Kaziel knows how to work efficiently and ruthlessly, and tries to bring that to his job every day. His goal, and his only goal, is to keep the Middle Prince alive and safe and try not to lose his own head in the process. The threat of execution for unsatisfactory service looms over him constantly, but it isn't the death part that scares him. It's the loss of income. When working, Kaziel tends to be aloof and cold, keeping his answers simple when questioned and obeying orders from the Prince immediately. But there is a big part of Kaziel that longs to be soft. He wants to be kind and gentle and never pick up a weapon again. But he needs the job. And besides, even if he wanted to leave, the royals would never let that happen. His soul is tied to the castle for eternity, and there is no getting away from that.

||3 Life Changing Experiences in the Palace||
-Just moving to the palace was a life changing experience for him in itself. For a while he couldn't shake the feeling that he'd just walked himself willingly into a prison he'd never escape. Now he tries not to think about it.
-Watching his first execution of a maid who was underperforming. It was gruesome and horrifying, and reminds him everyday to stay on his toes.
-Seeing the destroyed bodies of two staff members who tried to leave. A warning to the rest of them, certainly.

The only things he knows are from the other guards and staff, but it doesn't really matter what they tell him. He's decided they might as well all be dangerous, and he attempts to keep his distance.

What a headache. So much security to plan, so many procedures to learn, not to mention a whole gaggle of selected to heard around. Though the idea of having a conversation with someone who has seen the outside world so recently does mildly pique his interest.

Quite simply, Kaziel works at the palace because his family need the money. It was never really a choice.
