Han Solo part two

"I don't think this looks right," George commented as he inspected the files up close.

"Cristina is dyslexic," Lexie began.  "But she got straight A's all during med school and she has a PhD.  It's pretty amazing.  Eight letters of recommendation in her file."

"Does this look right?  Is this how it was when you found it?" He asked her, trying not to listen.

"Izzie went to college at night.  It took her six years to graduate and she volunteered as a candy striper.  Patient's wrote her letter of rec."

"We gotta get out of here before someone catches us," George told her as he was freaking out as he accidentally dropped a bowl of thumb tack's and they hurried to put them all back in.

"And Alex.  He wrote this essay to get in.  This moving, beautiful essay about how his grades weren't that good during med school because he was suffering from testicular cancer."

"Ow," George exclaimed as he bumped his head under the table.  "What?"

"He said he lost a ball," Lexie told George and he gasped.  "But I've seen him naked!  He has two tangerines, George.  Two couch potatoes.  He lied.  He's a liar!"

"Stop telling me information I don't want to know," George told Lexie."

"One point, George.  Just one point," Lexie spoke fast and upset for her best friend.  "How can they keep you back for one point?"

"Just forget about it!"

"Photographic memory," she yelled back quietly.  "I can't."

The paramedic pulled another big piece of cement off of Andrew's arm as Doctor Webber came up to talk to the group as another being pulled off his chest.

"Ready to begin," he told them.

"Wait," Andrew lifted his head up to ask Callie.  "Lola?"

"Uh, I couldn't find her," she lied through her teeth to him and she made eye contact with Alison.  That's when Alison knew and her heart broke for this young man.  She didn't want to come.  For whatever reason.  "She went to eat or something."

"Okay," Richard began to talk to Andrew.  "Now you are going to feel some pressure."

"She just didn't want to come," Andrew says in a little bit of pain.  "Right?  Lola likes to hang out with me.  Or she did.  Used to.  Before I did this," he said as Callie held his hand.  "Once she almost - there could've been a kiss but I chickened out."

"You don't need to be kissing her," Callie told him and he strongly disagreed.

"N-no, I do.  I do, I do.  My whole life is about kissing her."

"Catheter is in," Miranda told the group and Andrew.

"Guys they are on their last piece of cement," Mark told everyone as they watched and he lifted it off.

"Oh thank God.  The hard part is over," he said as he laughed awkwardly.  "The hard part is over, right?" He asked.

"Yang, get the crash cart ready," Richard told Cristina and she did.

"Alright and I've got calcium and insulin ready," Erica told the group.

"The hard part is over?" Andrew asked nervous as everyone remained quiet.

"Okay, um, there is a chance that when the nice gentlemen take off that last piece of cement there on your abdomen the toxins that have been building up underneath the concrete will rush to your heart and you'll crash.  Your heart will stop and you'll stop breathing.  But there's no need to make that face because we will restart your heart and put in a tube and will rush you back to the OR.  We are good at what we do.  Just if you see the warm, welcoming light do not go into it," Miranda tells him.

"Let's go," Mark tells the group.

"Alright.  We're going to do this on three.  One.  Two.  Three," Richard says and they lift the final piece of cement and Andrew gives out.  "There he goes."

"Clear the airway," Mark says as he holds his upper body and lifts him with the help of the other men.

They began performing CPR on Andrew.

"This one is almost bandaged and then I'm going to move onto the other one, okay?" Alex told Rebecca as she lay in the hospital bed.

"Okay," she replied quietly.

"I prescribed her alprazolam and clonazepam.  Psych will be down within an hour but I thought it would be good to have something to keep her calm until they get here," Izzie told Alex and she spoke with confidence, knowing Doctor Anderson would be proud of her too as well as Doctor Bailey.

"She doesn't need any drugs or any psych," Alex told Izzie, not appreciating the help and also not realizing the seriousness of this situation.  It was out of his control now.  He then got up from his chair and Izzie followed him.

"She needs a psych consult and be admitted," Izzie told him sternly.

"I'm not admitting her."

"Your not taking her home," Izzie shook her head.

"I was watching her every minute until you called."

