Sink or Swim

Allison, during ten weeks of taking care of Buck, and taking pictures for the Fire Marshal and the Police Department. She was exhausted. Letting out a small yawn, she looks around and saw the Fire Department finishing up their job and began heading out. Buck was at home, sulking about everything that has happened.

She's tried to help and make him happy and get him to go out with her but it didn't work. Every attempt that was made: failed. Allison decided she needed to back away for a little bit and give him his space while she went and did her job.

Allison kind of gave up on making him happy or at least, perking him up after everything that has happened. Sure, they're dating now and he's made her the happiest she's ever been.

Letting out a small sigh, she walks to the pier and looks out into the ocean, it was nice. The ocean air smelt amazing and calming. She then turns around and begins walking towards the fair happening at the pier.

She then saw two familiar people walking in and she smiles when she recognizes them. Allison begins walking toward them and they look around to figure out what they wanted to do. Allison then stopped when Christopher saw her and a huge smile appeared on his face.

"Ali!" Christopher laughs as he quickly goes to her. Allison walks to him and gently hugs him when they make it to one another. "Are you gonna hang out with us?"

Allison looks at Buck who looks at her with a puppy look making her giggle and she looks back at him. She giggles quietly again and looks at Christopher.

"I don't see why I can't." She tells him making him giggle.

They smile and begin going to the pier and going on rides. They were laughing on one ride and she giggles when she stays off one of the rides, she grabs her phone and begins taking pictures of them, keeping them for herself.

She was happy to have the rest of the day off, luckily she left her camera in her car a ways away from the pier. Allison then walked with them to get something to eat. They ate some burgers, and fries and got some smoothies and when they were talking they were having fun and laughing.

They then began walking again to find more rides after they digested their food. Allison was smiling as the two went on another ride together as they took more pictures; she would rather take pictures than be on rides. Either way, they were all having fun.

After walking a little more and going to sit on the bench, Buck was holding Christopher while he stood, and they were talking. Allison was looking through her phone and sent pictures to Eddie to show they were all having fun. Buck glances at Allison and then toward Christopher.

"Where did all the water go?"

Allison's eyes widen and she freezes as does Buck while they both look back and everyone was confused about where the water went. Allison and Buck slowly stand up and glance at one another and then back to the water. Allison's heart was pounding against her chest, no... not today... her ears begin ringing loudly in her head

Then a siren began going off knocking Allison out of her thoughts as the panic set in when she saw the Tsunami coming towards them.

"Run...!!" Allison shouted as Buck grabbed Christopher and they both began running. "Everyone run!! Get off the pier!!"

Buck made it to one of the stalls of the games and put Christopher behind there while he looks back seeing the wave coming.

"Buck!" Allison calls out worriedly as he turns and then helps Allison into the stall and then he jumps in as soon as the wave crashes against the pier. And the next thing Allison knew, her world went dark.

Allison opens her eyes slowly as the air was needing to go into her lungs, she then started struggling in the water trying to get up. The cold water was like needles digging into her skin and making her wounds sting like hell. Allison kicks her legs and swings her arms around to swim to the top. As she struggled to swim up, a pole that broke somewhere when the Tsunami hit, went and cut her leg making her groan a little bit from the pain while she continues swimming up.

When she finally made it, she lets out a huge gasp of air and looks around trying to find Buck and Christopher.

"Buck!" Allison yells loudly as she keeps looking around for them. "Christopher!" She then begins swimming to find some low ground and then she finds people standing on top of cars and one of them reached out to her.

"Ma'am!" Allison looks up to see them and tries her hardest to swim to them. "Come on, you got this!" Allison was gasping when she was swimming towards them, when she finally made it to them, she reached up grabbed their hand and they helped her up.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Have you seen a young boy with glasses and a man wearing a white shirt and red coat?"

They shake their heads and Allison's heart drops to her stomach, she then starts to panic and begins looking around again.

"Buck! Christopher!" Allison screamed worriedly trying to find them again. But then she fell and yelped in pain. She looked down and saw a small, but somewhat deep gash on her right leg. She then tries to find something to tie it off.

"Don't move around so much," a lady spoke gently as she grabs an old shirt that thankfully was not too wet and tied it to the wound. "We will help you look for this Buck and Christopher."

"Thank you so much" Allison responds and smiles her way as she lifts herself while the lady wraps an arm around her shoulder and they began walking. As they were walking, Allison keeps looking for them.

It worried her that she couldn't find them.

Where could they be? She wondered to herself. She hoped they will be okay.

The lady continues helping Allison trudge through the shallow water where they were. Another buzz came on the phone she had as she blinks reaching behind her and saw another Tsunami warning coming as she gasps.

"We need to get higher! Another wave is coming!!" Allison warns the people she was with. The people looked at her and then they see another wave coming towards them making them rush off, then they were all swept away making Allison groan in pain when she landed in the water again.

