"Wow" I mumble looking around the buzzing hospital as I enter with my brother "This place is packed"
I spot our mom and I grab Scott's arm, dragging him forward. He holds up her dinner to her and she smiles at us.
"Oh, thank God. I'm starving" She says, taking the plastic bag from him.
She places the bag down on the front desk and turns back to us.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Thank you for bringing me dinner" She says, giving us both quick hugs.
"Is everything okay?" Scott asks her and she nods.
"Except for half the accident victims in a 10 car pile up being rerouted here from downtown, and the ER attending not answering any of his pages? Yeah, I'm okay" Our mom rants, obviously stressed.
"What does "not answering pages" mean?" Scott asks.
"He's MIA. Most likely snoozing somewhere. They're probably gonna have to wait for the on-call to get here" I answer and he rolls his eyes at me.
"You watch too much Greys Anatomy" He states.
"Miss?" A crying woman approaches our mom.
"Yes?" She asks the woman.
"Excuse me. Can I kind of please have something for the pain?" The woman asks through tears.
"Okay, I'm sorry. I know. But actually giving you something could complicate things, so...We really just need to wait for the doctors, okay?" Mom explains to the woman, sitting her down before turning back to the receptionist "How much longer on Dr Hilyard?"
"Ten minutes" The receptionist answers.
Scott sits down next to the injured woman and I smile softly as I watch him take her pain away, black veins running up his arm.
"Someone help me!" I hear the voice of Ethan Steiner fill my ears and I spin around to see him helping a limping Danny "I need help!"
"Mom!" I yell and she comes rushing to help as Scott also jumps up.
We help Ethan sit Danny down in a chair and and he screams in pain.
"What did you do to him?" Scott snaps, grabbing Ethan back.
"Nothing!" Ethan retorts "He said he was having chest pains and trouble breathing, but it just kept getting worse"
"This is not good" I hear my mom comment "How much longer on Dr Hilyard?! His larynx has shifted to the side. I think it's a tension pneumothorax"
Danny abruptly lurches forward and throws up a bunch of light coloured liquid with what looks to be some type of plant mixed in.
"Mistletoe" Ethan murmurs and I look at him in confusion.
Another nurse rushes over and helps my mom get Danny onto a stretcher, wheeling him off. Ethan, Scott and I follow behind closely as Danny groans loudly in pain.
"Can you three please go back to the waiting room?" My mom huffs.
"Where are the nurses and the doctors? Where is everyone?" Ethan asks in disbelief.
"It's a full house tonight. They're tending to other patients" She answers.
"Okay. Well, Mom, how can we help?" Scott asks.
"Honey, you can't. His lung is collapsed. His heart is being pushed against his chest cavity now" She explains.
"Isn't there anything you can do?" Ethan asks me.
"Why would my daughter be able to help?" My mom asks and I frown.
"There's nothing I can do" I tell Ethan and then turn to my mom "We have to talk"
"That's an understatement" She scoffs.
"He's gonna die, isn't he?" I ask in worry.
"No. No, he's not" She replies, looking around "Scott, you grab the tape. You grab those scissors and cut open his shirt"
Ethan rips open the front of Danny's shirt and my mom grabs a syringe as Danny gasps for a breath.
"Mom, he's not breathing" Scott declares.
"I know, I know" She snaps.
We all watch in worry as she plunges the syringe into Danny's chest and slowly pulls back on the end, allowing him to take in a deep breath.
"Okay, here we go" She sighs before pulling out the syringe.
"Thank you" Danny says tiredly, making my mom grin widely.
"No problem" She assures him.
Ethan let's out a loud sigh of relief and I stare at my mother in awe.
"What?" She says in confusion.
"That was awesome" Scott answers.
"For real, Mom. You are so much cooler than Meredith Grey" I tell her and she lets out a laugh.
"It wasn't a- No problem, you know. I mean, it wasn't a big deal" She says before letting out another laugh.
I wrap my arms around her tightly and she hugs me, patting my back.
"It's time to talk" She whispers.
We pull apart and I turn to Scott who nods his head encouragingly. I step back and look around the room to check the coast is clear before closing the room door and pulling down the blind.
Ethan throws a pillow at me and I shoot him a smile, sitting down on the floor. I rip the pillow open and spread the feathers onto the floor in front of me. My mom looks at me in confusion and I smile at her warmly.
I shut my eyes and mumble a short incantation under my breath, lifting my hands and twirling them around. A choked gasp is heard and I open up my eyes which are glowing a bright pink, looking at my mom who is staring at me in disbelief. A pink glowing dust travels slowly around me, carrying the floating feathers.
"Mom, I'm a witch" I declare and she smiles softly, looking at the feathers in awe.
I return all the feathers back into the pillow as not to leave a mess and stand up, offering the pillow to my mom. My eyes fade back to their regular chocolate brown and she takes the pillow from me.
"How long?" She asks curiously.
"My whole life" I answer simply.
"That explains a lot" She states and Scott chuckles.
The door is thrown open as a nurse wheels in another patient on a stretcher and I turn to Scott.
"We should get going" I tell him and he nods.
"Later, Momma" I smile, pecking her cheek.
"Bye, Mom" Scott adds, hugging her.
"Bye, kids! I'll see you both later" She yells after us as we exit the room.
Scott throws his arm around me and I smile up at him, proud of myself for finally telling our mom what I am.
We reach the bike and Scott hands me the helmet, making me roll my eyes. He turns around and I see Ethan jogging towards us.
"I know you're not gonna believe me, but I didn't do anything" The Alpha declares.
"All I know is that the minute that you got here, you went right for Danny and your brother went right for my sister" Scott states and I frown.
"We're not gonna hurt him" Ethan assures us.
"Why should I believe you?" Scott retorts.
"Because we knew one of them was gonna be important to you, and now we know it's Natalia" Ethan explains and my stomach twists in an uneasy way.
Scott suddenly steps forward and Ethan turns to look at what my brother is looking at. I notice a car slowly swerving aimlessly through the parking lot and my frown deepens in confusion. The car hits a parked one and we all rush forward. Scott yanks the door open and I see that the car is empty.
"What is that?" Ethan asks and Scott reaches into the car.
He lifts something up and I look over his shoulder to see the dead butterfly.
β¦ β¦ β¦
"Two missing" Stiles states.
"Hang on there" Sheriff Stilinski replies "They were both in the car?"
"No, Dad. They're trying to tell you that it was two separate kidnappings, okay? Two doctors, both gone" Stiles explains in frustration.
"So whose car is this?" The Sheriff asks.
"Dr Hilyard. The on-call doctor. The ER attending is the one that never made it in" My mom explains.
"Let me just focus on getting your story first, all right?" Sheriff says and my mom nods.
"Yeah" She replies.
"You three, give us a second" Sheriff tells us and we all nod.
Scott, Stiles and I walk off to give them a little space and I stop, turning to the boys.
"These are definitely sacrifices, right?" I ask.
"Yeah, it's one Deaton mentioned. Healers" Stiles explains.
"What about Danny? He threw up mistletoe. That's not a coincidence" Scott states "And if he hadn't been with Ethan, he probably would've died"
"And Danny's not a healer?" I add.
"I- Can you hear that?" Stiles asks my brother, pointing at his father who is on the phone.
Scott listens in for a minute before turning to us in surprise.
"They found a body" He declares.
