A/N- Hello everyone! I am extremely excited to post this weeks chapter because this is where our story really begins to pick up and the plot comes into play. I have decided that I want to make my chapters almost like a show. By that I mean opening credits, and longer chapters, just because it makes it fun for me to write.
I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it!ย

Nestled in the wealthiest penthouse, Wilson Fisk cooked his daily omelet, adding pinches of salt while the sweet sound of Nocturne in E flat major played softly in the background from his record player.ย
"Good morning, sir." His assistant and friend, James Wesley said softly as he walked into the room. His hands where clasped behind his back as he awaited a response.
"Wesley," Fisk said, as he plated the omelet carefully. "I didn't call for you." He said, rather aggressively knowing Vanessa was sound asleep in the other room, only minutes from awakening.ย ย
"I thought you would want to see this, sir." Wesley said, stepping forward and revealing the news paper from that morning, setting it down on the table in front of him.ย
Fisk looked down at the paper, taking it in his right hand as he stared intently at the front page.ย
"The devil seems to have an advocate." Wesley said, his British accent flowing like a river.ย
Fisk stared at the picture. The image of the Devil of Hells Kitchen flying into a window with the woman now known as The Devils Angel. Fisk may not have shown it, but inside he was fuming with anger. His jaw twitched as he placed the paper down. Looking over at Wesley his voice ravaged.ย
"Find them both," he paused, "kill them."ย
Wesley nodded, leaving the room as Vanessa walked in. She offered a smile, tugging tightly on the robe she wore.
"Good morning, Vanessa."ย

ย Chapter 4 || Baby, I love your way
"Here's to the first win of Nelson and Murdock!" Foggy cheered, raising a red solo cup that they had filled with cheep champagne from the liquor store down the road.ย ย
They all raised their glasses, cheering as the cups crushed together. They all took a sip, instantly being met with a continuous gagging noise from everyone in the room. Jess grabbed the trash near her, tossing the rest of her drink, including what was in her mouth.
"Foggy this tastes like ass." Matt said, his face bitter from the taste.ย
"We're still on a tight budget alright?" He said defensively, placing his cup down. He looked over at Jess who was chugging water down, desperate to get the taste of her tongue. "Really Jess, you did great today. That opening statement blew the court away." He said, nodding towards the girl who gave him a thumbs up, her eyes still watering.ย
"Foggy are you serious? Your cross- examination was one of the best ones I've ever heard. Even my old firm couldn't do that well."ย
Flattered by the statement, Foggy did an awkward bow. "Why thank you my dear lady."ย
Jess looked over at Mattย who's lips where formed into the mixture of a pout and a smirk, "Now we will have to work on Matt not scaring the shit out of people with his closing statements."
Matt had one hand on his hip, the other flowing around as he spoke, "My method works. You practically have to threaten the jury to say the mans not guilty."ย
Jess chuckled lightly, "You really did great though." She smiled.ย
"You too." Matt said. Both of them staring at each other for a moment before Foggy cleared his voice. "Listen, if you guys want to eye-fuck each other by all means go ahead. Just let me and Karen leave before you do."ย ย
My eyes widened, and Karen was laughing. Matt's head lowered, laughing as he went over to Foggy, grabbing his stuff and handing it to him.ย
"Foggy I'm gonna kill you." Matt said, rushing Foggy towards the door as Karen followed, laughing and waving back at me. Foggy spoke loudly as he was rushed into the hallway.
