Dustin opens the bathroom door in the Wheeler's basement, "Guys!" he yells, interrupting El and Mike's moment, "It's Lucas, I think he's in trouble."
El and Mike stare at Dustin
"Do you remember how he said he was looking for the gate?"
"Yeah."
"What if he found it?"
Tess and Lucas were yelling in their walkie talkies, while biking as fast as they can away from something.
"What're they saying?" Mike asks, barely being able to hear anything.
"I don't know, they're way out of range," Cheryl tells him.
"son of a bitch!" Tess yells through the radio.
"Lucas, Tess, if you can hear us, slow down. We can't understand you."
"Yes, I copy! Do you?" Lucas shouts into the speaker, "They know about Eleven!"
"Get out of there!" Tess yells, knowing that they'd be in the Wheeler's basement, since they always go there to hang out, "They know about Eleven!"
"The bad men are coming! All of them! Do you hear me? The bad men are coming!"
"'Mad hen'," Dustin repeats what he thought Tess and Lucas were saying, turning towards his friends, "Does that mean anything to you?"
"Like a code name or something?"
"The bad men are coming!"
"'Bad men'"
"Bad men!"
"Stay here," Mike says, running upstairs, to ask his mum something.
"What's that guy doing?" Cheryl asks Dustin, as they both look out the window.
"You don't think..."
"Mom!" Mike yells out.
"Mom!" he yells out again, since she ignored him the first time.
"I'm sorry, can you just hold on please?" Karen says into her phone, "Michael, I'm on the phone. I've told you a million times—"
"Did you schedule any repairs?"
"What?" Karen stands there, staring at her son confused.
"Is there anyone supposed to come and do repairs on the house?"
"I don't understand. Is there something wrong—"
"No, Mom, nothing's wrong in the house."
"Mike!" Dustin yells out to Mike.
"One second."
"Mike! We need to leave... right now."
"Michael!" Karen calls out to her son, still extremely confused.
"If anyone asks where I am, I've left the country," Mike tells him mum, just making her even more confused.
"What?"
"Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go!" Dustin yells to his friends, as they all get on their bikes, with El holding onto Mike.
The bad men notice them riding away, so they follow them in their cars.
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God."
"Dustin!" Tess screams into her radio, "Dustin, do you copy?"
"Yeah, Tess, they're on us," Dustin responds, still paniking.
"Where are you?"
"Cornwallis."
"Meet us at Elm and Cherry!"
"Copy. Elm and Cherry!" Dustin yells out to Mike and Cheryl, so they know where to go.
"Okay."
"Shit!" The four friends see more vans turn into the street they're on, "This way, come on!"
Two little kids sing together in a playground, when they hear bikes ringing.
"Out of the way!" "Out of the way!" Dustin and Cheryl say at the same time, all of them riding through the gap between the random children.
"Lucas! Tess!" Dustin calls out to his friends, who were still riding as fast as they can.
"Where are they?"
"I don't know," Cheryl stammers.
"I think we lost them."
Tires screech as the vans turn into the street.
"Go, go, go, go, go!"
"Go, go, go, go, go!"
"Faster, faster!"
"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!" Tess yells out, hearing the vans get closer behind her.
Eleven uses her powers to flip the van who was getting too close for her liking, to fly above them, and land upside down.
"Holy... holy shit!"
"Did... did you see what she did to that van?"
"No, Dustin, we missed it," Tess sarcastically tells him.
"I mean that was..."
"Awesome," Lucas finishes for Tess.
"It was awesome."
"Everything I said about you being a traitor and stuff... I was wrong," Lucas tells El, making both Tess and El's eyes widen in shock, "I'm sorry."
"Friends... friends don't lie. I'm sorry, too," El says, looking over at Tess who just scoffs.
"Me, too," Mike says next, this time Tess rolls her eyes, walking closer.
"Well I'm not," Tess says annoyed. Making everyones smile fade, except hers. Her smile disappeared when Lucas interrupted her.
"Tess..." Cheryl whispers, signalling for her to talk in private.
"What," Tess asks her once they're far enough that the others can see them, but not hear them.
"Why don't you like El?"
