27. What Am I?

Sometimes not knowing much is the best because not all the time what we know benefits us in a way.

Like for now Taehyung who is just as fine as he could be because certainly he doesn't know what was going on at the other end of the stream.

But could Jungkook do anything other than that? He probably couldn't.

Why? Well, he had his own reasons and one being his complications. He couldn't find a way out of the dark tunnel he got lost in since Taehyung decided to suddenly not be a part of his life.

He still wonders why, tossing his phone aside as he laid on the couch of his apartment, thinking of the events of the day that were certainly driving him crazy.

He should lose hope at this point but why was he still staring at his phone and waiting for a call?

"Oh why are you doing this to me…" The poor guy whispered to himself as he stared blankly at his screen, his contact shown.

He debated before calling him but he was at the verge of losing hope because after literally asking him face to face he was slapped on with pure silence, what else could he wish for?

He put his phone on his chest, staring up at the ceiling, thinking of the possibilities of him hurting him.

He had been relentlessly doing this but was still clueless.

They were just perfect together, weren't they?

Jungkook finally felt like the missing spark of his life was finally lightened up by the other, they would spend time together, go on ice cream dates and Jungkook would treat him with his favorite mint choco which he later learnt that the other one absolutely hated but there he was still having it for him.

This had a smile spreading on Jungkook's face, how couldn't he notice his hesitation of taking the cone everytime. Maybe Jungkook just didn't pay much attention to it before that time.

His smile dropped just as fast, taking a deep breath as he kept recalling each and every moment spent with him.

The exhibition, the football game, all those days of them in the art class, them then decorating the venue together being just as silly, everything was perfect till then until-

Until the girls asked if they were dating.

Jungkook sat up all of a sudden.

His frown tensed as he stared into space, sparing his attention back to that time. The last time they were together this fine and all he could see was a slightly hyperactive Taehyung, out of what he didn't know.

Jungkook wandered his eyes into the empty space, his mind was going in every depth he knew he shouldn't take it to.

His frown soon disappeared to a tender look, it seemed something more than he actually knew and all the poor boy could do was carry his phone again, gulping his hesitation down to finally bring himself to type a text.

"Hey Tae! Can we please talk?"

And he has never been this eager before.

~♡~

The blonde was with his bestie at his place, both in his room as they talked about things with ice cream cups in each hand until Taehyung got distracted by the buzzing of his phone, a text just came by.

Taehyung peeked to the other side of the bed, his bestie sitting just right in front of him on the chair of his study table. Just as he opened to check who texted he suddenly paused.

"Who's it?" Jimin asked curiously, filling his mouth with a scoop full of ice cream.

"Jungkook." And Taehyung whispered with a monotonous tone.

The taller blonde decided to carry his phone and check the notification clearly.

"What does it say?"

"Can we please talk?

Jimin put his cup aside, taking the phone from his friend.

"Aren't you still going to respond?" He asked as he checked the text himself.

"I don't know what to say if he asks me why am I doing this. If I'll be honest, I don't know why am I even doing this. This is just-" Taehyung put his cup down and held his head in his hands as he looked down, Jimin deciding to sit next to him.

"Hey… that's okay. But I just feel a little bad for him. Both of you are my friends and I shouldn't be taking any sides, but just, I want you two to not lose what you had." Jimin whispered genuinely and Taehyung kept looking down.

"Will I even lose what I never had?"

"Hey… you had him for sure. You were best buddies, weren't you?"

"But my feelings ruined it for us, Jimin, I can't even bring myself to say sorry to him because it's hard to explain."

Jimin sighed, shifting closer to his friend.

"I can understand you, Tae, it is a bit complicated. Maybe just don't force yourself when you're not ready, take your time. It'll be alright." Jimin didn't have anything better to say.

He had been crying a lot and that's why Jimin decided to come to his place, bring him ice cream and what else not to make him feel better.

And that's what friends are supposed to do, aren't they? Because when Jimin was stranded it was Taehyung who came to rescue, helped him get up and regain his confidence. It's always been them saving each other from the worst.

So this time Jimin needed to make sure Taehyung is feeling better and less lonelier everytime.

"I know you must be hungry, all these drinks and ice cream won't do your belly justice so how about I make quick ramen for you?" Jimin suggested, trying to cheer up his friend.

"It's okay, Jimin, I'm fine."

"Oh but I'm hungry too."

"Ah okay, you know where they are."