"See you lovebirds tomorr-"ย
Matt shut the door behind him quickly, his back resting on the frosted glass. We both let out an awkward breath, leaving us both laughing.ย
"So, I'm guessing you told him." Jess said, crossing her arms as Matt walked towards her direction.ย
"How could I not tell him about the best kiss I've ever had?" Matt said deeply as he leaned on her desk, crossing his arms.ย
Jess slapped Matt's chest as she gathered her stuff and placed it in her bag, "Don't be stupid." she chortled, blushing like a school girl.ย
"I'm not!" He said, putting his hands up defensively, "I'm being truthful. You happen to be a very good kisser."ย
Jess shook her head as she threw her bag over her shoulder, clutching her jacket with both of her hands as she looked up at Matt.ย
"Your not that bad." She said sarcastically.ย
"Oh I see how it is." He said, nodding his head along. "Your almost as bad of a liar as you are kisser."ย
Jess let out a flabbergasted laugh, giving a shocked face as she placed her hand on her chest.ย
"Matt Murdock, you cruel man."ย
"Its part of the job, sweetheart. Can't always be a nice guy."ย
Jess walked to the door, her heels creating an echo on the floor as she walked. Matt was suit to follow, grabbing everything he needed and unfolding his walking stick. He put his hand on the door nob before Jess, opening the door and motioning for her to go first which she did gladly. Locking the door behind him, Matt put his arm out as him and Jess walked back to her apartment.ย
They talked for a while about their daily lives. Matt enjoyed hearing about Jess and her previous college life, to be quite frank it was interesting to see Jess as your stereotypical frat girl when she was one of the best lawyers he had ever seen in action.ย
"So you mentioned you have a roommate?"ย
Jess chuckled, looking down. "Oh yes, my best friend, Lily." She said, looking back up at Matt who was wearing a closed smile as his resting face.ย
"Two of you seem like quite the pair." He said, slightly tilting his head down at her, "She's an artist and your a lawyer. I just don't really see how those to majors can mix well, let alone in a household." He joked.
"Oh believe me, she will randomly go through the house trying to get rid of my stock photo frames and replace them for art pieces. Other then that though, we never seem to have any issues." She paused, "Lily's more family then she is my best friend."ย
"Your related?"
"Not exactly, but I practically lived at her place growing up. Her mom, Lacy, was like my mother. She would go shopping with me and help dress me like a regular 9 year old rather then how my dad would try and dress me which was like a tiny Ruth Bader Ginsburg."
Matt chuckled, "Sorry I shouldn't have laughed at that."ย
"Why not? Its hilarious." She said looking over, "I even had the whole slick ponytail thing going." She motioned with her hands, slicking back her hair and making Matt laugh louder.ย
"Her dad was basically my dad. Every time we had a father daughter dance he would take both of us." She smiled at the thought, "one hand for each of us as we danced like idiots with him."ย
Matt felt her heartbeat increase, making him feel sorry for the girl. He never wanted to push her about speaking of her childhood, in fear that maybe it would bring something up that should have just stayed in.ย
"They sound like wonderful people." Matt said, breaking the silence.
"They really are." She smiled.
"I'll have to meet Lily sometime." Matt said, making Jess chuckle.ย
"Matt no offense, but she would eat you alive."
Matt looked over with a shocked expression, his brows furrowed together making Jess stop in her tracks because of her laughing. "Eat me alive?! She's that intense, huh?"
"You thought I was bad, oh just you wait." She said as they stepped a bit further, reaching the end of their walk together. The air felt tense with anticipation as they made their way to her steps.ย
"Thank you." She said, turning to face him. "For walking me home, again,ย it was really nice of you."ย
"Anytime, Jess." He said, placing his hands in his pockets.
Matt placed his hand under Jesse's hair. He could feel the hairs on her neck prickle up as he did so, and her heart rate increase. He leaned down, kissing her, but this time more passionately. Jess was quick to welcome it, wrapping her hands around his neck.ย
Matt pulled away, smirking down at her.ย
"Not bad."ย
Jess laughed, hands still wrapped around his neck as she rolled her eyes.ย
"Just so you know, I rolled my eyes." She said, still looking up at him. His hands where resting on her lower back. Matt chuckled and shook his head, pulling back slowly.
"I figured." He said as Jess got her keys out, walking up the steps to her door.ย
"Goodnight, Jess."
Jess looked back, her hair hitting her other cheek. "Goodnight, Murdock." She said, holding back a smile at bay as she walked inside.ย
Jess leaned against the door, looking over at Lily who was peering out the window and watching as Matt left. Lily whistled, looking at Jess.ย
"You where right, he is hot." She said, stuffing her mouth with a chip.ย
"You gotta stop watching me." Jess scolded while she smiled, pointing a finger at Lily as she flung her shoes off.ย
"How could I not watch that cinematic like kiss?" She said, resting on the wall near the door. "All you where missing was the rain and then boom, your in a Nicolas Sparks film."ย
Jess laughed, taking a chip from the bag Lily held as she walked towards her room.ย
"Where the hell ya going?" Lily said, her voice muffled from the amount of chips she had in her mouth. "Don't you wanna discuss, THAT?"
