𝖛𝖎𝖎𝖎. A Flair For The Dramatics
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓:
A flair for the dramatics
(S2:E9 — Katerina)
"OKAY, YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND I ONLY KNOW WHAT I'VE PICKED UP OVER THE YEARS. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S TRUE AND WHAT'S NOT TRUE. THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THIS VAMPIRE CRAP. BUT KLAUS, I KNOW IS REAL." Rose paces in front of them. Genesis is seated on the couch inches away from Elena, and her expression is unreadable. Rose's body language indicated nervousness and anxiousness about the topic they were having.
Rose-Marie knows too much. And she's a risk to her and Niklaus's plan. Surprisingly, Rose doesn't know her, but Genesis did manage to keep a low profile and kept many identities over the centuries she's been alive. Rose might know Genesis through her other identities, but Rose doesn't know what Genesis exactly looked like.
"Who is he?" Elena asks with crossed arms to her chest.
"One of the originals. He's a legend." Damon informs Elena. Not so much of a legend since she had just texted him earlier about wanting to meet Elijah for coffee outside of Mystic Falls.
"He's from the first generation of vampires." Stefan continues. Elena nodded as a thought came to her mind, "Like Elijah."
"No." Rose sighs heavily, rolling her eyes. "Elijah was the Easter Bunny compared to Klaus. He was a foot soldier. Klaus is the real deal. Klaus is known to be the oldest."
What a biased statement.
From what Niklaus told her. Elijah is more unpredictable than him, he may not like unnecessary cruelty, but if needed, he will oblige. The ones who wronged him don't know if he will give them mercy or death, which makes him more terrifying than Niklaus.
Niklaus said it himself that his brother, Elijah. He may not get angry often, but when he is angry, hide.
"Okay, so." Elena holds up her fingers, halting the conversation, "You're saying that the oldest vampire in the history of time is coming after me?"
"Yes." Genesis and Rose agree in unison.
"No." Stefan scoldingly looks at Genesis as she shrugs her shoulders. It is the truth.
"What they're saying is—I mean, if what she's saying is true..." Damon says, standing up from his seat and standing beside Rose.
"Which it is." Rose inputs. Damon glares at her.
"And you're not just saying it, so we don't kill you..."
"Which I'm not."
"Then we're looking at a solid, maybe." Damon tries to calm Elena, noticing the stress on the girl's face.
"Look, Elijah's dead, right?"
Nope. Very much alive. I had just bought him thirty suits. And he looked good in each one. Genesis thought to herself as she looked away, hiding the grin forming on her lips as Elijah in a suit flashed in her mind.
"So no one else even knows that you exist." Stefan moves, sitting on the empty space on the couch between Elena and Genesis.
Niklaus knows she exists, like four years ago.
"Not that you know of." Rose tells Elena, and Stefan glares at the woman, and Damon looks at Rose as he shakes his head lightly, "That's not helping."
"Look, I've never even met anyone who's laid eyes on him. I mean, we're talking centuries of truth mixed with fiction. I mean, we don't know what's real. For all we know, he could just be some sort of stupid bedtime story." Stefan comforts his girlfriend, and Genesis decides to speak up.
"Klaus is real," Genesis tells them. It was the first time she ever said his nickname, but she couldn't use Niklaus. It feels foreign now that she has said it. And she'll continue to use it until Niklaus is the topic of their conversation.
Damon looks at her with furrowed burrows, his eyes indicating to her to continue. "I met him in a bar in Mississippi in 1985. Made him try a cosmopolitan, that's all." Genesis shrugs. It is true that she first met Niklaus in a bar in 1985.
"I was in Mississippi in 1985," Rose mutters wide-eyed. Genesis at Rose with furrowed brows as if she recalls something.
"Yes, he did mention that he was looking for someone. He just didn't mention who."
Then she saw Rose visibly shudder. No, Niklaus was not looking for Rose and Trevor in 1985. Niklaus said to taunt them, and Genesis was just happy to oblige.