"Sure I know, it's my home too." Saying this, Jimin tapped his friend's head before getting up.

"Less spicy for me." Taehyung said from behind and Jimin turned sassily to give him a wink.

With this the little blonde began to hum a song, making his way to the kitchen and taking an empty pot to put over the stove.

What he didn't know was that someone else was home all this while, lost in his own darkness who after hearing Jimin's voice coming from the kitchen decided to get up from his bed to peek through the creek of his door.

Jimin seemed to be fine, humming a song cutely as he gathered ingredients together, also boiling eggs along to garnish the end result.

Opening the refrigerator he searched for some spring onions to chop and then he realized he forgot to take out the ramen packets.

He put everything down to turn back, opening the top drawer of the kitchen, finding how ramen packets were up in the rack of that drawer but a little behind.

He decided to extend his hand to the fullest, trying to reach out to it but he simply couldn't. His mind worked on little hops to help him get there better but the struggle was real, he simply couldn't get there.

The poor him sighed as he put his hand on his hips while looking away.

What he didn't know was that someone was watching him all this while and soon he decided to extend his hand out, jumping with all his force but failed again.

But to his surprise a shadow appeared in front of him, presence of someone behind him so evident that he could almost take it as Taehyung but that familiar fragrance of the elder twin didn't go unnoticed.

Soon his back was clasped with V's front, the long arm of the other extending above and large hands of him fiddling between the packs to search for Jimin's favorite carbonara flavor.

All this while Jimin was suddenly frozen, feeling the other one's warm breath fanning against his neck and nape.

And soon those large hands came down with two packs held effortlessly, stopping in front of Jimin's face who was suddenly not in a good mood.

He decided to turn around, just as pissed as he seemed when he faced the elder twin who looked down at him with his emotionless face, little stubble appearing on top of his lips and chin with messy dark hair all over his face.

"What the hell are you doing?" Jimin asked just as quickly, not even caring about taking the packs from his hands who kept them in his hands in front of Jimin.

"I was helping you." The elder replied blankly.

"I didn't ask for your help." Jimin retorted, snatching the packs from his hands.

"But you were struggling?"

"Not your fucking probelm, and why are you always getting ready to involve in my matters, I never ask you to." Jimin snapped, so done with his attitude of being a good guy when he always has ways to ruin his fucking day or maybe entire week by having literally no filter on his mouth.

Dowoo simply stepped closer, slightly panicking Jimin who had no more space to get behind as the counter blocked his way.

"I will always be involved with your matters and you can't change that." The elder whispered as if he attempted to warn in a way but Jimin only looked way more frustrated.

Who does he think he is? Jimin simply can't get him. With that shell of a strong man he simply doesn't get what he wants to prove all the time.

If he wants he chooses to be in his business, if he wants he chooses to never be involved in his business. As if Jimin didn't have a choice of his own, it's always the other, coming in and walking away whenever he wanted to and when Jimin sees wrong in it, he apparently is a clown.

They continued staring like that, the eyes that speak louder than their mouths, for then Jimin's were digging holes into him.

He seemed like he was disgusted by his presence which the other one could feel.

"Get out of my face before I spit on you." Soon Jimin warned, trying to show as much anger as he had outpouring in him.

While Dowoo only frowned, looking down at him with clenched jaws.

"Why the hell do you always talk to me like that?" V asked with his low blank voice, wandering his eyes onto Jimin's face.

His voice seemed to hold a bit of angst like his gaze, which was desperately grasping every detail of the other, beautiful adorable face with the blonde hair definitely suiting him, something V was irritated with since so long.

"Like what?" Jimin then asked, acting to be oblivious to piss the other one off.

"Like that… unreasonable."

"Unreasonable?" Jimin scoffed bitterly.

"Hello, is this Mr. Kim Dowoo speaking of being reasonable?" Jimin snapped his fingers in front of V twice to mock his choice of words.

Meanwhile V only looked unfazed.

"Don't you ever forget it's always you who starts this Dowoo, it's always you, unreasonable." Jimin whispered dangerously, trying to knock some senses into his thick skull.

"When was the last time I started? It's always me saying something to Taehyung and you jump right into the conversation being his lawyer, that's when it always starts." Finally V said more than a sentence which kinda fazed Jimin a lot who raised his eyebrows in an impressed manner with a mocking smile.

"Call me his lawyer if you like but the shits you say to him are not reasonable and hell yeah I'll always talk in his defense. You got a problem?" Jimin raised himself a little, asking him in a challenging manner while the other just gave him the corpse-like face all the damn time.

