Small speckles of frost lined along the edge of her eyelashes. Light breaths escaped the cracks of her lips as she walked in a slow pace.
Laughing children and parents gathered along the edges of the small dome. Each lined perfectly beside one another, hand in hand.
Erna stood alone, her fingers tugging away at the ends of her hair with annoyance. The loudness of laughter slammed into her eardrums when she fell.
Her bottom grew cold from the ice beneath her small frame. A group of rather obnoxious teenage boys skated towards her laughing.
They claimed no words, only laughed. Jabbing there fingers into her soul as they left. She sneered angrily as she stood up, all she saw was red.
It was like a moment of silence, everything around her faded away and she was utterly alone. She blinked the bottoms of her feet bare and cold.
She looked at her hands, clumps of blood lining them the skate beneath her feet heaved forward with anticipation. It slowed at the bottom of the dome, where it bumped into a body.
A boy held himself tightly, blood staining his face as he looked up at her with horror. "What the hell are you!" his voice cracked as he cried out.
She heard the screaming now, the moment of silence now gone. People all around her screamed in horror at the sight before them.
The once group of teenage boys all laid on the floor, crying as they held onto there bleeding limps. She honestly still doesn't remember what happened.
Just that this incident is what got her into Nevermore and she would remain there for years.
—
It was the middle of the term, and like always Erna sat alone. Her hands grasping a book tightly as light hums of music whispered into her ears.
Students often avoided her, the mere thought of sitting beside her terrified them. One more word or even movement and they'd perish away.
She was the most feared on the school grounds, even if those boys she attacked were alive still. In everyone else's eyes, she had killed them.
She pushed her book closed its spine snapping from the force as she stood up gathering her belongings. "I except you'll be meeting the new student" she turned eyeing Ajax who pushed his beanie down.
"I'm sure Enid will bring her here eventually, don't tell me you're afraid of the new girl?". Ajax laughed weakly "of course not, that's mad".
Erna grinned as she pulled her bag over her shoulders "You haven't even meant her yet Ajax and you're scared of her".
"Ring any bells? Kinda similar to when you first showed up here. Everyone was terrified of you". She laughed "everyone's still terrified of me, nothings changed about that".
She hummed as she rubbed at her neck. "Still having trouble sleeping?" she huffed in annoyance "I swear that damn bed is putting a crink in my neck, I'm about to burn it".
The duo walked beside one another, Enid walked into the area with Wednesday Addams beside her.
Although Ajax didn't notice the girl, Erna did.
Enid walked along the quad Wednesday trailing behind her "there are many flavors of outcasts here, but the four main cliques are the fangs, furs, stoners and scales".
While Enid showed Wednesday each group she grew tense when she pointed at Erna "and of course there's Erna Beatrix. The thing that makes her so scary around here. Is that no one knows what the hell she is, even the headmaster is scared of her".
At those words Erna and Ajax appeared in front of her "yo Enid! You're not gonna believe the dirt I heard about your new roommate. She eats human flesh totally chowed down that kid she murdered".
Erna laughed underneath her breath as she spotted Wednesday behind Enid watching. "You better watch your back" Enid moved out of the way.
"Quite the contrary. I actually fillet the bodies of my victims then feed them to my menagerie of pets". Erna moved forward patting Ajax's shoulder "I prefer mine as soup form, although I can never quite figure out how to grind the bones".
Enid smiled awkwardly "Ajax and Erna this is my new roommate, Wednesday". Ajax gasped lightly "whoa, you're in black and white like a living Instagram filter. I had no idea Erna had another member in her club".
Erna smacked his shoulder as she huffed in annoyance "I don't have a club". Ajax laughed lightly as Enid walked towards him.
"Ignore him, gorgons spend way too much time getting stoned and Erna sorta hangs with them a lot so don't be surprised if she's around Ajax a lot".
The boy walked off and Erna smiled softly "pleasure to meet you Wednesday, I'm Erna I'm sure Enid has told you, my story and how everyone around here is scared of me".
She sighed weakly "but don't worry I'm not scary, I'm in the same hallway as you so if you ever need anything. I'm just a few doors down".
Her phone chimed "that's my que to get back with Ajax, he can't last a minute without me". She waved before walking away.
