In which you woke up and chose 'war'

When you woke up, it almost felt like you didn't. It felt as if your whole body was still asleep, and only a small part of your mind was awake.
You opened your eyes, only for the strong light to worsen the headache you apparently had. It took some time for your eyes to adjust to the light, and while they did, you groaned, using all of your power to sit up.
You were in a small room, lying on a soft bed. There was a small window on each side of the wall, revealing beautiful nature outside of it. The bed was the only piece of furniture, along with a brown chest. You looked around in confusion, wondering how you got here. The last thing you remembered was falling head-first into a trap. That's not usually how your day goes, so you were quite shaken up.
"You're awake. She's awake." Someone right beside you stated the obvious, and you turned your head to see three males looking at you. They were all wearing the same suit, telling you they all came from the same place - a place you had probably walked right into without consent. Was it their trap you had fallen into? Were you being held captive right now? But who in the world would want to capture you? "Fundy, go get Wilbur."
You wondered if these people were friends or foes. Were you in a village right now? If so, could you buy land? You were tired of traveling days on end.
The so-called Fundy, who seemed to be a mixture between a human and a fox, stood up from his chair and went out of the room. Your eyes followed him out.
You were left with the two other boys, who seemed to be teenagers. They didn't seem very intimidating, so you relaxed yourself a bit. In fact, they seemed just as tired as you were. They each had bags under their eyes, dry lips, and wounds all over their face.
You didn't know them at all, and you weren't that much older than them, but the motherly instincts you didn't know you had wanted to shove those boys right into a shower and give them a good night's sleep. But you weren't one to talk. You looked down at yourself. Your purple and black clothing were dirty after falling into a mud-hole, and you bet your hair didn't look too pretty either. Maybe you could all bathe together. Wait, that sounded so wrong-
Normally you would've been a bit more skeptical about waking up in a place you didn't know at all, but truth be told, you were just glad to be in the presence of someone else.
"Where am-" You started, but got interrupted by the tall and blonde boy. He pointed a blaming finger at you, which you became cross-eyes looking at.
"So it's YOU who keeps destroying our spawners!?"
"Can you please stop that?" The brunette spoke up. His voice sounded more polite and innocent, while the blonde one was far angrier.
"Typical women!"
"It's for our training, and it keeps Dream and his goons away, you see."
"I bet you're an American as well!"
You blinked. You couldn't really comprehend what was happening here. They were talking way too fast, expecting you to know who and what they were talking about. "I'm- wait what? Who are you?" You were surprised at how weird your voice sounded. It was thick and rusty - was it because of the sleeping gas, or had you just slept for a long time? Either way, your body was beginning to wake up, the fog for your mind clearing up.
The brunette was just about to speak up when the guy beside him silenced him. "Wait, don't tell her anything until Wilbur comes, Tubbo! Not even our names! She could be one of Dream's spies."
Tubbo nodded eagerly. "Got it, Tommy!"
"So Tubbo and Tommy, huh?" You chuckled at the boys' obliviousness and laughed even more at their shocked reactions when you said their names. "I'm (Y/n). Nice to meet you. Now, where am I?"
"In our drug van."
"What-"
"In L'manburg." Tubbo corrected Tommy and smiled at you. "We took you here after you passed out. Even though you might be an enemy. You're welcome."
L'manburg, huh? You've never heard of it before, but it sounded pretty cool. "And it's your spawners?"
"It was our spawners. You broke them all, remember? Dream could've sent you to do so." Tommy crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes at you. You rose your brows. This guy sure was skeptical considering how it was you who had just got taken to a completely random place, without asking for it.
"I don't know anyone named Dream. I'm not from here, you see." You tried standing up, only to get placed back on the bed by the two boys. You couldn't tell if it was because they were concerned about your condition, or if they simply wouldn't allow you to leave. Probably the latter.
You weren't dizzy anymore, so it quite annoyed you a bit.
Tommy thought about your words for a long time. "You could be lying."
You nodded. "Well, yeah. You wouldn't know, and I don't have anything to prove that I'm not friends with that Dream guy. I guess you're just gonna have to take my word for it."
Your eyes widened as you got a stupid idea. "Here, take this chicken as a peace offer." You took the meat from the chicken you had used as a shield earlier and threw it to them. Tubbo grabbed it and looked at Tommy.
"We do love chicken, Tommy."