The same people swam while Allison struggled to swim to them when they try to get to the shallow part of the water once more. When they finally get to the shallow part of the water, the same woman helps Allison get out as she struggles to stand up when the water seeps into her wound again.

"Oh, this hurts..." She groans as they began walking again. She then looks up. "Buck!! Christopher!!"

Allison groans a little in pain as they continue walking through the water that was still about waist-deep. The receding water was going to happen soon, and they needed to get somewhere safe before it happened. It would be just as bad if not worse than the two waves that just happened.

"Buck..." Her voice sounded so hoarse because she had been yelling their names so loud. Allison couldn't give up though. "Christopher..."

Allison had tears building in her eyes as she couldn't find her love and her best friend's son. She couldn't lose them... no...

"Buck... Christopher..." Allison mutters as a tear begins falling down, then another one, and now more fall down.

"We need to move!" A person spoke as water began pushing them back. "The waters coming back!!"

The woman adjusts Allison on her shoulder while they continue trudging through the water as the water continues pushing them back almost making them slip.

Allison groans when someone helps her as they try to get to high ground, they pull everyone up to the highest part of the broken building. When they finally get everyone up on the broken building, they continue walking. The sun was starting to go down and the wind was getting chilly, Allison shivered a little bit from the wet clothes she was wearing. Allison was getting so worried about Buck and Christopher. She also was worried about the One Eighteen, wondering if they were okay.

Oh god... what was she going to tell Eddie about Christopher? A choked sob escaped her lips as a person look at her and then touches her back after Allison stops abruptly.

"What's wrong honey?" The older woman asked her as more tears fall down.

"What am I going to do?" asks the young girl quietly as her throat begins hurting. "I can't tell my best friend I lost his son... I can't even find my boyfriend and I don't know if both of them are even okay..."

"Don't worry, think positive thoughts." says the woman touching her shoulder. "I'm sure he's okay."

"I hope you're right..."

The woman smiles her way while they begin walking once again with the group. The tears didn't stop falling down Allison's face. She even wondered if her father was okay... Was he on a date with his girlfriend and they were caught in the Tsunami or were they safe from the Tsunami? She should probably call him at some point to let him know she was okay...

It was now nighttime, and they had made it to the medical center while Allison was sitting down and getting treated for her leg. It was deep enough for stitches, so, they fixed her up with what medical supplies they had and wrapped her leg up the best they could, and told her not to rip out her stitches.

Allison held no expression on her face. They had been done with her for a half hour while she stares ahead of her. She then stands up and begins walking a little bit, trying to get her mind off everything.

"Hey, excuse me." A familiar voice spoke as Allison pauses in her spot and then begins looking for him. "I'm looking for a kid. He's got brown hair. Chris--Christopher."

Allison pauses in her step and looks around again and then sees a familiar blond talking to a woman.

"How old?"

"Um, eight, maybe nine," Buck answers her, looking very solemn. "Christopher Diaz. He has CP..."

"Christopher Diaz. No, not here." The lady glanced through her list and then shakes her head gently, frowning deeply.

"What about Allison Morrow? She has brown hair and--is the most beautiful girl you ever lay eyes on,"

A blush crosses her cheeks as she continues limping his way. And of course, he doesn't notice her. Yet.

"Allison Morrow... nope, not here either. You may wanna check over there at the black tent."

"Isn't that the..."

"The morgue. Excuse me..." She then pats his shoulder gently and walks off.

Buck looks over and tears begin building in his eyes as he looks down at his hands. "Buck..." he heard a familiar voice speak and then he freezes. That wasn't her... that can't be her... Buck slowly turns around and then sees her standing there. "Buck..."

Buck then rushes to her and they both hug, and he lifts her while she cries into his shoulder trying to avoid the strangely familiar glasses he was wearing around his neck. "Allison! Oh my God, I thought I lost you..."

"Where's Christopher?" Allison asks him quietly. The paramedics said she would get her voice back within a couple of days to a week. Buck puts her down and grabs her face gently while looking deep into her eyes. "Buck...?"

"I... I lost him..." Allison stares at him while tears build in his eyes again. "I had him. I kept him safe. We were--uh...we were on top of the ladder truck, then the water receded..."

"It... it wasn't your fault..." Allison spoke to him reaching and touching his face gently.

"Don't you hear what I am saying, Ali?" Buck whispers to her as she looks at him while tears fall down her face. "Christopher is gone. I've checked the emergency refugee camps at the Promenade, at the high school--"

"Okay, okay..." She whispers and touches his hands bringing them down with her hands. "Let's keep checking around, okay?"

Buck nods but before they both could walk, Buck looks up sees Eddie, and drags Allison back with him to hide. Allison was confused.

"Oh god, he's here..." Buck muttered making her look over and her eyes widen. "Eddie's here..."

Allison takes a deep breath and turns to Buck. "Listen to me..." She clears her throat quietly. "We need to tell him."

"How?" Buck harshly whispers. "How can you tell our best friend that I lost his son?"