Jess chuckled, "I need sleep, Lily."ย
"Sleep is for losers, staying up and watching the bachelorette while we talk about your dreamy blind guy is not."ย
"How about I make you a deal. You let me sleep now and I'll stay up late with you on Saturday and we can do what every girl does in sleepover scenes in an early 2000's movie."ย
Lily's head perked to the side, "You mean it? Even the slowmo pillow fight?"
"Even that."
Lily scoffed, "Deal." She turned around, throwing a peace sign up. "Night, Jess!"ย
After waiting until Lily was sound asleep, Jess made her way out her window and into the light filled city of Hells Kitchen. She made her way to her favorite rooftop for scouting, noticing another figure standing their, leaned up against a cement wall.ย
"If I'm being honest, I'm very surprised you listened to what I said and took a break for a bit."ย
Jess walked up to him, "Trust me, I am too." She kept walking, "You know how hard it is to stay away when your terrible at stopping crime by yourself?"
The masked man hummed, cocking his head and smirking at the girl. "Your rather cheerful for a Thursday night." He paused, "What did you do, get laid?"ย
She rolled her eyes, "No I didn't get laid you asshole." She waited a moment before continuing, "Its just, today was a good day."ย
"No day is a good day unless you get laid." He said, walking towards the edge of the building.
"Depends on who your fucking." She said, following next to him as he jumped down from their current building to the next. "Anyways," she said, shaking off their awkward conversation.ย " where the hell are we going?" She asked, peering over.
"Kidnapping west 47th avenue." He said, jumping down to another building, the girl still following. "Started with a car crash and then some guys jacked the kid."
"Is it the same guys as before?" She asked.
"Not sure. I'm guessing figuring they both happened within the same week."ย
The pair jumped from building to buildings, stopping as the man in the mask listened for any potential signs of distress. Finally, they made it to a warehouse, stopping at the building in front of it as they both looked down.ย A group of two men where blocking the door, keeping watch out. Both the masked man and Jess were crouched down, watching as the guards looked around.
"He's in there."ย
"How do you know?" She asked, looking over at the man. His face looked rather angelic despite his name being the Devil. His scruff was shadowing his lips which where being illuminated by the moon.ย
"I just know." He paused, "Are you ready?"
"Don't really feel like I have much of a choice." She said, getting up and following the man.
Jess walked up to the group of men. As soon as they saw her they both lifted their guns, making her put her hands up.
"Woah there, boys. I just need some help." She said, making Matt chuckle at the girl who for once sounded rather distressed instead of saying 'I got it' or 'fuck off, I can handle it myself'. "Do you know where the nearest gas station is? My car broke down just about a-"
"Down the road to your left. About a 10 minute walk." One of the men said, lowering his gun down slowly, motioning for the other man to as well.
"Thank you both very much." She said lowering her hands and standing there, not moving.
The men both looked at each other confused. "Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to leave." The man on the left said.ย
"I gotta distract you both for about 7 more seconds."ย
Both the men had the same expression of confusion.
"Excuse me-"
The masked man came flying down from the fire escape above, knocking one of the men out while Jess punched another man, sending his responding punch up and kicking him back to the wall. Both men where out like a light, not moving.
"You where cutting it short." Jess said, looking at the men.
"I was perfect on time. Its not my fault your damsel in distress act was bullshit."ย
"I don't play the role often." She said, right before the man opened the door and they both walked inside.ย
The door lead us to a hallway that was very dimly lit. The lights in the hallway where yellow and brown, creating a shadow over our bodies as we walked slowly. Cobwebs and water marks accessorized the walls around us, leaving the hallway with a rather unpleasant smell.ย
The man placed his hand on the wall next to us, stopping in his tracks and listening. He looked back and nodded at me, making me put my fist up as he kicked into the door next to him, kicking the first man that was near the door. I came behind him, punching a man twice, getting one punch back to my face. I lifted my leg, wrapping it around his neck and sending him to the floor with a twist.ย
A man with a gun fired at the air, making me lunge over the desk in front of him and tackle him to the ground. I sat on his chest, punching him back and fourth in his face before the room was completely filled with silence besides the man and I's breathing. In the corner though, came a noise. The masked man and I both looked over slowly as I got up next to the masked man, staring down at the fearful and coward of a man who was curled up in the corner. The masked man looked over at me, picking the man up and placing him up right in front of me. I flipped into a kick, sending the man flying back and into the door, breaking it down to the ground.ย
A man came walking from another room as Matt grabbed a computer from the desk, chucking it at his head and making him fall down with the man on the door.ย
"I like that kick you did." He said, out of breath with his hands on his hips. "Jiu-Jitsu?" He asked.