"We do indeed." Tommy looked at Tubbo. They stood there for a long time - long enough for you to consider starting whistling just to break the silence. Then they nodded to each other, their serious faces breaking up into huge smiles.
Damn, you couldn't believe that worked. It really was true that the key to any person's heart was food. Good thing you were good at cooking.
"You talk in your sleep." Tubbo stated out of the blue, getting your attention. "Where are you? Oh, where are you?"
A frown tugged in the corner of your mouth. That was so embarrassing. You don't even remember dreaming anything.
You were just about to speak up, when the door got opened again. Through it came the Fundy-guy, and a very tall man following behind him.
The room you were currently in wasn't that big, and there was barely room for five people in here. They were all standing shoulder-to-shoulder looking down at you. You were just glad you had the bed.
"I see you've woken up." The tall, brown-haired man spoke. His voice was deep and weirdly intimidating. You guessed he was the Wilbur guy, and judging by how Tommy and Tubbo eyed him nervously, he was the leader.
"Seems so." You said, nodding. You wanted to be polite and keep eye contact, but the furry beside him just fascinated you too much. You've never seen a furry before. You wondered if his fur was soft.
"Is she with Dream?" He asked the boys, even though he still looked at you. You rose your left eyebrow.
"No," Tubbo said. "Well, at least we don't think so. She gave us chicken. And she doesn't know anyone here."
"And she fell into your trap you say? Right after destroying the spawners?"
Tubbo was about to answer when you cut him off. "Yeah, I did. Spare the trouble and ask me yourself, if you don't mind. I do understand English, you know."
Wilbur narrowed his eyes at you, and you returned the gesture. You didn't like this guy.
"Why do you have traps and monster spawners around here anyway? That's dangerous." You asked, breaking the silence. The males looked at each other, debating whether they should tell you or not.
"It was Dream who began. Setting traps, I mean. We figured we should do the same. The spawners are an attempt to keep him and his friends away from L'manburg. At least for a little while." Tommy explained as if it was the most obvious thing ever.
"Oookay." You mumbled. "And who is this Dream guy again? Are you at war or something?"
"I ask the questions here," Wilbur said calmly. "But yeah. We are."
Your eyes widened. You said it as a joke. You hadn't expected to be right.
Well, would you look at that. The only thing you had gotten out of following that stupid star was walking right into a war. Just your luck.
"Oh," Was the only thing you could say. Then you narrowed your eyes, looking at them. "You're the good guys, right?"
Tommy rolled his eyes. "Well obviously. Dream is a psychotic lunatic. We just wanted to deal drugs, and Dream wouldn't allow that on his land - which isn't even his land, you know? He just thinks that, because he views himself as the most powerful fighter in the world. So we decided to make our own nation where he and his friends aren't allowed. Where we could be free from his manipulating mind-games and strict rules. We did it to rebel against him. And he, as the selfish bastard he is, wouldn't allow that either. He stops at nothing before we surrender. But that won't happen."
Fundy, the adorable furry, nodded. "Well, it goes a lot deeper than that. But yeah."
Your brows knitted. "So... I'm currently in L'manburg right now, a nation lead by you, who is in a huge fight with a guy named Dream, because he wouldn't allow you to sell drugs?"
"Pretty much-"
"Of course not," Wilbur said, giving Tommy a punch on the shoulder. Tommy murmured an auch. "Before all of this, we all used to live together in peace, you see. We wanted to have a little fun, but Dream wouldn't allow that. He hates whenever something is out of his control - so our rebellious behavior started to piss him off. He threatened to kill us, burned down our houses, stole our most valuable possessions... But we didn't back down. And then one day, we had enough. That's how L'manburg was born. Dream and his goons aren't allowed in here. He doesn't know what's happening within these walls, and he hates that. That's why he does everything in his power to stop our society from growing - he's afraid that it'll surpass his own. He's afraid that he'll lose all of his power. "
"I- Woah." You simply stuttered. This was crazy. "That Dream guy sounds like a real dickhead."
Tubbo nodded. "It's only a matter of time before he declares an official war. Then the violence will begin. He will stop at nothing."
"And if that's going to happen, winning is going to be difficult." Fundy said sadly, his ear hanging down." Dream is a really, really talented fighter. We've fought against him before, three on one, and he doesn't ever lose. He's really smart as well. And he's got two loyal friends named Sapnap and George. They are really good as well. As to not speak of his army."
"But so are we! We can take him down, I'm sure of it! We just need a really, really good plan." Tommy spoke loudly, clenching his fists. You weren't sure if he tried to convince himself or them.
