41. Practicing and False Alarms

It had been three weeks since Sulohita had come to Hastinapur.

In these three weeks, she has been pestering me nonstop to teach me how to learn about my memories and powers..

And I mean nonstop.

Specimen A

" Karali! Come I'll help unlock your powers. "

" Sulohita, I'm taking a bath. "

Specimen B

" Karali! Come, I'll help you remember who we all are. "

" Sulohita, I'm sleeping. " I called as she burst into our room in the middle of the night.

Safe to say, I can understand, that even though we are all equally important, she might be the younger one amongst us.

Which is why, last week, I did this...

" Sulohita, come, I'm ready to learn. " I whispered into her ear as she sat, meditating.

Her eyes opened and grew comically wide as she looked at me with such surprise and joy.

"Really? You want to? "

"Why not? "

She immediately stood up and threw her hands around my neck.

"Oh I'm so happy! I get to teach my sister all about us! " She exclaimed, while I held her hand.

" Shall we start? " I asked, offering my hand.

"Let's go. " She clapped hers into mine, pulling me along to the main grounds.

Meanwhile, Shakuni, unseen to my eyes, stood by, watching it all. His hand went up to run his beard as a mirthful glint shined in his eyes.

"Alright, now close your eyes and call your own name out. "

"How so? "

"Watch me.

ऊँ सुलोहिते नमो नमः। "  She chanted and a brilliant red blow enveloped her body, as if a halo. She emanated heat and her eyes, as she opened them were pools of fire.

" Now you try. " She said, her voice as if coming from a big cloud, thundering, but it still held the sweetness of her.

So I closed my eyes.

"ऊँ करालयै नमो नमः।" I chanted, but did not get the desired results... Instead of that, I felt smoke and flipped my head to see my own saree burning at one end.

" Aah. " I said, swatting the flame away with my hand as she looked up, her eyes softwning with compassion and empathy.

"It's alright. We'll try again. You have to let go of all your inhibitions. You have to feel the fire that sits inside you. " She said encouragingly.

So I closed my eyes again and repeated.

This time, I could see, a part of my finger sparkle. A sudden one, a sharp spark.

" Good job Karali. Keep trying. " Sulohita softly whispered.

As the day grew on and we sat there for about 2 prahars, my hands and legs were tired from sitting in the same position for too long, I opened my eyes to see my glowing feet. It had a sharpness to it, the glow.

I opened my eyes to see my sister enjoying imlis.

I have always loved imlis, rather always loved sour foods. Achaar, imli, lemon... But all natural sour flavours. The artificial one is just plain chemicals.

"Give me one too please. " I asked and was tossed one.

It was so sour, I had so much fun.

Now, I know I have been sitting here for ages, even with my head bent a bit low. I should have known I would have a blood rush to the brain before I stood up. That paired with the exhaustion of the day gave rise to something that I had never done in my entire eighteen years on this earth. I fainted.

Faintly, I could hear the worried exclamations of my sister calling me.

The next time I squinted my eyes was in my room, surrounded by mata, matw Gandhari,  a vaidy, Sulohita and my husband. They all had worried expressions, but my husband looked furious. Well. So I closed my eyes again, choosing to listen to what they said.

" Vaidy ji, is she going to be alright? " My sister asked.

" It's hard to tell devi. I still haven't checked her, waiting for her to gain consciousness first. Could you please tell me how her day went?" He said, as he sat by me.

" Uh yes, in the morning we began practicing, me and her, some meditation and yog for her body, thereafter shifting to more strenuous exercise. Afterwards she saw me eating imlis and asked one for herself. As she had been calming her body down, she stood up and held her head, before she fainted. "

Well, my sister is a rather clever liar. Everything but the truth and i mean literally. She truly did say most of the truth, but twisted it.

" She had imlis? " Mata asked surprised.

"Mata. What's wrong with eating imlis? " My husband asked. His voice betrayed the anger he held on his face. That was only worry.

" Oh jiji! " Mata exclaimed again.

" Vaidy ji, do you think that she is with child? " Mata Gnadhari asked.

Which is when I had had enough.

" What! " I shouted, sitting up and all heads turned to look at me.

I looked at my husband, who looked just as flabbergasted as I did.

"Why so surprised bahana? " Sulohita said happily.

Oh no. Oh nonnonono. What? How? When?... We hadn't....

But it made me think. If I did tell them, then they would ask me what the problem was, if I was uncomfortable and all such questions. Rather let the result be negative, then we'll all go our merry ways.

"But Mata -" I held on to my husband's hand, effectively shutting him up. He looked at me confused.