She neared Ajax who stood near a wall watching her with concern. "I don't trust that Wednesday girl, she's bad news. I'd avoid her if I were you".
Erna rolled her eyes "you're not my father Jax, besides I don't think she's the type to wanna be friends with someone like me. She'll run away the second I show any signs of my powers".
The sadness was hidden beneath her voice but Ajax saw straight through it. "She seems the type who'd wanna see your powers, she'd likely cheer at the sight of them, kinda spooky".
"I doubt she'd cheer, even I don't cheer. That's such a kiddish thing for someone to do Jax".
—
She moved with glee as her sword smacked into the girls shoulder across from her. She smirked as she pushed her mask off her face, letting it rest in the comfort of her arm.
Beside her Rowan fell to the ground, his face showing annoyance. "Coach, she tripped me". Erna wiped the sweat off her forehead with her sleeve.
Her body aching as she stepped off the mat beneath her feet. "It was a clean strike, Rowan" Erna notice Wednesday who stood near the duo, watching.
She wasn't surprised the girl was wearing an all black outfit. Erna found it satisfying in a way.
"Maybe if you whined less and practiced more, you wouldn't suck". Erna moved towards Rowan helping the boy off the ground.
"Seriously coach, when am I gonna get some real competition. I mean I've already beat Erna ten times. She's the only one who tries, anyone else want to challenge me?".
"I do" Wednesdays voice was calm and low as she spoke, Erna was rather shocked. "Oh, you must be the psychopath they let in! I never thought Erna would get a person just like her around here".
Erna rolled her eyes as her grasp tightened on her sword. "You must be the self appointed queen bee, interesting thing about bees. Pull out their stingers and they drop dead".
Erna laughed under her breath "Rowan doesn't need you to come to his defense, he's not helpless, he's lazy. And I'm sure Erna can defend herself".
Erna grinned "I sure can" Wednesday walked towards the mat "are we doing this or not?". Erna moved back watching the duo prepare.
"En garde" everyone in the room watched the duo fencing. Erna was amazed by the way Wednesday moved it was flawless and fast.
Her sword jabbed into Bianca "Point Wednesday" Erna grinned, glad someone besides her was actually beating Bianca for once.
The moment faded away when Bianca's sword hit Wednesday "the score is even". Erna rolled her eyes as Bianca smirked.
"That first point was clearly beginners luck, let's finish this" Wednesday eyed the coach. Her gaze dark as she spoke lowly,
"For the final point, I would like to invoke a military challenge. No masks, no tips". Everyone gasped slightly and even Erna was amused.
"Winner draws first blood" Bianca scoffed Wednesdays gaze glaring at her, Erna noticed her eyes never once blinked. It was honestly pretty impressive and intriguing.
"It's your decision, Bianca" Erna grew tense when Bianca threw her mask on the ground towards her feet. It hit her shoes making her kick it away.
"Let's see if you bleed in black and white" the duo fought intensely, Erna gasping when Bianca's sword slashed Wednesdays forehead.
The girl seemed rather shocked as she wiped the blood with her finger. "Your face finally got that splash of color it so desperately needed".
Erna gripped her body tightly her body growing cold as blood dripped down onto the mat. She felt the sweat coating along her flesh as she hurried out of the room. Before anyone spotted her.
She tugged her fencing outfit off letting it rest along the floor as she walked towards the nurses office. She pushed the door open "I need my medication".
She sat down on a chair pushing her head into her hands as her breathing grew intense. Wednesday Addams walked into the room, likely having her wound be patched up.
Her eyes looked at Erna almost intensely. Watching as the girls form folded within itself. Heavy breaths and light growls of frustration slipping out her lips.
"Erna, sweetie here's your medication" Erna looked up her eyes dark, looking into them felt like looking into an endless void of death and darkness.
They looked empty as she chattered her teeth together, they snapped with anticipation as her lips busted open. Blood falling onto the tip of her tongue as she jabbed her teeth into her flesh.
Her hands shock harshly, sharp claws slipping out of the cracks of her nail-beds. A bright light emerged beneath her eyelids, one that drew in anyone who dare looked at it.
