"How long do you think it'll be before the next monster shows up?" it was 2:00 am in the morning and I was standing next to Hope in the middle of Dr. Saltzman's office. He pulled some books off of his shelf. "It's hard to say. I've never actually seen an artifact glow before. Where did you hide the urn by the way?" I sent Hope a warning glance and she nodded. "I'm not sure I should tell you," she looked back at Dr. Saltzman who dropped his books on his desk.
"Excuse me?" she shrugged "Isn't it safer if only one of us knows," she asked. Dr. Saltzman looked at me and I held his stare. "I bet you twenty bucks Laya knows doesn't she," Hope rolled her eyes at his immature statement. "That's different she can read my mind," I shrugged with a small grin on my face. "Either way that one of us should be an adult," he turned to me and I rolled my eyes. "Funny, I thought it should be the one of us with high-level superpowers," I snorted under my breath hoping no one would notice. "What do we tel everyone else?" I asked softly. "We should probably warn them before a Cyclopes crashes exam week," I nodded at Hope.
"It's usually best to start with some form of the truth," he leaned back against his desk and Hope look amused. "What about those times the truth is the in thing you can't say," her words trailed off into a whisper. "Are you sure you wanna keep all of this from Landon? I mean I understand you wanting to protect him, but..." Hope was staring at the ground before looking up at the headmaster. "He's been wondering about his mother his whole life," she shook her head. "He finally meets her then she dies. If I can keep him from knowing what that feels like then it's worth it," she sighed and glanced at the ground before looking back up at Dr. Saltzman again.
"Look, it's my secret to keep, Dr. Saltzman. Please," he nodded "Okay." "Thank you," she whispered. "The trick is to give everyone the right amount of information without giving away to much. We've been through this before with the knife, so it shouldn't come as to much of a shock. This is our chance to do things differently, more responsibly," I chuckled softly and Dr. Saltzman. "When have we ever done anything responsibly," he placed his hand over his heart pretending to be offended."You wound me Laya," I giggled again.
Dr. Saltzman called a school meeting and I was sitting with the wolves. "Yesterday, I came into possession of another Malivore artifact. It was my hope to find a method of containment before it signaled another monster," I noticed Landon looking around our eyes locked and he raised his eyebrows questioningly. I shrugged pretending like I didn't know anything. I was drawn out of my thoughts by Dr. Saltzman's voice. "But given the emergency meeting I've just called, I'm sure you can guess how well that went," the words sent the student into fits of murmurs.
"Did you see Hope anywhere," Rafael shrugged and looked at me. I mimicked is actions and turned back to our headmaster. "But rest assured we are taking every precaution. Sheriff Donavan has been kind enough to open the doors of the Lockwood mansion to us, so Mr. Williams and Ms. Tig are now in the process of evacuating our students from the lower grades," I sighed. Well there goes my volunteer time. I'm pretty sure I'm the only kid that would be disappointed by missing out on volunteering, but those kids were cool. And technically I wasn't supposed to have favorites but Pedro stayed attached at my hip and he's so sweet.
"Why don't we just evacuate the damn artifact?" Kaleb questioned. "We are much more well-equipped than the world at large to handle the arrival of a monster. Once we know what we're dealing with and the problem is contained then we can reassess what to do with the artifact. If any of you would like to evacuate, please tell Dorian or Emma. However, exam week will continue as scheduled wherever you are. I know I'm sorry. I can't exactly call the state accreditation board and tell them that we're canceling the exams because of monsters," I groaned and leaned back laying against the table I was sitting on. Rafael layed back against the table next to me and I smiled.
"We'll get through this, I promise. Try and get some rest, okay. Goodnight ," I watched as people walked out but Rafael stared at me. "What are you thinking about," I laughed softly "A lot," I whispered back in response. "Wanna talk about it," I shook my head "Not really." He sighed and sat up "Well whenever you do... I'm all ears," I nodded and sat up next to him. "As am I," his eyebrows furrowed making me click my tongue. "You don't think I wouldn't notice that vacant expression in your eyes," he chuckled softly and looked down at my outfit. "And you didn't think I wouldn't notice the fact that you haven't changed since the day before yesterday. What's going on Laya,or the fact that you left me in your room alone" I scoffed "I was saving your best friend that I don't remember saving so chill," the last part was a lie but I didn't care.
