Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Β  FOR THE LAST YEAR, life had proven to be though. It's not all sunshine and rainbows- it can really suck and Violet had experience just how much.

The start of her new school year had been marked by the sudden loss of her father, who had fallen victim to a tragic car accident while he was on his way home from a business trip. Leaving behind Violet, her twin brother Adrian and their mother.

For quiet some time Violet thought that she would never be the same again, but with time, the girl learned how to live with the pain a d the grief.

Gazing at the picture of her younger self and her dad, she had a small smile on her face.

The moonlight shone through the curtains and fell onto her face. Mystic falls was quiet at night and Violet could only hear the voices of her brother and mother coming from downstairs.

Violet exhaled deeply before she casted one last glance into the mirror. She quickly fixed her hair and grabbed her purse from the nightstand before she hurried downstairs, joining her brother in the living room.

"Wow- You look fancy", she smirked at her older twin brother, her eyebrows raised at him in surprise.

Adrian, who wore a dark button shirt with dark pants that matched his black hair, smirked at her. "You don't look too bad yourself."

Violet gave him a thankful smile before it turned into a suggesting smirk, "Is there someone in particular that you dressed up for?"

Adrian pretended to be confused and frowned, "What?"

Violet wanted to push further, even though she already knew of her brothers crush on Elena, but their mother joined them, a big camera in her hands.

Violet let the topic go and the two gave their mother amused smiles before they wrapped their arms around each other. Adrian let out a deep sighed, "Let's get it over with."

"Oh, you two look absolutely dashing", Martina chuckled while she snapped some photos of them. She smiled brightly while she waved them off, "Now, you're free to go. Enjoy your evening and love you!"

"Love you, mom", Violet and her brother called out in union before quickly closing the door behind them.

"You wanna drive tonight?", Violet questioned her brother with a pleading look and the boy silently took the car key out of her hand and climbed into the driver's seat.

Violet gave him a large smile when she jumped into the car beside him, "Thank you!"

They continued driving down the street that lead to the Salvatore Mansion and Violet glanced at her brother, "Adrian- I- Maybe you should tell her already-"

Her brother gave her a glance before he exhaled deeply, "It just doesn't feel right, V. She's hung up on Stefan- who's God knows where- doing God knows what- she still loves him- I can't compete-."

There was silence between them, before they arrived by the Salvatore mansion a few minutes later.

The party was already in full motion.
Loud music was blasting from the inside of the mansion and when the siblings made their way across the front porch, Violet immediately spotted Damon and Alaric.

The two men were both sitting on the front porch and were drinking their bourbon.

Violet was determined to walk past them, mostly because she was desperately trying to avoid Damon at all cost because of what happened before the summer.

When Tyler had bitten the Vampire a couple weeks earlier, the two had shared a very intimate kiss. Violet thought that Damon was going to die. She thought that it was a Goodbye. But Katherine had brought them the cure and now it was really awkward between them, well more for her than for him.

The dark haired girl had this fluttery feeling in her stomach when they passed the raven haired man and she tried her best to avoid eye contact, but when Damon spotted her, his face immediately lit up. "Ahh, the twinsies! Come, join us! Have a drink!"

Adrian just continued his way inside, shaking his head at Damon's comment, but Violet spun around to Damon.

The man flashed his signature smirk at her while Violet narrowed her eyes at him. She then gazed at Alaric and forced a small smile, "Evening, Mr. Salzman." The professor raised his glass at her in silence, before taking an awkward sip.

She then averted her eyes back to Damon, narrowing them once more, "Don't call us Twinsies."

Damon just ignored the man exchange between the man besides him and Violet. He eyed the girl in amusement, "Where would be the fun in that?"

He held up his bourbon for her to take.
The girl immediately grabbed the glass from his hands and took a sip. She really needed that.

Meanwhile her brother rejoined her, a troubled expression on his face, "Hey I just saw Jeremy. He's smoking again."

Violet gave him a shocked look. "Is his stash any good?", Damon questioned him immediately with a raised eyebrow.

