THE GAME SEEMS TO GO BY IN A FLASH, Kirra learning more and more about both the sport and the players. For example, she learnt that Kieran's teammate, Alofiana, was a wing and his job was to be speedy on the outside. She also learnt about his other teammate known as 'Brimmo' who played as a fullback and how he usually had majority of the pressure because he was the last man in the line. As the game came to a close, fans piled up near the field waving their cameras around and filming all the players with eager smiles and excited cheers.
Her eyes remained trained on the reserve player, and his bright green eyes that flashed whenever he turned to a fan to take a photo. She's never been so drawn to someone before, even the air around him seemed to glow. Michelle knudges her rib slightly, brows wriggling so obviously it's like she's making a public statement. "Don't be shy! Go and talk to him!" she urges as they both stand, pushing her towards the boy with a mullet. "Don't be an egg, Mickey. He's taking photos with his fans!" Kirra says, tone laced with shame and embarrassment. Sure, he's cute but she had to at least keep her dignity.
"Jayden's a good boy, Keers. You should go have a chat with him." Karina says with a cheeky wink, laughing with Michelle teasingly. Kirra feels blush rush to her cheeks as they walk onto the field and meet with her bald cousin who's in the middle of a conversation with the Raiders prop and fellow Kiwis player, Joseph Tapine. The two men converse about plays and other rugby affairs, confusing Kirra and making her feel as dumb as a mule. Instead of eavesdropping on their conversation, she opens her phone to distract herself from the post game buzz.
Various messages flood through her instagram and she combs through to get past the cringe pick up lines, inappropriate photos and spam. She opens the most recent message from her half brother, Kahurangi, and stifles a laugh.

Kieran casually led the three woman to the locker rooms where the Gold Coast boys all celebrated happily with a can in hand, cheering each other on and patting their try scorers backs. "Shot, J!" One of the taller, broader men—whom she thinks is Tino if she can remember correctly—says as he pats her crush on the back, Jayden's smile slowly spreading across his face. She'd hate to admit it, but she found herself admiring how gorgeous he was. Or maybe she was that touch starved and inexperienced, she was helplessly oogling over a complete stranger. What a turn off.
"Did you wanna meet any of my teammates, Keers?" Kieran asks as he peels out of his shirt, tape running across his chest and a curious look in his eye. Before the girl could answer, Michelle intervenes with a nosy smile. "Why don't you introduce her to Jayden, K? I'm sure these two would get along well." The older male squints, confused, before casually shrugging. "Yeah, whatever." Kieran leads Kirra over to the male who seems to be around her age, her heart thumping in her chest as the palpitations continue to flutter uncomfortably.