"Why? Why?!" Tess yells at Cheryl, "Did you not see her nearly kill me!? She even calls you Cherry! I thought you didn't like that name."
"I just don't think shes had a good childhood..."
"So you're choosing someone who you've known for less than a week to your best friend that you've known for more than 5 years?!"
"What? No!" Cheryl stammers. She looks to see if anyones staring at them, thankfully the others have their backs turned to them.
"Don't tell anyone about this," Cheryl asks a now confused Tess.
Cheryl pecks her best friends lips, before running back over to the others.
Tess stands there shocked, bringing herself out of the small trance. Then goes over the party where they're all sitting down.
"This is Randolph Road, right here," Lucas says, drawing a line indicating its the road where him and Tess might've found the gate, "The fence starts here, and goes all the way around. And this is the lab right here."
"The gate's gotta be in there somewhere. It's gotta be," Tess adds.
"Well, who owns Hawkins Lab?" Dustin asks.
"The sign says "'Department of Energy'."
"Department of Energy? What do you think that means?"
"It means government. Military."
"Then why does it say 'Energy'?" Cheryl asks.
"Just trust me, all right? It's military. My dad's told me before."
"Mike's right. There's soldiers out front," Lucas says.
"Do they make, like, light bulbs or something?"
"No, weapons... to fight the Russians, and commies and stuff."
"Weapons."
"Oh, Jesus, this is bad."
"Really bad. The place is like a fortress."
"Well, what do we do?"
"I don't know, but we can't go home. We're fugitives now."
"Guys? Do you hear that?" Dustin asks his friends, hearing helicopter noises above him.
"Go, go, go, go!" Mike shouts, trying to look for something to hide in.
"Come on, come on!"
"It's stuck."
"Let's go, let's go, let's go!"
"Hurry up! Hurry, come on!"
"Come on!"
"Go, go, go, go, go, go!"
Once they get in the abandoned bus, Mike tells them to get down.
"Look, we need to find them before they do," Hopper tells the teens - Jonathan, Alex, and Nancy - along with Joyce.
"Do you have any idea where he might have gone?" Hopper asks Nancy, completely forgetting that Alex has a sister too.
"No, I don't," Nancy says.
"I need you to think."
"I don't know. We haven't talked a lot. I mean, lately..."
"Look, is there any place that your... your parents don't know about that he might go?"
"I don't know," Nancy stutters.
"I might," Jonathan says.
"What?"
"I don't know where he is, but I think I know how to ask him," Jonathan tells the chief.
Once they arrive at the Byers' house, they start searching for Will's walkie talkie.
"I got it," Alex calls out, handing it over to Nancy.
"Mike, are you there? Mike?"
The 6 teens hear a muffled sound.
"You guys hear that?" Tess asks her friends. Tess grabs the walkie talkie out of Mike's bag, after realising thats where the sound was coming from.
"Mike, it's me, Nancy. Mike, are you there?"
"Mike, we need you to answer."
"Is that your sister?" Lucas asks Mike.
"This is an emergency, Mike. Do you copy? Mike, do you copy?"
"Okay, this is really weird," Cheryl says, uncomfortable. Tess notices that, so she pulls her best friend in for a hug, also intertwining their hands.
"Don't answer," Mike tells Tess, who was still holding the walkie talkie.
"She said it was an emergency," Tess tells Mike, like he didn't hear his own sister.
"What if it's a trick?"
"It's your sister!"
"What if the bad people kidnapped her? What if they're forcing her to say this?"
"I need you to answer."
"It's like Lando Calrissian. Don't answer," Dustin says, making Cheryl confused, mainly cause she wasn't too into the geeky shit her friends like.
"We need to know that you're there, Mike," Nancy says into the walkie talkie once more, before Hopper grabs it from her, "Listen, kid, this is the chief. If you're there, pick up. We know you're in trouble and we know about the girl."
"Why is she with the chief?" Tess asks out of no where.
"How the hell does he know about..."
"We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up. Are you there? Do you copy? Over."
"Anybody got any other ideas?" Mike asks them, but they all just stay silent, waiting for Mike to answer.
"Yeah, I copy. It's Mike. I'm here. We're here."
