IT'S ONLY BEEN about 7 hours since olivia and anna's abduction. without the team watching, devin has beat them pretty badly. anna's face had multiple bruises and olivia had blood running down her face from the side of her forehead. devin wasn't with them at this moment for god knows whatever reason, but they weren't complaining. it was the only time they could catch a break. the two women were exhausted, and they could barely keep their head up. their eyes would flutter shut once in a while, but they could never fully close for more than a couple minutes. "liv." anna called. "anna." she replied.
"i need you to promise me something." anna wearily spoke.
"yeah, anything."
"i need you to promise me that you will take care of rosie and ollie after this." anna said. "we know devin is gonna kill someone, and it isn't going to be you. as much as he won't admit it, he has an attachment to you. you need to promise you'll take care of the twins, spencer can even help. they don't trust anyone else, but the two of you. and you know the only other person i trust was literally assigned to go undercover 6 years ago, he can't do anything about this."
olivia instantly picked her head up when hearing anna, "that's insane. devin's not going to kill you. i cannot let that happen. i won't let that happen." anna muttered. "it's only if. please, just tell me you promise."
"okay, fine, i promise."
she couldn't believe what she heard anna say. it was definitely olivia devin was going to kill. it made sense. she's the one he's furious at, not anna. he hasn't even spent half as much time with her as opposed to olivia. it couldn't be her. it wouldn't make sense to liv if it was.
meanwhile, jj and emily had called the team to inform them on their new findings in devin's house. at first they thought it was a normal looking house, but once they stepped foot in his room, they wished they hadn't. jj was speaking to the team as emily continued to rummage around devin's already messy room. "his room is a complete mess, there's a bottle of antidepressant pills next to his bed, but the bottle looks full, and we found. . . photos."
"photos? what photos?" hotch asked.
jj sighed, looking back down at the table in front of her that had multiple black and white pictures scattered around, "it's a bunch of stalker-like pictures of liv, anna, and spence."
"me?" spencer questioned.
"yeah," jj confirmed. "there's one of you and anna standing next to each other at the park, you and liv sitting down on a bench, you carrying liv through sprinklers, you and liv on a local case from what i assume was a month ago. other than that, most of these are just liv and anna."
"so, he's been watching them and planning this out for months." rossi deducted.
"rosie and ollie." spencer mumbled, catching everyone's attention.
"what?" derek asked.
"anna's kids. no one is watching over them. it's 5 in the morning and they're probably still asleep. i have to get them." spencer said, walking out of the conference room. his statement was calm, which surprised everyone, considering his outburst earlier. in actuality, he was devastated for the twins. how was he supposed to tell two ten-year-olds that their mother and godmother have been abducted by a psychopath who makes jokes about what he's doing?

devin came back to wherever they were with some towels and bottles of water. he stopped what he was doing and stared at the two women before him. almost as if he was choosing between them. he's already sucked all the energy from them, but that's not stopping him from wanting to make them suffer even more. he likes seeing them in pain. and despite that his dad would've killed him if olivia never pulled that trigger, he believed she ruined his life. maybe if she never did that, he wouldn't have to experience the constant abuse he faced in his foster home and with his foster parents. if she never pulled that trigger, the four women he helped hayden kill would still be alive. everything would've been better if olivia would've just let arthur kill his son, which is what devin believes. every day, he'd wake up and go to sleep, the first and last thing on his mind being how different everything would've been if olivia and anna never shot arthur.
"liv." devin stated as he inched closer and closer to her. he harshly pushed back her head, placing the towel on her face. he took some water and started to pour it on her face with the towel over it. she was coughing and attempting to gasp for air, which frankly, devin found joy in. however, he did remove the towel from her face and moved on to anna, doing the same thing, but quickly got bored of the activity altogether.