"You shouldn't have to watch her every minute.  You're not on today.  So she was admitted under my name which means I get to decide the treatment plan.  She needs to be put on a hold."

"Damnit would you leave us alone you stupid bitch?" He raised his voice at Izzie and used the same wording with her as he did with Alison.

Izzie then realized in that moment those were the words that Alex used on her and she left.  The words that made her feel like she wasn't good enough.

*

"You're supposed to be sitting down," Mark told Callie as he entered the scrub room.  "That's what breaks are for.  "You've had your feet up for nine hours.  Rest your legs."

"Shouldn't you be telling this to your girlfriend, Alison?" Callie asked as she watched Erica in surgery.

"I would but she's kind of busy saving his life," he says with a proud smile on his face and a nod in their direction.  "It's inappropriate don't you think?  Thinking about sex during surgery.  I'm just saying what I have been witnessing all day."

"That poor kid," Callie said, crossing her arms.  "His entire body encased in cement.  His legs were crushed.  The vessels and nerves nearly cut off completely and still I was turned on.  This entire time I've been turned on because of you and your dirty talk."

"It wasn't my dirty talk," Mark tells his person.  "What I was dirty talking about."

"What?" Callie let out a little laugh.

"Erica.  You and Erica," he specified.

"N-no," she scoffed and shook her head.

"Callie," Mark tried to reason with her.

"What?"

"It's okay," he told her.  "You should be happy with someone the way I am with Alison.  You should be that someone that they think about too.  Even if it is with someone like Erica.  Speaking of -" he took out the ring from his scrubs pocket and opened it to show Callie and she widened her eyes.

"Wow, you're going to propose to her?"

"I am," he nodded his head with a proud smile.  "I don't think I've ever been so nervous in my entire life for anything as I am for tonight."

"Don't be," Callie grinned at him, happy for her two best friends.  "She's going to say yes and that's a beautiful ring.  And I'm sorry.  For earlier.  I should have stayed out of it."

"I get it and Alison gets it," he shrugged his shoulders and put the box with the ring inside back in his pocket.  "No hard feelings."

"Damn," Callie said shaking her head with a big smile on her face.  "I can't believe my two best friends are getting engaged."

"She hasn't said yes yet," he told her not wanting to jinx anything but still wearing a smile on his face.

"She will.  Trust me."

*

Lexie found George after she had been looking for him as he watching the surgery on the cement boy.  She took a seat next to him.

"You had fourteen letters of recommendation."

He took a seat three seats over and she followed him as she sat next to him but he ignored her, still pissed at her for reading his file.

"Cristina had eight.  Meredith had four.  Izzie had ten.  You had fourteen.  And the words that they used to describe you, nobody had recommendations like yours.  People said the others were smart.  They said that they were hard workers, that they were good.  But your letters - they said you were great.  They spoke of your kindness,  your attention to detail.  They talked about how hard you tried and that you never give up.  They painted a picture of the kind of doctor that I hope to become," Lexie told him honestly.  "It was an honor to read those letters because now I know what separates you from the others isn't one stupid point.  What separates you from the others is greatness.  So don't you dare let one point hold you back," she told him and left.

*

"Where are we?" Miranda asked as she came back into the OR.

"Sloan, Hahn, Torres and Anderson are all done," Richard told her.

"We just unclamped the portal vein.  Blood flow is good to the liver.  Uh, right, chief?" Cristina asked to make sure.

"Absolutely right," he nodded his head at her.  "Good job."

*

"Alison," Erica called out her name but she ignored her and kept on walking.  "Alison-"

Alison finally had enough as she stopped walking and turned around briskly.  She had enough of Doctor Hahn for one day.  She just wanted to get away for the weekend already with Mark.

"What?" She raised her voice and Erica could see the redness in Alison's eyes and the tiredness.  "My God, it's like you don't get it!  You don't get to just treat me like shit in front of everyone and in front of our patient and then think everything is okay afterwards.  In case you forgot as a pediatrician there is no set age for me to see patients, especially if they have something that was congenital.  But I do still see patients eighteen to twenty-one.  And you know the crazy thing," she let out a tired laugh.  "I was actually more help in that room today than you were.  And don't even get me started on the way you treated Cristina today.  Just leave me the hell alone," she shook her head and brought her hand up to her head in annoyance before releasing down to her side and left.

