FOR a moment there, seulgi actually thought wendy was back home.
the delicious scent woke her up as she tossed to her side, and she peeked her head from behind her pillow. the smell seemed somewhat familiar, like she'd encountered it before. but whatever it was, it definitely smelled like food - cooking food - and immediately, she took it as a sign: nobody cooked in this household but wendy did.
she had managed to open one eye before she heard soft clanking sounds outside, and she gave a yawn. wendy was definitely probably here, she thought. it was highly unlikely, considering that she didn't really live there anymore (a fact that seulgi was still getting used to) but she was still counting on it.
counting on it was actually her best chance right now.
she pulled herself up and peeked an eye open as she slowly walked into the kitchen, which was about a few paces outside her room, careful to avoid the sunlight peeking through so it won't sting her eyes. her head spun because of the slight hangover she had, but she didn't really care.
not when wendy could be finally back here.
she walked over to where the smell was coming from, holding on to the walls, almost crying out, "wen-"
but she just stopped midway, by the dining table, and what came out instead was a soft "oh"; a disappointed one, but it dragged out to be an awestricken one.
the delicious smell really was familiar to seulgi, since it turned out to be the smell of the instant ramyeon cooking on a small pot on the stove. she swore she smelled something much more different; she didn't know whether to feel stupid or betrayed - maybe a little bit of both - because wendy's cooking smelled so similar, and she knew in herself that she missed it a lot, especially since wendy wouldn't be here during mornings anymore.
as for the clanking sounds, she should've been sure jimin was responsible for them, with his familiar build standing behind the small island in the middle of the kitchen, his back turned from her. he seemed to busy himself far too much for a pack of instant noodles that took three minutes to cook, but that wasn't what caught her attention even if she wanted to. his bare upper body did that for him, along with the black jogging shorts and white socks he was wearing that seemed to complement his whole physique even more.
jimin sure had his ways of catching her attention even if he wasn't trying, and she had to give it to him.
he glanced at her as soon as he felt her staring, and gave a small smirk before he turned away. "good morning," he said in a sweet tone.
seulgi snapped out of it and raised an eyebrow as she approached and sat on one of the stools by the kitchen island. "morning."
jimin looked back, his face full of concern. well, judging from his expression, at least she assumed he was concerned. "sleep terribly?"
oh, so he was talking to her now. "woke up terribly," she said, avoiding his gaze. she wasn't in the best mood, and his shirtless body didn't help with it improving either.
he reached over and grabbed the small mug beside him and turned to place it in front of her, leaning his elbows on the table.
"here," he said. seulgi removed her hands from her temples and looked up at him. "drink up," he added, motioning his head towards the mug.
seulgi just stared at the mug - it was a cup of coffee, like what it was meant to be, but she just looked at him like he was plotting her murder.
"why?"
jimin raised an eyebrow. "because your day's already had a rough start." he said it innocently. "coffee always makes my day better, so i'd think it'll make yours alright."
seulgi just stared at him again. she had no idea what to do with a cup of coffee from the one who's actually been handing her out the misery she's been feeling. of course he was just as nice. then she just stared at the mug, and then looked at him again.
"oh, come on, don't be silly," jimin said, putting his hands down. "it's coffee, there's nothing in it." he looked over at the mug. "it won't kill you, unless you're allergic to, what, creamer?"
seulgi rolled her eyes. "it's not the creamer i'm worried about."
jimin narrowed his eyes for a moment, but ended up shaking his head anyway. "alright, suit yourself." he lifted his elbows and brought himself again by the kitchen counter.
seulgi looked at the cup of coffee, and then at jimin again. then she grabbed the mug by the handle and took a small sip.
his coffee is still the best.
a few moments later, jimin spoke up again. "were you looking for someone?" he poured some hot water from the kettle to his cup, and she almost didn't reply, being focused on the way his muscles contorted as he moved.
she almost choked on the hot liquid. "w-what?" she managed.
"you almost called me by a different name earlier. which means you probably were expecting someone besides me to be standing in this kit-"
"i thought you were wendy," she admitted quickly, still avoiding his gaze.
jimin turned back and smiled. "wendy?"
"yeah." seulgi looked up at him, and closed her eyes. "it's not weird, right?"
"it's only weird if you only let it be weird," jimin said, looking back at her from his noodles, and she was taken aback. she rolled her eyes.
now he's using joy's lines against me, she said in her mind. way to fricking go.
"right," she scoffed.