"You guys got back with Landon last night so why haven't you changed?" I sighed "Last night I had to talk to Hope, I'm sorry I accidentally fell asleep in her dorm. Raf I'm really sorry I left you alone ," he sighed too "I'm sorry," he breathed out. "Don't be," I knew why I was angry. Because he cared and I feel like I can't tell him anything. "I'm sorry too," he smiled and wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug. "Well now that that's over," I looked back at Landon and giggled. "Can we go back to sleep," I nodded and followed the boys walking them to their rooms. Rafael nodded but landon seemed to be energized.
"Hopes m.i.a.," I nodded "Yeah she's probably suiting up in her battle armor," I laughed "Made of the bones of her enemies," Landon rolled his eyes with a smirk tugging at his lips and Rafael chuckled. "The girl is basically Wonder Woman," I nodded "Oh my god," I whispered "I'm super man," they both laughed at my childish statement which made me feel a little better about not telling them everything that I knew. "Either that or she's realized she's made a mistake bringing me back here 'cause where I go, danger follows," I shook my head. "Don't say that," Rafael sighed and stop walking making me turn to him.
"Come on, bro. Now this one is not on you," I nodded from behind Rafael. "I mean her being distant today has got to have something to do with us waking up in a field right?" Rafael looked at me and I shook my head. "If she remembers something I would too. I can see her memories," I felt awful filling Landon with false hope. Rafael took a step closer to Landon "Look, until one of you can remember how you guys got there, I just... I-I just wouldn't think about it. Look you're here. Think about the good things in your life instead of getting caught up in the bad for once, bro," Landon nodded slowly.
"Yeah." "Uh, I'm gonna grab my bags and hit the library," my ears perked up at the sound of that magical word. "Okay," Landon replied. "Can I come too?" Rafael looked back at me surprised. "I kinda need to clear my mind and reading has always helped so..." Rafael and nodded and pulled Landon into a hug. They slowly pulled her apart and Rafael questioned his friend "I'll see you at breakfast in the morning?" Landon nodded and looked down "Yeah see you at breakfast," Landon sent me a small wave and walked away. "Hey lan," Rafael called out making the boy turn around.
"I'm glad you're back."
I waited for Rafael outside of his door. After a few minutes I pulled the curtain away a little and stared out the window watching the teacher help the little kids get into the Salvatore school bus. I heard the door open and Rafael walked out with his backpack in hand. "You ready," I nodded and followed him to the library creating small talk along the way. Once there I left Rafael at a desk so I could go get a book. I walked over to the poetry and started to look. Strolling through the rows of books I made my way to the Edgar Allan Poe section. I noticed the Tell-tale heart sitting their looking like a good read and I smirked as I pulled it out of place and made my way back to where I left Rafael.
When I got back to the table open notebooks were sprawled open all over the place and Rafael was furiously scribbling notes as I sat down. By the time I flipped to page 17 I could feel someone wrap my hand in theirs I looked down and Rafael had my hand in his. He was still writing but much slower now and I smiled softly before leaning my head down on my other arm lazily. After a few more pages I could feel drowsiness overcome me and I looked at Rafael who was barely staying awake as well.
Slowly I closed my eyes and fell into the deep void, called sleep. When I opened them again Hope walked over to Rafael and put her pointy finger over her mouth. I nodded and she wrapped her hand around Rafael's bicep making me a little angry. I internally rolled my eyes. I am not jealous. "Raf," he groaned "Hey," he looked up at me "I passed out, huh?" I nodded looking around. "Somethings not right," I whispered to myself, but I don't think anyone noticed. Hope chuckled softly "You're very cute when you sleep," I could feel my eyebrows furrow as I watched was happening.
"What?" Rafael questioned. "What," Hope repeated. This can't be real something wrong. Then it clicked. I'm in his dream "Um, sorry, but I thought you said, um... You know what forget it. My brains fried," he went to grab his stuff and I picked up some of his books handing them to him. "Then maybe you should take a break," she grabbed his jaw and pushed his face so he was looking at her. She grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him into a kiss. I bit hard into the inside of my cheek. So he's dreaming about Hope.