*

"Yang flew solo," Richard told Erica as he closed the door behind them.  "You should be celebrating because that means that you're doing job.  Teaching her how to save a life.  Residents are like puppies.  Eager and enthusiastic and you need to learn how to teach without crushing their spirit.  I also didn't like how you talked down to Doctor Anderson today.  She is in her fellowship year as a pediatrician.  What she did today for that boy, was amazing.  You should be proud of her today too.  Instead, you treated those two worse than children today.  Doctor Anderson was trained under one of the best," he said in reference to Addison.  "Now, you want to work here, with my residents and surgeons then you need to do better.  You need to be a better teacher.  A better coworker.  Because you all are a team."

Instead of saying anything back, Erica gets her things and leaves but not before looking at Cristina and for the first time, Cristina looks kind of afraid and avoids eye contact, then she leaves.

"Don't make me regret backing you up," Richard tells Cristina and she turns to look at him.

"No sir," she tells him.  "Absolutely not, sir.  Thank you, sir."

"Puppies," Richard muttered and left.

*

Alison wasn't sure if she was annoyed or happy.  This was not how she wanted to celebrate their one year anniversary.  She had been sick off and on today and her boobs were so incredibly sore.  Not only were her boobs sore and felt heavy, but she was still feeling sick off and on today.  She didn't tell Mark because she wanted to help this man who was stuck in cement.

"How long?" Derek asked his best friend and she looked at him confused.

"How long what?"

"How long have you been pregnant?"

"What makes you think I'm pregnant?" Alison chuckled lightly but then stopped when she realized he wasn't buying her lie.  "I, uh- found out today.  This afternoon in fact.  Izzie helped me.  I'm around kids and babies all day, Derek, and the symptoms I was having started adding up.  I think I knew all along that it wasn't just the flu or being sick."

Derek had a big smile on his face as his deep blue eyes that she loved so much sparkled.

"Wow," he marveled at his best friend.  "My best friend is going to be a mom."

"I am," she replied, starting to get choked up and wiped the tears from her eyes before they could fall.

Derek brought her in for a hug and they laughed and cried as they reminisced about how she had thought about this day years ago.

"Look at us," Alison grinned.  "You and Meredith with your medical break through with the trial finally working.  And me becoming a mom."

"We're not in the clear yet.  She still needs to wake up.  I think this is what they call adulting," Derek said and Alison let out a laugh.

"Promise me something?" Alison asked her person as they were now out of their embrace and he looked at her.  "Promise me that you'll fight for Meredith?  You aren't happy with Rose.  I can see it.  Mark can.  Hell, I think even Rose can see it.  She's just too afraid to lose you that she will settle for whatever.  I think the only person who doesn't want to see it is you.  But Derek, you deserve happiness too.  Especially after everything you've gone through.  Fight for her.  Don't let her be the one who got away.  Oh and don't sell your land."

*

"Have a good weekend," Lexie tells her best friend and Mark as she hugs her.

"Thanks, Lex," she gives her a squeeze and then let go.  "You too, okay?  I'll tell you all about it when we get back."

"We gotta go now if we want to make our reservations," Mark tells his girlfriend anxiously and Alison laughs.

"Funny.  I used to be the timely one in our relationship."

Lexie laughs and waves at the couple as they walk off and she goes to Cristina after she paged her.

"You paged, Doctor Yang?" Lexie asked cautiously as she watched Cristina listening to music and she opened up her eyes.

"Grab that banana from my cubby," she tells the intern.

"You want me to peel it for you?" she asks her, unsure.

"No, I want you to learn the running whip stitch," she tells her intern.  "I'm going to teach it to you.  Get a needle."

Alison and Mark saw Callie on their way out and walked out with her.

"Finish what you start," Mark told Callie when they saw Erica.

Though Alison wasn't a big fan of Erica, she wanted her best friend to be happy.  And if that meant being happy with someone she didn't particularly like at the moment, then so be it.

"Have a good night," Alison said in a sing song voice and held hands with Mark as they left.

*

"Charts," Derek asks a nurse at the desk and she hands them to him.  "Thank you."