"you wanna know what the worst part was?" he rhetorically asked the girls, more so to olivia. "i thought you were gonna be the big sister i've always wanted. i thought you were gonna visit me every weekend, and i held onto the hope that maybe in a few months, or years, even, you'd adopt me or something. but no, i got stuck with the two crazy old people who thought it'd be fun to push me down stairs and did way worse as their own children laughed!" devin yelled.
he then continued, "you know, i thought tricking a bunch of agents in the FBI would be harder than this. all i had to do was be an incredible liar, i guess. i did commit those murders with hayden because i wanted revenge on you." devin pointed to olivia. "it just so happened that his girlfriend dumped him and was willing to work with me. but he just couldn't wait to pick a new victim, and now look where he is! he's not gonna last a day in prison. and no matter what happens here, i'm never going there."

jj and emily got out of their SUV, meeting with spencer at anna's house. after he left, hotch told the two women to help reid. "do any of you have a lock pick or something? i don't have a key." spencer asked the agents following him. emily reached in her pocket and handed the pick to him as he picked the lock. he turned on the lights in the house, going up to ollie's room as emily and jj went to rosie's.
emily knocked on rosie's door as spencer knocked on oliver's. "ollie? it's me, spencer."
"rosie? i'm agent prentiss."
the two children opened up their doors, rubbing the sleep from their eyes, not being used to waking up this early and the sudden sight of the bright lights. "guys, these are my friends jennifer and emily. they work at the FBI with me." spencer told them as the two women gave the twins friendly waves.
"where's mom and aunt liv?" oliver asked.
"your mom and aunt liv went somewhere, but they'll be back, i promise." spencer softly smiled at him. "do you guys wanna go on a little trip to the FBI?"
the children thought about it for a while before nodding their heads. they were tired and they didn't even know what was going on, but they trust spencer. they didn't know any better than to just go along with it. the three agents helped the twins get their jackets and shoes on. both rosie and ollie took their shared tablet with them, so that way, they'd have something to be preoccupied by.
when they arrived back at the BAU, hotch let the children stay in his office. spencer could tell something was wrong when he saw hotch. after leaving the twins in the office with jj and emily staying behind with them, spencer walked back to the conference room, his eyes finding the video stream of olivia and anna back on. devin was kicking, pushing, and hitting olivia as anna attempted to refrain her sobs.
then, devin started to trace his gun over olivia's head, trailing all the way to her neck as he spoke to the team, "you know, i'm actually getting pretty bored. so, i just wanted all of you to know that after this, it will all be over. i'm also going to make this easier for all of you and say that i'm in a large building where people store things. you guys better hurry up, or else you'll have to start planning olivia and anna's funerals. good luck because time is ticking."
with that, devin ended the video again, leaving spencer to analyze his words. "a large building where people store things." he repeated. "it's a warehouse, he's in a warehouse."
penelope started searching if he owns any warehouses, which he doesn't. then, she started to search any warehouses in arthur's name. the search came up empty. derek suggested to research devin's mom and find out if she owned any warehouses before her death, which she did own one. penelope sent the address to everyone and as the team dispersed to put their bulletproof vests, spencer stopped them.
"wait, he said after this it will all be over, we better hurry up, time is ticking." he thought aloud. "garcia, you said devin's a chem major?" she nodded her head, "yeah, and he's really good in his classes, his school is offering to let him graduate early."
"was hayden cameron a chem major, too?" spencer asked her as penelope began typing away. "yeah." penelope told him.
spencer had that look on his face. the look he had on his face whenever the gears in his head were turning. he analyzed the words devin had said, not believing he would just now make it so easy for them to find him. especially if he's been planning this for what seems like months. "this might be a stretch, but, guys, i think devin has an explosive in the warehouse and he's planning to kill everyone, including himself." spencer continued, "he said after this it's all going to be over. we know he's suffering from severe depression, and him and hayden have been killing women who look like anna and olivia. this is his endgame."