"He's my brother, I can say whatever I want to and you know the way we are so you don't always have to defend him."

"Oh don't you worry, I always will, he's my fucking best friend." Jimin said confidently, trying to piss the other one as much as he could.

Until there was a pause between the two, the same eyes staring at each other in pure silence for a while until V took a shaky breath, the emotionless gaze turning a bit tender.

"Then what am I?"

Jimin got quiet, relaxing his shoulders when he heard that tone of his voice. That unfamiliar tone he gets rare chances of hearing. Something about that tone is always heavy against his chest.

"Just your best friend's brother?" V asked again to confirm looking down at Jimin with his lopsided eyes who suddenly wasn't as firm as before, grabbing the packs of ramen against his chest for his dear life.

But soon the elder twin broke that gaze, he knew he appeared vulnerable so he had to look away to smile in an ironic way.

And followed by a bitter chuckle V stepped back to turn around and leave, not turning once as he entered his bedroom and shut it just as quick, leaving Jimin to hold the counter in his back and grab those packs tighter against his chest with the sparing hand as he leaned back more into the counter for support, releasing his tension with that long breath.

But nothing seemed to cool his heart down.

Nothing.

He wandered his eyes down on the floor, processing everything that he said, feeling bad for him. Yet at the same time wanting to knock on his door until he opens and so he can plant a tight slap on his face and ask him who was the reason that Jimin chose to be this way? Who the hell even started this to even play the victim role. Who? Of course it's him.

Jimin tried to inhale sharply and stabilize himself, fixing his posture and his hair as he decided to finish his task as the water furiously boiled on the stove and he didn't even add noodles to it.

Well it is what it is, only the stern things get mellow once they meet the hotness. Like those noodles suddenly losing their strength to the hot boiling water, Jimin's anger had an impact on the unfazed dark haired one.

But water shouldn't be bothered by what gets into it, so why was Jimin this much bothered?

~

Well at the other side V shut the door to be engulfed by his constant dark room, he doesn't even bother lightening it up often but out of that darkness one thing always stands out and it's Jimin's cardigan of bright color lying on his nightstand.

That smell didn't seem to fade away after all these days and it will always get stuck into his mind, bothering every sense of him but he couldn't even get that away from his sight and reach.

He hates that thing. He hates that he loves the smell of it.

And definitely standing in Jimin's proximity messed with his mind even more, his senses awakened by the familiar fruity cherry fragrance coming from him with a hint of vanilla, something sweet and delicious like those round and mellow cheeks of his.

He seemed too cute to be ruined but that urge to just mess with him, his little frame and always get a way to take those hands to meet those cheeks would scratch something so harshly into him.

But what hurts for now is the way Jimin just refused to call him someone.

V doesn't even know whom to blame other than him. It fucking hurts like hell but isn't it the same he has been relentlessly doing with the other since ages it's been.

He hates to be in a loop he created for himself and he doesn't even know how to get out of it because the only way out was Jimin's hand reaching out to him but now it seems like Jimin will be the one to push him back into the same loop if he forgets where he belongs.

And this only does one thing to his mind.

Craving Jimin more than anything, until he admits and calls him 'mine'.

~♡~

Well for Jungkook he was still stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Taehyung didn't respond to him all night and probably he was slightly upset that next time if he sees Taehyung in person he might not hold himself back unless he knows what's the issue.

The ignorance has been way too beyond that Jungkook started reasoning out obnoxious things and those things might even be true.

And so he woke up determined the next day, ready to meet the other one before starting his day.

Just as always he got ready to leave for University but unlike other days he decided to just stand and wait by the fountain just after entering the campus of the University, knowing damn well if Taehyung walks in he would have chances to get to him.

Because that's been enough and someone has to end it.

Just one more day left for the fresher's party and Jungkook was not even in a mood to celebrate, that frown on his morning face could tell when he put his eyes afar on the entrance, determined to catch his sight.

He kept standing there for a while, many of his classmates coming by, some waving at him and some even approaching for a high five and him being the nicest guy did it all despite his heart being laced away at the entrance.

He decided to take his phone and check the time to make sure he wasn't way too early, he slightly was but not too much.

And soon the time for the classes to start was near and he sighed, finally lifting his head up to spot his best friend coming towards him with a black hoodie, the hood of which covered half of his face and those dark hair  his eyes.