Rafael completely melted into the kiss when suddenly things went dark and when we turned around a middle aged dirty blonde hair man slammed his hand on the desk making me flinch. "Where is it," the man yelled. "Kurt," Rafael looked terrified "What are you doing here?" Rafael's face looked terrified and I wanted to look away feeling like I was invading his privacy. "You pathetic little punk where the hell is," Rafael backed away scared "Where's What ugly," I questioned and the man turned to me with a glare before turning back to Rafael. "You know what I want," the man pushed the books down roughly and I whispered a spell under my breath putting them back on the table. "I don't know what you want. I don't know," Rafael cried making my heart shatter for him.
The man pulled out a belt and Rafael gulped the storm outside created a loud thunder sound when a woman dressed in a black dress with a veil appeared out of nowhere. "You know... what I want," the man pulled his belt in the air and the woman shrieked loudly as I jumped up in front of Rafael making the belt hit my arm. I screamed loudly only remembering once when my mom did that to me as I jumped up and looked at Rafael. He was panting as he stared at me in awe. "You-you were in my dream," I nodded and looked down at our still entwined hands. "Because we were touching," he looked down at her hands when his eyes widened in surprise. "Your arm," I looked down at the arm where the man hit me and gasped. There printed into my skin was red mark that looked like it was going to quickly become a bruise.
It was now 7 am I was sitting in Dr. Saltzman's office next to Rafael and he Hope was studying the mark on my arm. "This happened to you in a nightmare, your sure," Rafael nodded and Dr. Saltzman turned to me. "And you were in the dream because you were holding hands," I looked down nodding hoping no one would notice my embarrassment by my face. Dr. Saltzman still looked hesitant though."Look I know that it sounds crazy but I was studying and then I grabbed Laya's hand and then she fell asleep and then I fell asleep, and then I just started dreaming about..." he paused "About what?" Hope questioned and I waited for an answer.
"Um... One of my old, uh foster dads. He was in the library and he had this old belt that he - that he used to use on me and Lay-Laya jumped up when he was about to hit me and took the hit. "Do you remember anything else," Rafael looked at her with almost fear like he hated that dream. "Yeah, there was this woman there, too. She was wearing an-an old black dress and a veil," I told them Rafael looking distant. I didn't tell them about Hope being in his dream because if he didn't tell them about the Hope part then I'm sure there was a reason, and I already bad enough about being in his dream. Rafael spoke up "And she told me, "You know what I want" but..." he trailed off and I looked at Hope.
She nodded and turned to Dr. Saltzman "The urn," I stated. "Sounds like our next monster showed up. You know, every culture on Earth as legends about creatures that only appear in dreams," he walked over to his bookshelf "But a woman in a black dress and veil is pretty specific," he grabbed the book he wanted and walked back over to in front us flipping through the pages. "So does that mean she can, like control what we see in our dreams," Rafael asked. I don't blame him, he must be wondering about Hope. "That she can put stuff in our, in our heads, right?" Dr. Saltzman looked up from his book at Rafael. "It's possible," Raf nodded slowly and Dr. Saltzman turned the book around to a certain page and handed it to Rafael.
"Does that look familiar," I stood up and read it over his shoulder Rafael and I looked up at the same time and nodded.
"Our latest monster is a night hag, a malevolent spirit trapped on the astral plane that can only interact with us through dreams. In this case, nightmares," M.G. raised his hand "So like Freddy Krueger?" I sighed and turned to Raf. "Why did you tell them about Hope," he looked at me "Because I don't understand why Hope was in my dream," "Come one Raf I need a better excuse than that to lie to my friend," he sighed softly. "If that thing feeds off of fears I think one of mine might be betraying Landon with Hope," my eyebrows furrowed as I groaned "You couldn't have chosen someone else to lie to," it took him a minute before realizing what I was talking about.
"It's fine," I whispered more to myself than him. "I can hide that memory from her for about two and a half days, will that be long enough," he pondered for a moment and nodded before we turned back to the main conversation. "Now I've lined up more evacuation shuttles. They should be running all afternoon, so please, for those who don't want to stay and fight take advantage of them. All right that's all," I sighed turning to Raf. "Hey I told M.G. I was gonna help him study for his presentation okay," he nodded and stood up heading for the library.
