Atlas entered a patients room not long after he got to work. He had helped Derek sneak out of his house before his siblings woke up, of course his parents noticed—would they say anything?—yes, yes they would, they just haven't yet.
"Good morning." Atlas greets the room, not talking to anyone particular.
Alex leans down to the whisper to the patient, "Annie, this is Doctor. Lee—Sunny. Awesome surgeon."
"Doctor. Karev." Miranda or as everyone calls her—Bailey, scolds.
"Psh, Bails. I got this." Atlas slightly moves Alex away from the patient and throws his arm over his shoulder. "What did I say about suckin' up?"
"To not do it."
"Good good. And you just did it right?"
"No."
"Ha. You just lied. Well, I guess some scut tomorrow will do you go. No go present."
Atlas hated people sucking up to him. He felt that if they were really worth the time, they would tell him the cold hard truth he needed—like Christina. She didn't suck up, and told Atlas the cold hard truth. That's why he liked her out of the interns the best (not including his siblings!) because if Atlas fucked up, Christina didn't hesitate to get on his ass for it. Yes—they had only worked two cases together, and yes, those to cases were slightly boring and Atlas let Christina do a few stitched here and there. And why? Because she was exactly like him when he started his own internship. Kinda cold, ruthless, full of ambition, and a glimmer in the eye when the heart rolled around.
Maybe that was why he didn't like Alex. He didn't have that glimmer yet. No passion for any specialty yet. He just wanted to be a surgeon—a butcher. Or maybe the reason he didn't like Alex, was because he sucked up and was an asshole to everyone. But hey, Atlas would tell anyone who sucked up that if they were gonna suck up, to at least buy him coffee.
"Annie Connors is a 43-year-old woman who presented last night with progressive shortness of breath for the past three months. Found to have a very large tumor of unknown origin pressed against her diaphragm. Stable vital signs. Scheduled for CT this morning." Alex presents the case to the doctors.
"Yeah, yeah. Thank you, Dr. Karev." Atlas says to the intern before turning to Annie. "Are you at all claustrophobic?"
"I've been housebound for the last year. How claustrophobic could I be?" Annie says, her voice slightly playful.
"All right then. Doctor. Stevens is going to take you up for a CT. It'll give us a better look at the tumor, and we'll know how to proceed." Doctor Burke says, he was observing and told not to comment which would definitely get a reaction out of Atlas—who was the lead cardio surgeon on the case.
"Could someone tell my mom? She'll worry if she gets back and I'm not here." Annie ask Atlas who nods and smiles.
"Yeah, of course. Of course."
"And would it be possible for Alex to take me instead? I mean, he...He's just so fun to look at." She wasn't wrong, if Atlas wasn't hopelessly falling for Derek Shepherd than he would have definitely done a slight more glancing at the hot intern. But in all honesty, Atlas found Derek 110% more handsome, hot, prettier looking than Alex.
"Annie." Alex laughs, acting like he's embarrassed. (he wasn't)
"Sure. Sure, Ms. Connors. Excuse me." Atlas says as he exited the room, Derek and Bailey following behind.
The three enter the elevator alone. Atlas can't help but think Bailey could murder him right then and there with her bare hands because she had seen him practically getting all steamy with his co-worker—his boyfriend. Atlas would never get used to the boyfriend part. It gave him butterflies everyone he thought or said it.
"Miranda." Derek starts.
Oh how Derek was in trouble.
"Excuse me?" Bailey moves her short body around so she can see the neuro surgeon face to face.
"Well, that's your name, right? It's on your jacket." — Derek receives a look —"All right, fine. I'll just call you Bailey then."
"You think you're charming in that talented, neurotic, overly moussed hair sort of way, good for you. But if you think I'm going to stand back and watch while you favor them..." Bailey looks smug as she talks.
Derek had been favouring the Lee-Sunny twins! without Atlas knowing. of course Atlas didn't care much, his siblings were good, even great doctors, and he wasn't responsible for them...all the time.
"And you." Bailey points a finger at Atlas, catching the day dreaming mans attention.
"Yes, Bails?"
"My name is not Bails."