"Taekwondo."
He nodded his head, still sounding out of breath. "Boxing." He said, pointing to himself.
"Figures." Jess responded as they left the room, being met with another man who Matt slammed into the wall beside him.
ย Sounds of gunfire filled the air as I choked a man who was attempting to shoot me. I quickly punched him on both sides of his face, hitting him with an uppercut until he was on his knees. I kicked him in the face, sending him back into the wall.ย
One man came up behind me, grabbing me and having another man kick me in the stomach. The masked man came up behind the man kicking me, sending his head into his knee. I grabbed a wrench the man holding me up had, catching it and hitting the man across the face with it until he was out on the ground.ย
Four men came at me and Matt, making us fight harder then ever before. Our bodies had been beaten up, making us absolutely exhausted from the constant kicking and punching. I punched a man next to me, grabbing his arm and twisting it around his back, flipping him over my shoulder as I landed on the floor with him. I was offered a hand by the masked man which I took quickly, flipping myself over his back into the man he was punching. I switched places with the man, being held by the masked man. We where standing close in front of each other, our lungs breathless as we continued staring at each other. The same wrench I used before came flying towards us. The masked man caught it, throwing it back like it was a baseball, hitting the man straight in the face.ย
We went back to staring at each other. The tension we both had with each other paying off at this moment.ย
Two more men came from the room, making the masked man throw his head back and groan.ย
"God." He mumbled breathlessly, jumping up and doing the same twist-kick I did before.ย
I was punching a man, almost ready to fall on the ground as he pushed me up against the wall, my face hitting the cold brick. I grabbed his hands, kicking my legs up and pushing off the wall so we both fell backwards into the room behind us. I got up quickly, being met with another man who did the same thing as the other, slamming my back into the wall.
"Is slamming people into a wall all they taught you?" she groaned, her neck being strangled by the mans hands.ย
Jess elbowed the man in the face, sending him down on his knees as a man behind him kicked the wall next to her. Jess grabbed his leg, kicking his other shin so he went back first into the ground as she punched him straight in the stomach with the only energy she had being pure adrenaline. Next to her, the masked man delt with the last guy, flipping onto the mans back as he hit the ground.ย
They both stood up, Jess leaned on the wall behind her and the masked man came up in front of her.ย
"I saw what you did." She said, out of breath smiling. "You tried my little kick."
The masked man's fabric on his face scrunched as he rolled his eyes. They both looked over at the last door in the hallway, peering over at each other.
"If a group of guys come out of that room, I'm killing someone."ย
They both stood up next to each other as they walked towards the door. Jess twisted the handle, walking in and looking over to the side. A little boy with brown and curly hair was sitting up against the wall, crying.ย
"Oh hey, hey its alright." Jess said softly, walking up to the boy as she kneeled down. "We're gonna get you out of here, okay?"
The little boy nodded as Jess lifted him up, grunting as she stood up.
They all walked out into the hallway. The little boy looking around, making him panic.ย
"Just look at me, okay?" Jess said, "Focus on me only."
The little boy nodded, placing his head on her shoulder and closing his eyes.ย
Jess was internally dying at the thought of the little boy, and Matt felt it. His eyes went towards her direction as they turned the corner, leaving the building completely as they called for the authorities.ย
Jess and the masked man where sitting on the roof of the building ahead, watching the cops as they searched the permeases.ย
"I'm exhausted" Jess moaned, hitting her head on the back of the wall behind her. "God, I have work tomorrow." She said, placing her face into her hands.
"Welcome to the life of a vigilante." The man said flatly as he sat on the wall in front of her, his hands resting on his knees.ย
The air between them was quiet besides the background noise below. Noises of cameras flashing, police sirens, and people speaking over one another filled the silence as Jess stared up at the sky.ย
"Do you ever wish you didn't do it?" She paused, "Not put the suit on."
The masked man looked up, taking a deep breath before he faced her again. "All the time."ย
"Good. So I don't feel as bad for admitting it." She said as she played with a piece of string on her shirt.
"Why did you do it?" He asked, making the girl look at him.ย
"I saw what was happening and wanted to help. I just didn't want people knowing it was me when I messed up and failed." She paused, "I grew up with people who taught me the only way to get rid of the bad people was to become worse, so for a while I did. I killed people..innocent people who had lives, and families, children." Jess took a deep breath, "One day I just...I realized what I was doing was wrong. I told my dad that I didn't want to do it anymore and he yelled at me. Said I would never be anything good, just another vigilante." She chuckled to herself lightly, "Guess he wasn't wrong."