I was reading some random book about Dracula and writing down as many things that I could find about the old vampire. I flinched when Kaleb slammed the book down in between me and M.G. making him jump too. "Yo, what-what is this? You can't say these things about Big D, my man. Okay? Like the guy, you can't you..." he got cut off my a groggy looking M.G. "Is that my presentation?" he questioned. "Yo, just because you need to dry out does not mean you need to take out the entire vampire canon," I rolled my eyes "Lay off Kaleb," M.G. grabbed the notes out of Kaleb's hands. "Just because vampires have been like this for the last century doesn't mean we have to stay that way," he looked at me and I handed him all my notes proud of him for standing up for himself.
Thank you he mouthed to me before walking off pushing Kaleb by his shoulder on the way. "What are you...? M.G. What?" Kaleb looked at me and I shrugged "I need to talk to Hope," I stood up and handed Kaleb my book.
5:00
Dr. Saltzman's voice played over the intercom. "The senior witch faculty has mixed together a batch of energy herbs to help you stay awake. So for those of you who are not getting on the evacuation bus, for lack of a better term, please dose yourselves responsibly," I pulled the door open to Dr. Saltzman's office just to hear him say "I'm gonna get sued," I could feel my eyebrows furrow as I stepped and pulled the door shut. "Or hexed at the very least," hope had Landon's hand in hers and I thought that was completely adorable until I noticed the bleeding wound on his palm that she was healing. "You don't have to be so hard on yourself. At my last school the gym teacher was dealing coke under the bleachers," I snorted into my hands as I turned to Dr. Saltzman.
"Oh, yeah that only makes me feel marginally better," I laughed softly at my dramatic headmaster. "Ow," Landon whispered. "Hey,uh, hold still. I'm almost done, okay?" he nodded "Okay. What do you think she meant when she said "bring it home?"" I'm sure he must've been talking about the night hag. "I'm guessing she means Malivore. It seems her plan is to torment us until we produce the urn," I gulped as I looked up at my Dr. Saltzman. "Right, but if the night hag, is a monster that is trapped on the astral plane, then how can she even physically take the urn anywhere," i could feel my eyes widen in surprise. "That's a good question," Dr. Saltzman replied "Yeah, the book also says the book also says the night hag can affect our reality, but... Laya's welt and your hand seemed to prove that wrong. When your research consists of fairy tales, and urban legends , sometimes the stories get twisted ," I nodded.
"Human dragon, anyone," I laughed at Hope's statement. "Dorian might be busy with the evacuation, but we'll figure this out. When the Night Hag finds a way to get the urn, we'll be there to stop it," Landon looked back down at his hand. "Well, at least it was a pretty memorable first day," I sighed looking down feeling bad for the human. "Yeah and the Night Hag is likely just getting started. You know Landon I really wish you'd just evacuate with others," I rolled my eyes. "Obviously he can handle himself. I mean he knew about the pain waking him up," I looked back at Landon "Besides you gave us an option," "I worked so hard to get here. If I run at first sign of trouble, what's the point?" Landon spoke up.
"The point, Landon, is that we're trying to look after you," Landon have Hope a strange look. "Honestly, you three are taking better care of me than anyone in my life ever has. Course, I had to stab myself to get your attention," he was talking to Hope. She glanced at me and then back at her apparent boyfriend "You know, we're all good here," she stood up and walked out of the office with me following her. "Where are you going," she kept walking staring forward. "I need to write," I threw my hands in the air. "What am I supposed to do," she shrugged. "Go work out," I pondered the thought for a moment.
"Hey, that's a good idea thanks," she never responded so I walked to my dorm and got changed quickly.
I pushed the door to the gym open and stepped in. Grunts pull from Rafael's mouth as he hit the bag letting his anger out. "Hey," I greeted walking over to him. He paused breathing in and out heavily "Have something against the bag?" I questioned sarcastically. "Yeah I'm almost done here," he chuckled softly "I'll get out your way," he went to pull off his glove. "You know, no actually I could use a sparring partner," I pulled off my tank top and strapped on my glove. "If I don't punch someone I'm gonna fall asleep,"sweat was already pulling on his forehead "Yeah. All right," I smirked and lunges for him.
