Naerys joined her family for supper but her children were not with her, just yet. Daemon sat in front of her, his eyes rarely leaving her figure, he wanted to keep his lilac eyes on her for eternity if he could. Laena was lovely, Naerys thought. She was such a beauty. She was kind, graceful an a tad wild but she was always good to her, Naerys had no complaints about her. 'But you fucked her husband and gave him four children, two sons and two daughters' her mind said and she looked down.
Besides Laena sat her mother and besides Rhaenys sat Corlys. Rhaenys and Corlys had been like a father and mother to her since she had left the Keep. From time to time she would visit them or they would visit her. More often than not she would fly with Rhaenys, Meleys loved the company of Meraxes, although Meraxes was much older than the red queen she loved to spent time with her. When their riders would take walks on the beach to the she dragons would fly above them or they would fish and race each other. Meraxes would always beat Meleys but sometimes Meleys would win. Although Rhaenys and Naerys knew Meraxes was letting her win.
Now, those times seem to faint in memory. What would Rhaenys and Corlys think of her? They would hate her for what she had done, she was sure of it. Even her father could not defend them from that. She looked around the table, the children were abed, fast asleep or in their chambers, resting or so everyone thought. Naerys looked at her sister who was whispering to her husband, Laenor. Laenor was always goof to her, for the little time they spent together, he never treated her any different.
The king stood up and the table went quiet. "I would like to make an announcement" everyone's eyes went to him. "My daughter, princess Naerys has made me a proud grandsire" everyone turned to look at the princess. She smiled at them. "Whilst her time on Dragonstone, she met a man. A man that made her believe in love" he smiled at her, and she retuned the smile. "Most of us have had marriages of duty, not love. We may have learned to love our husbands and wives. My daughter was lucky to have marry a man for love" everyone began to look around trying to figure out what was happening.
He looked at her once again. "Sadly, their story was not a long one, but it has left its mark. Four children. Two twin boys, Baelon and Aemon" Naerys saw Rhaenys' eyes watered at the mentioning of her father. "And twin daughters, Visenya and Alyssa" everyone looked at the king and Daemon who felt emotional. Daemon was not happy but he knew that was the only way. "I am happy that my daughter has found love. Although, she has lost the man she loves, he will live through their children. I hope you welcome the children with open arms, for they are family" the people nodded, not sure what to make of the news they had just heard.
Many congratulations were heard. Her sister was the happiest. Perhaps this time, princess Naerys would remain in King's Landing. Rhaenys congratulated her, she loved her. She was like a daughter to her. But, in a way she saw the sadness on Naerys and because she trusted her, she believed her sadness was due to the loss of her "lover" but how wrong she was. The night ended in a good note and Naerys would no be more happy.
When she made her way into her room she realized how empty it fell. Although the children were not far behind she felt lonely in the room. The door that led to the secret passages opened, from the shadows Daemon emerged. "Daemon?" Naerys asked in a whisper. "What are you doing in my chmabers? You cannot be hear!" she whispered. "Why?" Daemon asked with a knowing smirked. "Daemon" she scolded. "What? I just wanted to see my niece" he replied nonchalantly. She rolled her eyes. "Not here, Daemon" she told him and he knew what she meant but he did not care.
Daemon sat on awe couch as he watched her undress. She had her ladies ready her bath before she arrived, she dismissed them early so she could have alone time. She got rid of her dress and all before getting on her bath. Daemon then stood and made his way over to her. He took the sponge and her favorite soap and began to wash her. She did not say a word and let herself relax to his touch.
The princess chambers were quiet and warm. But, the quietness was comfortable for the both of them. "I feel guilty" she told him. It was something she had wanted to say for the longest time. "But, the other part of me cares very little about what others have to say or think. I'm gullible to think that what others say will not affect me because I know it will. But, is it wrong to feel selfish?" Naerys asked and he shook his head no. "We are dragons, we have desires. It's normal for us" he told her. "But, Laena, she is my friend" she told him. He washed her hair, he used to do the same when they spent time in Dragonstone.
Their was a long silence. "When Laena and I choose to marry we didn't do it for love nor duty" he began. "Laena is much like her brother. They share the same... taste or rather they swing like the other should" Naerys was confused for a moment but after a few seconds she understood. "Laena likes women?" She whispered and he nodded. "We made an arrangement" he said. "We had a child or two together and then, we could be with whoever we wished. I did not wish to be married to someone I did not like nor love once again" he added.
