Chapter 3
I looked at the eye in worry, how was this even possible.. Maybe it took a picture of my eye? But how could a book do that? I then grabbed the book, and decided to take it home. Even if it was fake, it could still be fun to read. Being in the hamlet that Sagertio used to live in, it was possible it was real. It was extremely heavy, I would use a wagon, but home was very close so it didn't really matter either way. I started to walk towards Miss Carthy's desk, but as I walked I kept leaning to one direction nearly collapsing. If I had to guess, the book was about 80 kilograms.(176.37 lbs or pounds).
I eventually reached her desk, I quickly dropped the book on her desk so I could take a break. I was literally sweating from how much work it was to hold it. When it hit the desk, it made a huge boom echoing throughout the entire library. Miss Carthy looked at the book in shock. "Wow this thing is huge," She exclaimed standing up from the chair she was sitting on.
"You can say that again," I said panting, I felt accomplished for getting it this far. Which seemed pathetic, and it probably was.
Miss Carthy examined the book with a complexing expression on her face. "How odd, this book doesn't have a code on it."
"It doesn't?" I asked confused, looking for the code myself. Assuming she simply didn't see it, her vision wasn't the best so it was possible. As I looked, just like she mentioned, it was nowhere to be seen. "That's weird."
"I'll tell ya what I'm thinking, I probably just forgot to add it," She said giggling slightly, acting as if forgetting things was hilarious. In a way it could be, but in the same way- it could easily turn into a curse. Even if you try to look only towards the shiny layer, the dark flaws will still emerge at full force. Creating a pit of emptiness- and dismay.
"Probably," I said nodding, putting a smile on my face like she had.
Miss Carthy then wrote something in her note book. Afterwards, she grabbed a piece of tape and wrote something on it. Then placed the tape on the spine of the book. It read, "D#983." "Enjoy this book," She said walking back to her chair and sitting down.
"Thank you, and I definitely will," I said picking up the book, and walking out of the library. The book was still heavy, but it seemed to be getting lighter the longer I held it- it wasn't noticeable at first, but it definitely became noticeable after a bit of walking. Maybe it was simply my arms getting used to the weight? Was that even a thing? Before I could think of anymore questions- I heard the sound of the Akami's Drums. The Akami's were a group of thugs in our community, they were the ones who mainly vandalized the mayor's building. They didn't have guns- or even weapons of any sort. They simply used their fist, and with the fact there are always so many of them, they easily overpower anyone without even trying. The drums they had were meant to show that even the smallest things, they had control over. For obvious reasons, no one ever even thought of this- usually making them look stupid.
"Oh Hi Carter!" One yelled. He had short black hair, and dark grey eyes. With face paint covering most of his face. He wore a Native American like style clothing, even though he was obviously not Native American. He even managed to get his grubby hands on moccasins.
"Not again," I muttered, quickening my pace to get away from them. Even with my efforts, they would easily be able to get to me.
"You know the drill pal- hand over the cash, then the beating!" Another yelled, this one was a few steps behind the one who yelled my name earlier. He looked the opposite as the first. He had red hair, that was obviously dyed because of how aggressive the color was. It looked like whoever did his hair failed rather badly- because he had hair dye stained on his neck. He had more blue eyes, and his hair was long and spiky. He wore a torn hoodie, with ripped jeans. In some holes, you could even see his boxers.
"You know I don't got cash!" I yelled back still moving away with the little strength I had left. Maybe I can use the spell book? I thought to myself, looking at the massive book. Then I looked around, seeing if there was a place I could quickly escape them. I was currently on the road to my home, if I cut into the woods, I may have time to check it out?
"Then we'll just be given' ya an extra beating!" The first yelled. They were quickly gaining on me.
I then ran into the woods as fast as I could, to avoid the gangs I usually made large holes in the earth to hide. I marked where they were by nailing a nail into the trees around it. It worked well surprisingly, and I've never been caught inside one. I quickly hid in one that was near the road. It was under a tree, and a few stones covered around it making it practically impossible to find.
I then heard a group of people running into the woods, crunching the leaves beneath their feet. "Where the Hell did he go?!" Someone yelled. I couldn't see them from where I was, but they sounded very close.
I could stay here and wait it out, but they sounded close. I opened the book, "Guess it's time to test this thing out," I whispered flipping to the table of contents. I looked over at the transformation section, "Guess I'll try this," I muttered flipping to page 203. It was a transformation spell for a kitten. I shrugged, thinking I'd be fun. The page read,
Well I guess that's one way to decribe a cat, I thought as I read the passage. Below the writing it read, "ㄒㄖ ㄒ尺卂几丂千'尺爪, 尺乇卂ᗪ乇ㄒ卄 ㄒ卄丨丂 卩卂丂丂卂Ꮆ乇 卂ㄥㄖㄩᗪ."
"Well, what do I have to lose?" I said out loud, "Cats- Hath said to beest sly, at each moment on the prowl," I began, instantly- I started to glow a white color, I continued, "Independent hunters- Living high- lone, those gents at each moment thrive'th. With their night vision, and their cuddly appearance, all shall beest, fool'd none can interim it, something so precious as one. With their gifts, thy mission wonneth't ev'r faileth." I said, once I finished fur began to sprout from my entire body. I then quickly shrunk, and grew a tail and ears. My body shaped into the position of a cat's, and quickly, the light ended- and I was a kitten. My clothes fell on to me, incense I was so small- I could no longer wear my clothes.