Her body shock, her flesh growing pale as dark veins ran along her skin. Heaps of energy emerged from her body, swirling around her in large masses.
It appeared as if it was ready to attack at any second, Ernas form changed normal the second she felt someone touch her shoulder.
She gasped as she slammed her hands down on the chair she sat on. Her eyes locked with Wednesdays who stood in front of her.
Her hand resting on her shoulder, it vanished the second Erna looked at it. "you shouldn't have done that. Could've ended badly for you".
She stood up wiping the sweat off her face "last time someone touched me while it happened. It attacked him, cut his fingers off".
"What is it?" Wednesdays words were clear and loud for once, like she was amazed by what she saw. Erna held herself sighing "I don't know. It's dangerous. I can't control it yet.. well somewhat but it has a mind of its own when it sees blood".
Wednesday touched her wound "don't worry, I think it's passed. I wouldn't have let it hurt you anyways. I can control it when I make it hurt me... better me then someone else".
Erna grabbed a cup of water drinking it quickly as she watched Wednesday sit down in a chair. She threw the cup away before walking into the hall.
Ajax stood outside the doorway "you alright? Xavier texted and said you ran off". Erna sighed "I'm not surprised he told you about it, I'm fine just had a moment is all".
Ajax pushed himself off the wall his eyes looking at Erna with concern. "You gotta stop letting it hurt you, one of these days it'll get you killed".
She shock her head as she began walking "it can't kill me, I've told you that a million of times. I've had episodes before, this one ain't any different".
"You haven't had episodes in months Erna, the second this Wednesday chick shows up. You have one, you can't tell me that's not weird".
"It could've been anything that made it happen Jax, like Bianca being a bitch or even just stress". He sighed "what if next time you lose control".
"Tell you what, this weekend at the harvest festival. I'll sneak into the woods and practice learning control over it. I'll start off small, maybe have it move a tree or something".
"You think a tree is small" she laughed lightly as she smacked Ajax's arm "you rather I'd throw you into a tree? I mean I'm open to ideas",
"Just be careful, I'll be at the festival so if anything happens you call me or even just find me". Erna grinned "of course dad, I'll just call if I get hurt or if I accidentally hurt a tiny little innocent animal".
He rolled his eyes "if you call me dad one more time I'm gonna stone you". He gripped his beanie "I mean it Erna, I'll do it" she flicked his hand.
He yelped as he rubbed at the sore flesh "I'd like to see you try, I'd kick your ass if you stoned me. I gotta go, so I'll see you later".
She walked off going towards her room. Most of the time her roommate was never around, she normally tried her best avoiding Erna.
She'd sleep in her friends room, or even just sneak in late at night while Erna is sleeping. Run out the second it's morning, make sure she's never seen.
Erna felt like at this point, she had the room to herself. She enjoyed the silence, but sometimes she wished she had company.
—
The Harvest festival; although each year Erna never did much at the event. She still had no choice but to attend it. Most of the time she'd sit alone, watching everyone run around and play games.
Ajax sometimes hanged out with her, but sometimes he'd be busy with his friends. He often said she'd could hang out with them. She always said no, she knew deep down they wouldn't enjoy her company at all.
This year she snuck off into the woods, her feet bare as she stepped into a small clearing. Trees were all around her. The wind was chilly and making her flesh grow goose bumps.
She sighed deeply as she cracked her hands, letting her body relax as she set her jacket neatly beside her boots. She closed her eyes, clearing her thoughts almost immediately.
A soft thud replayed within her mind over and over again the simple sound alerting her of danger. She forced her eyes open when she heard the loudness of a deep growl.
She felt the hot breath creeping on the back of her neck making her tense up as she turned around slowly. The creature itself was massive, it's eyes boring into her soul.
It growled loudly, it's hand swinging forward making her cry out when it's deep claws gashed her flesh open. Blood seeped out the side of her body.
The wound burning as the creatures teeth bared into the air, likely ready to sink into her flesh. She acted fast punching the side of its face.
It didn't do much, but it was enough for her to run. She groaned as she ran, her fingers digging into her side harshly. It's loud footsteps echoed in her skull making her panic.
She just needed to get back with everyone, it wouldn't kill her in plain sight. She screamed when it pounced on her, it's claws ripping the back of her shirt, she yelled out when she felt the claws dig into her skin.
