𝐱𝐱𝐢𝐢. kill to avenge
CONFUSION echoed in her mind as she sat criss-cross in her bedroom, her mind basically doing the same as she looked around the gray and pink room. Her head laid in her hands as she played with her necklace that laid on her chest.
By now, she would've been running the streets with the pogues but, here she laid with a cold rag placed on her head. She didn't regret it but she felt as if she abandoned them. Even if it was for the best, she still left. She felt like her father, and mother. I guess, it ran through the family line.
Distant chatter made her eyes furrow as she walked down the stairs only to see her uncle staring at the wall. Her gaze softened at the sight of her Uncle on the couch and her younger cousin who sat on his knee comfortably.
"What's up?" June let an accidental lost voice, looking around the room from the stairs. It was like Lia's eyes lit up at the girl, her long brown hair pushing past her shoulder as she ran up the stairs, "June!"
She let out a giggle at the sweet girl, "Hi!"
Lia smiled before letting it drop at her face, "Did you hear about my mom? Are you okay?" June furrowed her eyebrows, tilting her head as she fiddled with the girls hair, "What do you mean?"
June's heart dropped at her words, her knees that were once crouched went weak as she fell back onto the step, "Come here, Lee." She pulled the girl into the arms more for herself as she locked eyes with her father, fighting the welled up tears.
"I'm gonna go talk to your dad, okay? You can go in my room and play with whatever." Lia nodded sadly, walking past her.
June leaned against the wall, her head slowly leaning back more and more at every passing second. "One of you gonna tell me what happened?"
"Overdose." Her Uncle, Fez, said. "Aunt May doesn't do drugs, Fez. Why would she do that?" June protested, "Well, she obviously does do drugs, sweetheart." Her dad spoke sadly.
"There's no way. That's against everything mom wanted." June let out a chocked voice, tears welling in her ears. "Your mom is gone. Their in a better place together," As her uncle reached for her hand all she could do was scoff, walking to the other side of the room.
Lia danced in her room at the sound of her faint Taylor swift music from her phone, feeling like she was the star of the show. She didn't even understand what happened. Not one bit. And June was gonna make sure it didn't get out until she was older.
"I don't care about any of that shit right now, I wanna know what's gonna happen with Lia. Because a phone call would've worked, Fez." Her harsh voice made his heart lightly crack at what he was about to say.
"She's staying here. I can't take care of her. I already have her bags, but she thinks she's staying for a few days so don't say anything. It should come normal as she goes, okay? That's the plan." June was shattered at his words. Not at the fact she was staying, but the lies that laced his voice was like hell breaking loose.
"Your bull-shitting me right, dad? Your just gonna let him lie to a fucking 7 year old like that?" At the silence, June's arms flew up, her finger immediately going up to point at both men, "You both aren't shit."
Her stomps up the stairs were like a thousand verbal gun shots, her obvious anger was so unbearable. The slamming of her door echoed throughout the home.
Lia jumped lightly at the noise, looking at June with wide eyes, "Sorry, Lia. You like Taylor Swift?" She immediately switched the subject, wiping her tears as she moved to sit on her bed.
Lia tilted her head, smiling, "Who's that?" June laughed, pointing at the radio, "Your listening to her."
"Oh! Yeah, she's so cool!" Lia smiled, making June look to her feet with guilt. The little girl dancing infront of her reminded her of herself.
The little braid in her hair resembled the same one that laid on the picture frame on her dresser. Her dad was fucked up, mom dead— as she watched her dance, all she wanted to do was protect her.
Keep her. June knew that she needed somebody. Somebody to replace that. And even though they were both still so young she was gonna make all future wounds and current wounds disappear. Because God knows she wished somebody would've done that for her.
"Lee, let's go get some ice cream." June smiled, rushing towards her closet to grab her shoes. "Really? Yes!" Lia cheered, rushing after her to grab her hand.
That was her favorite thing as a kid. Every Friday her little family would go to the local shop, that was until it got torn apart, of course. Cookies and cream with two cherries and sprinkles, she would say every time they would go without fail.
"What do you want?" June asked, pulling her card out, "Superman is cream is that best." Lia argued, looking at her ice cream with a weird look, "Okay, this is as best as you can get. World famous! World fucking famous."
Lia rolled her eyes, "Superman ice cream is still better." June chuckled, grabbing the cup from the worker, "Thank you!"
Distant screaming made her head turn in confusion as she looked around, trying to find some kind of voice, "Kie! Kie, we're coming!" That voice. Her head swooped around, hearing the loud squeaks of metal. There Rafe Cameron was pulling a handle that could control the sewers and obviously, he had a vengeful look on his face.
Her heart pounded in her chest, taking a step back with Lia's hand in hers. June suddenly felt weak— vulnerable. Seeing him run away was like seeing him run towards her.