He decided to stand in front of Jungkook.

"Waiting for me?"

"Where's your brother?" Jungkook asked on cue, face carrying a frown.

V simply frowned too, well that's not what he expected to hear from him as the first thing in the morning.

"Might be here in a while, why?"

"Need to talk."

"What for?" V asked curiously and Jungkook just looked far away.

And soon he could see Taehyung walking into the campus with Jimin, both busy talking to each other to even notice Jungkook's presence just a little away right there.

Jungkook contracted his muscles to maintain a stern posture as soon as he caught the sight of another one, deciding to step towards him.

And soon Taehyung was forced to stop after finding someone in his way.

"Taehyung." And as Taehyung heard Jungkook he faced him and could see that he seemed not so okay.

More like he was pissed which kinda panicked Taehyung who was not expecting to see him all of sudden, surprising him to the core.

Even Jimin was shocked, trying to activate his defensive mode for his bestie.

"Oh hi Jungkook!" Jimin decided to greet but Jungkook didn't budge, kept staring at Taehyung who's gaze softened, poor guy always out of energy to even do or say something.

And Jungkook too had a lot going on in his head, a lot of it, he wanted to fight him so badly at this point. What's the point of being this silly he doesn't understand and he desperately wanted to know what he did wrong to deserve this.

"Tell me already if you're deciding to walk away without giving me an answer, I might have to hold your hand then." Jungkook started, trying to warn him but he didn't even need to try to shake the land beneath Taehyung's feet who was already taking deep breaths, hands shaky.

"Jungkook… he's not feeling well today, would you please-" Jimin decided to speak up.

"Just a moment Jimin, please, just a minute." Jungkook said without even looking at Jimin who stopped himself.

"Please leave us alone for a moment." He added and Jimin looked at his friend and him back and forth, Taehyung not able to maintain the eye contact and looking down instantly, searching for Jimin's hand to not let him go which Jungkook caught.

And then there was V, looking at them all there like a fool. He clearly doesn't know what's going on nor does he care to know because for him, his own shitty mind was more than enough.

He just crossed his arms and turned around to look at the waterfall.

Jungkook seemed pretty upset when he looked down and back at Taehyung who was not even looking at him.

"We were fine… what happened all of a sudden?" He then proceeded to ask.

"Are you mad I kept bringing you mint choco?" Jungkook asked to hear which Jimin seemed pretty confused.

"What?"

"Or maybe because I hurt you in a way or something. Neither answering my calls nor even seeing my texts." Jungkook kept saying and Taehyung grabbed his friend's hand tighter, feeling his knees jiggling slightly.

"Oh come on, Jimin, why don't you say something to him?" Jungkook then faced Jimin who was just as awkward as anyone between them.

"Ah maybe you should talk to him at lunch time, we're getting late for class anyway…" Jimin tried to finish it off and Jungkook ran his hand through his hair out of frustration.

"So that he runs away again? Jimin, you were supposed to help me."

"I get you Jungkook… I know but-"

"Jungkook! Hey!!!" Soon a girl walked between them, Taehyung and Jimin stepping back instinctively as she broke into them, jumping on Jungkook to hug who was taken aback.

"Rebecca?" He couldn't even proceed with what happened but she was already all over him, soon breaking the hug but not detaching her arms around his neck.

"Oh I'm so excited for tomorrow, me and Stacy did a lot of shopping last night and I can't wait for you to pick me up for the party. Call me when you're free, I'm thinking of us matching the colors of our clothes so tell me later what you're wearing." The excited girl kept saying and Jungkook was just so fucking awkward, looking at her and the two back and forth.

Jimin didn't seem to appreciate her presence at all, neither did the other girl clinging on V's back near the fountain, the two in their own bubbles.

Jimin activated his mad sassy bitch look, judging the two girls back and forth.

Jungkook tried to look at Taehyung who was looking at that girl and Jungkook with what seemed like enviousness in his eyes which Jungkook for sure noticed and there was a moment of him locking his eyes with Jungkook, the gaze full of agony that Jungkook couldn't wrap his head around.

"Fucking humid in here, should be going to our classes, Taehyung, come with me." Jimin said sassily, fanning his face from his hand as he rolled his eyes and then held Taehyung's arm to drag him away while Jungkook was helpless.

"What's wrong with these guys?" Rebecca asked Jungkook a while later who kept looking at the two leaving.

He was doubtful now he kinda knows what's wrong.

