Shadows Recede

As I awakened, I found myself ensconced within a verdant glade, where starlight danced above my head like a celestial tapestry. I drew a deep breath, and as my gaze fell upon the familiar white creatures that stood watch over me, a sense of solace settled upon my heart. The gentle ones, it seemed, had gathered 'neath the starry vault to tend to my well-being.

The dragon, that majestic creature, approached me first, its scales glinting like moonlit ice as it nudged me gently with its snout. "Ah, yes, how do you fare, Nyx?" it inquired, its voice a soft melody that seemed to carry the whispers of the forest. The dragon's nostrils flared as it sniffed among the leaves that shrouded me, its gaze piercing the shadows that hid my form.

"You bear no wounds here, in the land of the stars," it declared, its words a gentle balm that soothed my weary soul.

Soon, the white Indoraptor drew nigh, its snout twitching as it investigated the extremity of my tail. "She bears no wounds upon her tail, either," it observed, its voice a gentle murmur. "It seems you were not injured as grievously as we initially feared."

I snorted, a low, rumbling sound, as the memories of Ripper's assault came flooding back. "But Ripper, he opened my belly," I protested, my voice laced with a hint of anguish.

The white Pterolycus, that wise and gentle creature, raised its head, its eyes shining with a deep understanding. "In your pain, it seemed as though he dealt you a mortal blow, dear one," it said, its voice a soothing balm. "Yet, in truth, he merely scratched the surface of your eye. Fear not, for you shall heal. And as for Anakin and Obi-Wan, those two are truly fond of you, their concern for your well-being a palpable thing."

The Pterolycus's words were a gentle rain upon my parched soul, a reminder that even in the midst of turmoil, there existed those who cared for me, who would stand by me through the trials that lay ahead.

I swallowed hard, a sense of trepidation rising within me. "No one else was hurt, were they?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

The dragon shook its head, its scales glinting in the starlight. "No, all the others fared well," it replied, its voice a gentle reassurance. "They remained in their huts, as Ahsoka had warned them to, in case Ripper were to venture too close. But he did not, for when they arrived, he fled deeper into the wasteland."

A sense of relief washed over me, a wave of gratitude toward Ahsoka for her foresight and quick thinking. The thought of any of the others being harmed, of their gentle lives being disrupted by Ripper's violence, was a burden I could not have borne. But now, with the dragon's words, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders, a sense of peace settle over me like a mantle.

"Will I recover?" I whispered, my voice barely audible, and the dragon nodded its great head, its eyes shining with a deep understanding.

"Yes, you must," it replied, its voice a gentle rumble. "For if you do not, the world will fall into darkness. Dooku is searching for you, Nyx. He will have his apprentice back, and he calls out to you in the Force. I am certain you have felt it, now and then."

The dragon's gaze pierced mine, its eyes blue as the oceans of Kamino, and I swallowed hard, my heart racing with a mix of fear and trepidation. I nodded, my head barely moving, for I knew the truth of its words. I had felt a presence in the Force, a dark and malevolent energy that had reached out to me during my confrontation with Ripper. It was Dooku, I was certain of it, his power coursing through the darkness like a cold, unforgiving wind.

The dragon settled onto its belly, its black, star-studded wings stretching out to either side, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me, a sense of peace that I knew was fleeting. For I knew that Dooku would not give up easily, that he would stop at nothing to reclaim me, to bend me to his will once more. And I knew that I would have to be strong, stronger than I had ever been before, if I was to resist his power, to resist the darkness that threatened to consume me whole.

"You are awakening," said the white Indoraptor, drawing back from me. "But do not worry, we will be with you again when you are ready. May the Force be with you, Nyx, forever and always," it said, its voice a gentle whisper that seemed to carry on the wind.

As I watched, the edge of my vision began to blur and the world around me grew dark once more. The sun sank below the horizon, casting long shadows across the landscape, and the figures that had gathered around me began to fade into the distance, shrouded in puffs of smoke. The darkness closed in around me, a suffocating shroud that seemed to press down upon me with an unbearable weight.

And yet, even as the shadows deepened, I felt a sense of peace settle over me, a sense of calm that seemed to emanate from the very heart of the Force. It was as if the universe itself was whispering a gentle lullaby in my ear, a soothing melody that seemed to wash away my fears and my doubts.

The darkness closed in, and I let it, feeling the weight of my exhaustion bearing down upon me like a physical force. I knew that I would have to face the challenges of the future, to confront the darkness that threatened to consume me whole. But for now, I simply let go, allowing the shadows to claim me, and the Force to carry me away on its gentle tide.

"We have her, we have her," said a strained voice, and I opened my eyes to the cold light of the sun, my gaze falling upon the rough-hewn wall of a hut. Hands were clasped over my scales, holding me in place.

"Yes, yes, wake up now, slowly," said a voice, and I turned my head to see one of the villagers gently applying a salve to one of my wounds. "We thought we were going to lose you there," they said, their voice filled with concern.

