I looked down for a quick second from the screen when I noticed Rafael was asleep. I let out a sigh and almost as if right on time my phone yelled at me. I picked it up and looked down at the message.
Hope๐ฒ๐ซ
We gotta talk with Dr. Saltzman meet us at his office.
I shook Rafael gently and he groaned barely opening his eyes to take in his surroundings. "Hey I have to go talk to Hope, okay?" he sent me a curt nod and let his eyes close again. I sighed and stood up trying not wake the poor tired boy. Once out of the room I practically ran to the headmasters office.
"You sure it glowed again?" my eyes widened as I looked down at the charcoal colored artifact. "You didn't tell me it glowed again!" I exclaimed. "I sleep with the damn thing under my pillow. It's hard to miss," he notched in arrow into his crossbow and aimed it at the China cabinet never pulling the trigger. "What do you think it's gonna be this time?" I looked in Hopes direction wondering the same question. "Cyclopes," I suggested "Slender man? Santa?" I laughed softly at Hope's crazy proposal.
"Well given our luck, I think it's safe to rule 'ol Saint Nick ," I shrugged "I don't know man, I mean Santa Claus is kinda terrifying when you think about it. Breaks into your home. He's sees you when your sleeping," Hope smiled at me "Not mention,judge-y,"Dr. Saltzman stepped out from behind his desk "Girls, I need you to focus," Hope through her hands in the air as an exasperated gesture. "Look, we're trying. I just wish that satans night lite would give us some rest," she exclaimed.
"Yea, I wish that knife was never in our school to begin with, but it's not like we can change that now. All we can do is make sure we're not blindsided by another monster waltzing through our doors," the door open and I looked over. Standing there were to girls, fraternal twins; Lizzie and Josie Saltzman. Lizzie looked angry but Josie stayed staring at the ground before glancing up. "Too late," I smirked at Hope.
ย ย "Oh, God," Dr. Saltzman whispered "Uh, girls. What are you doing here? You're not supposed to get in till tonight," I stood up next to Hope sending Josie a small wave. "Mom was able to get us direct into Dulles.ย Then faxed, texted, and emailed you our revised itinerary," Dr. Saltzman sighed looking down guiltily. "I'm so sorry. It's-it's chaos around here," Josie looked at her enraged sister "It's okay dad. We know that your overwhelmed, but Europe was amazing. And seeing mom was really good," the girl in beret beamed brightly.
"Jo's covering the bright side. Far less sunny was waiting for you in the chilly dark of morning at the terminal and you not showing up," she dropped her bag on the ground. "In his defense, um we've been in crisis mode around here," I nodded at Hope's statement staring at the angry blonde.
"Oh we've heard all about it. Hope got bamboozled by one of the monsters and now only two keys separate the entire supernatural community from being consumed by a Hell portal. I'm guessing that weird little vase is one of them," I glanced at the urn sitting on the desk. "It's an urn actually,"ย I corrected. "I don't care what it is. I care that instead ofย being welcomed at the airport, we were forced to take a three-hour shuttle ride that smelled like an open sewer. And feet. Thanks a lot, Hope. Way to ruin life for the rest of us," she turned around and I could feel my eyes change.
Hope grabbed my hand and I sighed feeling them change back.
Lizzie's p.o.v.
I stormed in my room slamming the door shut and walking back over to my mirror. "Breathe. Just breathe," I held my face in my hand. "Come on, you beautiful beast. Say the magic words," I stared at the mirror. "I wish Hope had never come to this school."
A loud poof came from behind me and I shrieked turning around. A blue woman in what looked to be Arabic robes stood with her hands folded in each other. "Where did you come from?" she held her hand out to the side. "First things first. I'm..." "Blue. Y-you're so blue," she looked down "My name is Ablah," I rolled my eyes. "And your obviously a monster," her eyes narrowed "Would a monster grant your wish?" I smirked "Holy crap. You're a freaking genie," she sighed "Hmm. Jinni. And your wish is my command," she made a snapping noise and we both dissipated into wisps of blue smoke.
I opened my eyes and I quickly realized I was laying down, on my bed. A loud knocking came from my door before my dads voice rang through the air, "Elizabeth." I could hear the door open "Rise and shine. What are you taking the day off Lizzie B?" I sat up "Dad, what time is it? I head the weirdest dre..." I looked over at him and scraggly beard covered half of his face. "What happened to your face?" he didn't seem to notice my question before replying "Quit stalling. It's time... for fight training," he slammed his fist into his other palm and I shook my head.
"Pass. I'm not really in the mood to watch Hope be a ninja today, dad," he chuckled softly "Who?" and then it clicked it in my head. The Genie! "Never mind," I smirked "All right. Well, come on Josie's at the dock," he did some weird karate moves while letting out a few grunts "Come on. Let's go. Get out of bed."
I was currently fighting my dad with my sister Josie. I let out an excited laugh when I blocked his stick holding it down between myย hip and my stick. "I'm so good at this. How am I so good." He scoffed quietly probably hoping I wouldn't notice "Quit bragging. You're loosing," I glanced back at my smirking sister.
