the meltdown

I'm back! Yeah, and it's overwhelming!
I was under the spell of writer's block and finally, I'm back to writing with the help of my dear supporters and friends. Thank y'all. I owe you big time!!

"Man, I can't do it right now, but at least I tried," Gabriel whispers on his phone like he's some kinda detective. "I get it, but how is she gonna react?" his voice is too shallow to be heard even from nearby.

After some nods, Gabriel finally gave in. "I'll have to do that sooner or later. So better I do it now." He still hesitates, his voice trembling.  "Thanks, Sri Ram. I'll treat you in Aunt J's restaurant once I'm back to normal!"

And just like that, the phone call ended.

What's the secret he is been dreading confessing to Rinku?

It seems like I have to do some digging ;)

"Riri, morning!" He hugs Rinku from the back when she was having lunch at the dinner table. "Morning, sunshine!"

"Since we don't have school today, how about we two go on a small picnic?" Gabriel searches for words. "Like a break from the whole Havana thing?" He manages to make up something.

"Sure, why not? But on one condition, don't mention anything about What happened earlier?"

"Of course yes, Come on, I've packed all things!"

"What? You just now asked me Gabriel, what are you, some kinda magician?" Rinku asks as she dumps a cheese mac'n roll into her mouth.

"You ask so many questions, miss Venkat, " he tickles her and somehow makes her sit in the front seat of his car.

The ride was again filled with Taylor's songs until Rinku decided to play some of her favorite Songs from Tamil.

Rinku's scream could be heard by the aliens who live a thousand light years away from earth.

"Ennodu neee irundhal--"

She was shocked when Gabriel joined her. He was singing like he was fluent in speaking Tamil. He was perfect with the words. Even with the tunes!

"You know this song huh?" Her pupils widened and she was very much surprised. She even had this proud smirk on her face.

"Of course, I do, who doesn't?" He continued to focus on the road while Rinku was pondering like anything. "Wait, how did you know?"

"I listened to some- some- some Tamil songs to--" He was out of words. "To surprise you!"

"Really? you are amazing with the words. You should sing often," she pinched his cheeks and kisses him on the chin.

"Glad you are enjoying it," He dusted off the tension as if it was a dust and again for the nth time his focus was on the road as if he was thinking about something.

Finally, they reached the picnic spot where there were millions of families, happily chatting and enjoying their time together. But I should mention this, the majority of them were oldies.

"That spot would do," Gabriel said walking towards the spot which was near a big oak tree. It was at least  a hundred years old. There was this green thing all over it which seemed to be radiating chill breeze.

The scenery was breathtaking. Trees danced perfectly to the rhythm of the air which was filled with blooming periwinkle fragments. Gabe and Rinku sat under the bower wondering how the budding twigs spread their tender leaves to catch the breezy air.

"You are enjoying, aren't you?" Gabriel tweaked her softly while she was lying on his lap. "I am."

They lay like that for a while. But 'while' isn't the correct term to describe the time they spent nibbling on each other's ear and started kissing.

"I know it's not the time to tell this, I am gonna break this good time that we are having now," he whispered into her ears. After tying her hair into a ponytail, he made her slide into the oak tree,  as a support.

"What's bothering you, Gabriel?" Rinku finally let out. "You know, you can talk to me right?"

"Yes, I do."

"Then what, talk to me."

"It- it's"

"It's okay, you can take your time." Rinku patted him and made him hug her.

"Any trouble,
we are coming through as one,
you know I got your back in every way under the sun," she began to sing.,, Her soothing voice, everywhere.

"Girl, I'll be starin looking at you every single night, I just gotta let you know you brighten up my life." He united her and they commenced  humming laying on each other's chest peacefully.

"I'm ready," his smile widened and he seemed confident. Rinku's magic worked.

"That's my man," she said  messing up with his hair. "How many times have I told you not to?" He said fake crying.

"There's a thing which is similar to your situation and I'm afraid you'll be mad at me for not telling  you," his voice had this strange fear.  Fear of leaving.  Fear of his own self.

"I'm listening," she spoke out narrowing her brows. "Which situation? Is it like Havana's thing?"

He rejects.

"Missing your mum?" She said squeezing his hands. And again he nodded in rejection.

"Missing your best friend?"

"Nope,"

"Wanna kiss your girlfriend?"

"Yes!" His face lightened up. "I should be focused!"

"What's the matter? You are making me worried!"

"I'm switched!"

Those words. It made Rinku realise how much she had come across and how hard it would have been for Gabe to adapt cause it took her a while, whichever switch it may be. I mean Is he telling the truth?

"Which switch? Beh, your locker?" she turned away from him and began to pick up her stuffs.

"I'm serious," His veins bulged and he made Rinku to look into his eyes to indicate that he is not lying . "My whole body is switched!" He shouted .

Rinku understands that he's being serious and tightened her grip. Moreover she was startled by his shout.

"I've been switched two months before your switch." He was relieved. Even a toddler could see a glimpse of tear from his eyes.  The tear dam was about to break.

"Am I being pranked?" she rolled her eyes and continued her act from before.

"You are not. I'm Vikramaditya."

"What? Geez it is some sick prank! You are Gabriel Adriguez!" she squealed once again and added,  "Stop saying things,  Gabriel, "

"No, I'm not. Why would I lie to you?" He was very much tensed with what and how Rinku will react. "It's the truth, " H e seemed disappointed.

