In 2012, Kokoa is a young woman with a slim and athletic figure (which she obtained from excessive diet and past eating disorders) and is noticeably taller than both Erika Koume and Kiyoko Shimizu.

Kokoa has small dark brown eyes, thin heart keyhole lips and sleek mid-back length auburn-brown hair which she often keeps in a slick back style , unless she is creating art or playing volleyball with Asahi and the boys of Karasuno. Kokoa often wears grunge and gothic styled makeup during the weekend and wears triple cartilage piercings in both ears, a nose piercing on her left nostril (which she often takes off during school hours).

Post-timeskip, Kokoa's hair has grown much longer reaching to her lower back and keeps it in a long wolfcut style. She has two stud piercings in both lips and tattoos on both of her arms.

During her time as a student at Karasuno High, she wears the typical girls uniform which consists of a white blouse, red ribbon, cream sweater, black blazer, and a grey skirt. However, she often just wears a black blazer and the normal dress shirt or sometimes wears the boys pants during her third year of high school.

For her hair, she often keeps it loose or sometimes keeps it in a high or low ponytail or bun when it comes to certain classes and activities.

For normal days and casual outfits, she wears black or often dark color palettes with band t-shirts, tank tops, jackets, jeans, sweat pants, boots, converse sneakers and such. She also adds in black, gothic and grunge styles jewelry.

For the days where she does practicing in volleyball with Asahi, Nishinoya and the other boys of Karasuno, Kokoa wears dark or light colored comfortable and stretchy clothes and sport shoes that she can move easily in to help the boys practice.

All formal events are categorized differently in each of her different styles depending on the events that is attending:

If she is on a romantic date with Asahi or a fun date with girls, Kokoa will put more effort into her appearance and style. Kokoa will wear her signature colors such as black but she will also add other colors such as red, dark black, gold, silver and more. She wears beautiful dresses or fancy clothing depending on the date, location, occasion and time. She will also wear shoes, accessories, jewelry and makeup and put hairstyles that match her style for the time being.

For a formal event, whether it's for school, with her friends, her family or any other special occasion. Kokoa has a range of outfits and dresses for those planned occasions and special events fitting her style but still being fancy and putting effort into her appearance.

On the weekend when there is no school, summer vacation and does not have to worry about studying or exams, whether she has time for herself, to be with Asahi or friends, she wears very comfortable and baggy clothes such as old band t-shirts, tank tops, hoodies, worn out leggings, sweatpants and shorts or sometimes wears slippers or other lazy shoes. She keeps her hair loose or wears it in low effort hairstyles.

For the nighttime and when she is sleeping, taking the day off or having late night calls with her friends or Asahi Azumane, she often wears a pair of matching or sometimes mismatching pajama tops and shirts with shorts/pants.

At first when anyone meets her, Kokoa can seen to be a brash, bad-mouthed and a mean person at first, not just with her intimidating appearance but with her originally cold and aloof personality as well which stemmed from her difficult background of her abusive father and her mother dying from her addiction, then shortly almost falling down the same path of her. Her personality seems to have a "wall" that blocks others from getting too close with her but truthfully, she is quiet and introverted, often sitting by herself or those she is close too and is comfortable talking too. Despite her quiet nature, she can be sharp minded and tongued when she argues with someone, this trait has been passed down to her from her father as mentioned by her grandparents (a trait she has mixed feelings about).

Kokoa can come off as focused and unemotional, Kokoa used to prefer keeping to herself in her earlier life but after certain events before the main series, Kokoa became more social able and kinder, showing to smile more often and showing her more humorous side, but still holds some fragments of her previous distant attitude when dealing with a lot of emotionally intense situations. Kokoa is shown to be extremely fearless, a trait that is commented by her grandparents and her friends, as well as stoic, efficient, cunning, intelligent and sometimes unpredictable to those who don't truly know her. Despite her arrogance, Kokoa does not have that big of an ego and does not show that much fear towards anything or anyone, however she shows genuine fear when someone comments on similarities that she shares with her father, showing that she holds various psychological scars, which tend to reemerge when others bring up her mothers death to argue with her or when they compare her to her father.

