a low half ponytail and some sunglasses over her eyes. She may be old in age but she still looked just as beautiful and youthful as she was when she was a bit younger.

"Ahhhh!" Marcie cheered, nearly running down the porch steps to meet the two most important people in her life halfway with open arms.

Sabine smiled as she met her mom's embrace. "Hey, mama." She chuckled out as they hugged each other tightly. "I hope you remember to put on some drawls, wearing that out here."

Marcie scoffed, pulling away from her with pursed lips. "Girl, I'll do whatever the hell I want in my house." She jokingly scolded her, lightly tapping her shoulder. "Besides it's hotter than satan's ass out here. She need ta breathe sometimes."

Sabine looked at her like 'you know you wrong for saying that' with a small laugh. Marcie chuckled as she noticed her granddaughter not too far behind them. "Coco, look at you!"

"Hey, grandmama." Coco greeted her with a bright smile as the two hugged. Marcie took an extra few seconds to hug her tightly. The last time she saw Coco, she was only 12 years old.

Marcie pulled back, placing both hands on her face and just smiled in pride at her beauty. "Lookin' like ya mama, just as beautiful as ever." She praised, moving a strand of her curly hair from her face. "You know, ya mama looks like me so that means ya'll get ya'll beauty from me. Ain't none of ya daddy in you."

ย ย  "I know," Sabine added, smiling at them.

ย  ย  Coco grinned a bit sheepishly at their words, moving a strand of her hair from her face as the three began to make their way into her house.

"Let's head on inside before that nosy bitch I live next to start poking her buggy eyes over here." Marcie mumbled, ushering them up the porch. But not before her neighbor from across the strew greeted her.

"Hey, Mama Marcie!" The voice yelled, causing the three of them to pause and turn. the woman that yelled over to them was beautiful. small body, curly hair, she looked good. she was on her porch with a man a lot larger than her. she smiled over at them, waving her hand.

Marcie smiled and waved back. "Hey, Louie!" she yelled back, smiling at them. "Hey, Jerome! This is my daughter and my granddaughter!"

"Hey, welcome!" Louie greeted them with a welcoming smile. "Y'all are beautiful!"

Sabine smiled and waved hi to them while Coco did the same thing. "Thank you!" Sabine exclaimed back, giving her a grateful smile.

"Mama, you gon' still bring over that king cake for tomorrow?!" Jerome yelled over in between puffs of his blunt.

"Boy, you already know, don't play!" Marcie replied laughing a little. "Give ya a little taste of the south, nah!"

"Alright, now! Don't hurt nothin!" He laughed out with Louie.

Marcie chuckled before they started making their way in. "They some nice folks, I swear." She mumbled as they all walked inside. "They the only ones who's really making it bearable to live on this block, Jerome and Louie. But be careful around them, ya hear?"

"Why?" Sabine asked curiously.

"They some swingers, baby." Marcie replied, giving them a knowing glance over her sunglasses. "They'll snatch yo pretty ass up in a minute, fuckin' with them. They tried it with me."

"Grandmama!" Coco groaned in disgust, not needing to hear any of that.

"Now, mama." Sabine added with a deadpanned expression. "You did not need to say that."

"Shit, y'all grown, too. Ain't no use hiding nothing from y'all." She replied, sucking her teeth at them. "I ain't never sugar coated shit in front of you or your sister. Come on inside, nah. Hot as hell out here."

After spending some hours at her grandmothers house, Sabine and Coco went back to their new home to unpack and clean up the boxes, which took most of the day. By the time they were done, the early afternoon arrived. After finishing up with decorating her room, Coco decided to take the dogs out for a walk so she could get to know the neighborhood better.

The family of two had three dogs. An all black German shepherd named Rambo, a Rottweiler named Cerberus and a black Doberman named Diablo. All three were lovable dogs and very well trained. They also knew how to protect home and would attack on command.

ย ย  "I'm gonna take the dogs out for a walk!" Coco yelled behind her as she opened their front door, holding all three of their leashes. All three dogs were pretty excited to go outside so they almost tugged her out the door.