Naerys stayed quiet, this was a shock to her. She always fell like Laena was more into women but she never thought she would be right. "Laena and I enjoy each other's company. We sleep together from time to time. We often bring other women into our bed" he eyed. "Perhaps, you can join us one day" he said although it sounded more like a question. She smiled at him. "I have never been with a woman before. And I do not know how Laena will Laena react to the news" Daemon shook his head before kissing her shoulder.
Naerys felt her body relax under his touch. "Daemon. After the celebration I will return to Dragonstone. You can come see the children whenever you wish" Daemon had returned and he planned to stay as his wife wished to be closer to her family. "Why can't you stay here?" Daemon asked. "I know that no matter what father says people will talk about my children and their parentage" she told him. She stood up and grabbed her towel. "You should go. I have grown tired and the day has been long. I wish to sleep. To get some rest" Daemon said nothing but she could see he was upset. He said nothing as he walked away, leaving the princess alone in her chambers. It would be a long name day celebration.
The name day celebration started four days after her arrival, by then, everyone around the realm knew the princess was a mother of four. Yet, the realm welcome it with open arms and nobody made any comments as the princess was always kind and good to others and they knew it. Queen Alicent did not like it but unlike how she did with Rhaenyra she left Naerys alone with her little family. Naerys did spend time with her brothers and sister and even introduced them to her children, which made the four Hightower children very happy.
The tourney began and the entire royal family was dressed in Targaryen colors. Alicent could not say no when Naerys sent the dress and the boys clothing to her children, she could only smile and thank her for the gifts. Laena and Rhaenyra's children also receive the outfits for the children, Naerys wanted everyone in her family to represent where they stood. The king smiled, it was the first time in years where the whole family stood together.
Laena saw Daemon, she saw how his eyes followed her, and she could not deny that Naerys had grown into a lovely woman, she knew she would but she never thought she would ever see her in a different light. She was a beauty and her kindness made her even more attractive in her eyes. Laena cared and loved Daemon but she was not in love with him as he was not in love with him but they knew and understood their duties and planned to do their duty yet also be happy in the process. They were happy, ten long years of happiness and even being happy outside their marriage.
Laena watched Daemon enter the arena and everyone began to cheer, even Naerys' children. It was at that moment that she knew. Daemon had told her Naerys was pregnant, some men she fell in love with and she believed him, she knew Naerys wanted love over being married to someone she did not love or even like. So, she knew she was capable of marrying or being someone for love. Yet, it clicked it could be Daemon, because after the birth of the twins they did not try for more children even when Laena knew Daemon wanted a son, a boy to raise to be better than him and now he had two. He saw how Daemon's eyes stayed on her and her children. "My dear niece, since it's your name day celebration, I wish to win the crown in your honor. Will you be kind enough to give me your favor?" Daemon asked with a cheeky smile and she nodded, giving him a small smile. "Good luck my prince, may the Valyrian gods bless you with a grand victory" she told him as she kissed her favor and tossed it to him, he catches it and smiled. "With your luck it might be enough, my love" he said the last part in Valyrian so in their close space only the two understood. She smiled and waved him off.
As he promised, Daemon won in her honor and the entire public cheered for the prince and the princess as he placed the crown on her head. She thanked him but nothing else. Lord Stark, who had been second place had asked her to dance at the feast, she danced with a few lords as Lord Stark had taken time to be with her most of the night but she did spend time with her family. She danced with her father, her sister Rhaenyra, with her sister Helaena and her brothers, with Laenor, Daemon, Laena, Rhaenys lord Corlys, with her nephews.
Laena held her hand softly. "I see the way he looks at you" she told her and Naerys looked into her eyes. "Who?" Naerys asked. "Daemon" she replied. "He's Daemon. Always looked at every woman" she told Laena. "Daemon has looked at and bed many women, I know that. But he has never looked at them with such love and devotion. Not even me" she told her and Naerys looked at her once again. "I do not know. Daemon will always be Daemon and married" she said as she looked over at the table where Daemon played with the boys while Rhaenyra and her father carried Visenya and Alyssa.
