Chapter 10: Something so Delicate

Ishikawa-san sat after a quiet thank you. Her bright hair seemed to glow as it lazily wafted

against the dark bark of the tree. I leaned against the opposite side, not knowing what to say.

The sun was bleeding through the leaves, pleasantly warming my skin. I sat down. The grass

was soft, swaying with the sweet scented wind. It made me sleepy.

I scooted closer to her. She had fallen asleep. Her head rested gently on the worn bark, her

white hat resting on her lap. I couldn't help but smile.

The way she slept, I couldn't help but envy her. The childlike carefree feeling, where

did it go? I remember the feeling, a fragile euphoria shattered by the slightest provocation.

It was so long ago, the fleeting happiness replaced by this ever present anhedonia.