"We have to tell him..." She grabs his hand gently and begins walking toward their best friend slowly. "I'll do the talking."

"Buck? Allison? Wait, what are you two doing here? Are you okay?" Eddie looks at them up and down to see how injured they were but then shakes his head gently. "Wait, where's Christopher?"

"Hermano, we um..." Allison spoke quietly while Eddie looks at Buck again and sees Christopher's glasses around his neck.

"Why do you have his glasses?"

"We, um..." Buck stammered a little, swallowing thickly as he tries to gather his thoughts. "Me, Christopher, and Allison, we were... at the beach, and-- um... and listen to me, okay? I swear to you... okay, I tried..."

Allison was watching Eddie's face as it began dropping slowly. "And I just... but I... Eddie, I just don't know how to say it. He--he just--he..." Buck continues. "He just vanished..."

"Christopher..."

Allison freezes and then turns around as she gently taps Buck's arm as he turns around while Eddie rushes to Christopher and they both embrace tightly. Allison didn't hear anything else as her ears begin ringing. Taking a deep breath, Allison grabs Buck's hand gently as his breath stopped gently while tears fell down.

"Buck?" Allison whispers as Henrietta, Chimney and Bobby walking up to them. "Are you okay?"

"Are you two okay?"

Buck begins shuttering and nods, letting go of Allison's hand. "Yeah, we're fine..."

He then begins falling backwards while Henrietta and Chimney catch him and slowly set him down as Buck was holding onto Henrietta's arm tightly while Allison watches the scene unfold in front of her.

"Oh!"

"Wait, hold up!"

She was happy that everything was okay...

Allison, a few days later, was sitting on her island looking through her pictures on her laptop. Her hair was in a high messy bun with some strands framing her face while Buck slept in.

The whole city was trying to piece back together what happened to everyone affected by the Tsunami. After everything that happened, her dad has been calling her frequently to make sure she was okay.

And he got her a new puppy-- a two-year-old female German Shepard who was a sweetheart. She was very smart and loves hugs.

Buck yawns and hugs her from behind as she raises a hand to touch his arm gently and he kisses her head. The puppy was sleeping by the island quietly.

"How are you?"

"I'm okay, I couldn't sleep..."

"Nightmares again, Ali?"

Allison nods slowly as she closes her laptop as she stands up, her pajama pants hitting the floor while she pulls down her long sleeves as she hugs him around the waist. And then, a knock interrupted them as they glance at one another and Buck walks to the door and sees Christopher and Eddie waltzing in.

The puppy looks up and stands up following Allison as she walks behind Buck.

"Hey Buck, hey Ali"

"Good morning, Buck and Ali," Christopher hugs both Ali and Buck and walks in and goes to the couch.

"He--hey buddy." Buck says watching him sit on the couch while Allison follows him and sits down with the puppy following her and sits by Christopher's feet and he begins petting her.

"Okay. There's a morning snack and midday snack, two coloring books and a bunch of Legos." Eddie states with a smile and Allison was talking to Christopher while Buck follows Eddie into the island. "Between us, he's never built anything that kinda looks like anything. He just likes sticking things together." Buck just stares at him, wondering if he was an alien. "It's right there, buddy. There's 20 bucks for pizza, and if I were you, I'd eat a couple extra slices. You look like you're wasting away to nothing, you too, Hermana!" Allison waves him off while she talks to Christopher as he continues petting the puppy.

"Eddie--" Buck starts.

"I will say, honestly, you being laid up is working out for me. I mean, you're no abuela, and you're half of Carla, but you'll do in a pinch."

"You want us to watch Christopher?"

"It's easy!" Eddie told him touching his shoulder and pats it gently. "He's not very fast."

"After everything that happened?"

Allison excuses herself from Christopher quietly and stands up as she begins walking to him and leans against the island next to Buck. "Buck," Allison speaks quietly. "A natural disaster happened. It wasn't your fault."

"I lost him..."

"No, you saved him." Eddie corrected him and points at Christopher who continues petting the puppy. "That's how he remembers it. And now, it's his turn to do the same for you."

"I was supposed to look out for him."

"And what, you think you failed? I failed that kid more times than I care to count, and I'm his father. But I love him enough to never stop trying, and I know you do too. Buck...there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you. Okay, buddy." Eddie smiles his way and turns to Allison who was staring at Buck.

Eddie and Buck both sigh. "I gotta go," Eddie walks to Christopher and smooches his head and pets the puppy's head. "Love ya, have fun. Protect him Mocha," the puppy, Mocha, pants while laying down by Christopher's legs and lays her head down falling asleep. "Maybe try going to the zoo this time, something inland." Eddie chuckles softly as he walks to the door and opens it looking back at Buck who looks at him. "Oh, um... thank you for not giving up."

Allison touches his hand and Buck looks at her while she smiles at him as she walks to Christopher and plops down next to him.

Buck follows her and sits down next to her, and they all began discussing what to do with their day. They were happy.