Kokoa is surprisingly witty and can be quite humorous as well. Despite her intimidating appearance and seemingly more intimidating personality, she is actually a very loyal, helpful, caring and attentive friend who is there for those she cares for, through thick and thin. Kokoa is seen as straightforward and bold who has a strong no nonsense mentality, showing a great deal of confidence when posing her opinions and while possessing a moderate level of arrogance at times.

During her first year in Karasuno High School, she began to open up more to her friends and those she trusted dearly and even lightened up from her serious demeanor. Showing that she is willing to move forward and is quite reflective on her own growth, realizing how much the words and actions of her loved ones and how much it changed her perspective, helping her learn self compassion and confidence; due to this, Kokoa is learning to move forward with her past and forgive her father for her actions to make peace with herself (despite still holding a grudge towards him) and shows no hatred towards her mother despite her past anger for her past decisions, knowing she did her best but lost faith in the end.

While Kokoa can be encouraging, she can also be stern when it is needed from her, especially towards Yu Nishinoya and Ryunosuke Tanaka due to their wild and chaotic nature and antics along with both of their obvious crushes on both herself and Kiyoko Shimizu. Kokoa has a surprisingly terrifying temper that can make even someone as terrifying as Daichi Sawamura, this can lead people to being intimidated by angering her and wanting to not get on her bad side. She can also become extremely harsh and threaten those who hurt and threaten the people she cares for, no matter their status, wealth or age, she does not care for such titles.

Despite this, Kokoa is quite gentle natured and very kind and helpful to those she holds dear in her heart, as shown how she helps the boys of the Karasuno volleyball club and even helped Asahi regain his courage to rejoin the team. Kokoa shows herself to very passionate about art and writing and wishes to create her own works one day, even believing to take up art classes and courses after graduating high school. In her past and current situations, Kokoa is very hardworking, determined and strong willed as shown when she recovers from her past addictions which stemmed from her difficult past and as she started to open up about her past and with the help of her friends and grandparents, she went as far as quitting old habits such as smoking, vaping and drinking alcohol, even it took a long time and sometimes relapsed but bounced back, showing that she is not willing to give up.

Kokoa Sasaki was born in a comfortable lifestyle but despite seeming like a calm family, Kokoa's family had a lot of unhealed and unresolved trauma. Kokoa's mother, Azami Sasaki, was a former drug addict with mental health problems and past suicide attempts from traumatic events in her earlier life of severe bullying that lasted from middle school to high school. While on the road of recovery, her mother met Shou Nomura, a successful psychiatrist who has helped her in the first years of adulthood from her suicide attempts, the two eventually developed a romantic and physical relationship from their appointments and this lead to Azami's pregnancy with Kokoa Sasaki, even leading them to get married six months later as Azami showed great signs of improvement, however this turned out to be a great mistake.

Azami believed that Shou, was a kind and he genuinely loved her, however as time passed during her marriage and her pregnancy, he was often dismissive of her and often stonewalled or ignored her, this eventually turned to nitpicking and pointing out every flaw of hers. After giving birth to Kokoa, Shou became financially, verbally, emotionally and mentally abusive showing his true colors as manipulative, controlling and abusive towards Azami. This even went to Kokoa as a very small child as he often degraded and insulted every chance he got leading her to very low self esteem in her childhood.

While Azami did her best to defend Kokoa as much as she could from her husband's abuse, there was only so much that she could take from the extreme stress of the abuse everyday and it took a toll on her, going back to her relapse of drugs and alcohol again to numb the pain, despite wanting to do her best to be clean for her daughter. Shou however noticed how her behavior became more erratic and wanted to schedule her for rehab, divorce her and take custody of Kokoa, however it was too late, Kokoa had already stepped into the sight of her mother who had overdosed on fentanyl at the age of eight. When the police and the paramedics arrived, Kokoa could clearly see the drugs and alcohol stash that smuggled and there was no way to save her as she died hours before anyone could help.

Kokoa's brightness as a child was gone, she had gone quiet and she would barely speak to anyone unless spoken too and her father took his abuse out on her, often blaming his daughter for her mothers death and the smallest things. The low self esteem she had as a child became worse and she became quiet and reserved from elementary school to middle school. Luckily, Kokoa's maternal grandparents knew that something was off and they decided to take in custody of Kokoa and Shou left her without a second thought, abandoning her. Taking Kokoa in helped the situation a bit but didn't help fully as she was now a fully anxious child and couldn't even speak to anyone, except her grandparents and not even in full sentences. Her grandparents were kind and loving people who did everything to help Kokoa move past it, giving her love that she genuinely needed and even taking her to therapy to help her.