"I think he was wrong." He said quickly.
Jess looked up, and for once she didn't look at the man with hatred. Instead she looked at him with hope in her eyes.ย
"Really?"
"Of course he was wrong." He stated mater-of-factly, "You just went in there and took out a group of men who we both know weren't first timers at this. You saved a little boy who probably crying about the fact he was never going to leave. You aren't some ordinary vigilante, trust me." He gave her a look, "Your good at what you do. Shit- your great at it."ย
"Black mask are you drunk?" Jess asked as her voice cracked, attempting to hold back the fact she was on the verge of complete tears.ย
"Are you crying?" He asked, feeling like maybe he had taken his speech a bit to far. She clearly had needed the reassurance, seeing that it was weighing on her chest like a ton of bricks.ย
"No." She cracked, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
When he listened to her heart beat, he could tell she was not only flattered by the comment, but appreciative. He knew it had an affect on her, making him slightly smile to himself.ย
Jess stood up, looking down at the group of police cars that where increasing each time she would look.ย
"Where are you going?"ย
"I don't know," she shrugged, still walking off. "Probably gonna go break the law or something
The masked man tiredly saluted the girl and weakly smiled as she started to walk away. Jess turned back, "Hey black-mask?"
The man let out a slight chortle. "Yes?"
"Thank you." She said rather softly.ย
Matt was confused. This was the first time he had ever heard her say something nice to him. He was used to the typical dick head comment or backhanded complement at the most. But this, this was sincere. No hidden sarcasm, or eye rolling, sincere.ย
"Your welcome." He said, no longer fighting with words. "Get home and ice your back. I'm gonna need you tomorrow."
"You need me?" She asked, sarcastically flattered as she placed her hand on her chest.
"I didn't-"
"Oh yes you did." She danced, as she made her way towards the edge of the building, about to go down the fire escape. "Admit it, devil. You need me." She said, turning back and walking backwards.
He smiled down at his lap, "I'm not going to admit that because its not true."
"Yeah, okay." She said, walking down the fire escape and peering over at him one last time for the night. "Goodnight, Devil of Hells Kitchen."
He looked up, towards the direction the voice was coming from.ย
"Goodnight, Devils Angel."
The sound of her sarcastically gagging made him chuckle.ย
"God that nickname is disgusting." She said, disappearing off the fire escape as she made her way back to her apartment where she would sleep soundly for the rest of the night.ย
That night something odd weighed on Jesse's mind about the masked man. Something about his mannerisms didn't seem foreign. The way he spoke, or even touched her it wasn't something she had never felt before. He was familiar.
Oddly familiar.ย
Wilson Fisk was tucked inside of his grand penthouse, staring down at the white tuna with poached oil one of his servants had prepared for him. The sounds of shoes tapping across the floor made his head peer up. Wesley was walking rather somberly into the room.
"Sir, we seem to have an issue."
Fisk's head cocked to the side, "What is it, Wesley?" He asked, fearful.
"Their was an attack tonight at the warehouse. The boy escaped and all of our men are down."
Wilson's jaw clenched. He slammed his fist down on the table, making James step back a bit out of fear.ย
"How many men?"
"47 to be exact, sir. Only, uh...that isn't the big issue."
Fisk's head turned towards him again, "Go on." He spoke, soft with anger.
"One of the guards stated that he was approached by a woman and a man." Wesley swallowed, trying to see if he would figure out who the pair was, knowing stating their names made him rageful.ย
Fisk's head remained facing him, rather confused.
"The description they gave us seems to match a particular pair-"
"Damnit, Wesley! Get it out!" Fisk spat, slamming his hand on the table.
"The Devil of Hells Kitchen sir." He spoke fast, "And his accomplice." He said, sounding disgusted with who he had spoken about.
Fisk swallowed angrily, "I want all my men on them. Find them, and bring them to me, alive."
"Alive?"
"I want to kill them myself. Show exactly what happens when the people of Hells Kitchen decide to go against me."ย
Wesley nodded. "I'll get our men on that as soon as possible, sir." He began leaving the room as Fisk went back to his meal, plotting the death of the devil and his angel.ย