"Lizzie go high," I pushed him and away and swung at his head. He ducked and Josie knocked out his knees. We held our sticks at his throat like knives and he let out a laugh "I'm really proud of you guys. Help your old man up," we both stuck out our hands for him to grab and he let out a loud grunt as he stood up. "Oh, God. Oh, yeah. Our years of training have really paid off," my lips curled into a big grin. "So, there's like, no one else you'd rather be training with?" I asked just to make sure.
"Well, who else would there be? Now go get dressed. You're giving a tour in ten minutes and I really need you to sell the new recruit on our place. He's not sure he wants to go here," I let my eyebrows furrow "Who wouldn't want to go here?" "Exactly," Josie responded quickly. "We'll reel him in dad don't worry," he gave us a genuine smiles
"What would I do without you guys?"
ย ย I went to get changed and now Josie and I were standing in front of Jed ready to give him a tour. "Welcome to the Salvatore school. We're your tour guides," he glanced back and fourth at me and my sister "I'm Josie," jo greeted happily. "I'm Lizzie," I added.
"Sisters."
"Twins."
"Fraternal. Obvs."
"Come on, we'llย show you around. Everybody gets along with everybody here. For the most part," we held his arms interlocked with ours and walked into the school. "The wolves are pretty cliquey. They mostly like to hang with their... oh," I stared out at the common room in shock. "This place is a turd stain," couldn't have said it better myself. I pulled my arm away from his "Uh... the maintenance staff must be on holiday or something.ย Um... why don't we introduce you to your pack," I prayed Laya was in this reality. He liked her then I'm sure he'll like her now.
"Okay. Where's the pack," Josie laughed softly and held her hand out. I looked forward and groaned in disgust. "Hey Jed. I'm Luis," Jed looked at Josie "Uh..." he held his hand out for Jed to shake "Your alpha," I faked a smile "Luis. Where's Laya," Jed looked at me weird "Who's Laya," he asked. "Yea who's Laya," Luis and my sister repeated in unison.
After the tour I sat with Josie eating oatmeal. I picked some of it up with my spoon and let it fall back down into the bowl disgusted. "Do you think he'll stay," I looked over at Jed who was sitting at an old wooden table next to Luis. Jeez if Laya was here. "It's so hard to get anyone to stay," I watched as Jed crossed his arms over his chest. "Well if these are the breakfast offerings, it's no wonder. Where are the pastries? The Belgian waffles? The smoothie station?" I placed my lime green bowl on the table but Josie just laughed at me.
"Right. I'll tell dad to add that to the budget after he pays the gas bill,"she glanced back over at Jed and Luis before letting out another short laugh. "Wait. Are we... poor?" Josie's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Lizzie, you know how expensive it is to run this place, how hard it is to get benefactors. I mean, Damon Salvatore has been as generous as he can be, but he and Elena have kids of their own that they need to take care of," I looked down at the old cobweb infested table.
"I'm gonna make sure that dad eats. He works so hard," I watched Josie stand up and walk away. "Oh, crap," I exhaled sharply "Genie? Genie? Genie? Genie?" I looked around "Yeah," I flinched and turned around. "This place sucks ," she nodded "Hope's dad wrote my mom a big check to fund the school when it openedย so no Hope, no funding, no fun. Oh yeah and where's Laya ? You know what doesn't matter, fix this," she leaned forward "Is that to be your next wish ," I stared forward "Yes, that will be myโ wait. I know how this goes. I waste my first wish by not being specific enough, I waste my second one trying to clean up my first only to make things worse, and then the third gets wasted by wishing I never had any wishes in the first place."
"I won't fall for it, Genie," she cleared her throat "It's jinni," I rolled my eyes "Thats what I said. I'll beat you at your own game. Make the best of this rat trap. Send me back in," she snapped and when I opened my eyes I backed up before hearing my Dad's voice. "I know Caroline. I am sorry I sent you on a fools errand to Idaho, but this is an inexact science and we only have so much to go on. We'll find new recruits I promise," I looked down at the newspaper laying on the table the headline read Strange occurrences in New Mexico.
Lizzie was cutting another section out of a different newspaper "This is how we find new recruits?" Josie smiled glancing up at me "Why are you acting so weird today?" I didn't answer. "Well no wonder our school is lame. But fear not, family," they both looked up at me "I know how to help," I pulled the cover off of the old globe and dust flew into the air.
"Where did you get that?" Josie questioned. "In the archive room," I pushed it forward for he two thankful it had wheels. "We don't have an archive room," I sighed "Well now it's more of just like a storage closet, but no matter. This is the solution to all of our recruiting problems," I pulled the globe to a halt in front of my dad and twin with a big smile.
"It's like a locator spell, only it's interactive. There instant a new, young, being is awakened to their powers this bad boy lights up," I stared down at the globe happily. "That's incredible. H-how did you know how to do this?" I took a second to formulate words. "An annoying know-it-all witch I knew in another created it so I just copied her spell. Go ahead. Give it a spin," my dad glanced at my sister before stepping closer to the globe. He placed one hand on the top bar and another of on the side of the model pulling it around into a perfect twirl.
My dad sighed staring at the earth model as it glowed. It came to a halt and small glowing dots appeared all across the map. "There's so many of them," my dad whispered astonished. "All waiting for us to come to their rescue, daddy," my dad looked back down at the globe and his eyes lit up. "Oh, well, there..." he pointed at a spot on the map. "The bigger the glow, the more powerful the being," my dads eyes bulged as he looked back down at the dot.