You swung your legs over the side of the bed. You were quite the experienced fighter as well. You've practiced your survival and archery skills ever since you were very young. You could help them out.
Buuut, you didn't offer your help just yet. You've only met these people today, and immediately offering to fight beside them in a whole-ass war seemed a little too desperate, even for you.
"How many are you? Is it only you four against Dream's people?" You really hoped that they wouldn't say yes. If so, they didn't stand a chance. You haven't even met Dream, and you didn't know how good at fighting any of them were, but it didn't take a lot of brain cells to figure out that if you stood four men against an army, you would definitely lose.
"No, it's not."
Thank god.
"We have Eret as well."
"What!?" You burst out in disbelief. "You're five people? Five?"
Wilbur's jaw clenched. "Well, it's not like his army consists of that many people anyway. Besides, we're looking for new people to join our nation."
The room fell silent, and they were all looking at you. You smiled awkwardly, knowing they all waited for you to say something.
"And you (Y/n), seem quite skilled. You took out all of our spawners during nighttime, without even getting a scratch." Wilbur continued.
Tubbo nodded eagerly. "Tommy and I saw how you fired four arrows at once, killing all of those skeletons. It was epic!"
Oh, so they had followed you? That's why they had taken you to L'manberg rather than leaving you in the forest. They needed allies.
They couldn't seriously expect you to help them out just like that. You had just met them.
"Yeah, but we're looking for people. Not women." Tommy said when he realized you didn't know what to say.
"That doesn't even make sense-"
"Don't mind him. He's Tommy." Wilbur said, as if him being Tommy was an excuse. You felt bad. They all looked like they were on the verge of giving up. It wasn't like you didn't want to help them. You just thought it would be a little extreme. You didn't even know what you were up against.
Tubbo was the only one who kept on smiling. "Hey (Y/n), you were looking for someone, right?" he said, silencing the whole room. You included.
How did he know that? How did he know that? Oh right, you talked in your sleep.
You nodded slowly. "I do, yeah." Silence. "Uh, it's a childhood friend of mine."
Tubbo smiled. For a moment you were afraid he would start clapping.
Tommy's eyes lit up as well, once he realized where Tubbo was going. He had a smug grin on his face. "Ever heard of a loadstone compass?"
You stood up, looking at Tommy with wide eyes. "You guys have one?!"
A loadstone compass was a compass, if coded correctly, could lead you to a specific person at all times. It would be the best tool for finding your friend. It could end up saving you months, maybe even years.
Before, reuniting with your old friend had seemed completely impossible. This world was infinite. But now you saw an actual possibility. Your heart began beating faster in excitement.
But to your surprise, Fundy shook his head. "Unfortunately not. We've tried tho. We simply don't have the skills to make one. The only one we know, who knows how to make it - is Dream."
"Where can I find him?"
"Oh no, no, no." Wilbur laughed. "Trust me, Dream isn't the type of person you'd want to negotiate with. You'd end up owing him a favor, and he'll blackmail you. That is if he hasn't killed you already. But we, however, will make you a promise."
You rose your brows. "I'm listening."
"If you fight alongside us, to protect L'manburg. If you help us take down Dream and his men, then we'll promise you to get a loadstone compass."
You ran a hand through your hair in thought. "So let's say... If we take down Dream... You'll promise to force him to make a loadstone compass for me, no matter what it takes?"
Wilbur smiled. "You have my word." He reached out his hand for you to shake.
You looked at it, hundreds of thoughts running through your mind. You were signing up for a war here. You were putting your own life at the line, for people you didn't know, just to find an old friend of yours, who might have forgotten all about you. Heck, he might even not be alive.
But this wasn't just about that compass. Sure, you wanted to see your old friend again, but you were also sick and tired of being alone. Being constantly on the run, not having a real home. Fighting in a war would suck, but at least you fought for something, along with someone else. And you actually liked these guys.
You gulped, shaking Wilburs hand. "Deal."
"POGCHAMP!" Tommy yelled, jumping up in the air. "Let's take down that son of a bitch!"
Tubbo clapped and cheered along with Tommy. Wilbur put an arm around Fundy-the-foxy-furry, and they smiled at each other.
A warm feeling of unity overwhelmed you. You couldn't help but smile widely, looking at the man, furry, and two teenagers in front of you. You took your bow and held it up.
"Let's fucking win this war."
