Both (Y/N) and Hiccup make it back to their home, or "the blacksmith that felt like a second home" to be more precise. They made small talk along the way, both giggling and laughing without a care in the world.
They made it to the front door, about to open it but a voice cuts them off. "(Y/N)?" Both teens turn around, their eyes going wide at the sight of Commander (L/N), standing there with a tight lipped smile.
"Dad!" (Y/N) calls, rushing down the steps and tackling her father in a tight hug. (F/N) laughs lightly, wrapping his daughter in a tight embrace before glancing up and locking eyes with a nervous looking Hiccup.
"You kept her safe?" The Commander asks, an arm wrapped around his daughter's shoulders. Hiccup nods frantically, receiving a laugh from the intimidating man. "Good.." (F/N) sighs, looking down at (Y/N) and giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze.
"Best be going then eh?" He asks lightly, both teens nodding softly before locking eyes, (Y/N) giving Hiccup a warm smile before both
(L/N)'s turn and leave. The boy watches sadly as they depart, hopping to have one more night with the (H/C) girl.
He sighs, shaking his head before turning and entering the blacksmith.
...
(Y/N) and her father walk in a peaceful silence, both of them basking in eachothers comfort, (Y/N) glad to have her father back and (F/N) relieved to be home with his daughter.
"You know.." he starts, his daughter snapping to attention and looking to him. "I invited you're friend over for dinner..to celebrate.."
(Y/N) hums in confusion, "Mind if I ask which friend it is?" She asks, her fingers crossed tightly, hoping her father didn't bring up the one person she had been avoiding the whole day.
"Astrid.."
(F/N) watches as his daughter cringes at the name, sighing and patting her head. "Everyone knows how that lass feels for you." (Y/N) rolls her eyes at the statement. "But!" He interjects, "It'd be good to..talk about things?"
The Commander reels back at his choice of words, watching his daughter chuckle at his poor attempt at cheering her up.
"Don't worry about it." (Y/N) mumbles, patting her fathers arm. They make it to their house, which sat a few ways off from a small cliff, several birds sitting on the roof.
Both (Y/N) and her father spot a certain blonde haired couple sitting by their dining table, the (E/C) girl sucking a breath in at the sight of a certain teenage Viking.
"Let's do this.."
...
They both make it inside their house, all attention now on them. Both Hofferson's turn to them, their eyes lighting up at the sight of the (H/C) girl. "We heard about you and Hiccup!" Astrid's mom praised, bringing the girl into a hug.
Astrid and her father stood a few feet away, the girl watching with a small smile as her father watched with a proud grin. "You have to tell us about that Deadly Nadder!" She continues,
(Y/N) squirming in her grip. "I mean you took it down just by touching it?! Amazing!"
(F/N) laughs nervously, grabbing the blonde women by her shoulders and gently tugging her away. "Why don't we give the girls some..privacy." He watches as almost everyone grimaces at his response, rolling his eyes and pulling both Hofferson's out of the room. "Hey I'm trying!"
Once they all left, it was now only (Y/N) and Astrid, both girls fidgeting and looking away from eachother. "Let's talk.." Astrid starts,
(Y/N) quickly looking to her and nodding. They both make their way towards the table and sit opposite eachother, their hands pulled to their laps.
They sit their for a few minutes, neither of them saying anything. The tension in the air made both of them cringe before finally speaking.
"I'm sorry!"
Both (Y/N) Astrid look to eachother in shock before small smiles take over. They feel themselves starting to relax, their shoulders loosening and their minds slowing.
"Astrid, I'm sorry that things turned out this way.." (Y/N) starts, "I didn't know..about..you." The Hofferson girl laughs, bringing her hand up and covering her smile.
"Good choice of words!" Both girls laugh, their parents in the next room hearing this and smiling. "But I should be the one apologizing." She begins, her hands flat on the table.
"I shouldn't have taken my frustration out on you..or on Hiccup.." she mumbles the last part, (Y/N) nodding with a smile.
"Can we just..start over?"
Astrid nods frantically, reaching over and holding (Y/N)'s hands in hers. "I'd love that!" They both smile, staring at eachother with fondness. They get up, about to call their parents, but before (Y/N) could take a step, she's engulfed in a tight hug.
Astrid holds onto her, her eyes squeezed shut and breath hitching.
"I've always loved you..(Y/N).." the girl admits, (Y/N)'s eyes growing wide with shock. Sure she knew that Astrid had..feelings for her, but love? Now that's a strong word. She brings her arms around the blonde girl, gripping the back of her shirt and burying her head into Astrid's neck.
Tears pool in both girl's eyes, water streaming down their cheeks like never ending rivers.
(Y/N) chocked back a sob, clutching onto the one person besides Hiccup that she held so dear to her heart.
The one person that made her feel like she was more than enough..
The one person that let her see that she was more than some clumsy girl.