" Vaidy ji please use your knowledge to test it. " My sister said... Wy to add fuel to fire sister... Wait.

So they did do that, creating a concoction of pastes and chemicals, with a prick of blood from my finger.

We sat there for about an hour or so.

" Kshama Maharani, but it is negative. She is not with child. It must simply be exhaustion. " The vaidy ji said, walking out, while the mothers visably became saddened.

"I'm so sorry putri, we raised your hopes up with our own. I'm sure that we'll have our grandchild soon enough. "

Raise my hopes my foot, you made me think I parthenogenesised my own baby.

But I smiled and said," It's alright Mata. We all receive what's meant for us when the right time comes. " She nodded appreciatively, leaving the room with Mata Gandhari.

My sister also left after pressing a kiss to my head, " Rest, we begin tomorrow again. "

As they all left I looked at my husband who sat near my hand in his side of the bed.

"Well, that was a save wasn't it? "

"Why didn't you take care of yourself?" I heard him say, stoic but his voice was trembling with worry.

" I did. It was just blood rush Yudhishthir. You know I have those. "

"Yes,but even you know you have never fainted. What did you do? "

I knew he would not understand, his reason was clouded by emotions as of now, very unlike him, for he's 'Yudhishthir' . But hey, of it's with me, I accept.

So I sat up, closing my eyes and chanted again. This time, both my legs glowed with the same sharp tinge to them, as if the whitest part of the flame was in my legs.

My husband looked up, mid his tirade of worry, to see my glowing legs.

" This -that is so. "

"Yes, it is. How is it? "

" You look like a goddess. You are one."

"No. I'm just your wife, love and friend. Not a goddess. "

" But to me you are my goddess too. " He said, looking at me in awe.

He pulled me into a hug, dragging me across the bed into his lap.

" I'm so sorry if I sounded mad. I was worried -"

"I would be more worried if you weren't angry at me you bonehead. " I mumbled into his neck.

" Why so? " He asked, pulling me back, but sat me on his lap still.

"Well, that would mean that you either didn't care or you're too scared to imagine me harmed, both of which are not good thoughts to hold. "

"I can never stop caring for you my sweet, you are my heart. You live here. " He said, placing my hand on his chest above his heart.

" And you live in mine. " I answered, reciprocating the action and he turned beet red... For reasons I didn't understand.

Clearing his throat, he asked, " Why didn't you let me tell Mata. "

"Well, A) I don't really want to discuss what we do behind closed doors with her.
B) That would add to my problems, because everyone would assume I feel uncomfortable or something with you. " I told him, pecking his cheek.

"I guess that makes sense. I am sorry if you falt uncomfortable today. "

"No. We avoided a major questioning today, I think we are alright. Aren't we? " I asked.

"Yes, we, are. " He said, pulling my head to rest on his shoulder.

We sat there for a while, in peace, before I heard the sound of four men infiltrating our room and jumped off, sitting on the bed.

" Bhabishree! Are you alright? " Asked a conundrum of voices as they ran into the room, sitting by my bed.

Their Jyeshth followed them, looking at me with worry.

"Kumari, are you alright? Mata Kunti said you had fainted. "

" Ji Jyeshth Karn. I am as healthy as a horse can be. "

" But Jyeshth Yudhishthir said -"

"Nothing. He said Nothing Nakul, what are you saying. " Arjun said, shutting him up, as I looked behind me to see my husband walking towards them with comically wide eyes.

So... He's hiding something.

Right.

My husband. Satyavadi Yudhishthir was hiding something.

" Right. You all. Why are you here? " My husband asked, sitting by my side and grabbimg hold of my hand.

" We are here because we want to go for a brother's night. We haven't gotten much time with you nowadays. " Bheem said.

" Haan haan. Did you know bhratashree, they say marriage does this to men. They don't want to leave their wives. "

" So take him. I haven't stopped him. " I said, laughing at their shocked faces.

"You'll be alright? "

"Oh yes. Why not? " I answered.

" Alright. I'll try and be back soon. " He said, walking out.

Soo... Saag do be having a new set of problem on her plate eh? Good thing she has her sister and husband to help her, as well as the brother in another kingdom.
Tell me in the comments how it was.
How surprising it is, that in the first book, by chapter 41 I was preparing to finish the story... Here it's now starting to get to the main plot, the fighting...

How do you think both the plots will coincide?  After all, while they were sent here to fight the monsters, the Kurur parivar is headed towards their own destruction aren't they?

Do vote please.

Much love

Radhekrishn ♥