During her years in middle school, Kokoa had shown slight signs of improvement but unfortunately in her last year, Kokoa met her ex boyfriend at the time and the two eventually started to date after he forced her to experiment on vaping, smoking and alcohol together despite her trauma but due to her not wanting to be rejected and wishing to be loved, Kokoa accepted and this lead Kokoa on the same path as her mother. The relationship became toxic and he showed himself as controlling and wanted to keep their relationship a secret, eventually the two got intimate and he only wanted for the physical relationship benefits. Kokoa didn't see it at the time but after finding out that he was cheating on another girl with her and even having another girlfriend behind her back, the trauma caused Kokoa to numb the pain with alcohol and drugs. This caused arguments between her and her grandparents, leading her to rehab before her first year at Karasuno High School.

During her first year of high school, it was a lonely time for Kokoa. She barely had any friends and anyone to talk to due to her shy nature and her intimidating appearance. However, she was able to make friends with a few, she ended up pushing them away in the end due to her tough persona of not wanting to get hurt again and during that time, she found solace in a boy who was just like her named Asahi Azumane. Seeming intimidating but had a such a gentle nature to him and was much shyer than she thought he would be. While she was still experimenting with smoking, vaping and alcohol and was tempted to trying drugs again and was even considering to end her life.

Kokoa and Asahi both talked and became closer as time passed, the two became closer but Kokoa felt herself become scared when she realized that she had feelings for Asahi eventually. Her bad habits eventually caught up to her, making her grades go downhill and she was in arguments with her grandparents and her own friends regularly. Feeling hopeless, Asahi was her light as he unknowingly helped her during her worst of days while knowing of her addictions but didn't judge her. She spoke of them as she needed to talk to someone and he encourages her to at least try and admits that because of her, he feels less shy. The two speak about life and when Kokoa returns home, she enters home crying and wants to quit her life of drugs and during rehab, she started to her reevaluate her choices in life and what she wanted to do with life.

With time and effort, Kokoa started to heal slowly from her past traumas and started to cope in healthier ways. Due to dealing with addictions she was often absent and dealing with withdrawal symptoms and was at the doctor or at home sick and trying to catch up with her studies, Asahi often came in to help her and when she came back to school, she met the boys of the Karasuno Volleyball Club properly and she made friends. Asahi eventually confessed his feelings to her in their second year and she confessed to Asahi that she felt the same way towards him. She started dating Asahi in the beginning of their second year in high school and it's been more than a whole year since they've started dating.

Despite not being very athletic and strong, Kokoa is a quick learner and willing to help the boys in the Karasuno Boys Volleyball Club in anyway she can and sometimes help Kiyoko during after school activities.

Kokoa is a sharp minded girl, showing that she is able to spot signs of people are hiding something or if someone is not a good person by observing their actions and how they feel about themselves in the way they talk, this also shows strongly in her intelligence.

• 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘱 𝘛𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘥:

Along with her sharp mind, Kokoa has a very sharp tongue as well, this is shown in her humor, her conversations and in her arguments as well as she speaks to others. She uses this sharp tongue to either lighten and help others or tear those down who truly deserve it in an argument.

Kokoa is very straightforward, often liking to get to the point in a topic, conversation or an argument. She dislikes small talk and often doesn't like it when people use it to get a favor from her, which is why she is very straightforward.

Kokoa's confidence and boldness in her childhood was destroyed by her father, but as time passed by, she became more sure of herself and she built her confidence overtime and now it shows more greatly.

Kokoa is very fearless, showing little to no hesitation in taking risks and jumping forward if need be.

Kokoa shows herself to be very intelligence, her emotional intelligence however took time to grow during her time from healing from her past, but she shows great emotional intelligence and helps others with it.

When it comes to her work in art and writing, studying, helping those close to her or her goals, Kokoa is a very efficient person who makes sure that she gets the job properly, no matter what it takes.

Kokoa is unemotional and focused a majority of the times when making a decision, she is very rational in her decisions and what she needs to do.