"don't you like me here?" he said, turning with the cup of ramyeon in his hands. "why were you looking for wendy?" he sat down on the stool beside her.
seulgi took a sip of her coffee and looked at him. "do you really want to know the answer to that question?"
she had no idea where the sass came from, but from the looks of jimin, he was appreciating the fight she was putting up, and just went on with it.
"well, yeah." He slurped a small noodle. "i'm your roommate now, after all, seulgi, not wendy."
she raised an eyebrow. no shit, jimin. she had no idea what he was trying to tell that way, but she was determined to set her boundaries. it was her apartment, after all.
"well, if you want me to be honest, which is what i'll do anyway," she leaned her elbows on the surface, "no, i don't. i don't even want to be roommates with you." she pursed her lips. "i prefer wendy, thank you."
he narrowed his eyes. "care to tell me why?"
"i have a lot of reasons to list, actually."
"is me being your ex one of them?" he asked her that with big eyes as he ate, and seulgi was both taken aback, because it was so straightforward, and challenged. kang seulgi loved a good challenge.
two can play at this, park jimin.
"one of many," she said, narrowing her own eyes. "ex or no ex, i wouldn't want you as a roommate."
jimin nodded, as if he wasn't being offended. "why's that then? care to tell me?"
"well, for starters, who doesn't wear a shirt at all during breakfast?" she said, leaning back and pointing at him, crossing her arms. "huh?"
"i went on a jog this morning," he explained. "and the shirt i wore is still soggy."
"that soggy?"
"i went around the neighborhood. you know, discovered my way aro-"
"do you happen to own just this one shirt?"
"no."
"then why not put on a different shirt, pervert?"
jimin laughed. "okay, first of all, that's not being a pervert," he said, holding his hands up, the ramyeon cup in the one of them. "second, what's wrong with this?" he started rubbing his belly, exposing his torso more and flexing it some more.
seulgi tried her best not to be amazed by them anymore and avoided her gaze. "god, jimin."
"what was that?" he asked as he put a bicep in the air and flexed it. seulgi just groaned and sipped her coffee, avoiding her gaze.
"what the hell," seulgi reacted. "look, i'm still a girl, and-"
"psh, it's not as if you don't like this view," he said, rubbing his belly again, pretending like he was stretching. he continued to show off as seulgi finished her mug of coffee.
"a girl is naturally attracted to hot bodies," she said as-a-matter-of-factly, "so don't blame me if i gawk."
jimin was just shaking it. "please. you love this body. it's not like you hate it." he leaned back and took his chopsticks again. "it shows on your face."
seulgi opened her mouth to speak, and jimin looked up at her, only to take it back, and jimin just laughed again. she felt embarrassed, but at the same time, well, flustered. jimin had been more attractive since we broke up.
"you're not even trying to lie."
seulgi's eyes widened. "hey-"
"knew it," he said, smirking, almost laughing. "if there's anyone who's a pervert here, it's you, kang seulgi."
she shook her head in defeat and walked over to the cupboard, where she angrily took out another cup of the instant ramyeon.
"you're a weird guy," said seulgi, shaking her head as she opened the packaging.
jimin scoffed. "please, you dated me." seulgi looked back. "which means you'rr weird." he laughed. "means you have a weird taste in men, too."
the atmosphere lightened a bit, but seulgi wasn't going to let herself lose to him again. this wasn't a battle he was going to win easily; not if there was anything she could do about it. she glared at him.
"i'm not the one making the uncomfortable jokes," she returned. "and it hasn't even been a week yet." nice one.
"hey, i said i was sorry for that," he said, giving a small pout. "i always say sorry."
"and you always fail to convince me every time."
jimin raised an eyebrow, but his smile was still there. "glad to know you haven't changed one bit, seulgi."
"oh, har har," she said. "you haven't changed one bit, either."
and she did mean it. jimin was a great guy; he was sweet and always did the best at taking care of her from what she remembers; but he was a cocky little thing, and the only way to shut him was to feed his ego and give him what he wants.
which was a big no no for seulgi.
"of course," he said. "and i won't be changing any time soon, just so you know." he looked up at her. " a little heads up for you, since we're roommates now."
"for the record, i didn't plan any of this, wendy did," seulgi cleared as she prepared her own water to pour. "so it's no use blaming me."
"i'm not blaming you," he said, shaking his head and putting down his cup and chopsticks. "in fact, despite what you may think, i think i'd actually like living with you."
"well, i certainly won't."
"glad to hear that." he stood up to throw his cup in the trash can, and leaned by her as she prepped up.
"you know, i actually think i do well in being a roommate."
seulgi scoffed. "yeah? well, i beg to differ."
"hey, now. i'm not a pig, correct?"