"It is now, Bails!" Atlas cheered as the elevator door opened and he patted her shoulder before striding out. Atlas sent his boyfriend (he still couldn't even think about saying his boyfriend without a blush coating his cheeks)
"I don't favor them. They're good." Derek says once his boyfriend was out of hearing range.
"I'm sure they are."
The elevator door opens once again and Bailey gets out.
"You know, can I point out that, technically, I'm your boss?" Derek says once the resident exited the elevator.
"You don't scare me. Look, I'm not going to advertise your extracurricular activities with other boss. However, the next time I see you favoring the Lee-Sunny twins in any way, I'll make sure they doesn't see the inside of on OR for a month. Just for the sake of balance. I'll even kick Atlas out too." Bailey threatens, and Derek can't help but chucked. But when Bailey sends him a glare he snaps his mouth shut and looks away.

Atlas stands, operating on Annie.
"We need to hang another bag of O-neg." a nurse that goes by the name Venus Aster Bardot says, her voice sounding like sweet candy. A cardio nurse who had been working side by side with Atlas and had talked to the intern group on a few occasions.
"Cauterizing the small bleeders to keep my visual field clean." Atlas tells the three interns, George, Christina and Oliver, everyone else having some other surgery or patient to be occupied with.
George looks over to Cristina and Oliver, "God, is your back killing you?" He whispers, but Atlas catches it.
"George, shut up. We're in here." Christina says before Atlas can say anything. Atlas smiles under his mask like a proud mother.
"Look at the size of this artery." Bailey points out, "My God. It's as thick as a thumb. You ever seen a vessel this size?" She continues.
"No. This thing's just feeding on all her blood. Sorry Bails." Atlas dismissed the enthusiastic resident.
"We need more O-negative." Bailey and Atlas say, at the same time.
"I'll call the blood bank." Venus says, going over towards the phone so she can call for more blood.
George fucks up and stretches also dropping the tumor.
"Fuck—shit—damnit, um, O'Malley. Do you want me to kill this patient?" Atlas stutters out a few words, not wanting to swear in the OR.
"No, I—sorry."
"Is retracting just too much for you? Do you need to switch? Because I'm pretty sure someone else can?" Atlas starts off mean, but ends up questioning the intern softly.
"No, I was, uh...um...I had an itch." George mutters.
"How's it going?" Derek asks as he enters the OR.
"It's more intertwined than the studies made it look." Burke says, he had been stains off to the side for a while, just observing.
"Hang another bag, call the blood bank. We need more O-negative." Bailey commands, her voice raising.
"They're down 10 units of blood and haven't even flipped her yet."
"Oh, wow. Look at that. Now how am I supposed to get around that artery? All right, then. Forceps." Derek holds his hands out for the surgical tool.
"Never a dull moment here at Seattle Grace."
"People here call you mcdreamy." Atlas tells his boyfriend, having heard them talking about Derek Shepherd, or mcdreamy.
"Is that——" Derek goes to reply but a blood vessel burst, squirting blood all over himself and Bailey.
"Oh!" Derek gasps.
"Oh, my God.
"Get right in there." Derek tells the surgeons, directed towards the interns, residents and attendings.
"She can't afford to lose this much blood. We need more blood." Said Bailey, the resident looking towards Venus, who only nods and moves towards the phone once again.
"Get me some suction here. I can't see what I'm doing. Clamp, clamp, clamp, please. Is there any blood in the rapid infuser?" Derek panics.
"We're waiting on two units." Venus says, her hand placing the phone back on the holder.
"What do you mean, waiting?" He snaps, the realizes what he had down and sent Venus a look with his eyes that said I'm sorry!
"Well, we didn't anticipate this much blood loss."
"They're on their way." The cardio nurse, Venus says.
"We prepped a double supply. We've used it all." Bailey tells the attendings. More Derek who's visibly freaking out.
Atlas steps away from the operating table, his hands just getting in the way of Derek and Bailey working. A few minutes more of the surgery pass before Annie starts to flatline.
"We're losing her now. Look at this. Look at his. Come on." Derek starts CPR.
"Oh, come on! Come on! Come on!" Derek groans frustrated.
"Time of death is 11:42." Atlas announces as he slowly and calmly pulls Derek away from Annie, holding him in his arms.
