Chapter 8: The Tree by the Clearing
The clearing came into view. Lush green grass dominated the landscape, a lone tree hanging
over the small clearing, casting ancient shadows on the rushing river.
The tree hung low, its leaves shading the area all throughout the day.
I often took solace from the heat of summer underneath this lone tree.
The bark on one side was worn from use. There was a small indent on that side,
making it the perfect headrest. I approached the familiar tree, patting it in greeting.
This tree was the closest thing I had to a friend. I sit underneath it, listening to the wind
play with its leaves. I lean on its gentle shoulders, and close my eyes.