Lia furrowed her eyes, squeezing June's hand in confusion, "JuJu? Can we go now? My ice cream is melting." June couldn't even say anything just nodding as she quickly went the other way.
She was practically sprinting, looking behind her in a fast motion. She couldn't even look forward as she was scared something— or someone would've following her. But, she wished she would've paid attention when a body rammed into hers.
"June, thank god, we need your help!" JJ grabbed her hand, not even seeing the little girl beside her. "J! I can't. I told Kiara," June pulled back, shaking her head in denial at him.
Pope was growing more and more anxious, "Kiara is stuck in the sewers. She has to be drowning. It's Kiara, June." Pope had the girl wrapped around his finger when he said Kiara was in trouble.
Her eyes flicked to Pope and Lia before the girl sighed, letting a grunt and stomp out before she spoke, "Come on. Your gonna have to run okay?" June grabbed onto her hand, giving JJ a nod of approval.
The group sprinted down the street, the distant sound of water making June's heart rate fastened, "When I tell you close your eyes, you close your eyes, okay?" Lia nodded, continuing to run hand in hand, careful not to spill her ice cream.
"Look that way!" June demanded, pulling her body in that direction as she moved out the way.
"Pull it! Pull it up!" June pointed at the manhole holder, rushing to get on her knees as she put her hands in the holes, gripping tightly. "JJ! Pope!" Her distraught voice made her even more determined to help her, grunting as the three of them pulled.
Anxiety coursed through her veins as she no longer heard her screams, huffing in fear as she pulled and pulled. "Keep going! Kie!" June could only think about their last argument in the mitts of all of this. Her heart raced and blood pumped as she gripped the metal.
June couldn't help but fall backwards when I finally popped up, panting to herself. The coughing body of Kiara made her eyes widen as she pushed pope off, "Get off me!"
But, her thoughts were quickly stopped when Kiara pulled a gun out her pocket, "This isn't what we were looking for right?" The girl chuckled, but for noticing the sniffled laughs of June.
It was like she wasn't even worried about the gun, quickly handing it off to JJ as she let June lightly shove her, giving her a scared glare. Kiara only stared at her eyes, wanting nothing but to kiss her.
JJ and Pope glared confused, but quickly began laughing when June smiled, letting out a sobbed chuckle, "Fuckin' idiot!" June cried, squeezing her eyes shut as she pulled the girl into her arms.
Kiara let out a chuckle, her ears blessed by her laugh. "We're gonna get this son of a bitch!" JJ cheered, "Let's go, guys! Oh hey, Lia!" Pope smiled, grabbing her hand as he let June and Kiara help each other up.
"You did it, Kie! You did it!" JJ cheered, high-fiving the girl. "I did it!" Kiara smiled, grabbing the gun once again, "Let's get this to Shoupe."
June was now alone once again with the pogues, Lia at home sleeping peacefully. But, these scenarios just got worse and worse.
Kiara and the pogues sat in the Sheriff's office, arms crossed eyes they explained to him, "So, y'all are telling me this is the firearm Rafe Cameron killed Peterkin with? And apparently shot June with?"
"That's exactly what we're telling you," Shoupe only looked at June, "And the same firearm that Ward used to kill Gavin?" Shoupe was ruthless, denying the simple clues right infront of him. "And where's the dead body?"
"Didn't you look? Your the sheriff." June pointed out, shaking her head. "I checked the hospital, and his house. He was out." He shrugged, "He was out?" Pope grunted, "No shit! Cause he was dead!"
"Listen to yourself. It makes perfect sense." They pleaded, "Just because he was not in his home doesn't mean he's a victim of a homicide." Shoupe disagreed, hand set flat on the table, "What are you talking about?" Kiara grumbled to him, frustration filling their blood.
"Are you atleast gonna send this in for ballistics and shit, or are you just gonna sit on your ass?" JJ said, "Shut up!" Pope yelled. "It's not fair." Kiara cried, to Shoupe, only to be ignored.
"Oh? Im sorry did I hurt his feelings?" JJ teased, stepping up to his desk, "Get out. I have work to do, y'all are smelling up my office." June's jaw dropped, standing up almost immediately, "Your fucking serious?"
"Did Ward Bribe you? This doesn't make any sense." June was ballistic. How dare he not believe her? She had proof scars written all over her body, not to mention when he assaulted her in the park. "Some sheriff you fucking are, right? Might as well put my dad back in fucking office, your just as shit as him!" June stomped out, slamming a loud door behind her.
All that time she spent in the hospital. All the stitches she had to endure— she would never get that time back. And Shoupe wasn't helping either.
June kicked the trash cans that sat on the ground, grunting in pain at every kick. Her feet collided with the wall, the breeze in the air hitting her body with ease. Tears welled in her eyes, but they didn't fall. She was tired of crying. All she wanted to do was get revenge.
She wanted to kill Rafe Cameron.