The party finally gets up off the dirty floor of the schoool bus, and sit on the seats instead. Tess and Cheryl sit together on one side. Mike and El are together on the other side. While Lucas is sat down by himself, and Dustin is just pacing around.
"Will you stop pacing?" Tess says to Dustin, getting fed up with him pacing so much.
"It's been way too long. Do you know what? Maybe you're right. Maybe this is all a trap and the bad men are coming to get us right now!" Dustin yells.
"It's not a trap," Mike tells his friend.
"Why would the chief set us up?" Cheryl asks Dustin, like he would know the answer, "Nancy, maybe, but the chief?" she says, making Mike stare at he confused, and a bit annoyed at the insult towards his sister.
"Lando Calrissian."
"Would you shut up about Lando?"
"I don't feel good about this. I don't feel good about this!" Dustin yells to his friends.
"When do you feel good about anything?" Tess yells, louder than Dustin, trying to get him to calm down.
Noises of vehicles are heard by the teens, so they get back on the ground.
"Shit!"
"Go, go, go, go."
"Lando," Dustin whispers again.
"You think they saw us?" Mike asks.
"Both of you, shut up," Tess snaps, not wanting to loose her best friend from the bad men El was talking about.
The door to the school bus swings open, from one of the bad men. but the chief was quick to rush over and punch them in the nose before they could get in the bus.
"All right, let's go," Hopper tells the kids who were scared for their lives, and on the ground.
The teens were hesitant at first, but ran out when the chief screamed for them to get out.
"Mike," Nancy says, seeing her younger brother was alright, "Oh, my God. Mike!"
"Tess!" Alex calls out to her sister, thankful that she didn't loose her other sibling.
"Is that my dress?" Nancy stares at Eleven, who was indeed wearing Nancy Wheeler's dress.
Once everyone was safe at the Byers' house, in the living room. The party basically explain what they had learnt from Mr Clarke during Will's funeral.
"Is this gate underground?" Hopper asks out of no where.
"Yes," El replies.
"Near a large water tank?"
"Yes."
"How do you know all that?" Cheryl stutters while asking her dad.
"He's seen it."
"Is there any way that you could... that you could reach Will?" Joyce asks El, That you could talk to him in this—"
"The Upside Down," Cheryl says, knowing the Byers mum had forgotten what it was called.
"Down. Yeah."
"And my friend Barbara?" Nancy asks El as well, "Can you find her, too?"
Eleven puts the blindfold around her eyes, with the help of Cheryl. While Tess puts Will's walkie talkie on the table.
El tries to find Will and Barb, but unfortunately fails.
"I'm sorry," El whispers.
"What?"
"What's wrong? What happened?"
"I can't find them," El tells them, crying a bit.
When Eleven and Cheryl go to the bathroom to wash the blood off El. As the rest of the party explain to the older people about El's powers.
"Well..." Joyce stutters, "How do we make her better?"
"We don't. We just have to wait and try again."
"Well, how long?" Nancy asks.
"I don't know."
After a while, Cheryl and El come out of the bathroom, "The bath," El speaks up.
"What?"
"She says she can find them," Cheryl tells the others, "In the bath," El adds.
Apparently Dustin knows Mr Clarke's phone number, so he calls him in need of some information while Tess writes down what the teacher says.
While the phone rings, Dustin decides to ask his best friend something.
"So..." Dustin starts, making Tess look at him with a confused face, "You and Cheryl, hey?" Dustin says with a grin.
Tess chuckles smiling down at her shoes, remembering what Cheryl had done earlier.
"Cheryl may or may not have kissed me," Tess whispers extremely quite, but Dustin still hears.
"You wh—" Dustin starts, but gets cut off. Quickly mouthing 'tell me later' to Tess, as she nods understanding what he meant.
"Hello?"
"Mr. Clarke? It's Dustin and Tess."
"Dustin? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. I just, I..." Dustin tries to think of an excuse.
Tess grabs the phone from Dustin, "We have a science question," she speaks into the phone. Tess hands the phone back to Dustin, and he holds it up so the both of them can hear their teacher talk, while also being able for the teacher to hear them.