"If you're not afraid of Klaus, then you're an idiot." Rose finally says, her eyes filled with fear with what Genesis told them.
"All right, we're shaking. You've made your point." Damon cuts Rose off. Genesis looks at her small stainless steel and diamond Panthere wristwatch. It's already 8 in the morning, and she doesn't really fancy being stuck in the Salvatore house with Stefan, Damon, and Rose with their impending questions about what Niklaus Mikaelson looks like.
Genesis stands up from her seat as Damon asks. "Where are you going?" Stefan follows her movements with his eyes.
"There's furniture arriving in my house. I better get to it." Genesis answers as she walks towards the front door. "Mind inviting me in?" Damon asks, lazily following behind her. Genesis turns around, crossing her arms with a raised brow.
"No." Genesis deadpanned says.
Damon looks at her faking offense. "What? Why?"
"Because once I invite vampires into my home. They'll think they have the right to come any time, even at 1 am in the morning. I want my privacy and peace, unlike in this household." Genesis points out as Damon gives her an agreeing nod, his face contemplative.
"Text me if anything happens." Genesis walks out of the house, closing the door shut. Once she reached her car and was out of earshot.
Genesis calls Niklaus. With him answering, "Dearest Genesis. Calling so early in the morning." Niklaus grumbles out, and Genesis dismisses him. "Rose is ratting you out to the Salvatores."
"Kill her then."
"I quite like Rose. She doesn't know which side she's on. And we need allies. Either she uses the information about you against us or with us." Genesis points out as she arrives at her house, parking her car in the garage.
"And what do you plan on doing?" Niklaus asks, interested in what Genesis is getting at.
"Rose is old enough to know the things you've done. She's survived this long. Of course, she'll pick the winning team. She also knows that she's not completely off the hook from you. So she'll still want your mercy since Elijah already gave his." Genesis continues as she plops down on her new couch. And Elijah picked well, and it was soft and very much more comfortable than those damn leather couches in the Salvatore house.
"I like where this is going." Niklaus muses with a hum, and Genesis scoffs. "Of course, you will. It is my idea."
"Get on with it." Niklaus rolls his eyes at the other side of the line.
"I'll get Rose to be on our side. Trust me, and all is well." Genesis stands up from her seat and strolls towards her bedroom.
"And I just know how to convince her." Genesis grins as she opens her jewelry box. Taking the marquise black onyx gold vermeil ring with two small diamonds on the side of the stone.
"Still planning on meeting my brother?" Niklaus asks, slowly drifting the conversation toward his brother.
"I am meeting him in about—" Genesis looks at the bedroom wall clock. "30 minutes outside of Mystic Falls. Can't risk someone seeing us." Genesis brushes her fingertips on the pearl engagement ring Rafael gave her.
She sighs and closes the jewelry box, and slips the black onyx ring on her vacant ring finger, with her ring finger still wearing her emerald daylight ring.
"What a scandal, having coffee with the enemy." Niklaus teases as Genesis chuckles. "Hush, now." She rolls her eyes as she walks towards her front door.
"Say hello to my brother for me."
"Go do it yourself." Genesis ended the call as she walked towards Cassandra's house, which was only two houses away from her. She knocks on the door, and she hears Cassandra padding towards the door, opening it with a tired expression.
"Just got home from the night shift?" Genesis says as Cassandra nods, moving slightly so Genesis can enter.
"My apologies if I disturbed your rest." Genesis gives her an apologetic smile as Cassandra waves her hand in dismissal, walking towards the kitchen and returning with a plate of cookies, she places it on the coffee table, and Genesis takes a cookie.
"I don't mind." Cassandra smiles at her as she sits beside Genesis. "What brought you here?'
Genesis takes a bite of the cookie, and she nods in approval at how good it tastes. "I'm not here for long. Elijah's undaggered and is staying in a hotel outside Mystic Falls." Genesis informs her, and Cassandra digests the information while nodding thoughtfully, pursing her lips to the side.