It's hand lifted once more ready to attack but they never came back down. Instead it ran away, it's loud growls still echoing in her skull.
She whimpered as she forced herself off the ground, she weakly wondered in the woods. Hearing the loudness of screaming making.
She spotted the creature once more, it's claws ripping into Rowan. Wednesday watched in horror as she laid on the ground.
"No! Rowan!" Erna ran forward screaming out angrily as she used her powers to send the creature flying into a tree. Her eyes darkened as she reached her hands forward, masses of energy surged out of her finger tips.
The dark veins crept along her flesh in fast motions as her fingers snapped. Her jaw tense as her teeth chattered with such force it cut her tongue.
Her feet elevated off the ground as the creature ran towards her. It's massive claws swinging towards her as she let out a deep scream of agony.
The ground beneath her darkened as her scream bounced off the atmosphere. Trees snapping with such force it made Wednesday gasp as she shielded herself from it landing on her.
The energy formed all around her arms and hands as it flew towards the creature with such force. It let out a loud heave of agony as it slammed its claws into Ernas leg.
Along the festival Ajax held onto a pile of cotton candy as he laughed at a joke Xavier said. He grew tense when the sky darkened, lighting bouncing throughout the sky in masses of darkness.
The cotton candy fell out of his grasp "Erna" he didn't pay anymore mind to his friends. He ran his entire body aching as he approached the woods.
He ran towards the bridge but was stopped by the sight of Erna, blood stained her flesh, her gaze dark as her body shock with such rage and agony.
"Erna!" Ajax ran forward fast his arms wrapping around her frame as her blood mended into his clothes. She let out a shaky breath "it killed him... it killed Rowan".
Ajax moved back slightly "what?" she rubbed at her neck "the creature..." her voice was scratchy and weak. Wednesday appeared from out of the woods.
She pushed a piece of paper into her pocket pausing at the sight of Erna. "It ran away, I-I was gonna kill it Jax, what if I killed it....".
"You gotta slow down, I can't understand what you're saying Erna, what did you almost kill? What happened?". Erna shock her head angrily "it was gonna kill Wednesday, it attacked me, it killed Rowan.. I couldn't save him".
She groaned as she leaned into Ajax "you're hurt, we gotta get back to the school". She wrapped her arm around his shoulder as he helped her walk.
The festival was bright and she practically felt the glares of people already. She heaved herself forward as she spotted Wednesday.
"I'll be right back" she let Ajax go leaving the bit behind as she moved towards Wednesday.
She gripped the girls sleeve "Wednesday! Are you alright, I could've sworn that thing almost got you. It came out of nowhere".
Wednesday looked at Erna "it was gonna kill you" her voice was so low, and although she didn't sound concerned. It was likely hidden deep inside of her.
"Oh don't worry about me, It didn't do much damage, nothing I can't handle". Wednesday looked around "I saw it, it was gonna kill you".
"You had a vision" Erna moved back slowly as she rubbed at her neck "you knew it was gonna kill Rowan, and that it would attack me".
"I was trying to warn you, but Rowan stopped me. He showed me this" Wednesday pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket.
Erna looked at it, a girl stood along it, fire burning all around her. In the background another girl stood, blood staining her flesh as heaps of energy left her body. "That's me. Holy shit... where did this come from, you said Rowan had it".
Wednesday nodded "he said his mother drew it, he was trying to kill me before that thing killed him".
Erna sighed sadly "I could've saved him, he was my friend. Whatever that picture means, we gotta figure out what it means".
She walked away from Wednesday wincing as she lifted her shirt upwards. Her wound burned, she watched as it mended itself together.
"Erna!" She turned and Ajax let out a breath of relief at the sight of her "I was worried you ran off alone, come on. Let's get you back to the school".
She nodded as she walked beside him "it happened again" her voice was low as he looked at her. "Did they heal?" She nodded as she turned slightly.
She jabbed her finger in her side "it's completely healed, doesn't even hurt". He hummed lightly "we gotta figure out what the hell you are".
She sighed "I gotta figure out what the hell killed Rowan first, whatever it was I'm not gonna stop until it's six feet under the ground".