The girl in front of him shot him a glare. "You're an ass! -", Violet stated before she took another sip from his glass.

She then handed the glass back to Damon, looking at Alaric, "You talk to Jeremy. I'll find Elena and distract her when she wants to look for him."

The dark haired girl then walked inside the house and quickly made her way up to Damon's room.

When the woman entered the room, she could already hear Caroline's voice, before she saw her, "No, it's your birthday! No, it's the dawn of a new day."

The two then suddenly looked at Violet, who approached them, a large smile on her face, "Happy Birthday, Elena!"

The two friends hugged before Caroline went on with her speech, "What I meant is, you can't get on with your life until you've made a wish and blown out the candles."

Elena frowned at the blonde before she gazed at Violet questiongly, "Is that what you all want me to do, just get on with my life?"

Caroline immediately shook her head, "No!- maybe." The blond and the brunette looked at each other, a moment of silence passing by. "I just don't think anyone wants to see you like this."

"Caroline, I'm not gonna give up on finding Stefan", the brunette stated confidently. She made an attempted to leave the room, but Caroline stopped her by stepping in her way.

The blond placed a hand on Elena's shoulder while she gazed into her eyes, "Of course not! And you shouldn't! But you have to admit that you're kind of just letting your life pass you by. And isn't Stefan the one who wanted to make sure you lived it?"

Violet watched the interaction silently before Elena's eye's narrowed at Caroline, "You want me to make a wish? I just want to know that he's alive. That's it- That's my wish."

She walked away from them and Violet gave Caroline a pointed look, "Good job."

The blonde sighed deeply while she rubbed her hands over her face, "Look, I'm sorry. Hey, I'm just drunk and dump tonight. I don't know I- what are you doing?"

The two watched how Elena slowly approached Damon's wardrobe. She carefully opened the door, revealing a room full of maps and post-it cards.

Violet frowned deeply while taking it all in, "What is all that?"

"It's Klaus. Damon's been tracking him down without me", Elena realized as she eyed all the notes infront of them.

Violet frowned confused, "Why would he do that?" Elena sighed and shook her head in disappointment, "I don't know."

Caroline gave them a small glance before she appeared the door,
"Okay- I'm gonna go- looks like you need a moment."

As soon as Violet had helped the angry brunette gather a few of the notes on Damon's bed, she made her way outside into the hallway.

The girl grabbed her phone from her pocket and quickly dialed Damon's number. After a few rings the man answered, his tone laced with sarcasm as always, "Party central."

"Where are you Damon?", Violet questioned the man, now standing on the front porch.

"I'm by the punch bowl", the man answered her hesitantly, his voice sounding quiet suspicious.

The girl frowned, immediately detecting his tone, "Damon, I know your lying- Listen, Elena is furious! She found the Klaus stuff you've been hiding in your closet."

"Oh, oh, I gotta break up beer pong", Damon suddenly interrupted her quickly.

Violet had an expression of annoyance plastered on her face, "Damon-" But the man had already hung up on her.

Violet let out an annoyed groan before she made her way back inside the mansion.

The dark haired girl pushed her way through the crowd, when someone suddenly grabbed her by her wrist. The girl immediately spun around, facing the person, realizing that it was no other than Ethan.

The black haired boy had a large smile plastered on his face while he pulled her into his body, wrapping his arms around her.

At first Violet was at a loss of words, she hadn't seen the boy since the start of summer, because he had been away to visit his parents. The two were dating since sophomore year but to Violet it felt like forever. She had gone through a tought phase with her mother at this time and instantly fell for the boy.

Ethan was currently living with his Aunt, Carol Lookwood, which made him Tyler's cousin and also a werewolf.

The girl let out a loud squeak while she pulled him even more into her, "Ethan, you're back!"

He placed a kiss on top of her head and Violet chuckled before she gazed up into his warm brown eyes.

She quickly pecked the boy onto his lips before she sighed deeply, "I missed you-"

Ethan leaned his forehead against Violets and closed his eyes, "I've missed you so much- you don't even know."