~♡~

Proceeding to the campus Taehyung was continuously looking down, Jimin catching sight of him from time to time to make sure he was alright but then again Taehyung would maintain that blank face that it would be hard to predict.

"Taehyung, are you alright?" Jimin asked and Taehyung just ignored, and kept walking with him with their hands tied.

"Tae…" Jimin whispered and stopped in his tracks, resisting Taehyung from walking away as they were walking towards their department.

"Hey… don't be like that." Jimin whined softly and Taehyung finally faced him.

"Guess I won't blame myself for not talking to him anymore." Taehyung whispered and proceeded to give a hurt smile and Jimin stepped in to cup his face.

"Hey, don't be like that." He tried to lift his mood but Taehyung tried to smile even though it was difficult to do so.

"You should be happy that I'm not feeling bad about it, he better just stay away now."

"Ah… I don't know what to say." Jimin brought his hand back and Taehyung forced a smile.

"Leave it. At least he'll have fun."

"Oh shut up."

"Hey, Taehyung!" Soon they turned their head to a familiar sound, belonging to none other than his senior Wooshik, waving at Taehyung happily after spotting him and Jimin narrowed his eyes.

"Is that the Wooshik guy?" He whispered to Taehyung who only hummed, still maintaining a fake smile as he waved back at the other.

"Wow, what a morning that I spotted you here." The guy said enthusiastically as he approached Taehyung.

"Me too." The younger whispered with a smile and soon his senior extended his hand to shake with Taehyung's who held it just right then.

"Umm, is he your friend?" The senior asked and Taehyung nodded, letting go of his hand which he showed to Jimin.

"This is Jimin, Park Jimin, Taehyung's childhood bestie and only soulmate." Jimin introduced himself enthusiastically, also humbly shaking his hand and the guy showed his adorable smile to him as well.

"Okay, I'll make sure. Haha." Wooshik laughed, trying not to seem a threat to Jimin.

"Oh no threats from me." Jimin winked sassily and Wooshik just smiled shyly.

"Anyway, good to see you, I'll be walking to my class, so we should meet later on… yeah?" The senior asked and tapped Taehyung's arm who was currently in his head.

Wooshik then gave a smile to Jimin who smiled just as big and then proceeded to walk away until Taehyung spoke up.

"Wooshik sunbaenim." Taehyung called and the guy stopped, facing him again.

"Yes?"

"What are you doing tomorrow?" Taehyung asked and Jimin faced his friend, eyes widened at his boldness.

"Ah, nothing much, why?"

"Would you like to be my Fresher's partner?" Soon Taehyung blurted out as if he was dying to say this and the elder just raised his eyebrows at the sudden shock, followed by a chuckle.

"R-really?" Wooshik stuttered, scratching his neck at the boldness of the other.

"Yeah… if you want to." Taehyung whispered, fiddling with his fingers and Wooshik just lost all the words in his mouth.

"Oh come on, say yes. My boy doesn't go around asking anyone." Soon Jimin added and Wooshik smiled timidly.

"Oh no, it's not like that... I'm a bit surprised since no one ever asked me something like this. So I can't dare deny it. I'll surely go with you." Wooshik then agreed and Jimin smiled so big, excitedly giving him a high five.

"Good then, tomorrow in the evening. Will you be able to pick him up?" Jimin asked and the guy seemed confused.

"Ah… I don't… I don't know where he lives nor do I have any contact number." Wooshik spoke hesitantly and Jimin quickly pulled out Taehyung's phone from his pockets, handing it to wooshik.

"Then dial it, whose denying."

Wooshik smiled and took it, saving his number in his phone and ringing a call to get the number in his phone too and then he handed the phone back to Taehyung who shyly accepted it.

"Thanks for inviting me." Soon the elder said and Taehyung gave a nod, too shy to even look at him.

"Okay then, I'll see you later."

"Sure he'll see you later, have a nice day." Saying this Jimin started waving at him and Wooshik decided to walk away after waving at them too and Taehyung released the held breath.

Fuck, he doesn't know how he did it.

"Yay! My bitch, I'm fucking proud of you!" Soon Jimin hugged his bestie who was still not believing what happened.

He hugged Jimin back who seemed really happy but Taehyung couldn't understand why he couldn't be that happy. It all just fucking hurts.

Even more after knowing he lost the last chance with Jungkook.

But he couldn't care less. He didn't want to be the only one crying for nothing.