"Well, then we need to bring this one in immediately," my sister looked down to where my dad was pointing. "There's two!" she exclaimed. I walked over to them and grinned staring at the two circles of light "There huge, Where is that?" my dad's finger pressed against the spot before looking back up at us. "New Orleans."
Jazz music played as my dad pulled the door open with Josie and i behind him. I gulped at the sight of all that blood. People were across the entire room blood covering their bodies and I couldn't help but be a little scared. The man playing the trumpet looked to be alive until the music came to a spot and his head rolled to the ground causing me to gag.
"Gross," I whispered staring at the fedora wearing head. Viscous chomping and slurping noises came from in front of us. I waited for the figure to turn around and gasped when it did.
"You have got to be kidding me."
Laya's p.o.v.
I came out of the restroom and grabbed a glass from the cabinet in the kitchen. Walking over to the fridge I moved aside a bloodied body I rolled my eyes moving out of my way. I pulled the door open and grabbed the pitcher of tea that I usually keep made. I poured into my glass and checked myself in the full body mirror.
"Hope, darling I ask very few things of you, remember I would like to keep the dead ones out of the kitchen. It makes the food smell like dead people," I stepped out into the lounge and Hope was staring at three people. A middle aged blonde man with a scruffy beard, another blonde girl who I assumed to be his daughter and another girl with wood colored hair and dark brown eyes. "I wonder where you find such willing participants," I pulled the red straw into my mouth staring at the three.
"Laya," the blonde whispered. The name confused me no one calls me by anything but my full name. Who would go by a dumb name like Laya? "Who the hell are you?" Hope wiped the blood off of her bottom lip. "Uh-uh. Time out, Genie," my eyebrows furrowed and Hope didn't seem very happy "My name is Hope."
I smirked "And you need to leave unless you want to be dessert," I warned. "Wait," the older mane stepped forward "Hope Mikaelson? I knew your parents. I know where all this darkness is coming from. If you could just talk to me, i... really think I could help you and your friend," Hope turned to me and I shrugged.
Lizzie's p.o.v.
I watched as Hope, Laya, and Dr. Saltzman sparred. Fits full of grunt fell from the mouth as they battled. "You really saved the day. Look at him. He just looks so happy," I glared at the three "Yay, me." Josie didn't seemed to notice my sarcasm as she stared forward "And we have a couple of tours later today. Now that we have a tribrid, and a hybrid we're in the game for real," she sighed happily and walked away.
I turned back to the three not feeling as much enthusiasm as Josie was. "You two belong here, girls. This could be your home. The family you girls lost," I groaned "I can't stay," Hope told my dad bringing a little happiness back into me. "If Hope's not staying neither am I," Laya exclaimed. "We've done so many awful things," Laya nodded at Hope's statement before continuing to fight.
"That's because there was no one there to guide you two. I don't blame either of you girls, I should have found you two sooner," my dad pulled he two into a hug and exhaled sharply letting his eyes close causing me to huff. "Oh... screw this. Genie? Genie?" I looked around before a voice called out from behind me. "Jinni. J-I-N-N,and adding "I" at the end," I rolled my eyes. "To sound exactly like Genie. Now tell me something. Are all J-I-N-N-Is this terrible at their job or did you completely miss the part where I wished for Hope not to go here?"
"I wish Hope had never come to this school, and she hadn't- until today. Fascinating that your father's dream couldn't be realized without her and her friend's presence, isn't it?" I rolled my eyes "Go back inside your lamp," I retorted.
"You must choose your words carefully. Precision is key. I can only grant what it is you wish for, so... you should figure out exactly what your heart desires, or in your case what it does not," "Well... What my heart desires is Hope always showing up here to be dads pet. So... I wish... there was never a Salvatore school to begin with." She smiled brightly before her simple reply.
"Your wish is my command."
Laya's p.o.v.
"Now, remember, if anyone starts messing with you just play it cool," I rolled my eyes as I stared forward at the large high school logo. "Don't worry, Marcel we know," I looked up at the mirror and pushed my glasses up farther on the bridge of my nose.
"No magic allowed. Blah, blah, blah," I grinned looking back at Metias. "No bothering me or my friends. Blah blah blah," he rolled his eyes at me and leaned back his seat. "All right, well I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you expose your powers..." I nodded at my older brother. "You risk becoming a target," I loved my brother. He was by far the closest thing i have to a father, because both of my parents died in a car crash when I was eleven leaving Marcel with the responsibility of watching over Metias and I.
"All right, you two have fun at school," I smiled at my brother before pulling the door handle open and hopping out of the car I strutted into the school the first room I make it to is the gym. I searched the room for my best friend when I finally found her, Josie, but she was kissing Connor again. I internally gaged and walked over "And that is inappropriate," Lizzie exclaimed. I rolled my eye at Josie's blonde twin, that girl has been nothing but weird and way over dramatic.
Connor and Josie pulled apart "Your Sister's being weird again," Connor told his girlfriend looking back at the blonde haired blue eyed girl. "Cut her some slack. It's hard being the only one going to homecoming without a date," I laughed "Wait, I don't have a date?" Rafael walked over and pulled me into a kiss "Hey babe how are you," I grinned "Good now that your here," I pulled him into another kiss and pulled away when I heard Connor. "I can't wait to see what you have planned for tonight," Rafael looked down at me "You either, huh?" Rafael nodded giving Connor a high five.