The king and the crown princess could not let go of their children. Both girls and boys. "Daemon tells you will return to Dragonstone soon after the celebration is over. Is it true?" Laena asked and she nodded. "I was born here, even raised her for some years. It does not matter what I do or do not do, it never feels like home" she told her. "I love my family, with all my heart. Yet, I cannot stand to be here. It makes me said. It makes me feel like I have not found my place in the world. My true home" she looked over at her family, her sons and daughters specifically. "But, being in Dragonstone with my children and my darling love, I was happy. I was content and complete" she told Laena who smiled at the way she was describing Daemon. "So, let us come with you" she told her and Naerys looked at Laena as if she had grown two heads. "I know it was Daemon your father spoke of. I know it in my heart. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to but I know its him. And I do not mind. Daemon and I made our arrangements before we married and it has not changed and it will not change. I promise you" Naerys just looked at her and then, right a light, a feeling light within her. For her. For Laena Velaryon.
As said, Naerys bid her goodbye and promised to visit her family for one week every month, Laena and Daemon left for Dragonstone, and promised to do the same, so Rhaenyra would not be so alone in King's Landing with the greens, but Rhaenys would be staying as her husband was back in the council. In addition to Naerys coming back every moon, she had asked her father and sister to sent her brothers and nephews to Dragonstone so they could spend time together and learn more about their heritage and maybe, Aemond could claim a dragon with the help of her sister, uncle and aunt.
So, as said, Naerys had her brothers, nephews and nieces with her in Dragonstone, the castle was always filled with laughters and warmth. She was happy and Laena saw it in her eyes, when she was in Dragonstone she saw how happy Naerys was and she understood that Dragonstone was her home. The children, Aegon, Helaena, Aemond, Dacron, Baela, Rhaena, Jace and Luke got along fine without Alicent being on her children's ear whispering bad things about Rhaenyra or her children. They could finally be children in peace.
As the children grew close, Laena, Naerys and Daemon grew close as well. First, it was Laena and Naerys. They would fly together, and do their duties, or Laena rather helped Naerys with her duties as the lady of Dragonstone. It stared with hidden glances, then soft touches here and there, then one day, Laena after some cups of wine was feeling brave and bold. Naerys was with her, both women were reminiscing about the good old days when Laena told her she found her beauty. "I always knew you would grow into a great beauty" she told her and Naerys smiled. "You flatter me, Laena" she told her. "I only tell the truth, my sweet princess" Naerys rolled her eyes yet a smiled graced her lips. That nickname had been there for nearly seven months and Naerys secretly loved it, but she would never let Laena know that. Laena stood from her seat and made her way over to Naerys who was confused but said nothing. "May I kiss you?" Laena asked and Naerys for the first time in months allowed herself to be bold about her feelings for Laena. "Yes" she whispered as she leaned closed to her. Their lips finally touched and both women felt in heaven they felt like they belonged together and ever since they were rarely seen together, even more than before and that's how Daemon knew Laena loved her too.
Daemon knew but said nothing, he saw that Naerys was happy and that was all that mattered to him. Daemon's days were always busy, helping the children with their training and he even managed to get dragons for Aemond and Rhaena. Laena loved spending her days with Naerys, she would go as far as to say that Naerys Targaryen was the love of her life. But, she knew that even when Naerys loved her back, she also loved Daemon and she knew she missed him. Although, the two lived in the same castle they seemed like oceans apart, Naerys knew that Laena was in her life, she could have Daemon too but she was scared and embarrassed to approach.
One night, Laena gave the two lovers a slight push in the right direction. "Naerys" Laena called her lover. "Who was your first kiss?" Laena asked knowing who it was. Naerys looked at Daemon who was already looking at her. Naerys kept her eyes on Daemon. "It was Daemon" she replied and Laena smiled. "Mmh, I figured it was" she said nonchalant. "You know, Daemon told me he fell in love just once" Daemon looked at Laena, suspiciously. "He told me a beautiful maiden made him believe he was worth saving" she looked at Naerys.
Naerys looked at Laena and back at Daemon. "Daemon has always been worth saving. He just needs to accept it on his own" she said whilst keeping her eyes on him. Daemon looked down, he smiled like a young man being noticed by the pretty lady he has always liked. "So, if the both of you care about each other why are you two still acting like strangers?" Naerys looked away. "Naerys, my darling princess" Laena began as she knelt in front of her. "I love you, so much. And I know that you love me too. But, I also know that you love Daemon. He has been a constant presence in your life even before I came into the picture. He has taken care of you when no one else has. He has stood by your side when no one else has" Daemon looked at Naerys, his puppy eyes were effective. He looked at her with such love and possession. Daemon would never ever let another man touch Naerys. Laena Velaryon was the exception.