He then hears cries from the mother of his patient and turns to look at them, not sure if they are happy or sad tears, he goes in to check on his patient.

"Hi," he greets her as she had slowly opened her eyes.

"Hey," she says quietly.

"You're alive."

"Yeah, I'm alive," she tells her and lifts her right arm as her parents stare in shock and puts her hand in his.  "Not just for show anymore."

"No," he smiles.

*

"Where are you taking me?" Alison asked her boyfriend of one year.

He wouldn't tell her all day what he had planned for their one year anniversary because he didn't want anything to jinx it.  She had been pestering Derek all day but he wouldn't budge.  He just wore a smile on his face and would say something along the lines of "you'll have to wait and see but you are going to love it."  Alison let out a huff and crossed her arms over her chest as Mark wore his signature smirk, liking the fact that this was all getting to Alison.  He was nervous but Derek gave him a pep talk before he left and told him everything that he needed to hear.

"Just a little longer, I promise, sweetheart," he told her and she cuddled into his side and she could smell his cologne that she had bought him more of as well as a new one as the limo finally came to a stop.

Alison received a text message as she opened up her phone and saw that it was from Derek.

Derek: she's awake.  Have a great weekend!

Alison: I knew it.  See.  Have hope and everything will work itself out.  Love you, Derek.

"Derek and Meredith's last patient today woke up, Mark," she exclaimed, happy for her person.  "The trial worked!"

"That's great," he smiled at her and his smile got even bigger when their car came to a stop.  "We're here."

They had to check in first to their room and it was perfect since they both needed to freshen up anyway and change clothes.  When they stepped out, their driver holding Alison's hand to help her out, she thanked him and waited for Mark as she stared at the hotel in amazement.

"You got a room at The Edgewater?" She asked her boyfriend.

"Yeah," he rubbed the back of his neck, feeling self-conscious slightly as his cheeks turned a slightly flush, which was uncharacteristic of him, but Alison thought it made him look cute.  "Is that okay?"

"More than okay," she walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his middle.  "It's amazing!  Thank you."

They had made a promise months ago that when they would go out on dates, they wouldn't talk about work.  It was hard at first but then they got used to it.  By doing this, it allowed them to really focus on them and their relationship.  It helped to separate work from their relationship.

The first thing they had done was going up to the Space Needle after they both went to ãnanya spa where they both had organic oxygen facials and afterwards her esthetician applied makeup on her.  She ended up buying a few skincare products and makeup that she needed and they were off.  He knew that seeing the Space Needle was something Alison had always wanted to do but never found any time to be able to.  They made sure to document their trip.  They had never felt more like tourists then they did on the Space Needle but it was such a cool experience that neither cared.

Afterwards, the couple ate at The Pink Door, where Mark had made reservations.  They decided to eat inside since it was a bit chilly outside with the wind.  Alison's hair was down in soft wavy curls and she was wearing a little black dress with her black heels that she loved.  It helped that Mark knew the owner, Jackie Roberts.  She had actually been a patient of his once and told him to stop by the place anytime.  The place was charming and he knew that Alison would love it as the food was Italian-American.

"Anything I can start you two off with drinks?" Their waiter asked.

"Yeah, can we get the Verdeca?" Mark asked and Alison raised an eyebrow and smiled at her boyfriend.

"Of course," he nodded his head.  "That's our best seller and it is rich aromas of melon and apple meld with white blossoms.  It has apricot skins and pineapple, while a gentle grip of white tea and tangy acidity as well."

"Perfect," Mark replied with a charming smile.

"Thank you," Alison told him as he also poured them water and then left to go fetch the wine, then bringing it back minutes later with wine glasses.

"Here's to our anniversary.  Happy anniversary, sweetheart, and hopefully to many more," he said as he held his wine glass up and she clinked hers with his.

"Happy anniversary, Mark.  I love you," she replied as she switched to water instead.  He didn't think anything of it though.

He took a sip and then another after deciding it was actually really good.

"I love you too," he smiled at her as they then looked over the menu and their waiter returned.

"Are you two ready?" He asked and they nodded their heads.  "What can I get you guys?" He asked looking at Alison first.