They're pretty close like Josie and I. "I'm pretty sure your gonna like it," Josie kissed her boyfriend again and I smiled softly letting Rafael pull me closer into his chest. "Ooh," Josie giggled turning back to her twin. Lizzie faked a smile "Hmm," Connor stood behind her for a minute while Rafael and I watched the scene. "I am so confused. You're into Connor?" I rolled my eyes "Lizzie, we talked about this. He's QB1 I'm head cheer. It just makes sense," there was only one secret that I in trusted in Lizzie and that was because she shared. She's a witch, just like her sister, just like me, but I'm a hybrid so naturally (Whether or not it's self proclaimed) I'm the coolest.
"That makes no sense," Dana walked up handing me my Sweet Tea before telling over to Josie. "Here's your skinny vanilla latte," Lizzie's head whipped around at the sound of the girl's voice. "Not now, Dana. My sister is obviously on drugs and o despise vanilla latte," my eyebrows furrowed as she handed the drink to Josie "Thanks, D," Dana stood next to her other best friend staring at Lizzie weirdly.
"Somebody's clearly having one of her off days," I laughed at Josie's snide comment about her twin. "Lizzie-Bear, relax. There's only so much a doctor can raise your dosage before my moms pharmacy will plumb run out of pills," we all laughed except for Lizzie. Rafael wrapped his arm around my torso and pulled me to my first period "Come on, babe."
We walked to first period which coincidentally I shared with Rafael, and Josie. "Those Who don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. And the truth is, those 27 civilians they weren't... casualties of, uh... uh... does anyone remember the name of the battle? Anyone?" Lizzie turned to me "Is it just me, or is my dad a little day-drunk ," I laughed "When isn't he?"
Me. Saltzman cleared his throat, "Kelya?" I rolled my eyes "It's Kelaya sir. And it's the battle of willow creek," I informed. He pointed at me and nodded "Exactly. All those 27 civilians, they were just rounded up by their friends, and neighbors, Hmm all because they where different," he was staring at his two sister before looking back down at his watch. "Why is he still wearing his watch?" Josie questioned back at her sister. "Why wouldn't he be?" Josie turned back at her sister angrily.
After class I was walking with Josie, and Lizzie. "How could you forget?" I kept up with Josie's pace while Lizzie was falling behind. "I'm sure I didn't forget. Just remind me?" I opened my locker right next to Josie's who turned back to Lizzie. I grabbed my sketchbook, but before I could go back to listening to Josie scold her twin sister two hand wrapped their way around my waist swaying me gently. A light kiss was placed on my cheek and I turned to my boyfriend.
"Hello," I greeted "Hey," he grabbed the notebook out of my hand and pulled it open staring at the sketches. My sketch book was off limits to almost everyone except for the very few, Rafael, my brothers, and Josie. He stopped at a page and smirked turning it around he found a picture of him and I together. It was a sketch I made off of the framed phot sitting on my night stand at home. "Beautiful, as always," I smiled and watched as Josie walked bye. "Come on, kid let's get to class," we walked to art hand in hand.
In art, Rafael did his best to paint a picture of me, and even with all my love I can tell you it wasn't that good. I, on the other hand thought my painting was pretty good. School seemed to take forever, but that was most likely because I couldn't wait for the end of the day when I would get to watch my best friend be crowned prom queen.
I went home with Metias and he helped me get ready for the dance that I was so anxiously prepared for.
When I walked into school Rafael walked up with a huge smirk on his face. He came over and pulled me into a kiss. For the split second I opened my eyes I noticed Josie storm away from her sister. I let out a sigh pulling away from my boyfriend "Give me like 7 minutes, okay?" he nodded and pecked me on the lips before letting me walk away.
On my trek I could feel power radiate from behind me and there stood Lizzie screaming. I ducked as the lights started to explode and stormed over to her pulling her into a hug. "Lizzie. Lizzie it's okay," she didn't seem to hear my comforting as she stayed screaming and all the lights went out. Fits of murmurs and whispers erupted from the kids once bustling now just standing in the hallways staring at the blonde Saltzman twin in shock.
People were pulling out their phone and pointing them at Lizzie when Mr. Saltzman's voice rung through the corridor, "What the hell?!" he noticed Lizzie and I standing next to each other while Josie kept her distance. Mr. Saltzman grabbed Josie's hand and pulled her to the door waving for Lizzie and I to follow. "We gotta go. We gotta go now," just as we ran up to the front door I small car what looked to be a BMW parked in front of the door.
People in spandex suits with eyeliner on stepped out of the car with self automated doors.
ย ย "Looks like you guys could use some help," I gulped and pushed my glasses up farther on the bridge of my nose. "Nuh-uh, nope we are all good," the tan one with caramel colored skin seemed to be staring into me which made me feel even more uncomfortable. Where's Raf?ย "That M, Mikaelson like the boarding school," the pale girl didn't seem to care enough to answer his question.
"Kaleb compel the students to forget what they've seen," "on it," the boy on her left replied. "Jed, establish a perimeter, lock the place down," he stepped forward still staring at me "Copy," he walked away leaving a little boy "Pedro, call in the chopper," I couldn't help but gush at the boy's cuteness. "Uh, uh I said that we're good, okay? Josie and I do not want to be superheroes," Josie pushed her sister off of her.