"He's here to help us then?" Cassandra asks, and Genesis nods. "Thought you should know, so you won't be surprised seeing him around town." Cassandra chuckles.
"What is he going to do here?" Cassandra furrows her brows.
"That is what I also need to know. I'm meeting him in about 15 minutes." Genesis looks at her wristwatch as she stands up from her seat. Cassandra hurries towards the kitchen, then gives Cassandra a pack of cookies.
"Giana bakes when she's bored," Cassandra tells her, and Genesis smiles, amused. "Drive safely." She hugs Genesis. Genesis is older than Cassandra, but motherly affection is definitely welcomed.
"Will do. Thanks for the cookies." Genesis raises the bag, laughing lightly as she exits the door. Getting the keys to her car and purse from her house and leaving the cookies behind for later. She drives toward the location where Elijah texted her.
Yes, texted. Genesis took it upon herself to ask Niklaus what Elijah's number was since she forgot to ask for it when they were together. Genesis didn't know that Elijah already had her number in his phone.
Genesis enters the cafe, which is quite empty until she sees the man in a navy blue suit and white collar shirt—no tie, and the suit jacket is unbuttoned. She grins, remembering that it's one of the suits they bought.
"Genesis." His voice slides over her like warm honey, followed by a whisper of whiskey. No one has ever said her name like that before. It's hella attractive. Elijah pulls out her chair, with Genesis biting her lip as she takes a seat. The table already had food. A latte and espresso with two chocolate-covered croissants on the plate in front of her, and his a muffin.
"If you don't mind. I took it upon myself to order your food." Elijah sits on the chair opposite hers, and she smiles at him as she shakes her head in dismissal. "I don't mind at all."
Genesis tilts her head, looking at Elijah with amusement. "You're already wearing the suit that we bought yesterday."
Elijah gives her a grin. "Sent it to the dry cleaners the moment you left." his fingertips grazed the lapel of his suit jacket. He fixes his collar as he gives Genesis a charming smile. "I assumed you'd be happy to see me wearing it already."
Genesis hums as she nods, placing her elbow on the table, knuckle on her chin. She crosses her legs, slightly leaning forward. "Very."
Elijah chuckles. "Seeing as you're a close friend of my brother, Niklaus. Which is surprising. I want to be acquainted with you as well." Elijah laughs lightly when Genesis laughs.
"It might come as a shock. Yes, but Niklaus helped me. Until then, we formed a friendship." Genesis stirs her latte as she takes a sip. She places down the cup as Elijah looks at her in amusement. She furrowed her eyebrows until he offered her his handkerchief.
"You have foam in your upper lip." Elijah smiles as Genesis looks at him in embarrassment, looking away from him as she wipes the foam from her mouth. "I'll return this after I do laundry." Genesis smiles at him shyly, and Elijah shakes his head lightly.
"Keep it," Elijah tells her, and Genesis looks at him, unsure. "I insist." Genesis smiles at him as she tucks his handkerchief into her bag.
"So, Mr. Mikaelson. What do you want to know about me?" Genesis asks, trying to regain her poise exterior.
"Everything."
"Really? In our first formal meeting? Or is this a date?" Genesis teasingly raises an eyebrow at him as she squints her eyes.
Elijah combed his hair with his fingers as he fixed his position on his seat. Leaning forwards slightly, he crosses his legs with his left calf on his right knee. He is looking at Genesis intently.
"Then I'll schedule our dinner if you'd like. If that's your condition of getting acquainted with you." Elijah tells her softly, and his voice is deep and alluring. He shouldn't, and he knows that.
But he just couldn't stay away from her any longer.
Elijah Mikaelson is a patient man, but when it comes to Genesis, he seems to lose track of his moral virtues.
"I would like that," Genesis replies. She doesn't know why. It seems unexplainable the way she finds comfort in his presence. She noticed it yesterday when she was so carefree and at ease, but there's also a lingering ache in her heart that's been confusing her.