"I'll take the risotto please.  Thanks," Alison thanked the waiter and couldn't wait to eat her dinner.  It was don and joe's sausage, radicchio, rosemary and aged balsamico.

"I'll have the pappardelle al ragü bolognese.  Thanks man," Mark told the waiter also handing his menu to the waiter.  He got the slow-simmered meat sauce, fresh pasta.

"I'm glad we could get away for the weekend," Alison told Mark as she sipped on the water and ate the bread as she dipped it in the oil that their waiter brought to them.

"I am too," Mark nodded his head, eating the bread as well.  In reality, Richard didn't even put up a fight with having both of them gone.  Mark had told her he was going to propose to Alison this weekend and Richard said his congratulations.  He loved Alison and had grown to like Mark.  But he did warn Mark if someone did come in that was an extreme emergency only then would he call Mark, to which the plastic surgeon agreed.

"You know, I got a text from Katie earlier at work today.  Sent me a picture of Aubrey."

"How are they doing?" Mark asked as he genuinely had a good relationship with both of Alison's brothers, even though there was a big age difference between the three men.

"Really good, yeah.  She's smiling and cooing most of the time, if not all.  I still can't believe we went up to the Space Needle," she shakes her head with a smile on her face.  "I have to say it was a lot cooler in person."

"It was, wasn't it?" He grinned back as they continued eating their dinner after their waiter brought it a few minutes ago.  "Wherever you want to go, I'll go with you.  Just name it."

"Anywhere, hmm?" She put a finger on her chin as if she were thinking hard but he knew she was just joking.  "What if I wanted to go to Austria?"

"Done.  What made you think of Austria?"

"It's a place that's very dear to my heart," she told him.  "I can't believe I've never told you this before but every couple of years my family and I would always go there for a vacation.  There's just something so magical about the country.  It's like I can truly breathe there.  You know?  Where would your dream vacation be?" She asked him and he had to think about it.

"Australia," he tells her with a grin after eating a bite of his dinner and offering her a piece to which she accepted.  "Good, right?"

"Yeah," she nodded her head and swallowed the food.  "Want some of mine?" He nodded his head and she put some of hers on his plate and he tried it.  "Australia would be fun.  I love Kangaroos and Koala Bears."

"Not bad.  The food here is great."

"It really is.  Thank you for today, Mark.  I really needed it after the crazy day we had."

"You're welcome.  I just knew that I wanted us to celebrate our first anniversary as a couple because I knew it would be special."

"Well, you definitely succeeded," she smiled at him and put her foot on his and raised her foot on his pant leg slightly.

"Sweetheart," he moved uncomfortably for a second and she giggled lightly.  "You don't want to start what you can't finish right now and I'd rather wait until we get back to our room."

"Okay," she let out a huff as she was joking and he gave her a look.

"I don't know what to get," Alison told him as they glanced at the dessert menu.  Dinner was delicious and they had just finished it, but they knew they wanted a dessert to finish.  "They all just look so good."

"What if you get one and I get one and we split them?" Mark asked and she nodded her head with a smile.

"That sounds good.  What were you thinking?"

"I was thinking the apple cake," he told her and she noticed that it was layered with bourbon brown sugar buttercream frosting.  "What were you thinking?"

"I was actually thinking between the apple cake and the pumpkin pecan blond brownie," which was made of maple brown butter sauce and salted maple semifreddo.  "I'll get that."

The couple had finished dinner and everything was heavenly to her.  They were walking along the bay when he stopped and took a deep breath.  It was a little chilly tonight, but it was perfect weather.  Before they left, Mark bought two bottles of the wine for them to have because he loved it so much.

"You okay?" Alison asked as he just abruptly stopped walking.

"You found me," Mark told her as he grabbed her hand.  "The real me."

"We found each other," she told him as she squeezed his hand reassuring him as she gave him a small smile.

"The thing is, I used to be afraid.  If I showed this side to anyone, being vulnerable, it would get me nowhere except being hurt.  I know now that I was wrong.  Alison, you've put up with so much shit for me, including the time when I turned your favorite white shirts pink because I didn't know how to do laundry," he told her and she laughed at the memory.  She was pissed at the time.  "It used to be just me but now - I can't imagine you not in my life.  You have changed me Alison Marie Anderson, for the better.  I love you Ali," he told her as he got down on one knee and Alison was shocked as she brought her right hand to her mouth, not expecting this at all.  Sure they had talked about getting married but she never knew when he would.  "Will you marry me?"