ย "Speak for yourself," my eyebrows furrowed at the blonde, I men's I know she's weird but I wonder what she's going on about.ย "We're not here for you," they both looked back at Mr. Saltzman surprised. "And her," I pushed my glasses up again, a bad habit for when I get nervous. Josie and Mr. Saltzman followed after the girl and I sighed mimicking their actions.
The chopper ride.
"So, uh tell me about yourself," I sat next to the boy named Kaleb and across from the small one named Pedro, who sat next to the boy named Jed. "Um I don't know," I let out a sigh before nodding "You and me both kid. You and me both kid," Pedro smiled my way while Kaleb tried his best to not laugh. Jed just kept staring out the window.
"What about you?" Jed asked "Anything interesting?" I shrugged in response "I speak five languages, and uh I think a pretty okay drawer," Jed nodded with and impressed expression when the bus pulled to a halt. "Well we're here," I gasped looking out the window.
"Make yourselves at home," Hope instructed as we followed her into the large building. "Wow. Th-this place it's like a dream come true," I smiled at the older man who is walking next to me. "Perhaps you've heard my father has had a checkered past, but when he had me things changed. There wasn't a school he could send someone like me to, so he built this one. And as you can see it's been quite the success, so much so that's he overseas running our European branch which is why we're in need of a new headmaster," I looked up at Mr. Saltzman happy for him.
Maybe this will get him to stop drinking. "I think I'm going to be sick," I rolled my eyes at Lizzie's dramatic statement. "Sorry if the chopper ride was to bumpy, bathroom's down the hall," Lizzie stormed forward before sending a glare towards the girl. "I know where the bathroom's are," I furrowed my eyebrows at this. There's no way she's been here before.
I could feel someone grab my hand and when I looked over I found Jed. I smiled at him, but he was staring at home. She sent him a curt nod and his lips curled into a devious smirk. He pulled me over to the stairs. "What are we doing?" I whisper yelled "Getting you away from the boring orientation. I'll show you around later come here," I climbed up a few steps hesitantly "Where are we going," he shrugged before stepping down to my height.
"Somewhere to talk," Jed towered over me which was kind of strange. He leaned forward "I wanna kiss you," he whispered "Then do it wolf boy," he leaned closer to me and our lips collided. I gasped at what seemed to be fireworks busting around us. When suddenly, almost annoyingly Rafael came to mind. I let out a sigh pulling away "What's wrong," Jed questioned.
I faked a laugh to relieve the awkward tension that I'm sure is about to overwhelm us. "Um Other than the fact that I just met you? I kind of have a boyfriend Jed," the last words came out as a low whisper. "Oh, I mean of course you do. Someone as beautiful as you? Who wouldn't want to be your boyfriend," I let out and awkward laugh. "Thanks."
Lizzie's p.o.v.
"I know where the restrooms are," I sneered. I stormed away from the group and halfway there I was stopped by Genie. I leaned against the wall, "Screw this world, I want my final wish," Genie finally looked at me. "Have you even noticed how please the rest of your family seems with this reality," I peaked out from behind the wall and watched as Josie laughed with Hope, "Or how Laya can finally be with the love of her life," she was now somehow next to me pointing at the stairway. I looked over and Jed was standing one step above her with his lips attached to hers.
"God, there my freaking wishes right," I turned around covered by the wall. "Indeed, but if this is to be your third wish might I suggest you wish for what you truly want. Isolate your biggest problem and show it no mercy," a smirk made its way to my face. I watched as Hope placed her hand on Josie's thigh. "I wish Hope Mikaelson was never born," I whispered.
"Your wish is my command."
"Aye," someone shook me "Aye," I opened my eyes "He, what's your name?" I sat up and it was Kaleb who was talking to me. "The suns almost down, can't stay here," I looked around "Patrols will be out soon we gotta move," this time it was Jed. Laya was here too watching me with studious eyes. She unlike the other two didn't look as raggedy.
That's when my surrounding started to come to my realization. "Where the hell are we?" Laya chuckled at this. "Damn whit girl," Kaleb stated kneeling back down next to me. "Mystic Falls. You said your father would help us get out of here. Maybe Mexico," Jed looked back at us. "Dr. Saltzman is your father right? You know where to find him?" Laya pulled back on Jed's sleeve. "Calm down. Somethings obviously wrong with her."

"Why are their eyes all scratched out," I turned to the posters noticing Rafael's, my best friend with a deep cut through the sections where his eyes should be. "Cause their finally free," I gulped as soon as the words came out of kalebs mouth. "Hey. Come on," Jed tried to protest. "Death is better than being hunted by triad until you starve, bruh," Jed looked back at me with a small smile. "That's a matter of opinion," I faked a smile back at him glancing one last time at my best friend's poster before the loud noise of a helicopter passing could be hear from overhead.
"Speaking of. It's time to bounce," I whispered noticing the patrols walking over. The other three seemed to notice them and I gained a few nods in response. "Okay, lead the way blondie," Jed was staring down at the girl now. Our plan was to escape. Get to Mexico so we could live our lives together and in peace.