I punched him in the face, I punched him two more times but he blocked the shots, "Your being too gentle." "I'm punching you with half of my weight," I smirked pulling my fists in front of my face protectively, "Give me all of it." I punched him and he narrowly missed it ducking under my hand he grabbed my hand about to twist it. "That's gonna hurt," I rolled my eyes "No it's not," I ripped my hand from his hold and went for his face. He pushed my hand to the side and went for my gut as I blocked his hit and tried to punch him in the throat but he blocked it. I went to roundhouse kick but he backflipped out of the way before jumping back up. I punched him again and hit him in the shoulder I went to kick him again but he grabbed my foot and flipped me over.
I twisted the flip to kick him in the nose. "Don't make me take you down. I have do desire to be the alpha here," he wiped his nose and I went to punch him again. He pushed my fist out fo the way before punching me in the arm. He kicked my thigh and I fell to the ground with a groan holding myself up on my hands and knees. "Laya. You good?" he went to help me up and I grabbed his arms twisting them behind him forcing him to ground. He breathe heavily as I held his hand next to his throat. He tapped his shoulder three times making me laugh I layed down next to him and placed my hands on my chest. "Damn woman," I laughed and looked at him before looking back up at the ceiling. He sighed and then I sighed. I turned to him.
"I'm really sorry about all the things that happened to you in your life that made you so good at brawling, but I really needed that just now," I chuckled and glanced at him one last time before staring at the ceiling. "Listen..." he sat up and I gulped sitting next to him. "I don't mean to get in your business, but... what's going on with you lately you seem off," I shrugged "To me I seem fine. Why?" he sighed looking down "Don't tell Dr. Saltzman I told you this, but he told me about a really bad nightmare that you had before this Night Hag lady showed up and he was wondering if I could get you to talk about it so," I pulled my tank top back on and sighed. "So you wanna see if I'll talk about it," he chuckled softly and nodded. I thought about what I all I was gonna tell him. "Can I show you something," he nodded and I scooted closer to him.
I placed my hands on his sweaty cheeks and closed my eyes. Suddenly I was watching my whole crappy life go by like a movie. Metias dying, my mother dying, my father premiering not to blame. I watched as I opened the door to his room and found his hung from the room, I watched as Marcel walked in the room behind me and grabbed my hand pulling me out quickly. Suddenly I had to go through watching my brother getting impaled by an arrow from Dr. Saltzman's crossbow. I watched myself meet Hope all over again. Then Jed, then I watched myself kiss Jed for the first time. I watched everything that has happened since Landon and Rafael got here from my point of view. I've never shown one person that much of my life the only people who knew really everything were Hope, and Dorian.
When I opened my eyes, I expected him to run and hide. To avoid me at all costs but when I opened my eyes he looked surprised, "Wow." I laughed softly "Well you beat me on the crappy life," I rolled my eyes. "That's not what I was trying to point out genius," he nodded "I'm sorry," I shrugged. "How are you so okay with everything," I smiled softly. "There comes a day when you're realize turning the page is best feeling in the world, because you realize there is so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on," he looked impressed as his eyebrows raised. "Zany Malik. Dorian made me memorize that when I first got here," laughter spilled out of his mouth as he wiped a small tear from his eye. "That's actually pretty cool," "Thanks... but can you do me a favor," he nodded and waited for me to finish "Please don't tell anyone about what I just showed you," he sighed and hesitantly nodded.
"Okay. We keep each other's secrets," I pulled him into bear hug and when we pulled away he leaned his forehead against mine. "Why aren't you running," I whispered "Because I'm not scared of you. You are the most perfect thing that's happened in my life , the fact that you been through so much just means you still are human," I smiled softly at him "I hate you." His eyebrows furrowed confused "What did I do," I laughed "You made me actually like you," he smirked. I pulled my forehead away from him. "I need to talk to Dr. Saltzman," he sighed "I'm sorry that I keep ditching you like this," he shook his head at me "It's fine," I smiled and pulled him into yet another hug. "Thanks for being there for me Raf. Even when it felt like no one else was," I walked out of the room worry overwhelming my senses. I started to feel dizzy and fell to the ground.
A low growl escaped my lips as Dr. Saltzman's face came into view. 'Calm down' I squeezed my eyes shut trying to do what Hope instructed me to, but when I looked down I could see my claws coming out of my fingers and I rolled over. I breathed in and out and a memory played behind my eyes like a movie.
"Find you anchor, someone who keeps you human." I growled lowly as I looked up at my brother.