Maybe it's the guilt of trying to find someone new. It's been twenty-three years since Rafael died. Should she be feeling this way?
She doesn't know.
"Well, then. Let's discuss important matters." Elijah smiles at her softly, and Genesis nods with a smile of her own.
"The Salvatores now know about the Originals. You and Niklaus, from Rose-Marie." Genesis informs him as she takes a bite of the chocolate-covered croissant.
"It is best to convince Rose-Marie to side with us." Elijah takes a sip of his coffee.
Genesis nods in agreement. "That's what I said to Niklaus."
Elijah chuckles, "Does he disagree?"
"When I brought it up. He told me to kill Rose." Genesis rolls her eyes as she scoffs. "But I like her. So, I'll keep her."
Elijah nods thoughtfully; they both hear Genesis' phone ring. Genesis looks at her apologetically, and Elijah motions his hand to answer her phone in her Prada logo-plaque mini bag. She raises her pointing finger, indicating to him that it'll take a minute. Elijah nods as Genesis answers.
"Damon?" Genesis looks at Elijah as Elijah listens in to their conversation.
"Rose and I are meeting this guy named Slater in Richmond. Want to come?" Damon asks Genesis, and Genesis answers, "Sure, send me the location." Damon ends the call, followed by a text message about the location.
Genesis tilts her head as she looks at Elijah. "Slater is a vampire who knows too much for his own good. He's been trying to dig up some information about me." Genesis rolls her eyes.
"He's a threat, then?" Elijah asks as Genesis nods. "We can't have him blabbering about any information about Niklaus or you. But as far as they know, you're dead." Genesis muses as Elijah chuckles.
"Jonas Martin and his son Lukas Martin are the witches assisting me while I'm here. Jonas has yet to repay a debt." Elijah informs her, and Genesis says, "Tell them about Bonnie Bennett and offer their assistance to her too. The poor girl is being dragged around by the Salvatores and his so-called friend."
Elijah nods as Elijah stands up from his seat, assisting Genesis from her seat. Genesis smiles as she looks at him. Tiptoeing, she gives him a peck on the cheek.
Bold move, Genesis. Very bold move. Genesis thinks to herself. She knows Elijah wanted her as much as she wanted him. Genesis could feel it. Elijah isn't exactly being discreet with his blatant flirting since yesterday. Now that he has felt her lips against his cheek, he'll keep wanting more.
After all,
It's wanting that keeps us alive.
Genesis could hear Amira's voice as she thought of it.
Elijah's eyes widen in surprise, and then his face morphs into a delighted expression as Genesis takes a step backward. "So, who takes care of Slater, you or me?"
"Let me handle it."
They drove to Richmond with Genesis singing along the way, with Elijah looking at her again in an adoring and affectionate manner. Genesis knows she could make men fall head over heels.
Who wouldn't? She's extremely gorgeous, but her charms couldn't be that quick to work. She had just met the man yesterday. Honestly, it's a new record for her.
Genesis parked at the back of the cafe. She looks at Elijah as she turns off her engine. "I don't care how you do it. Just give them a scare—" Elijah was about to say something as Genesis held her hand up and continued, "And don't tell me how, so I'm as surprised as them." Elijah chuckles, nodding as he exits the car with Genesis following behind him, and they separate ways.
Genesis enters the cafe, seeing Rose, Damon, and Slater sitting near the double-paned and tempered glass. She should've known this was where they would meet Slater. This cafe is known to vampires without daylight rings.
"My apologies for being late," Genesis says as she strides towards them. Damon shrugs and says, "You're just in time."
Slater looks at Genesis with amazement. "Genesis Ackerman, born in Northern France, year unknown, turned by an unknown vampire. Also known as Crimson back in the '20s." Slater narrates, and Genesis looks at him with a grin as they sit on the chair. "And you know why I was named Crimson then?"
