The streetlights cast a dim orange aura around the empty streets. People laugh and cars siren in the distance. Graffiti decorated the grime covered walls and beer cans litter the ground.
You sway one foot in front of the other as you teeter down the empty street, lost in your own thought.

It's fun being alone. Despite what they say.
No one holding you down. No one telling what to do or what not to do. No one worried about you. No one to hug when you get home. No one to kiss and spoil. Not even a friend to wish you happy birthday.
It's really fun being alone.

A loud screech snaps you from your thoughts. It's followed by a loud thump in the alleyway ahead of you. You're not stupid. You're not going to run head first into potential danger. You creep down the street and peer into the alley on my left. But there's no gang war or bitch fight.
There's no one at all.
You release a breath you didn't know you were holding. It's fine. No danger. One foot in front of the other you walk forward, expecting to pass the alleyway.

"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT. UP!"

You flinch at the sudden scream. Almost out of nowhere, there's a figure pressing their body against the alley wall. Their hands are digging into their skull, and their screaming loud sobs.
"JUST STOP PLEASE! JUST STOP!"

The slide down the wall, kicking their feet against the floor. You cautiously make my way over to them, staring closing as their faces comes into the light.
Oh my god.
It's Klaus.

"Hey Klaus" You say softly, your breathing now rapid. "Hey buddy it's just me. Hey are you okay?"

Klaus has curled himself into a ball, rocking gently back and forth. He's wearing a torn band t shirt, topped off with a black feather boa and black ripped jeans. His nail polish is chipped in the light and his hair a mess.
"They won't stop. I did all I could I-I-I took the pills I drank oh I drank so much but they won't. Stop."

You remember Klaus getting the voices when we were kids. You remember asking his father where he went after he disappeared for two weeks. Reginald said he was on a special mission. But Diego informed you that he was locked in a colosseum. Surrounded by spirits.

You crouch down in front of him, holding his shaking hands.
"Hey Klaus look at me"

He slowly raises his head, and your brain flatlines. His happy go lucky face is broken beyond repair. His eyeliner is running in hot streaks as tears spill from his red eyes. Scratches line his face from where he tried to forcefully remove the voices from his head. He looks at you with pained eyes, as you bite back tears.
"Listen to my voice" you say slowly and calmly. "Listen to how steady it is. Listen to its best and its tone. You doing it?"

Klaus hesitates, but nods.
"Good. Only listen to my voice. Let it fill your head. Focus on each one of my words"

Klaus blinks away his tears, and his tense frame seems to relax.
"Can you hear me Klaus?"

"Yeah" he whispers.

"Just focus on my voice so it's the only voice you hear. Is it working?"

His sweaty hands start to hold yours, sending beams of warmth through you. His breathing evens out. You're so close to his face, you can see glints of orange from the streetlights in his dazzling eyes.
"You're okay Klaus"

He smiles weakly at you.
"Thank you" he mutters.

"Did Klaus Hargreeves just thank me? God I never thought I'd see the day?"

Klaus pulls an overly shocked expression.
"Did Y/N just insult me? And I thought that you were too good for that"

"I guess we're both full of surprises"
You stare into his eyes, getting lost in the faint tear tracks. His hand lets go of yours and moves to your face. You see his face crack as he cups your cheek, and he starts to break down again.

"Hey hey Klaus it's alright" you coo, as he bows his head and his shoulders shake.

But suddenly, his head is up. He has pulled you forward, and he connected your lips. The kiss isn't lust filled. But it has a sense of longing, and dare I say, love?
Klaus pulls away slightly, barely a centimeter between your lips.

"Is it okay if I keep you around?"

You smile. "Darling, like you could get rid of me"