"Come here," she said Hugging him harder. This hug meant the song she just sang. She started crying and galloped hard.
"It must've been hard,"

He grabbed  her teary face and kissed her forehead. "I know and you made it better,"

"Why did this happen?"

"Same theory, I wished for and it was granted."

"It didn't matter whether you are Gabriel or Vikramaditya. What matters is that I love you," Rinku wiped her tears. "I love you, you are not alone in this ."

Gabriel's fear was just like that vanished. Into thin air, out of his heart. He broke out infront of her, tears lavishly falling from his eyes.

"How did I get so lucky?" He said placing his lips where it belonged. It was a gesture of gratitude,  understanding,  love and desire.

After minutes or even hours of kissing, Rinku finally spoke. "Can I see you?"

"You already are!" He teased her by pinching her sharp nose.

"No, I meant the real you." I mean she is confused man, how come she will believe you? It kind of sounds like a prank right? It does to me haha.

"Of course," he said taking his phone and searching for his photo.

Rinku's jaw fell open at the moment.

VIKRAMADITYA. That boy was smoking hot! With little facial hair here and there, He resembled the Indian version of the Disney prince. Any girl would drool over him. His hair was hazel and messy in the photo and Rinku thought how he'd look with a little combing. His dark black eyes were dark enough to look into others' thoughts. With a vintage jacket and varsity tee shirt, he was just perfect.

"Damn, that boy has some serious hot sauce!"

"Don't drool," He teased her with a little kiss on her neck.

"I won't believe you, you are making up images from Pinterest."

"What should I do to make you believe?"

"Show the real you!"

"This is me!" He squealed like a baby.

"Come on, he looks like a Disney prince," Rinku said out the thought of me. Damn.

"And that Disney prince is Vikramaditya. Your real life boyfriend,"

"I do believe that you are switched. But not this." Rinku says grabbing all the stuff and was about to stand up.

"Hello Vikram, have you confessed? What did She say? Did you guys break up? When are you coming back?" The voice from the phone showered with questions.

"Breakup? Seriously?" Rinku asked Gabriel, now Vikram. Giving the death stare.

"Ow, shit."

"Who is this, Gabriel?" Rinku wondered., Catching the phone from his hand

"That's Sri Ram. My best friend, from India."

"See, Sri. She's not believing me!" He complained like a little guy. Again. Cute to hell.

"Hi, Rinku! It's nice to meet you finally. I'm Sri Ram," the voice spoke. "And he was switched exactly on 5th March at midnight."

"Nobody asked you that," Gabriel said singing. "I'll be going now, call you later."

Umm please give her time to process man,  she is a child after all!

"Woah, so now this is real? That Disney prince is my boyfriend?" There was still this hesitation.

"Yes."

"I have so many questions."

"I know you do. But I'm very much happy that you aren't mad at me."

"Why should I be?"

"Cause, it took me so long to confess?"

"Of course not, at least you told me now."

"Yeah, I'm glad that I did." He said exhaling. Relief.

"I have so many questions." Rinku reiterated slapping her head. "But It'd be weird and nosy if I shower you with questions,"

"You can ask me about anything, love."

"Those were your words, not mine." She said straightening herself for the questioning session.

"Tell me about yourself,"

"I'm Vikram. Vikramaditya. I'm seventeen years old."

"That's it?"

He shrugs. "Come on Riri, you have to be specific!"

"Ok when we were in Vegas, you told me that you came here for your aunt's wedding, but We Indians won't go to Vegas for weddings, right?"

"That's the question that is bugging you?" He laughed. But soon that was gone, to an abyss filled with sorrow. "My mother and father were divorced when I was ten. My mom lives in Virginia. She is a doc," he cognites for breath.  As if it was a forbidden topic to talk about.

"It's okay Vikram," she hugged him as tears fall from his eyes. "I miss her, and that's why I wanted to come here."

"You could have told your father, right?"

"I told him. I begged him. I even threatened him but he won't give a shit' about me and my mom," he cried. A boy crying?  Once in a purple moon damn.

"It'll be alright, soon. Trust me."

"I didn't even have my mum's number. It's been seven fucking years since  she spoke to me!" He cried hard. He never swears, atleast not infront of Rinku. But now?

She let him to dry out so that he'll be soon alright.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked you about this, I'm so sorry." She pleaded while letting out large tears. She could get him.

"It's okay to break down sometimes," he assured himself. "That's what Rinu Kalyani Uthra told me," his masked smile was let out.

She smiled reassuringly. "Why won't we go and search for your mother, Vikram?" She asked plunging a piece of hope into his heart. "And don't ever call me that,"

"I will do," He chuckled. "Both,"

"We will," she said, placing a soft kiss on his cheek.

"Do you have any siblings?" She asked in between the kiss.

"I do, a little sister." A smile rised from his lips. "She'll be fifteen by now,"

"Sorry that I asked you these. I shouldn't have." she said placing her hands on his chiseled chest. "And that's why you cried in the wedding Avenue, you missed her. "

"I still do,"

"What's her name?"

"Ishita. She was just like my mother,"

"How can we find Ishita and your mum?"

"I'm going to Virginia this summer. They live in shallow falls." He said looking straight. "She must have forgotten me right, she was only eight back then,"

"I'm sure she remembers her handsome brother," she pinched his cheeks and they start to enjoy the moment.