"Yes," she nodded her head and let the tears fall down her cheeks as he slipped the ring on her left ring finger.  "Oh my God, yes!"  They could hear clapping from people around them but they didn't seem to care as she lowered to his height on the ground and kissed him.

*

"I'm retaking my intern test," George tells Lexie as he comes through their apartment door.

"Oh my God," she gets excited and gets up from her chair.

"Lexie, I know I was mad before.  But thank you, thank you, thank you," he tells her as grabs her face gently and kisses her.  "Thank you!  Get out the liquor because we are celebrating."

The weekend couldn't be over fast enough.  She needed to talk to Alison.

*

"Meredith?" Derek calls out to her in his trailer, thinking she's there.

He walks out and then spots a light.  Lots of them.  Almost like they are candles and walks over to it.

"Stupid, idiotic.  Stupid, loser," Meredith mutters to herself.  "Son of a.  I could be at home instead."

"Meredith."

"Where have you been?" She yells to him from the distance.  "I've been waiting and waiting for you.  And I did this stupid, embarrassing, humiliating, corny thing.  And I was just going to tell you that this over here is our kitchen.  This is our living room," she points to another room.  "And over there that's the room where our kids can play.  And Alison and Mark's kids if they ever have any.  We can have play dates.  I had this whole thing about how I was going to build us a house but I don't build houses because I'm a surgeon.  Now I'm here feeling like a lame ass loser.  I got all whole and healed and you don't show up.  And now it's all ruined because you took so long to come home.  And I couldn't even find that bottle of champagne."

He holds it up and she looks at it as he walks towards her.

"This is the kitchen?" He asks her.  "Living room.  A little small.  The views much better from here.  That's the room where the kids are going to play?  And Mark and Alison's future kids come over?  Where's our bedroom?"

"I'm still mad at you," she tells him as she points her finger at him.  "And I don't know if I trust you.  I want to trust you but I don't know if I do.  So I'm just going to try.  I'm going to try and try to trust you because I believe that you and I can be extraordinary together rather than ordinary apart and I wanna be-"

He cuts her off by kissing her.

"I have to go," he says breaking their kiss before it turns into something more.

"What?"

"I want to kiss you.  You want to kiss me.  In order to do more than kiss you, I need to speak to Rose.  I want my conscious to be clear so that I can do more than kiss you.  Stay here.  Don't move.  Wait for me," he smiles big at her as he walks backward.

*

"Mark -" Alison put her hand on his chest to create some distance between the two of them after he was placing kisses down her neck.  "Wait."

"Yeah?" He looked down at her as his forehead lines showed slightly.

"I need to tell you something," she said wringing her hands together as the nerves in her stomach started to bubble up.  "I'm pregnant."

"Holy smokes," he exclaimed with his eyes widening and he glanced down at her stomach and then put his large hand on it.  "You sure?"

"Pretty sure," Alison nodded her head.  "Izzie did a test on me today.  It's confirmed," she chuckled nervously.

"We're having a baby," he commented and kissed her with so much passion as he led her to the bed as she let out a happy squeal.

--

phew, that's over!  5,000 + words later and that was just for part two!  To those who guessed it right - CONGRATS!  Below is a pic of the ring.

QUESTION!!  Do you want Mark to be the father of Callie's baby?  If yes, would you be okay if it happened sooner rather than in season 7?

I didn't come up with these but what do you think about these unpopular opinions?  I think there is some truth to them.

unpopular opinion: lexie and mark weren't meant to be together.  the only reason why people ended up liking them was because they were killed and they forgot that lexie kept on leaving mark.

no hate on lexie!  she's one of my favorites.  but i don't think they were my favorite couple.

also unpopular opinion: how cute would it have been if she and george dated?

ALSO: did anyone call these two surprises?  If so you guys are awesome!!  I left a couple hints in previous chapters and wondered if anyone discovered them.  Does anyone else think that Mark and Alison are Rapunzel and Flynn?