..the one person who she could never love.
All because her heart belonged to a short, scrawny boy with crooked teeth and freckles adorning his face.
...
Hiccup groans gently, bringing a hand up to his temple and rubbing softly. He looks down at his desk with a smile, a drawing of a specific (H/C) girl sitting atop a cliff with a (F/C) dragon behind her, both looking onwards into a the great beyond.
He sighs heavily, groaning in disappointment before slamming his head on the desk. He takes his pencil, and starts fiddling with it, flicking it up and copying this as it rolls back at him.
Hiccup sighs softly, moving the pencil back in place as he flicks it a few more times before it moves away from his reach. He sits up, his eyes catching movement before he leaps up with a gasp.
"Dad! You're back!" Hiccup quickly starts moving his drawings of Toothless and (D/N) under his book, clearing his throat. "Gobber's not here, so.."
"I know," Stoick replies, grunting as he squeezes through the tiny door frame. "I came looking for you."
"Y-you did?" Hiccup stammers, continuing to move his drawings. "You and (Y/N) have been keeping secrets." Stoick says in a low voice. Hiccup felt his heart drop as he swallows,
"w-we, uh, we, we ha-ave?"
"Just how long did you think you two could hide it from me?"
"W-we... I-I don't know... What you're-.
"Nothing happens on this island without me hearing about it."
"O-oh.." the boy mumbles, his gaze shifting from his father to the floor every few seconds. "So..." Stoick starts, narrowing his eyes. "Let's talk..about those dragons." Hiccup's hand slips off his book, his heart hammering as it falls to the ground.
"Oh, gods, dad I'm so sorry," Hiccup pushes his hair back, looking at his drawings. "I-I was going to tell you. I just..didn't know how to..." He pushes around his drawings, a drawing of (Y/N) catching Stoick's eye.
He begins to chuckle, which turns into a hearty laugh. Hiccup nervously laughs along, looking at his dad in confusion. "Y-you... You're not... Upset?"
"What?!" Stoick questions, some laughter escaping him. "I was hoping for this!"
"Ah... You..were?" Hiccup's brows furrow in confusion. "You and (Y/N)! And believe me, it only gets better! Just wait till you spill a Nadder's guts for the first time! And mount your first Gronkle! What a feeling!"
He shoves Hiccup, making him yelp and fall back into a basket. "You really had me going there, son! All those years of being the worst Viking Berk has ever seen."
Stoick takes in a deep breath of relief, "Odin, it was rough! I almost gave up on you! But the lass never did! She knew you were holding out on me!" He laughs, sighing once more.
"Oh, Thor Almighty!" He takes a seat as Hiccup wiggles out of the basket, smiling and exhaling.
"With you doing so well in the ring..and with (Y/N)..we definitely have something to talk about." Stoick scoots forward with an eager grin, "So..how are things?"
Hiccup becomes silent, his cheeks slightly flushed as he nervously looks around as Stoick continues waiting for a response. He opens his mouth to say something before shutting it again, sighing quietly. Stoick eagerly scoots forward, his smile faltering slightly as he clears his throat.
The Chief clears his throat, scooting back as he sees that he wasn't getting anywhere. "Oh, here..I, um..I brought you something," he takes out a Viking helmet, adjusting the horn.
"To keep you safe..in the ring." Hiccup takes it with a small smile, "Wow, thanks!"
"Your mother would have wanted you to have it," Stoick replies as Hiccup inspects the helmet with his hand. "It's half of her breastplate." he quickly removes his hand, looking up at Stoick with a nervous laugh.
"Matching set," his father taps his helmet with a sad smile. "Keeps her..it keeps her close, you know." Hiccup stares at the helmet with wide eyes as Stoick continues. "Wear it proudly. You deserve it. You and the lass have held up your ends of the deal."
Hiccup slowly sets the helmet down with a guilty expression, awkwardly looking around before dramatically yawning.
"Oh, I should..really..get to bed..Um-!" The Chief nods quickly, backing away. "Yes! Good. Okay, good talk," Stoick stammers, rising and nodding. "I-I'll see you back at the house, we should do this again.."
"Great," Hiccup clears his throat. "Thanks for stopping by. And for the.." he gestures to the helmet, his father nodding slowly. "I hope you like the.."
"..breast hat."
"The hat." Stoick bumps his head on a beam, making him quickly adjust his helmet. "Well..yep, good night." He squeezes out of the small room, leaving Hiccup alone. The boy sighs heavily, shaking his head with a frown as he sets his hands on his waist.
...
Meanwhile Stoick wore a proud grin, thinking he finally made some progress with his son. He nods, setting his hands on his hips and walking forward.
He takes a few steps, jumping as he runs into a hanging metal and gear. He backs up, lunging for more weapons as they fall before adjusting his helmet, rushing away.
..well, some progress was made that day..sadly none for Hiccup and his father.