Visions of Hope played through my mind, then Dorian, and Rafael, and Jed and when I opened my eyes I didn't see everything in a blue tint anymore. "What the hell happened?" Hope questioned as I stared at the ground. "People react to fear different ways, some get angry," I looked down guiltily. How could I not be angry I'm lying to everyone. My best friend, Rafael, Landon, but those Werner even the big ones. Everyday when I wake up I lie pretending that I'm fine. Pretending that I am every day people would never know.
"I'm fine."
"You sure?" I nodded "I'm not trying to kill you so yeah. I think I'm pretty fine," Dr. Saltzman sighed "As long as you promise your fi-" I interjected quickly "I'm fine," Landon grinned brightly. "Great because I have something for you guys," we followed him into the library. "Let's pretend for a second that the research isn't wrong. Maybe he Night Hag can't hurt us in real life, maybe the Night Hag can't leave the astral plane and get a hold of the urn, so maybe we're not dealing with a Night Hag," I could feel my eyes narrow confused. "Well if it walks like a Night Hag and talks like a Night Hag. What else could it be?" Landon smiled obviously happy to be of some use. "That's exactly what I was wondering, so then I started going through all these books, and boom," Hope walked over to read the book.
"What's an Oneiroi?" I looked up at Dr. Saltzman waiting for an answer. "It's a black-winged shapeshifting dream demon from Greek mythology," Dr. Saltzman picked up the book off of the table "Yeah, of course he knows what it is," I giggled softly. "Why would one monster disguise itself as another monster? The Oneiroi sounds freaky enough," I looked up at Hope after reading the page. "Because if we knew what it actually was..." "We'd know how to stop it," I finished and Landon looked at me before nodding. "Hope, kiss him for me," Dr. Saltzman walked off with the book in hand and Hope glanced at Landon awkwardly making me laugh.
"A black-winged what?" I sat next to M.G. "Shapeshifting dream demon," Hope and Landon replied in unison. "Couple goals," I whispered in M.G.'s ears mockingly making him laugh. "I know it sounds bad, but now that we know what the creature is we can fight it," Raf glanced at me and turned to Hope. "How the hell are we supposed to kill a dream demon," he questioned. "Leave that part to me. But since I can fall asleep without compromising the location of the urn, I need someone else to pull it out of the dream plane and into our waking reality," M.G. looked at me confused "Wait then why is she here can't she see your thoughts," Hope sighed.
"I re-hid the urn and hid the memory from her," M.G. gasped and Hope nodded. "But so it is Freddy Krueger like I said," M.G. added causing me to roll my eyes. "Wait how the hell are we supposed to do that?" Rafael questioned. "If it's anything like the movies, we just grab and pull," I laughed softly "Yeah okay is it to late to get on the uh evacuation bus?" I rolled my eyes. "No. I mean, I'm not gonna ask all of you to stay for this, it has to be your choice," the three looked at each other. "I'm helping my best friend," I walked over to her. "And I'm not leaving until Hope does," Landon stood up off the couch. "We already know the answer to that, so..."I trailed off looking at Rafael. "I'm not leaving Landon behind," Rafael stood up and I grinned.
"I'm a founding member of the super squad, so I can't bail."
I giggled at M.G. and we all turned to Kaleb "Y'all gonna get yourselves killed," M.G. shrugged and Kaleb looked at me before sighing softly. "But if M.G. stays, I stay. No child left behind," I nodded and turned to Hope. "When I was younger I used to hate nap time," I complained making the others laugh.
I picked up a comforter and a pillow. I dropped the pillow but when I moved the comforter out of my vision I noticed Rafael grabbed it for me. I walked over to the circle that we were making and dropped my blanket down Rafael handed me my pillow and I thanked him before going and grabbing another blanket. When I came back Rafael was watching as Hope whispered something in Landon's ear and kissed his cheek. Hope pulled away from Landon and walked over to me. "If you get scared call me," I nodded and she smiled "Sweet dreams," I rolled my eyes and walked over to the cot I made.
I rolled over away from Rafael's side and squeezed my eyes shut. Laying there, on the cot I could feel myself grow drowsy as my eyes dropped down and I fell asleep.