The two remained in each other's embrace for a moment longer, but after a minute Violet pulled back. "I wish I didn't have to cut this short-"

The boy leaned back and let out a deep sighed, "I feel a but coming -"

Violet gave him an apologetic glance, and a small smile, "-but Elena's really going through it tonight- and I wanna be there for her."

Ethan immediately nodded his head before he slowly let go of her, "I understand- I see you later."

The two kissed for a small moment and after that Violet hurried down from the dancefloor- suddenly the guilt sunk in- she hadn't told him about the kiss with Damon. It was innocent- she had only did it because Damon had been dying- basically confessing his love for her in his hallucinating state.

The dark haired girl shook her head to herself before she quickly made her way upstairs, trying to shake the guilt.

When she arrived back in Damon's room, Elena had already gathered all the papers on Damon's large bed.

Violet flopped down on the soft mattress, quickly going through the notes. The two girls were reading through the pages until the door opened once more and Damon entered.

Elena held up a pile of news paper pieces and notes, giving him a death glare.

"What? What are you doing here?" Damon frowned at them. Elena just ignored his question, the rage getting the best of her, "Why didn't you tell me? Why keep it a secret?"

"Can we not do this right now? I'm having a really bad night", the raven haired man stated exhausted while he walked further into his bedroom.

Elena approached him in anger, "All summer, every single time me or Violet came to you with a lead you made me feel like an idiot for having hope and her for supporting me!"

Damon gave her a dark look, before he spoke calmly, "Because you were both idiots. We all were."

"Tell me what you know Damon!", the brunette demanded as she stopped him from walking past her. Damon's eyes narrowed at the brunette, "I now you two need to get back to your party, Elena."

Violet stood up from his bed, joining Elena while she place the pile of notes onto Damon's nightstand, "You know, we're supposed to be in this together. Why didn't you just tell us that you've been tracking Klaus' victims?"

The man turned towards her, an unnerved look on his face, "Because they're not Klaus' victims, Violet. They're Stefan's."

Elena immediately frowned at him, a disbelieving look in her eyes. "What?"

He furiously moved his hands around, "He's left a trail of body parts up and down the Eastern seaboard."

Elena shook her head in denial, the tears whelming up in her eyes, "No, you're wrong."

"I've seen it happen before. He's flipped the switch to full-down Ripper." The man stepped forward and yanked the notes violently out of Elena's hands.

"Stop it, Damon!"

The man had anger in his eyes, "No, you stop it, Elena! Stop looking for him, stop waiting for him to come home. Just stop! Stefan is gone and he's not coming back."

Damon fell silent after that outburst and gave Elena a sad and sympathetic look, "Not in your lifetime."

He glanced at the brunette one last time, before leaving his room.

Violet watched how tears ran down Elena's cheeks. The brunette touched her necklace and Violet immediately brought her into a tight hug.

The dark haired girl patted Elena's back, whispering into her ear, "I'm staying at your house tonight."

After that they quickly left Elena's birthday party at the Salvatore house and when the two teenage girls' stepped through the door of the Gilbert house, Alaric greeted them in the living room. He was packing his stuff.

"What are you doing?", Elena questioned the man in confusion. He sighed deeply before he turned to face the girl, "I'm not gonna stay here anymore."

Elena frowned at him, "What? Why?"

Violet quietly removed herself from the conversation, because she just felt like it wasn't really her business. The dark haired girl moved into the kitchen and placed her bag on the counter, awkwardly shifting from one foot onto the other.

She fiddled with her fingers, as she heard the front door fall close quietly.

The girl then joined Elena in the hallway, giving her a big hug before the two made their way upstairs into the bedroom.

Violet sat on the bed, putting her hair into a low ponytail, while Elena was in the bathroom when suddenly the brunette's phone started ringing.

Violet peeked at the caller ID, but it wasn't shown on the screen. "Elena, your phone!"

Elena hurried out of the bathroom, quickly taking the call, "Hello?"

Her eyes quickly widened while she made eye contact with Violet. "Hello?" The brunette remained silent for a moment.

"Stefan?"