Kaleb grabbed her roughly by the arm "I hope the supernatural railroad isn't just a fairytale," Jed muttered. We followed the blonde all the way to what looked to be an abandoned building. Nothing could be hear but the leaves crunching under our feet with every step, it's nerve recking. When you see so many battles it almost seems like this is nothing more than the quiet before the storm.
Kaleb slapped Jed's arm and pointed to the hallway opposite of where the blonde was walking. I followed the two down the corridor. I could feel the Saltzman girl behind me. Naturally I grabbed Jed's hand not really knowing if it's because I'm scared or happy, but the people were here. A girl with one simple tear in her eye turned around "Welcome to the resistance, I wish I could say it was under better circumstances," she seemed to notice the girl behind me fast.
"You've got a lot of nerve showing up here," Jed pulled me closer to him as the rest of the people in the room turned to the blonde. "Penelope what's going on?" she asked. "At least you earned this mental breakdown. Leave, before I feed you to the vamps," the blonde girl seemed extremely confused. "Please, just tell me what's happening," the girl tried to beg. "Out!" The short haired girl yelled.
"Who died," the girl scoffed in response when I noticed the coffin. My ears perked up at the sound of footsteps approaching. A middle aged man with dirty blonde hair and a crossbow came out from behind the wall. "Dad. What's going on? Why is this world like this?" the older man let out a sigh pulling the girl into a hug. "Sweetie... you can't be here," she followed the man who I'm now assuming to be Dr. Saltzman out of the room. Jed leaned closer to me "You okay?" I nodded a him.
"Yea. I'm fine."

"You ran away. I've been worried sick, looking for you," I scanned the room intently. "Why would I run?" I don't really know if I was asking my dad or myself that but it was a question. "You don't remember what happened? Must be some sort of amnesia triggered by the trauma," my eyes widen d slightly. "What trauma?" his face seemed cold and it was starting to scare me a little.
"It doesn't matter now. All that matters is your home. Not that we can stay much longer. Triad's closing in every day," I picked up a news letter about my mom and Hope's dad. "The world knows about vampires?" I whispered mostly to myself. "You've forgotten more than I thought. Klaus Mikaelson lost everything that anchored him to his humanity, and so he shut it off two years ago, and started a war. Outed supernaturals in the process. And just like that Triad got ugly, racist platform to stand on and nothing's been safe ever since," all this new information was insanity so I asked the main question on my mind.
"Where's Josie?"
My dad looked away sadly "Dad. Where is she?" he finally looked back up at me. "She's dead, Elizabeth," a large lump formed in my throat and tears begun to swell at my eyes. "The vigils for her," I fell back "No. No. No. She-she can't be... she can't be. That's not what I wanted," I shuddered "I know. But, right now you just... need to get some sleep," I shook my head "No, no. I-I can fix this. I-I can make this whole miserable world go away. Josie's not really gone. I promise, okay? I'll fix it. Genie?!ย Genie?! Genie?!"ย My dad grabbed my hands.
"Elizabeth. Please, please..." I looked down "This was my last wish," I exhaled "I cant take it back. Oh I've ruined everything. Oh, no. It's my fault," I was full out sobbing now. "Penelope," my dad called our "It's all my fault. It's all my fault," I let out a scream. "Penelope!" My dad yelled. Penelope walked over and blew some sort of powder I my face and darkness soon became me.
Laya's p.o.v.
According the short haired girl, Penelope. Triad was already to close and we're going to have to fight. Jed glanced back at me and I'm sure he could see the nerves growing. He smiled and pulled me into a hug. As the hug slowly ended he leaned his forehead against mine. "I don't wanna loose you," I barely got that out with the huge lump in my throat.
Jed smiled softly at me. "Your not," he whispered. "Because we're gonna get out of here after this, okay? We're gonna move to Mexico and grow old, but according to Kaleb he will be staying in a nice little room above the garage," I chuckled softly "An-and we're gonna have kids. If it's a boy we'll name in Rafael, in honor of Rafael, and if it's a girl we'll name her...." I pondered the thought for a moment before answering.
"Hope."
He nodded with a big goofy grin, "Hope," he repeated. I don't really know where I got the name from, but I like it.
"If we have a daughter we'll name her Hope."
Lizzie's p.o.v.
I peeled my eyes open and found myself laying on a stretcher. I pulled myself up and internally groaned at the sight of Genie. "Damn you Genie," I muttered turning to face the wall. "It's Jinn- never mind. Don't be so hard on yourself, even if your father did just lock you up in a cellar for your own safety. Third wish is always tricky. Better luck on your next one," I furrowed my eyebrows at the blue woman.
"My next one? I-I get another wish?" I could've screamed of joy. "Whoever told you a Jinni only grants three?" I glanced down at the ground in front of me. "Aladdin! Every Genie story ever," the woman was quick to correct me. "A jinni can grant or ignore any wish they choose. We won't work against our own self-interest, so you can forget about wishing me dead. But if you'd like another wish to reset your life right back to where we began, I can do that. On one condition," I let out a relieved sigh I didn't realize I was holding in.
"Anything. What?" I could almost sense the answer that was about to come over from the blue woman before it happened. "You give me the urn," I chewed the inside of my cheek. "Oh, I knew you were gonna screw me. You used my words against me, right from the start," Genie chuckled from behind me. "Like you said, I'm a monster. Should've trusted your gut," I spun to her exasperatedly.