Slater looks at her nervously as he fumbles with his finger, gulping. Damon and Rose look at her with furrowed brows as Genesis looks at Slater, as he answers with a shaky voice. "Because you leave a crimson-colored mark on your victim's forehead, indicating that you were the one that killed them."
Genesis accepts his answer as she leans back on the chair, crossing her legs as she tilts her head. "So better give us some answers if you don't like that happening to you." Genesis smiles at him sweetly, her tone innocent, but her message is far from innocent. Slater looks at Rose nervously, and Rose shakes her head lightly, warning him with her eyes.
Rose continues their conversation before Genesis arrives, grabbing Slater's wrist gently, trying to calm the man who seemed uncomfortable and looked like a nervous wreck when Genesis arrived. "If someone wanted to get in touch with Klaus, how would you hook 'em up?"
"Craigslist."
Genesis laughs lightly, amused with Damon wearing the opposite expression. "Really?"
Wow.
They contacted Elijah through Craigslist.
Genesis thought they contacted him the old way—a vampire tells another vampire they're looking for Elijah. That vampire tells another vampire that someone is looking for Elijah until it spreads. Then it finally reaches Elijah that someone is looking for him, and he decides to take matters into his own hands.
Not Craigslist. She had to give them a little bit of credit.
"Seriously. I respond to a personal AD that gets sent to somebody who knows somebody who knows Elijah, who's dead, and that's where my connection ends." Slater tells them, looking at Rose apologetically.
Genesis's eyes flicked toward the window that went unnoticed by the three vampires beside her, and she noticed a man wearing a navy blue suit. She hides a grin as she pretends to listen to their conversation.
"Elijah moves around during the day," Damon says, sitting forward, clasping his hands together, and placing them on the table.
"Which means the original people knew the secret of the day ring. Why would Klaus want to lift the curse of the sun and the moon?"
"To keep the werewolves from lifting it," Slater says with an obvious tone. "If a vampire breaks the sun curse, Then the werewolves are stuck. With the curse of the moon forever, And vice versa."
Rose leans forward, her eyes flashing to Genesis in a swift motion, then to Slater, "But werewolves are all but extinct."
Genesis and Damon shared a knowing look.
"True. I've never seen one, but rumor has it–"
"Not such a rumor," Damon tells them, recalling how he and Genesis tortured Mason Lockwood and learned from Caroline this morning that his nephew, Tyler Lockwood, triggered the curse.
Rose and Slater look at him with wide eyes as Slater asks his tone in awe at what Damon just told them, "Mystic falls?" Damon nudged his head to the side with a sarcastic smile on his face, "God, I've got to visit this place. It sounds awesome."
"Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it." Damon sarcastically answers as Genesis begins to tap her fingers on her thigh, growing bored.
"Can we stop the curse from being broken at all?" Damon asks with furrowed brows.
Nope. Niklaus is a dedicated man, after all. He and Genesis share the same trait, not just pettiness, but the fact that if they want something, they'll go to hell and back to get it.
"Well, what do you mean?"
"Well, if we rendered the moonstone useless. And stopped the curse from being broken."
"Well, yeah, probably,"
"But why would you wanna do that?" Slaters ask confusedly.
"Tell me how," Damon asks him. Genesis tilted her head towards the window, seeing Elijah already looking at her. She nodded ever-so-slightly so that the three didn't notice the slight action.
"You think I'm going to help you figure it out? How to do something that would piss off an original? And keep me from walking in the sun?"
"You wanna walk in the sun? I can make that happen," Damon leans forward as Slater does the same. "If you help us."
Suddenly the windows shattered, and Genesis crossed her arms in front of her, covering her face from the shattered glass, ducking down, trying to avoid the debris. Screams echoed throughout the cafe from, mainly from the two vampires that were burning from the sun. Genesis stood up as her eyes darted to Elijah. She gave him an approving discrete smile before Elijah disappeared from her sight.
Genesis looks at Rose, kneeling in front of her as she removes her red coat, covering Rose entirely from the sun as she and Damon assist the woman, with Damon opening the car's back door and placing her in the back seat.