Kokoa is very reflective of her emotions and her actions from the past and present, she understands how it impacts others and knows what her decisions will do to others, which helps with her rationality.

Kokoa shows a great amount of self awareness, which stems with her reflective personality. Using this self awareness, she was able to heal from her trauma and stop herself from falling back into drug addiction again.

Paired with her reflective traits and her self awareness, Kokoa shows herself to be willing to work on her bad traits and her personality and problems for the benefit as others, knowing well that she doesn't want to be like her father or die like her mother.

Kokoa shows herself to be very helpful to those close to her, doing everything she can in her capabilities to help them in anyway she can like giving them advice, etc. but still maintains healthy boundaries for herself and accepts her limits.

Kokoa is very loyal, as shown in her friendships and her relationship with Asahi. When anyone tries to talk bad about those she loves or cares for, she will defend their name strongly and make sure they know not to talk bad about them again.

Kokoa is a caring person to those she loves and cares for, showing a lot in her actions and her words when they are sad and need someone to talk to or help them.

Despite her scary appearance and hard personality, Kokoa is gentle natured once you get to know her. This shows a lot to her grandparents and friends with her words and actions, showing she wants them to be happy and feel safe around her.

Kokoa has a great amount of kindness in her heart, a lot greater than she gives herself credit for, according to Asahi Azumane.

Despite her sharp words and intimidating appearance, Kokoa is very empathetic as shown she is understanding of those dealing with relatives with addiction or those who are dealing with addiction or family problems like she did herself.

Kokoa is very kind and encouraging to those who are close to her, showing she is willing to help them in anyway possible.

Along with her sharp tongue, Kokoa is naturally blunt and her honesty can come off as rude, insensitive or condescending at times when she doesn't mean it. She tries to be honest in kinder ways as time passes by but still retains some of her strong bluntness to this day.

With her confidence or just her overall personality, Kokoa can carry quite a lot of arrogance, being intentional and she is fully aware of it as well but keeps it up as a front to those she doesn't trust to seem tough.

Kokoa can sometimes make reckless decisions due to her personality but also it being due to her bipolar personality disorder (being diagnosed at fourteen years old), her decisions can have major consequences if she is not careful.

• 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦:

Paired alongside her reckless nature, Kokoa can also be very impulsive with her decisions and her actions as shown a few times in her past and how reactions follow them.

• 𝘊𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨:

Kokoa can sometimes be very cunning, while this can help her at times, she can sometimes be very scheming for her own personal gain especially during the events before the main story.

• 𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘴:

Kokoa has a lot of psychological scars from her past and the impact it has carried on her, leading her to go into drug addiction and experiment with underage drinking, smoking of cigarettes, weed, vaping and sex with her ex boyfriend to numb the pain, however as she saw how the impact it made on her family, she wanted to change. Sometimes the scars reappear but she manages them better and knows how to handle it better than through addiction.

• 𝘈𝘯𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺:

Kokoa has generalized anxiety disorder and was diagnosed when she was fourteen, despite being fearless and confident, she can sometimes struggle with anxiety and it can sometimes get the best of her at the worst times.

• 𝘉𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳:

Kokoa has been diagnosed with Biopolar Personality Disorder when she was fourteen years old, handling mania and depressive episodes quite often, she often takes medication for it as she wants to handle it healthily.

• 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳 "𝘌𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘭":

In the beginning in her first year at Karasuno and before so, Kokoa had an "emotional wall" protecting her heart so she wouldn't get hurt after being betrayed again, however this caused a lot of problems in forming friendships and also her making her unhappy and more unfriendly. The walls around came down as passed by but there is still residence of it.

• 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘐𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘸:

Sometimes when situations can become too much for Kokoa or when her psychological scars are opened, Kokoa can sometimes isolate in her bedroom or withdrawal emotionally so she can handle it, sometimes she needs her space but sometimes she calls others when she needs help but sometimes she handles it all alone which can be very unhealthy for her.

• 𝘏𝘦𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘛𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘦:

Due to her blunt and straightforward personality, Kokoa has a hard time lying as it is a part of her personality. She however learns to tell a lie only here and there but became very crafty when she was an addict, but as she recovered, she was more honest and doesn't want to lie to her friends or loved ones about anything.