ย  ย  "Be careful, ya hear?!" Her mom yelled from the bathroom.

ย  ย  "Yeah!" She yelled back before closing the door behind her. "Calm down, boys!"

ย  ย ย

ย  ย  ย  Next door, Franklin Saint had nothing else to do before his shift at the liquor store later. So he decided to spend the last few hours by himself, sitting on his porch and enjoying a bowl of cereal. He looked around the neighborhood. Watching the kids play in the streets and the neighbors chatting together.

ย  ย ย  It was a massive heatwave that summer in Los Angeles so everyone was enjoying it the best way they could. And the amount of times Franklin has seen the same faces, he never really got tired of people watching. Most people would have been bored of the same scenery everyday but ever since he left college and came back home, he couldn't find it in him to feel bored. He did miss the block he lived in. Despite the fact that he wanted better for himself and for his mom.

ย  ย  From his far left, he heard the sounds of chains rattling and someone talking. Which was a new sound. So he turned and nearly took a double take.

ย  ย  He had heard that someone new moved into the house to the right of his house but he never got a good look at them. Considering he heard moving trucks at the crack of dawn and he was still sleep around the time. But that changed when he saw a sight that nearly made him drop bowl.

ย ย  There was girl walking out of the house next to his. Her hair was long, jet black, soft looking, fluffy and in spiral curls that bounced with every step she took. Her skin looked soft and smooth, the color of the richest chocolate in the world, eyes like the sun, golden brown. She was wearing a colorful stripped strapless top with matching shorts on, which hugged her coke bottle shaped body.

ย  ย ย  She was holding three chained leashed which were attached to an all black german shepherd, a rottweiler and a black doberman. Franklin could have swore his jaw fell off the hinges of his face at the sight of her. This pretty ass stranger. His new neighbor, evidently.

ย  ย  She huffed a little as she began walking just past his front yard, not at all paying attention to him or anyone else but he couldn't find it in him to look away from her. Whoever she is, she hypnotized Franklin completely and she didn't even give him the time of day.

ย  ย ย  His eyes followed her until she was already a few feet away from his house and even then, he leaned over his porch to watch her walk away, wondering who the hell she was and how was he going to try to approach her the next time he saw her.

ย  ย ย  It was like that moment a man saw the girl of his dreams in those corny ass romantic comedies. Everything seemed like it was moving in slow motion, playing some type of RnB in his head as he admired her beauty. So much so that he didn't even notice how Leon and Kevin were also looking with him.

ย  ย ย  "Daaaamn!" Kevin's voice snapped Franklin out of his fantasy, finally acknowledging the two of them. "She finer than a muthafucka!"

ย ย  "That's yo new neighbor, bro?" Leon asked, watching her walk down the street. "You get to see that everyday now? My nigga, you lucky."

ย  ย  Franklin chuckled a little, shaking his head at them. "This is my first time seeing her, too."

ย  ย ย  "I heard Mama Marcie was having her daughter and granddaughter coming to live here from New Orleans." Kevin said as they began walking into Franklin's house.

ย  ย  "Mama Marcie? That lady that owns that bakery down near the park?" Leon asked. Franklin listened as he closed the door behind them.

ย  ย  "Yeah, my mama likes them beignets she makes or whatever." He answered. "Always asking me to stop by to pick up some."

ย ย  "Shit....if that's her granddaughter, I wonder how the mom looks like." Leon joked, causing them to laugh. "She gotta be fine as hell if that's how her daughter comin'"

ย  ย  "You know they names?" Franklin asked, putting his empty bowl in the sink.

ย  ย  "Nah, that's all I know." Kevin said, leaning against his fridge. "Mama Marcie lives across the street from your uncle Jerome an'nem. I'm suprised you ain't never noticed, Franklin. With amount of times you always over there."

ย  ย  "Nah, he too busy following Melody's ass to notice anyone else." Leon chuckled out. "Nigga is blinded by the forbidden pussy."

ย  ย  "Shut your ass up," Franklin laughed out, nudging him hard. "Talking about me. Worry about yourself, nigga."