"It's ten o'clock on Saturday. Why don't we pick this up—"
"Do you know anything about sensory deprivation tanks?" Tess asks, getting ready to write down anything.
"Specifically how to build one?"
"Sensory deprivation? What is this for?"
"Fun," Dustin tells Mr Clarke. Tess tries to not laugh at the stupid response.
"Okay. Well... Why don't we talk about it Monday? After school, okay?"
"You always say we should never stop being curious. To always open any curiosity door we find."
"Dustin—"
"Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?"
Dustin hears his teacher sigh, so he takes that as a victory. He puts the phone up to Tess' ear so she can hear what he says.
After Tess writes down everything that Mr Clarke had told her, she shows Dustin.
"Yep, all right. Yeah, we'll be careful," Tess tells her teacher, "Definitely. All right, Mr. Clarke."
"Yeah, I'll see you on Monday."
"I'll see you on Monday, Mr. Clarke," Dustin says, before hanging up, "Bye."
"Alright Dustin," Tess smiles, high-fiving him. Which he gladly returns the smile and high-five.
"Do you still have that kiddie pool we bobbed for apples in?" Tess and Dustin both turn around and ask Joyce at the same time. Both Dustin and Tess were trying so hard to hold back their laughs.
"I think so. Yeah. Yeah," Joyce responds.
"Good. Then we just need salt," Tess says next. "Lots of it," Dustin adds.
"How much is 'lots'?"
"1,500 pounds," Tess says, holding up the paper she wrote on with a slight smile.
"Well, where are we gonna get that much salt?"
"The school..." Hopper says out of nowhere, making everyone face him.
Once everyone gets to the school, they all get tasks to set up the bathtub.
"This damn thing is heavy," Lucas grunts, as him and Cheryl try to set up the little pool they used for apple bobbing. While Dustin and Tess sit and watch them struggle.
"What did you mean Cheryl kissed you?" Dustin turns to Tess.
"I knew you were dumb, but not this dumb," Tess laughs at her own joke.
"When did it happen?"
"Come on. It's upside down," Cheryl tells Lucas.
"After Lucas apologised to El. Y'know, when Cheryl pulled me away against my will," Tess tells Dustin, like they're popular girls in high school who like to gossip about shit going on in their piers lives.
Dustin sits there in shock, wondering how he missed that.
"We should probably help them befor—" Tess starts but gets cut off by Lucas yelling.
"No, this way," Lucas yells at Cheryl.
"Oh, you wanna go?" Cheryl argues back. After years, Tess had finally rubbed off on her.
"Yeah lets go," Dustin tells Tess.
Dustin and Tess run up to stop their friends before they start fighting. Tess holds Cheryl back, while Dustin holds Lucas back.
Once the two had calmed down, Tess and Dustin let go.
"Okay, um..." Tess starts, "How does this even work?"
"Try that side," Cheryl tells her.
Both of the girls try to put the pool out, but they fail.
"Son of a bitch!" Tess yells.
"Pull it back. Pull it back."
"I am!"
"One, two, three," Lucas says, trying to hold it out with Tess, but it resulted in Lucas falling on his butt, "Shit!" Tess starts laughing at Lucas, but before he could hit her, Dustin holds him back again.
Once everyone had gotten back to the hall, El started looking around for Barb. Unfortunately, Barbra Holland was long gone. El starts looking for Will now.
"Castle Byers," El whispers, "Castle Byers."
Unlike Barb, Will was actually alive! :D
"Will. Will?" El whispers again, making Joyce gasp at the mention of her youngest sons name.
"You... you tell him... tell him I'm coming," Joyce tells El, who did what she was asked.
"Mom is coming," El whispers to Will, "Your mom... she's coming for you."
"Hurry. Hurry," Will weakly whispered back.
"Okay. Listen, you tell him to... to stay where he is," Joyce tells El next, "We're coming. We're coming, okay? We're coming, honey."
"Just... just hold on a little longer. Will. Will."
"Will? Will!"
"Oh, okay, okay. I've got you," Joyce tells El, holding her as she whimpers, "It's okay. I got you. I got you. I got you, honey. You did so good."
"Are you okay?" Cheryl asks El.