I opened my eyes and Jed was staring back at me. He pulled me into a kiss, I backed up when I realized a wall was behind me. "What the heck," I whispered "You betrayed me," Jed whispered. I closed my eyes and shook my head. When I opened them again, I was staring at everyone, my family, Jed, Rafael, Hope, and Landon. "You betrayed us," there words came out in sync and I shook my head. "This isn't real," I whispered "You betrayed all of them," I looked up and the woman as there. "You betrayed them all Kelaya," I shook my head.
"Your a justify yourself for all the death around you and that makes you the worse kind of monster," I shook my head. "No I'm not," I grabbed the woman, but she evaporated into black wisps of smoke," 'Hope I got it' 'Okay I'm almost there'
I jumped up feeling tears brimming my eyes. "Are we alive," M.G. questioned and I jumped "Hope. Hope Where's Hope," I whispered "Did we win?" "Is everyone okay?" "You see any dead dream demons laying around?" 'HOPE' she didn't answer "Somethings wrong. Where is Hope," I questioned "She was in my dream and then I don't know he was gone," I shook my head and pulled Rafael to the side. "Somethings wring she's not answering," he nodded "It's okay. Alright I'm sure she's fine," I nodded slowly trying to silently pray that she was.
Rumbling came from the roof and the light swung around on the ceiling. "What's that?" Kaleb questioned. "Wait Wh-What was Hope doing in your dream?" I looked at Rafael waiting to see if he would answer truthfully. "The usual. Being a badass,"I rolled my eyes when a loud bang came from the front door and Hope and the demon flew in. "Pretty much like that," M.G. stepped forward to lunge.
"Stay back guys, I got this."
She jumped onto the thing and fell over grabbing Hope's throat. "Ignarius," I yelled and the thing flew off of her on fire. "Laya! Eyes," he threw the bow to me and grabbed it walking over to the demon laying on the ground. I ripped the bow in half and pushed the pieces into his eyes. Blood spilled out of his eyes and I gagged as the thing evaporated into black smoke. Hope strutted over to me and held her hand out for a high five. I slapped her palm with a large grin "Landon was right, sexy as hell," I laughed pulling Hope into a hug.
"That was awesome!" I exclaimed as I pulled away. We walked out of the gym looking pretty flipping cool to be honest.
I stepped out of my dorm and watched Rafael wall bye. "Hey," he turned to me and I walked over the dvd behind my back. "Great job tonight," I tried to compliment. "Thanks," he looked distant as he went to open the door to his dorm. "Are you okay," he turned to me. "You literally showed me your whole life today, and I'm pretty sure the only other one who knows that much about you is Hope," I shook my head "And Dorian," he laughed "Right." "Why do you trust me, I mean I've pretty nice to you and all, but I've never given you a good enough reason to trust me," I shrugged "I have a tendency to take a chances on people that other people might consider risky. But with Hope and Dorian I figured what the heck," he laughed some more.
"Plus I wanted you to forgive me, but that was only phase one," his eyes narrowed as I pulled out the teenage mutant ninja turtles dvd. "I'm really sorry I ditched you last night, but I was really hoping we could have a redo on the..." I trailed off kind of embarrassed.
"Sleepover?"
"Sleepover."
He nodded and my lips curled into a big goofy grin. "This is perfect I raided the cafeteria and in my bedrooms lays soda, candy, and most importantly popcorn," he laughed as I pulled him into my room. I walked over to my tv and pushed dvd in the little slide thingy and when I looked back instead of being in the other bed Rafael was sitting in mine looking through my sketch book. I ran over and grabbed it out of his hands. "That's kinda private," he gasped before nodding. "I'm sorry," I shook my head and closed the book placing it on my nightstand. "I'm actually can I see you draw," his question surprised me. "I've never seen an actual good artist before," I laughed "Yeah okay sure," I sat down and he wrapped his arm around me.
I pulled the book back open and flipped through the pages trying to find a clean one. Once I did it took me a moment to figure out what I wanted to draw
When I was done Rafael stared at me in shock. "That's beautiful," I smiled softly. "Thank you," I placed the book back down on my nightstand and grabbed the remote. We watched a few episodes and I paused pushing a piece of the buttery goodness in my mouth. "Okay... if you were any turtle which would it be," he thought about it for a minute and I grinned waiting for answer.
"Maybe Leo."
"Leo?"
"Yeah, Leo. Who do you think I'd be."
"Rafael!"