I blinked slowly, my mind foggy and my body aching. I tried to remember how I had gotten here, but my memories were hazy and unclear. I recalled being with Ripper, and then...and then nothing. The villagers must have found me and brought me back to their village.

I tried to speak, but my voice was hoarse and barely audible. The villager who was tending to my wounds looked up at me and smiled. "Don't try to talk, just rest," they said. "You've been through a lot. We'll take care of you."

I nodded, or at least, I tried to. My head was spinning and my body felt heavy and unresponsive. I closed my eyes, letting the villager's words wash over me, and let myself drift back into the darkness.

After a while, I came to and saw Anakin's gentle, concerned face come into view. I croaked and reached out to him, stroking his cheek with a human-like hand. Ah, my body has decided that it's not as damaged as it thought, so it's reverting to human form again, I thought, and sighed.

"Shh, shh, you're okay, Nyx, you're okay," Anakin said, but I could see the tears in his eyes, those kind blue eyes that always seemed to look out for me, the eyes that I had begun to love.

I felt a pang in my chest, a mix of emotions that I couldn't quite untangle. I was grateful to be alive, grateful to have Anakin by my side, but I was also scared, scared of what had happened, scared of what could happen again.

Anakin's hand closed around mine, his fingers intertwining with mine in a gentle grasp. "You're safe now, Nyx," he said, his voice low and soothing. "You're safe with me."

I looked up at him, my eyes locking onto his, and felt a sense of peace wash over me. Maybe, just maybe, I was starting to heal, starting to let go of the past and find a new sense of purpose. And maybe, just maybe, Anakin was the one who could help me find my way.

"Where are Obi-Wan and Ahsoka?" I croaked, and Anakin smiled and stood up, revealing my Master and the little Padawan I had begun to think of as my daughter. I opened my arms, and Ahsoka let out a squeal of delight and flung herself into my arms.

"My beloved, shh, I'm here and I'm not going anywhere," I whispered into her ear, kissing her forehead. Ahsoka wrapped her arms around me, holding me tightly, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me.

Obi-Wan smiled, his eyes warm with relief, and nodded at Anakin. "We were worried about you, Nyx," he said, his voice low and gentle. "But it seems you're going to be all right."

I looked up at him, my eyes locking onto his, and felt a sense of gratitude towards him. He had always been there for me, guiding me and supporting me, even when I didn't know what I was doing.

Ahsoka pulled back, her eyes shining with tears, and looked up at me. "I was so scared, Nyx," she said, her voice trembling. "I thought I was going to lose you."

I smiled, feeling a sense of love and connection towards her. "You'll never lose me, Ahsoka," I said, hugging her tightly. "I promise."

Anakin smiled, his eyes warm with happiness, and sat down beside us, putting a hand on my shoulder. "We're all here for you, Nyx," he said. "We're a team."

I looked at them, my heart full of love and gratitude, and knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

"What about Ripper?" I asked finally, letting Ahsoka snuggle into my chest. "He took off after we arrived, and we haven't found any sign of him since," Obi-Wan said, crossing his arms. "We sent out some of the bounty hunters to track the little trail we found, just a few drops of blood, but that's all they've come back with. Nothing. I think Ripper has decided he doesn't want to mess with this village anymore."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Ripper was a formidable foe, and I was glad that he had decided to leave us alone. But at the same time, I couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't the last we had seen of him.

Ahsoka looked up at me, her eyes wide with concern. "Do you think he'll come back?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

I smiled, trying to reassure her. "I don't know, little one," I said. "But we'll be ready for him if he does. We'll always be ready to protect each other."

Obi-Wan nodded in agreement. "We'll keep a close eye out for him, Nyx. Don't worry."

I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards my Master and my friends. We were a team, and together, we could face anything that came our way.

I sat up, with Ahsoka by my side. "Well, I think it's time we leave the village," I said. "They have capable hunters who can take care of themselves."

Anakin nodded in agreement and helped me up. Ahsoka pulled back and smoothed out her robes. "It'll be nice to sleep in a bed in the temple again," she said. "Sleeping here is fine and all, but they don't exactly have ordinary beds."

I chuckled. "Good, you haven't forgotten yourself, little one," I said, standing up. I was a bit stiff here and there, but overall, I was feeling fine. Bantha-sized bruises were scattered around my ribs and chest, but other than that, I was okay.

Ahsoka looked up at me with a concerned expression. "Are you sure you're okay, Nyx? You're not hurting anywhere?"

I smiled and ruffled her hair. "I'm fine, kiddo. Just a few bumps and bruises. I'll be back to normal in no time."

Anakin nodded in agreement. "We'll get you back to the temple and get you checked out by the medics. Just to make sure."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. It was time to get back to the temple, to get back to normal. I was ready to leave the village and its dangers behind, and get back to the safety and familiarity of the Jedi Temple.
