Author note: This is super sad but it was fun to write even though I cried a bit... I wrote during my holiday in the Czech Republic.
Warning: Angst I guess and mention of death
Prague, it was a city that he thought he would never see again ... not without you. But you were gone and he needed to accept that if he wanted to move on... will he ever move on?
Before everything, before Thanos, before the Civil War, before Sokovia, even before Loki, you were there. When he first woke up, 70 years after being put in ice, you helped and supported him. The friendship you two shared soon turned into love.
He would never forget how you dared to stand up for Bucky when you didn't even know him, just because he was Steve's best friend and you firmly believed that he could change. Soon, you started to like Bucky more and more, causing you to help him like you did previously with the Captain.
Everything was like a dream, Steve had both you and Bucky at his side, leaving him to feel happier than he ever was. He proposed to you, the wedding was even planned to be in two months.
But Thanos arrived... Steve lost everything that day: You, his best friend, his teammates and he couldn't even stop it.
"Steve? What's going on?"
You looked back at him as your hand started turning into dust. It didn't took you long enough to realize what was happening and your eyes were filled with tears of both fear and sadness.
" I'm sorry..."
As soon as those words left your mouth, your whole body turned into dust making disappear in front of him.
Now he was alone in Prague, in this city that he had visited with you. Every corner reminded him of you. Whether it was the astronomical clock that you had always admired with eyes full of wonderment or the Jewish neighbourhood with its great building of every colour pastel imaginable.
It was two years since that fateful day and the pain was still as vivid as before. He tried to move on, he really did, not for him but for you, he knew that you wouldn't want him to become a shallow copy of himself. But he also knew that this feeling of longing would never truly go away.
So he stood there, helpless, in what was once the most crowded place in Prague, now empty because of the snap... As memory flood back and tear started to run down his cheek, he vowed to himself to bring you back.
To bring you back, whatever it cost him.
