Six: Options & Wine

Chapter Six: Options & Wine

It was painstakingly silent as Jolene sat across from her boss - Margaret Murphy. The petite red haired woman sat behind her desk, shuffling through some papers. "Ah, here they are." Margaret gave Jolene a smile as she handed a pile of papers over to the doctor.

Jolene gave her a small smile back as she took the papers from Margaret's hands. She looked down at the papers in her hands, her eyes scanning over them. Confusion crossed her features as she read the words 'Mercy Hospital and Oregon General Hospital.' New York City and Washington? What did those two places what to do with Jolene. "I'm not sure what I'm looking at Margaret." She said, looking up at the older woman with pure confusion.

The brunette placed the puzzling papers down on the edge of the desk. When Margaret had originally called her to come in on her day off so the two could discuss a few things, the doctor thoughts she had meant an upcoming surgery or, something along those lines. Jolene wasn't expecting information on hospital's in New York and Washington.

"You're a great doctor, Jolene." Margaret spoke, pushing her thick framed glasses up on her face. "I know Charming is your home and, I know your uh," She paused trying to think of the proper word. "family is here." The word 'family' left a bitter taste in Margaret's mouth. The Sons Of Anarchy should not be considered a family in Margaret's eyes. They were a gang weather they liked to admit it or not. Margaret knew Jolene had deep ties to that gang. The doctor's father was a member and her son's father was a member as well. Jolene was a smart woman but, she was going down a path Margaret didn't want for her, and she felt it was her duty to try and held the young brunette doctor.

Jolene could hear the disgust in Margaret's voice as she practically spat out the word 'family'. "I'm sorry Margaret, but could you just tell me why I'm here." Her voice no longer trying to be polite to the woman in front of her.

"New York and Washington want you." Margaret smiled. "They have an opening in your field, and I think it would be an amazing opportunity. These are two great hospital's and I think your career could benefit greatly." She finished, her eyes glued to the brunette, waiting for her response.

The brunette doctor opened and closed her mouth a few times while she tried to form somewhat of a coherent sentence. It also didn't help that Margaret was staring at her waiting for an answer. "I don't know what to say." Jolene admitted. She knew what was being offered was an amazing opportunity and, a way at a better life for Mateo but, she wasn't so sure if she could actually leave Charming behind.

"I don't need an answer from you yet." Margaret reassured. "I just think you should know you have options and think them over carefully." The older woman said, her eyes landing on the papers that laid on the edge of her desk. "Take them." Margaret gestured towards the informational papers.

Jolene grabbed the papers and stuffed them into her purse. "Thank you, Margaret." She gave the woman a small smile, gathering her things before heading towards the door.

"Jolene." Margaret called putting before the doctor could make her escape.

The brunette turned around, resisting the urge to roll her dark eyes at the red head. She just wanted to pick up Mateo from the hospital's daycare and go home. "Yes?"

"I was hoping you'd be able to talk to Dr. Knowles. She's been spending some time with Jax Teller, and I don't think it's a good idea for her to get pulled into an old romance again. I was hoping you could intervene."

Jolene raised an eyebrow at Margaret's request. "It's none of my business to intervene with Tara's personal life." Jolene couldn't believe her ears. Did Margaret really expect her to have a heart to heart with Tara about Jax? The red haired woman would have a better chance of asking Gemma to intervene. "Have a good day, Margaret." The doctor was clearly over and done with this conversation.

The woman nodded, watching the doctor as she exited her office. A sigh escaped Margaret's mouth, she hoped Jolene would make the right decision.

Jolene had just put Mateo down for bed when a knock on the door interrupted her date night with a large glass of wine, and a cheesy horror movie. She stared at the door, hoping if she ignored it whoever it was would go away. It was no such luck as the knocking continued getting louder with each second that Jolene sat on the couch not answering it. The brunette cursed whoever was at the door, before she placed her glass of wine down and headed towards the door.

"You actually knocked this time." The brunette said sarcastically, her eyes landing on Happy. "Mateo's asleep." She added before stepping aside to let him in - against her better judgment. In the back of her mind she knew he wasn't there to see Mateo.

Happy nodded and walked into the kitchen to grab a beer. He smirked as he saw his favorite beer in the refrigerator, the tattooed man knew Jolene hated that brand of beer. She must of brought it for him after his late night visit. "Thought you hated this shit." He said, walking back into the living room and holding up the green Heineken bottle for her to see.

Jolene rolled her eyes at the 'blink and miss it' smirk on his face. "I do. I didn't want you drinking anymore of my beer though." She stated, taking a long sip of her wine, and getting herself comfortable once again on the couch. "So, why have you blessed me with your presence again?" Her tone filled with sarcasm as she kept her eyes focused on the tv.

"I planned on coming over early." He said, his eyes focusing on the bloody movie playing on the tv.

"Club stuff?" She asked.

"Yeah." He rasped, drinking down the rest of his beer.

The doctor nodded, she didn't need to ask anymore questions nor, did she want to. She knew what Happy did, she wasn't stupid. He didn't get the nickname 'Tacoma Killa' for being sweet. "You can't stay the night." Jolene said, finally looking away from the tv. "I don't Mateo seeing you and getting confused." She explained, seeing his jaw tighten at her words.

Happy knew he wasn't the world's best father. Fuck, he wasn't even sure if he could consider himself a father. He was hardly around but, he was trying. In his own fucked up way he was trying to be a better father to Mateo. "Your mom took him to CaraCara." He said, changing the subject. "That shit doesn't happen again." Happy said vehemently.

A clipped laugh left Jolene's mouth. She found it hilarious that the tattooed biker thought he could order her around, that he could just come in and tell her how to do things. She didn't let Happy order her around while they were together and, she wasn't going to let it happen now.

"I don't know why you're laughing, girl." He growled, his anger getting the best of him. Happy hated that Jolene never listened to him. If he said right she went left. He wasn't use to women not listening to his every demand, and it annoyed the shit out of him.

"Because you're funny Happy." The brunette said simply. She could hear him grinding his teeth from beside her, his jaw growing tighter if that were even possible. Jolene knew he hated being laughed at. Especially by her, it drove him fucking crazy. "I handled the shit with my mom." She told him, removing herself from the couch and walking towards the kitchen with her empty wine glass in hand.

Jolene could hear Happy's boot clad feet following behind her. She poured herself another glass of wine, taking a long sip of it before turning around and leaning against the counter. The doctor and the biker stared at each other, both of them too stubborn to speak first. Jolene crosses her arms over her chest, her dark eyes taking in the tattooed man standing across from her. "You should go Hap." She caved, speaking first. Jolene knew she couldn't win the quiet game with Happy.

Happy didn't say anything, he kept his eyes glued to her as he walked towards the brunette, closing the gap between them. He didn't even let the brunette question what he was doing before he placed his rough lips on her soft ones. It took a minute before Jolene comprehended what was going on before she started moving her lips in sync with Happy's. The kiss was urgent and full of want, need, and lust. It made Happy smirk knowing she wanted him just as much as he still wanted her.

"What the fuck, Happy?" She yelled in a whisper, coming to her senses and pushing him away. "You need to leave now." Jolene pushed past him and walked towards the front door, opening it quickly and motioning with her head for him to leave.

"I'm gonna show you that I'm trying." Happy said before walking out of the house.

Jolene closed the door behind him, not bothering to watch him ride off. She closed her eyes and leaned against the door, things were about to get messy.
