The Tsunami Sized Wave

tw: panic attack
"You slept with him?"
"You fucked Stanley Barber?" Dina gasped, leaning forward with a large grin on her face.
Pain spread from Primrose's heart throughout her body as she stared down at the table in front of her. She swallowed thickly, blinking away the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
She thought it was stupid to be crying over this. It wasn't like Stanley was her boyfriend, or anything. But she wanted him to be.. and he wanted Syd to be his girlfriend.
Primrose wondered if he would like her if she was less.. her. All in all, Primrose liked herself pretty well. But sometimes she wondered if she would have more friends if she wasn't so... strange.
She refused to change, though. She was who she was and she wasn't going to change that because of some bullies who tried to break her down. Because of some asshole ex who cheated on her. Becuase society told her she should. At least she had her friends, and the gods and goddesses on her side.
"Y-You don't have to keep repeating it." Syd said awkwardly, glancing at Primrose beside Dina. "Liam is right there."
Her expression had fallen from happiness to complete and utter emotionless as she leaned on her elbows.
"I'm sorry, I'm just processing! Prim, what do you have to say?" Dina asked excitedly. Primrose couldn't blame Dina. It's not like she knew that Primrose still had a crush on Stanley. After all, she hadn't mentioned the boy from the bowling alley since summer.
Primrose shrugged, silently looking from Dina to Syd before she settled her eyes back on the table. Primrose had never been much of a talker when she had been hurt. She found it took to much energy. Energy that she didn't have.
"So, how was it?"
"It was... great." Syd nodded, folding her hands together under the table, suddenly feeling a tsunami sized wave of guilt wash over her at the sight of Primrose.
She couldn't believe that while Primrose was out buying her family groceries, with her own hard saved money, she was fucking Stanley Barber. The bowling alley boy. "Re-Really.. I mean.. so good at going down on me. I was like woah."
"So you wanna hook up again?"
"One hundred percent." Syd lied, watching as Primrose's shoulders slumped further, if that were even possible.
Primrose sighed, "I'll... Uh, I'll be back.. Gotta use the bathroom."
Primrose quickly stood from the booth and rushed towards the bathroom.
Once the door shut behind her, she sank to the ground, leaning against the tiled walls. She inhaled sharply, letting the tears fall freely from her eyes as she pulled her knees to her chest.
Her heart felt like it was ripped from her chest and crushed in the hands of Oizys herself. She rested her head against the door of the bathroom as her cheeks became stained with hot salty tears. Primrose inhaled sharply, raking her hands through her hair as she cried. She squeezed her eyes shut as her ears began to ring.
Primrose's body fell to the floor as she covered her ears with her hands, trying to block out the increased ringing in her ears.
"Shit, shit, shit." Primrose muttered, inhaling deeply. Her heart ached with every beat, and she wasn't even sure why she was reacting this badly to Syd sleeping with Stanley, she had no reason for it to hurt this much.
It wasn't like it was back home. Syd didn't know for a fact that Primrose liked Stanley. It wasn't her fault. She she didn't know any better.
Primrose tried to rid herself of the memories of her previous relationship coming in tsunami sized waves.
The walls felt like they were closing in on her as she tried to disappear into the floor.
The sound of the door opening caused Primrose to startle and pull her face from her hands and look up.
"Primrose?" Dina's expression fell as she quickly crouched in front of her. "Hey, hey.. what happened?"
"I-I.. I don't know." Primrose shuddered, squeezing her eyes shut as she shook her head rapidly. "It's.. I'm sorry."
Dina watched with concern as Primrose made herself small, trembling on the bathroom floor of the diner.
"Hey, hey, hey.." Dina spoke softly, resisting the urge to touch her. She knew Primrose didn't like to be touched during these moments, it made her feel even more enclosed than she already felt. "Sh, it's just me. You're okay, you're okay, Prim."
"I-I.." Primrose stammered, rubbing her hands against the fabric of her dress. Dina frowned, Primrose told her about her ex the first time she had a panic attack, even if it wasn't because of him the first time.
It was her first ever boyfriend, and he wasn't a good person. He wasn't abusive or anything like that. He just wasn't good for Primrose.
He cheated on her once at a party, and she'd gotten over it. It had been over a year, after all. It was just the same situation that had just happened.
Primrose knew that it wasn't Syd's fault. She was convinced it wasn't her fault.
"Do you want me to do the grounding thing?" Dina asked softly, watching as Primrose nodded, burying her head in her face. "Okay. Apollo"
"Aph.. Aphrodite." Primrose her hair in between her fingers as she leaned her head against the wall.
"Ares." Dina whispered, slowly moving closer as she inched her hand towards Primrose's knee, waiting for her to become comfortable again.
"Artemis." Primrose replied, swallowing thickly as she blinked away the tears.
"Athena."
"Demeter."
"Dionysus."
"Hades."
"Hephaestus."
"Hera." Primrose's breathing had slowly started to even out again.
"Poseidon."
"Lady Tyche.."
"And Zeus... You feelin' any better?"
Primrose slowly lifted her face from her hands, wiping her cheeks as she blinked slowly at Dina. "I'm sorry.. I-I didn't mean to take you from Syd, lovely Dina."
Dina frowned, adjusting her position as she sat on the floor in front of her. "Syd's with her mom right now, something about a cat with diarrhea."
Primrose scrunched her face up, "Gross."
Dina chuckled, nodding her head. "It is gross, isn't it?"

"Syd?" Liam asked, looking up at his older sister. "Where did Stan go?"
Primrose stopped in her tracks momentarily, looking up from her phone and glancing at Syd.
"What do you mean?"
"You said Stan was going somewhere." Liam asked, turning his head to Primrose. "Do you know?"
"Uh.. No, I don't, my little Liam." Primrose shook her head, swiping her thumb across the screen.
"No, I really didn't." Syd laughed nervously.
"I think you did." Primrose murmured, not audible to the two she walked with.
Primrose did not want to be walking with them right now. She'd rather be hanging out with Santa at home.
"You told Dina and Prim that Stan was going down somewhere.. and that he was really good at it."
"Yup. Uh, he's, um, going down south to Mexico." Syd lied. "And he's really good at it.. 'cause.. uh, cause he's a really good.. um, traveler. Yeah. He's a very efficient packer."
"That's cool! There he is now."
Primrose sighed at the familiar music playing as Stanley's car came to a stop beside them.
"Oh, yeah.. Heh."
She blinked, sliding her phone into her bag as Stanley rolled the window of the car down.
"What's he doing?"
"Just wait."
"Hey.." Stanley greeted, grinning at Primrose and Sydney.
"Hey."
"Hm." Primrose crossed her arms, looking down at her feet.
"Hi!"
"Hi. So, it's good to see you both again."
"Yeah.. Yeah, you too." Syd nodded awkwardly.
"So, do you wanna... uh, do either of you wanna, like, do something.. later tonight?"
"You know, I would, but Dina and I are going to Ricky Berry's party." Syd's voice came out strained as she looked over at Primrose, who still had her eyes cast towards the ground.
"No shit? I'll be there too."
Primrose sighed, walking off wordlessly towards the direction of her house. Stanley frowned, worry over coming him as he leaned his head out the window. "Is Primrose okay? She looks sad, and I-I.. I don't like it."
"Are you stupid?"
"Liam!" Syd scolded. "Seriously?"