"You trapped me in the worst situation imaginable, just so you could get what you want!" I exclaimed. "The urn is a small price to pay to cease suffering like this." "You don't know anything about suffering," she seemed angered by my retort. "Don't I? As all Jinn are, I was born into five centuries of suffering. 500 years of realizing other people's dreams before I'd ever have the chance to pursue one of my own. And in the 499th year of my term, I crossed paths with a true monster. And it consumed me, sent me to a place of total isolation, utter damnation."
"Malivore. I know. So what?"
"I wandered there lost and alone, until I was given one final chance to win my freedom. So accept my offer and wish me the urn," I rolled my eyes. "If I wish you the urn, I'm giving you the key to a supernatural apocalypse. Isn't that technically against your self-interest?" I questioned.
"Quite he opposite. It's my only hope. Because if I return the urn to Malivore, then I am free, and at peace. Whatever happens after that is not my problem," I glared into the woman who almost looked like she was about to cry.
"Selfish."
"Said the pot to the kettle. I don't know why we're debating, this life is dreadful. So wish it away!"
I turned away trying to think. "Shut up, okay?! Justโ I need to think. I need to find a loophole," my mind wandered at the thought. What could get me out of this? "There is no loophole," I shook my head at this. "Magic always has a loophole," I turned back to her. "Yeah? Well, your better fine it quickly. Things are taking of a hell of a turn up there," she pointed to the ceiling. "What do you mean?" Her head tilted slightly as she held her fingers in the air, and she snapped.
I turned around and noticed my dad chatting with someone else. "Dad?" he turned around as I strutted over. "Lizzie. Did Penelope let you out? We've been working on getting the right dosages for you," I followed him while he slowly walked away. "What are we doing? Are we hiding?" I questioned. "No, we're fighting," I could feel myself smile, but only a small one at the good information. "Triad got wind of our location," we walked by witches holding what looked like mason jars with glowing red balls of light. "With Josie gone we decided to take a stand and put an end to this once and for all," the vampires were getting ready.
"Oh god, you're gonna get slaughtered. And it's all my fault," he stopped to turn to me. "No, it's my fault. I should've never kept that secret from you," my worry changed quickly to curiosity. "What secret?" "Your mom and I had been waiting for for the right time to tell you a piece of your family history. We waited too long," I shook my head slightly. "What family history?" I whispered. "There's something that happens when twins are born into your coven, like you and Josie. When you turn 22 the Gemini must merge," his eyes were filled with guilt but I was still confused by his way of wording things.
"Merge?" "It's a battle of will. Only the strongest of the two twins will survive it," I slowly started to understand what he was saying. "So one of us would have to kill the other?" I asked softly. "We've been trying to find a way to prevent it ever since you two were little kids. That's why your moms off traveling. We tried to keep it from you for as long as we could, but when we turned the house into a rescue operation one of the witches of who was passing through, told you the story of the Gemini, and you..." he paused.
"Dad, What did I do?" my words came out shakily which matched my nerves. "You got scared. You had one of your episodes and you went dark. Paranoid. To you, Josie became your biggest threat. You be maw obsessed with winning, and then you lost control," I couldn't stop the tears that were brimming my eyes. "I killed her," I couldn't believe it. I killer my twin sister. "It was an accident;" I shook my head. "No matter how you say it... I killer her. You just hate me so much." I muttered.
"No. The only person I hate is myself for failing you both," I shook my head again not wanting any of his to be real. "No. Dad, I've been to other places, other realities, and I know that sounds crazy, but you need to believe me. You always do everything that you can to protect me and Josie. Time after time. World after world," my father didn't really looked like he believed me as he stared at me. "Then I wish we could be in one of your other worlds right now," I stepped forward need to get closer.
"No matter what happens, I need you to hear this. To believe me. There's a world where your dream came true. You built a school for me and Josie, and it was so beautiful. And we were safe and loved. And you helped so many people. And I was just too stupid- too stupid and jealous to see it," my dad was almost a blur now with the tears that swelled at my eyes. "In this other world, did I tell you about the merge?" I sent him a curt nod no. "Then I guess we were both stupid, huh?" I wanted to scream and shake my head at him, but all I could do was stand there staring with tears distorting my vision.
ย "It's time," I turned around even though I knew it was Penelope. My dad walked by me and it took a minute to process "No, Dad, Wait. I can get us out of this. I just need to think," he stopped and slowly turned back to me. "That's a good idea. You think, baby," he stepped closer to me and grabbed the back of my head gently. He pulled me closer to him and kissed my forehead. "I love you," his voice cracked causing me to shudder. "I love you so much," he turned back around and trudged over to Penelope.
ย "Let's go give them their war."
The crowd cheered and they ran off while I stood where I was almostย frozen in my spot. I hurried over to the stairs and sat down on the bottom step pushing my hands against my ear rocking back in fourth. "Think. Think. Think," I muttered. "Not exactly your strong suit," that voice, the voice that had become so evil to me. She sat down next to me while I glared forward. "This would honestly go so much easier if you would just accept my offer," my head whipped his way. "Zip it, Smurfette. I know there's a way we can both get what we want. I just have to think of the prefect wish," my eyes flickered back to the ground.