"possibly."
jimin tilted his head as he narrowed his monolid eyes. "i clean up well, for your information. in fact, my last roommate didn't want me to leave." he smiled that cocky smile. "i leave such an impact on people."
"hell yeah, you do."
seulgi closed her eyes and took a deep breath. she was fuming, but she continued on, doing her best to keep her composure.
don't let him run you over again with all of this, seulgi, she whispered to herself. don't let him do this again.
"you shouldn't open the lid all the way," Jimin said, looking at her work.
she raised an eyebrow at him. "what?"
"you shouldn't open the lid all the way like this," he pointed at it. "you're still going to be closing the top of the cup since you're going to, you know, wait for the noodles to cook."
seulgi only narrowed her eyes. "why do you care?"
"i was just telling you, that's all."
"not your noodles, anyway."
"just trying to be hel-"
"alright, whatever, jimin," she said, looking up at him. "just leave me and my soggy noodles in peace."
jimin just shook his head. "fine, whatever."
he walked over to the other side of the island, and seulgi followed him with her gaze. she turned back, drumming her fingers on the counter, before closing her eyes.
she couldn't believe this. she couldn't believe that after practically shutting him out after their break-up, locking him out the first three hours of his moving day, and practically filling his ears with sarcastic responses and comments after he offered her coffee on his first morning, he was still being nice to her. well, that would make her the irrational ex out of the both of them, and that wasn't good.
a lot of thoughts on a cup of instant ramen, she was presuming.
"hey, jimin?"
"i thought you wante-"
"why are you being so nice to me?" seulgi said out of the blue, causing him to look back at her.
"what?"
"why are you being nice to me?" seulgi asked him again, and he walked over slowly. "i know we've been together and it didn't turn out great," she said, "so why are you still okay with that?"
her kettle started whistling, but that wasn't what startled her. what startled her was what happened next.
jimin may or may not have rushed in front of her.
she had no idea why, but in a split second or so later, he was inches away from her, his body almost sticking to her hoodie and pajama bottoms. he could smell her; even after that run, she could still smell his shower gel, his cologne. she could even feel the spiciness of his breath.
this was jimin at his finest, inches away from her.
suddenly, his lips ghosted closer and closer towards his, and it was more like a dream now; a dream she nearly wasn't expecting to happen.
she closed her eyes again.
but what followed was, out of her own expectations, just the sound of the stove being turned off slowly.
she opened her eyes as the whistling stopped, but he was still there, inches away from her lips.
"your water's hot," he said instead, a mischievous smile creeping up his lips, "pervert."
her eyes widened. she felt her cheeks flush red, and she immediately hit him as he started laughing, a clear indication that the hit wasn't even strong enough to bother him.
damn it, girl, you have to stop letting him control your feelings. she knew how jimin was, being his ex-girlfriend, but she was girl nevertheless - and girls' emotions tend to fly around when jimin was around.
he was that powerful.
"what the hell!" she put her hands to her waist and hit him again. he was still laughing.
"sorry, sorry!" jimin was laughing as held up his arms in defeat, but that didn't stop seulgi from attacking him with her weak blows anyway. "i'm sorry!"
"you cocky son of a-"
"hey, hey! i said i was sorry!" seulgi stopped, but not before hitting him the last time. "sorry, that was funny, and you should've seen your face, and - yeah, sorry."
seulgi huffed and closed her eyes. "just when i thought i could take you seriously."
"hey, it was a joke."
"a bad one, to be honest." jimin still snickered, and seulgi still felt embarrassed enough to roll her eyes. "you're an asshole, you know that right?"
"yeah, your asshole." he winked, pouring her water in the cup of ramyeon for her. "that's fucked up. but there's your noodles for you. wait for them to cook."
he walks past her, touching her shoulder, and she just shakes her head.
"while you wait for that to cook," he began, and seulgi turned to him with another hopeful look on her face.
he only smiled that mischievous smile again, before saying, "you're welcome to join me in the shower."
and now with the sappy comments.
seulgi's eyes widened and almost slapped him dead. "what the-"
"No?" jimin ran to the bathroom door before seulgi could even slap him. "well, the offer still stands!" he called from the bathroom doorway.
"asshole!" she called back, trudging back to cup of noodles he had offered to cook for her.
"whatever you say, sweet cheeks!"
he isn't going to quit with the nicknames, is he? seulgi thought to herself again.
she stared down at the cup of uncooked ramyeon.
at least he was an asshole for her, right?
nope, she wasn't doing this again. if anything, she can't fall in love with park jimin anymore.
god, this was going to be a bumpy ass ride.