"everyone go get ready. get prentiss and let jj stay with anna's kids, i'll call bomb squad." hotch ordered, the team leaving the conference room afterwards. penelope stayed behind, of course, but she decided to help jj look after anna's children.
the two women, olivia and anna, looked rough. they felt exhausted and weak. liv had multiple bruises on her face, a bigger one near her eye. sticky, crimson-colored liquid ran down her nose and forehead leaving an uncomfortable feeling on her face. her neck had purple bruises due to devin almost strangling her to her death earlier. anna had more bruises on her body since devin abducted and tortured her first. her eyes were puffy and red, a mixture of dried tears and a black eye. she was sure that her jaw was broken, but she couldn't really feel anything at this point.
devin started to untie olivia from her chair. he knew she was too weak to try anything. hell, she didn't even try to stand up because he's already taken so much energy from her that she was literally unable to. he threw her on the cold, hard, concrete ground, anna protesting for what seemed like the thousandth time in the past 9 hours. "stop, stop hurting her. do whatever. . . you want to me, not her." she softly murmured.
devin just rolled his eyes at her attempt to try and help her friend, "relax, you'll get your turn."
he started to brutally kick olivia in her stomach as she winced in pain, instinctively placing her hand on the spots he kicked. "i'm sorry." she whispered to devin.
he stopped kicking, "what?"
"i'm sorry." she apologized a little louder, immediately groaning in pain after. "i should've visited that day. i shouldn't have kept you waiting."
the tall, young adult shook his head, "no. no! you do not get to say you're sorry, expecting that i'll just all of a sudden let you go!"
"i don't care if you let me go anymore. i just want you to release anna. i truly am sorry." she told him.
he began hitting his head with the palm of his hand, over and over again, each thump getting harsher. "stop it! you aren't sorry! this is a trick. just like what my dad did that day. he told me we were going to see my mom. but i ended up in a fucking police station instead!"
his statement confused both women. it didn't make sense. his mother was dead. "devin, your mother. . . she passed 8 years ago. before any of that happened." olivia managed to tell him. "you're lying!" he kicked her once more.
"she's not!" anna began. "marissa, your mother, she was your dad's first victim."
"just shut up!" devin shouted. although her vision was slightly distorted, olivia was able to see tears dwelling in his eyes.
"what happened to you wasn't fair. none of it was. but there is still hope for you to do the right thing." olivia croaked.
he scoffed, "the right thing? olivia, literally give me a fucking break. you didn't seem to do the right thing when i was 13. you're not one to talk about doing what's right. don't patronize me."
while devin, olivia, and anna were talking, the team has finally arrived. their sirens and lights were off, not wanting to scare devin and risking things. morgan, rossi, and emily walked around back with their guns practically glued to their hands. hotch and spencer were at the front entrance of the warehouse, SWAT right behind them. the two men entered the warehouse, startling the three individuals inside. spencer saw olivia on the ground, as devin had his arm wrapped around anna's neck, a gun pointed at her head. he assumed he had just untied her since they stood right beside a chair with a bunch of ropes laying around it. olivia was already laying on her side on the concrete, glaring at him and hotch.
"devin wyatt, we're going to need you to let anna edwards go and let her and olivia griffins walk out of here." hotch said to him, his gun pointed directly towards him.
"unfortunately, they can't walk because i did technically beat the living shit out of them, not gonna lie." he let out a breathy laugh. "i mean look at that one." he pointed to liv. "she looks like she's about to die.
spencer clenched his jaw, "where's the bomb?" he deadpanned.
"oh thank god, i'm really glad you got that because i was afraid that if you didn't, you wouldn't be as scared." devin said. spencer could tell the second he mentioned the bomb, both anna and liv were terrified as neither one of them had any knowledge about an explosive. "and also, you're kinda already too late. it goes off on the 10th hour, it is now approximately the 9th hour and 56th minute, i believe. wow, i can be a genius like you, huh doctor?"
hotch's eyes would glance to his watch, watching the minutes. spencer didn't respond. he realized something, and he was going to use that against him. he slowly put his gun back in his holster, putting his hands up. "you're not gonna kill liv." he stated, as if it was a fact and he was sure of it. "you're not gonna kill anna either. you've never had a proper mother figure in your life, but olivia was the closest one to it. anna never did anything to you. you just feel like you want to hurt her because you know liv cares about her. and because you feel like olivia abandoned you and the horrible things you had to experience, you felt hopeless and you felt like you were going insane. devin, if you let them go, i promise you we can get you the help you need. the help that your father nor your foster parents ever gave you."