"As I've told you, I will not grant you anything unless it involves me finding peace," I turned back to her "Yeah and I said quiet!" I yelled. A loud explosion pierced my ear, "Maybe you need a little incentive," she held her fingers together and before I could even blink I was in the middle of the war. The mason jar the witches had filled earlier flew across the air, "INCOMING!" I could tell the difference between Triad and kids from the school. I watched as Jed attacked one of the men,but the man pushed him to the ground. He held a small dagger over Jed's heart and Laya ran
up "Icaeus!" The man flew backwards and her eyes flowed bright Steele blue.
ย I watched as men surrounded my dad and he was forced to fight against the men. Another mason jar soared across the air and landed on the ground, wisps of smoke erupting from the explosion. Iย turned back to the blue woman who's face almost g of no emotion. "Incentivized?" Time seemed to slow as I watched the battle go on. "Okay, Fine. Bouncing through your wonky worlds taught me something. I am selfish. I've made mistakes. But giving you the urn would be the biggest mistake of all. It could ruin everyone's life, destroy my father's dream of making any reality a better place. It's bad enough that I did that to him, time after time. I can't do that again."
ย "You sure about that?" I turned around and watched as two Triad members slowly overcame my dad. I spun around "When I fix this, he'll be fine. And I won't give you the satisfaction of breaking me," she stared coldly in my direction "You were already broken thats way I chose you in the first place," her face contorted into a scowl. "That just means that you can't break me anymore. So read my lips. I am never wishing you that urn. You want it so bad? Why didn't you just take it when it was right in front of you?" her eyebrows did a wiggle when it clicked.
ย "Because you can't. That's it, isn't it? You said it yourself. You can only do what someone wishes you to do. That's your curse. And you are just as broke as I am. But I know who to fix you," "How?" she sneered. "By winning your stupid game. I wish that you had never met the monster that sent you to Malivore," she looked surprised as she seemed to scan our surroundings.
"Huh. If I never went to Malivore..." she trailer off "You'd have completed your 500 years of service," she exhaled sharply "I'd be free." "Thats my wish. Take it or leave it," her eyebrows raised with am impressed look. "Your wish is my command." "Boom. Suck on that!" I exclaimed. "But There's a catch. We will never have met either, which means..." she paused again "I won't remember the merge," I whispered. "Not consciously. You'll be just like all those pour souls I helped over the centuries who us d their final wishes to reset their realities," I gulped "What happened to them?"
"They found their worlds just as they left them. Only their minds weren't. Because somehow our journeys stayed with them and slowly drove them insane. It's like you said, there's always a loophole with magic. And when you find out your father's secret, as you inevitably will, history will likely repeat itself, and you'll kill Josie all over again."
I shook my head "I take it backs I wiโ" she held her hand in the air with her fingers pressed it together. "Thank you for my freedom, Lizzie."ย "No. I said wait!" I cried. She snapped her fingers and when I opened my eyes I was staring at the mirror. "Lizzie. Lizzie. Lizzie," I turned to my sisters voice and she opened the door. "Please don't be mad at dad," I stared at her longingly not even knowing why I was about to do what I was about to do. I rushed over to her and pulled her into a bear hug. "Oh. What's happening? Why are you suffocation me?"
"I have no idea."
I smeared peanut butter over the piece of bread. "Look, I don't know when it started, but on a fundamental level, I think I'm broken. And this is all very sudden, but I just for whatever reason, have this feeling that something terrible is gonna happen if I don't change."
I knocked lightly on my dad's office door. He peered up at me and I smiled. "You got a sec?" he closer his book and stared at me. "Well this morning's evidence to the contrary, I always have time for you. What's on your mind?" I stepped into the room. "I'm sorry about earlier," my dads face held shock, probably by my apology, but I continued not letting it affect me. "Mom gave me all of these tools to manage my ups and downs, but... they all go out the window when it comes to Hope."
"That seems pretty self aware. What brought this on?" I thought about the answer to the question. "I don't know," I muttered "Well... maybe it'll come to you. In the meantime I appreciate you trying," a smile made it's way to my face as I stepped even closer to my dad. "I love you, dad," I pulled him into a hug, hug not before he answered, "Aw. I love you too, Sweetheart," he let out a grunt as I pulled away. I glanced down and noticed the book my dad was reading earlier "What's that?" I questioned.
"Oh. This is... nothing you need to worry about."
I smiled one last time before walking out of his office. I trudged through the halls. 'The thoughts in my head, I think that they have something to do with Hope.' I kept walking when I noticed Hope walked up with whole bunch of random items.
"Hey."
ย "Hey."
"What's all that?" I questioned looking down at the objects in her grasp. "Oh, I was thinking we could spell a barrier around the urn so when the next monster shows up, we can trap it. Want to help?" I could feel myself stare at her confused. "Pass." I strutted by her.
'But I cant put my finger on it. I feel like I'm loosing my mind. Any thoughts?"
I twisted the cap on the jelly as I could as tight as I could and turned to the small child sitting at the counter. "I don't know Lizzie. Sounds like you got a lot going on," a small smile set in as I watched the boy take a big bite out of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. "Isn't it pass your curfew, Pedro?" he shrugged "Go to bed. And leave the sandwich," the little boy looked disappointed. "But you said you wanted to talk," he whined. "Did I?" I sighed as Pedro jumped down and handed me the sandwich.
"Can't imagine why."