"You're gonna be okay."
"I know. I just—" Rose sighed painfully as the burn marks on her skin slowly healed.
"Who was behind that?" Genesis asks her tone in a state of pretend panic, hoping that no one saw Elijah. Damon looks at Rose expectantly.
"I don't know." Rose shakes her head, then looks at Genesis and Damon worriedly, "Where's Slater?"
Genesis shakes her head in answer, she really has no idea where Slater is, but they have to take care of him.
"Iowa by now. Who the hell knows?" Damon answers irritatedly.
"He's not behind this. He's a good guy." Rose dismisses him quickly. "He wouldn't betray me."
"Then who did it?"
"It's Klaus. Don't you understand?" Rose exclaimed, voice breaking, "You don't know this man. I'm dead. We're all dead." Rose cries out, and she begins to sob uncontrollably as Genesis looks at her in sympathy.
The mindfucks really do work. Genesis muses in her head. Yes, she feels sympathy for Rose-Marie, but she couldn't help but get impressed with Niklaus's mind games.
This just made it more tempting for Rose to accept the daylight ring.
Genesis told them that she was parked outside as Damon headed out.
Genesis walks towards the parking lot exit and sees Elijah leaning on the side of her car, hands tucked in his pockets with an expectant look.
"You Mikaelson's always have a flair for the dramatics," Genesis tells him with an amused tone. Standing in front of him, as Elijah gives her a soft smile, he chuckles.
"I take it you're impressed?" Elijah asks as Genesis unlocks her car with Elijah opening the car door for her.
"Yes. And I'm hard to impress." Genesis tells him as she starts the engine with Elijah sitting in the passenger seat. He fixes his coat, smoothing the fabric with his hands. Elijah grins, responding, "Then I'm more than willing to impress you often."
Genesis squints her eyes at him, a smile on her plump red lips. "I'm ready to see you try."
Elijah tilts his head slightly with an amused expression. Then he tells her that Jonas located Slater's location.
So, that's how they ended up in Slater's penthouse along with Jonas.
With Elijah compelling Slater to call Rose and tell them to get the moonstone and find a witch—Elijah already knew that the real moonstone was with Genesis, but they needed to play along.
They needed to lure Elena out and seek Elijah's help when he finally revealed himself to the folks in Mystic Falls.
Genesis, Elijah, and Niklaus needed Elena, Damon, and Stefan exactly where they were on the center stage, thinking that they were in control, but they were just puppets with three powerful vampires pulling the strings.
"Very nicely done." Elijah commends as Genesis stands a few feet from him and Slater. With Jonas standing in the kitchen, observing.
"Thanks. I've a degree in Theater." Slater says nervously as he turns around, facing Elijah, eyes flickering to Genesis. Confusion overtook him.
"How can you compel me? A vampire can't compel another vampire." Slater asks with a shaky tone—with a hint of curiosity.
"I'm a special vampire." Elijah shrugs as he plasters a smile.
"What, because you're an original?" Slater asks, and Elijah hums in confirmation. Slaters look at Genesis. "I thought you were against them?"
Genesis strolls towards them, crossing her arms as she titles her head, smiling at him tauntingly, "Now, why will I be against the winning side?" Slater looks at her nervously.
"This is centuries in the making, Slater. You know too much, and that won't do." Genesis pouts mockingly as Elijah chuckles as he hands Slater a wooden stake, "Now, I want you to take this and drive it through your heart."
"But that would k-kill me forever."
"I know," Elijah says as he looks at Slater in the eyes, pupils dilating.
"But it's necessary."
Genesis grins.
That is so sexy of him.
Slater stabs himself in the chest, the wooden stake piercing his heart, falling on the floor with a thump as his skin turns gray, veins crawling all over his body.
"Was it, really?" Jonas asks, walking towards them, disappointed in his features as he looks at Slater's dead body.
"It had to be done. He delivered his message. Won't be long now."