"you're right. i don't want to hurt anna. but i do want to hurt olivia. and i know hurting every single bone in her body won't hurt her the way i want it to, which is why i'm resorting to this: you can help olivia off the floor now." devin told the hazel eyed man. spencer quickly went over to liv, giving her support so she can stand. he was relieved that she was in his arms again, it just wasn't the way he expected this to go. they walked over to where spencer was previously standing as he wiped off some blood from her cheek.
devin then diverted his attention to the blonde woman in his arms. "wanna say one last thing?" he quietly asked her, spencer nor hotch clearly making out what he said.
anna looked at her best friend who was in the arms of the man she believes is perfect for her. the woman who was there by her side for almost 20 years. without olivia, she doesn't think she'd make it pretty far. she probably would've died years ago if it wasn't for olivia constantly worrying about her safety. when the father of her children passed, olivia was the one who was holding her hand in the delivery room. she was the one who took care of not only anna, but her kids as well. olivia was the one to always put people in their place when other students had picked on anna in school. they graduated middle school, high school, college, and the FBI academy together. she couldn't imagine her life without liv. but she knew today would be the end of something. and it was going to be her life. "i love you forever." anna's eyes were glossy, tears spilling out as she managed to give olivia a smile, enjoying every last moment she gets to see her. olivia of course shook her head, knowing what she was thinking. tears ran down her face, giving anna a stop doing that, i know what you're trying to do look as anna gave a look in return that said it's okay. everything will be all right.
too many things happened so fast, yet it also felt like it was happening in slow motion. hotch looked down at his watch, noticing it was about to hit 10 hours since olivia has been kidnapped. "prentiss, get out of there." hotch spoke into his earpiece. emily signaled to rossi and morgan to get out as quick as they can. hotch was about to leave before calling out, "reid!" spencer glanced at olivia, whose gaze never left anna. he felt absolutely terrible for what was about to happen.
bang!
olivia screamed at the sight. devin had pointed his gun to his head, pulling the trigger, taking both him and anna out. it was like in that moment, all of olivia's energy got restored. she tried running up to the bodies, but couldn't because of spencer's grip on her waist as he was trying to evacuate them out of the area. she attempted to fight her way out of the grip, hearing spencer tell her, "stop, via, we have to go!" but she didn't care. she just wanted to see anna.
however, spencer's grip was far too strong for olivia's wounded and injured body. he was able to drag them both out of there, just in time before the building eventually bursted into flames. olivia gasped and yelled once more, begging spencer to let her go as her sobs got in the way. he held her back with every time olivia has jolted her body towards the small, burning building. she eventually gave up, letting her weak body fall to the ground, but spencer's hands making her body gently reach the pavement as his back slid against a fence.
spencer felt absolutely heartbroken. him and anna were building a very wonderful friendship, to the point where he felt comfortable with her. as if she was a sister he's never had. a few tears trickled down his cheeks, not as much as olivia though. she was sobbing, putting her chest into her cries. he felt horrible for her. he couldn't imagine what she could be going, despite numerous similar events. he's never lost a best friend of 20 years, so he couldn't really put himself in olivia's position. the most he could do for her right now is to be her source of comfort. he held her tightly in his arms, not ever daring to let go.
the team's eyes would shift between the warehouse and the couple who sat on the ground. the team's hearts ached for anna and liv. they did get along with anna when they first met at rossi's dinner party. emily was holding back tears of her own, hotch had a soft grieving expression on his face, a sorrowful look was on derek's, and rossi with a grief-stricken manner.
as for olivia, she couldn't believe this was real life. she felt as if she couldn't breathe. the mix of tears and a few drops of blood on her face didn't mix well, but she couldn't give a care in the world for that. her best friend in the entire world is gone and there was nothing she could do. as the sounds of sirens and visuals of flashing lights from medics and firefighters seemed to get closer, the event of anna murdered in front of her played in her head again and again. each time felt like it was suffocating her. as she was uncontrollably sobbing, she could see everything gradually getting dark, until she simply saw nothing at all.