Naerys knew it was true, since the moment she could understand, she knew she could trust Daemon with anything. "And you, Daemon. Naerys believes in you. She loves you, just as you are. She accepts you, flawed or not she loves you, Daemon. Not the rouge prince or prince Daemon. She loves Daemon. She believes you can be saved, that you are worth saving" Daemon never took his eyes off Naerys. "So, why are you wasting your time being apart when you can be together?" Naerys kissed Laena before she stood up and made her way over to Daemon.
The princess knelt in front of the rogue prince. "I love you, Daemon with all I have. I dream of you. I hope for you. I pray for you. I yearn for you. For your love, for your smile, your cockiness, your charm, your sarcastic ways, your cleverness, most of all, I yearn to have you by my side for the rest of my life, perhaps even after" Daemon held her face in his hands. "I never been one to write poems. Nor am I one to know how to properly know how to express my own emotions but you, you make me feel alive. You make my life feel simple and worth everything. I love you, you have bewitched me, body and soul. And I love you with all I have. I cannot imagine myself with anyone that is not you, for you make life worth living. You make me want to be a better men, for you, our children, for Laena and our little family. I want us to work. I want us to be a family" Laena saw the happiness spilling out of them.Β
Naerys pulled Daemon into a passionate kiss. The two held each other close. Naerys turned towards Laena and signaled her to join them. She kissed Laena and Daemon and the two smiled as she held them close. "I want to spend the rest of my life with the two of you and our children" Laena looked at Daemon who was already smirking at her. "Marry us" he told her and Laena nodded at the idea. "In the way of old Valyria. It will be like Aegon and his sisters" Naerys nodded.
Daemon and Laena married princess Naerys Targaryen two weeks later in the way of Old Valyria, informing their families a week after their wedding, no one was happier for them then their own families. Rhaenyra and king Viserys knew Naerys would be happy with Daemon and Laena. Laenor, Rhaenys and Corlys knew Laena loved Naerys as she loved her. And the three of them made a great life for themselves.
A month after they married, King Viserys and princess Rhaenyra gifted Dragonstone to Naerys as a wedding gift, they tasked her with the care of dragons, to make sure more dragons hatched. A year later, Naerys gave birth to another son, a boy who they named Viserys after her father. Laena gave birth to another daughter who they name Naera in Naerys' honor. Two years later princess Naerys gave birth once again to a daughter who they named Aemma, in honor of her mother.
Naerys' youngest siblings asked to be foster with her and her family in Dragonstone and as much Alicent did not like it she had no choice in the matter, her children and their father had agreed. But, Naerys and her family would spend a week in King's Landing every moon, the family was happy, and House Targaryen stood at its peak. Laena passed away first, the winter fever was not so kind to her or queen Alicent who passed away three weeks before Laena. Two years after Laena's death, princess Naerys took the birthing bed one last time, this time, giving birth to two girls, Rhaenyra and Laena in honor of two of the women who she loved the most.
Naerys was not allowed to be there when Laena died, but she wrote to her, she made sure Laena knew she was loved, not only by her but by their children and even Daemon who took Laena's death hard as well. Daemon and Naerys found comfort within each other, and never left each other's side. The two remained together till their last day, well, Daemon's side till his death, when he was nearly ninety years old. Naerys and Daemon were the only two Targaryen's who lived past seventy.
Naerys outlived all of her siblings, dying at the old age of one hundred and five, she saw her sister become queen, she saw Jacaerys become king, she saw Baelor, (Jace's son) become king and Aelor (Baelor's son) become king. Naerys lived a long and happy life with the two people she loved the most and she regretted nothing. Her children got to be kings and queen, intertwined with her sister's blood. It was her hard working with the dragons and dragons egg that allowed House Targaryen to carry their dragons for many years to come, even when the Robert's Rebellion toon place, the dragons were the reason why the rebellion didn't go anywhere. Naerys' bloodline had more dragons then the royal family and despite their own differences they stood by them when Robert Baratheon tried to kill their line. Instead, they aided Rhaegar on taking his father's throne, Lyanna died during her childbirth, her and the child were lost. Elia was lost as well as her children, but Rhaegar remarried, this time to his aunt, princess Naerys Targaryen Velaryon. The two brought peace and happiness back to Westeros and were known as Jaehaerys and Alyssane born again, only difference was, Rhaegar loved and cherished his daughters far better than the old king Jaehaerys ever did.
Everyone admired and knew Naerys Targaryen. They knew it was thanks to her and her care that dragons still roamed that skies. Her bloodline continued her legacy on training and hatching more dragons. Everyone knew the story of the Life of Princess Naerys Targaryen and how she lived happily ever after with her lovers, prince Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon.
