Chris's POV
While the pilot was flying all of us to the closest hospital nearby, Tyler, Rebecca, and I were all applying substantial pressure to the injuries on Laura's stomach and chest. The three of us managed to stop the bleeding in from her arms and legsโcleaning the wounds so they wouldn't become infected, but not her chest and stomach. Its only gotten worse.
Laura has been coughing up more and more blood with each shallow breath she took. Leaving countless drops of blood trickling down from her lips. Her skin had become so pale, almost floral white, that she practically looked like a ghost. Thankfully, Rebecca knew a way to drain the blood filling up from her lungs. It would alleviate at least some of her pain, but it wasn't gonna be a easy procedure.
"Guys," Leon, Piers, Tyler, and I immediately glanced at Rebecca. "Laura isn't gonna last much longer if we don't drain the blood from her lungs, it's what making her have difficulty breathing. I need to make a small laceration in each of lungs in order to alleviate her respiratory complication. I have the materials I need right here," Rebecca pulled out two long plastic tubes and a scalpel from her first aid attached to her utility belt. Before shifting her gaze over towards my niece. "Laura, I can't guarantee that this won't hurt. But I need you to stay strong and tough it out, okay?"
Laura slowly nodded her head with acknowledgement. Rebecca directed her gaze over at Tyler. "Tyler, go grab me that bucket over there," Rebecca ordered him. While se left to get the bucket, she glanced over at Leon and Piers. "I need you two to get on either side of Laura, and hold her down. She needs to be lying completely still while I operate. If Laura moves around too much while I cut her open, I could accidentally cut one of arteries or puncture another one of her internal organs. Causing more unnecessary harm to her. At a time like this, there can't be any room for mistakes. Got it?" The guys nodded their heads, and began walking towards opposite sides of Laura. Leon positioned him on the bench near Laura's headโresting his hands gently on her shoulders. Piers moved over towards the other side of the bench near Laura's feetโgrabbing onto both of her ankles.
"Chris," I shifted my gaze over toward Rebecca. "I'm gonna need your assistance with the procedure," Rebecca said to me, as Tyler returned. Setting the bucket down by her feet and kneeling down beside her. I gaze down at Laura, as she weakly glanced over at me. With a miserable pained look on her face. 'This procedure is to help Laura, not cause any further harm.' I thought to myself, as I peered back up at Rebecca.
"Alright, what do you need me to do?" I asked her, as I took off my combat gloves.
"After I make the first incision," Rebecca pulled Laura's shirt up barely past the bottom of her chest, revealing her stomach to us. "I need you to hold it open while I make more incisions in order to reach her lungs, understood?"
I nodded my head, as Rebecca finished disinfecting the area that she's gonna cut through. Tyler pulled Laura's hand out of her pocket and grasped itโgiving my niece a sense of comfort before Rebecca got started. After grabbing ahold of the scalpel, she slowly lifted the tool up towards Laura's chest. Rebecca carefully placed the sharp edge on her skinโapplying pressure and dragging the blade as she began to cut open her flesh. Beginning to make large incision at the site located between two of her ribs. While making the incision, Laura bit her bottom lipโmuffling her screams. Laura tried very hard not to wince or move at all, as she squeezed Tyler's hand very tightly with all of her might.
Blood spilled lightly out of the first incision, as I moved my hands to gently hold it open. While Rebecca was making the second and third incision with the scalpel, Laura had a more laborious time trying not to move and contain her wails of agony. Leon and Piers used considerate force to hold her down, while Laura whimpered in pain. As more tears ran down her cheeks. I couldn't stand seeing her this way, in this much pain while fighting for her very life. When Rebecca finally reached her lung, Laura's eyelids closed wearily. Making most of us panic straightaway.
"Guys Laura's fine, she just blacked out. That's all. It's better if she isn't awake for this," Rebecca reassured us, as she made the final incision in her lung. Rebecca quickly yet carefully placed one end of the plastic inside Laura's lung, and the other inside the bucket. Blood instantaneously started flowing into the tube from inside her lung and into the bucket. Helping Laura breathe better already, right as I noticed her chest rising and falling at a more frequent pace. After Rebecca made the last incision in her other lung, she inserted one end of the tube into her lung. Placing the other end in the bucket right away. It made me sick to my stomach. Seeing how much blood that was in her lungs were flowing from the tube and into the bucket. Filling the bucket almost halfway full of blood. Laura's blood.
"We're here," The pilot announced, as he landed the helicopter on top of the helipad on top of the roof of the hospital.
As the back of the helicopter was opening up, we all see from afar a couple doctors and some nurses rushing towards us. With a stretcher and other medical equipment with them. Leon and I approach the medical staffโshowing them our badges for a brief moment.
"We need your help, my niece is severely injured and she's in dire need of immediate medical attention," I explain hastily to them, as we take them over to Laura.
"Alright, what's your name sir?" She asked me.
"Chris, Chris Redfield," I answered, then I directed my thumb over at Leon. "This is my brother-in-law, Leon."
"What happened to her Mr. Redfield?" A female Hispanic doctor questioned me right away, as she and the rest of the staff saw how terrible Laura's condition is. Some of them mutter words under their breath, while a couple others gasped at the sight. It wasn't me who answered.
"Laura's been shot multiple times in her arms, legs, shoulders, chest, and stomach. Including sustaining massive internal bleeding inside of both of her abdominal and thoracic cavities. Causing her to go into hypovolemic shock. Her lungs began to instantaneously fill up with her own blood. Causing her to have difficulty breathing as well, but we managed to drain most of it from each of her lungs," Rebecca explained to the doctor, as two of the nurse hustled over towards Laura. When Rebecca mentioned Laura, I noticed the doctor slightly tense up for a second. Before regaining her composure.
"How long has Laura been like this?"
"She's been in hypovolemic shock for the past ten to fifteen minutes," Leon answered. The doctor nodded in response, as the nurses cautiously but quickly picked Laura up off the bench. Setting her bloody body carefully onto the stretcher.
Another doctor grabbed the bucket off the groundโputting it next to Laura on the stretcher. One of the nurses slipped on a pair of latex gloves, and hopped onto the stretcher kneeling down beside Laura. He began applying immediate pressure on the wounds on her stomach, while the other nurse attached a tube connect to a I.V. bag into Laura's forearm. Holding the bag up in the air. Leon, Tyler, Laura's other friend Emile, and I went with the medical staff. Right a they were wheeling Laura inside the hospital. While everyone else stayed behind in the helicopter.

"I'm sorry guys, you can't go beyond this point. The ER is prohibited to all civilians," The doctor informed us. She halted in front of us, while the rest of the staff they wheeled Laura inside the ER. "You're gonna have to wait out here unfortunately. Is there anything else that I can do for any of you?"
"No thank you, we're good for now Dr. Rodriguez," I tell her, as I gazed at her name tag.
"Alright then Mr. Redfield, excuse me." The doctor then left us in the hallway. Heading straight into the ER.
Soon after, we all left the hallway and went to the lobby area. Tyler, Emile, and I sat each down on a chair, while Leon left to grab all of us drinks from the cafeteria.
"Do you think she'll be alright Tyler?"
I glanced up at the both of them, as Tyler answered. "I hope so Emile. We both know that it takes a lot to take down someone as tough as Laura. She's stronger than the two of us combined. One way or another, she's gonna pull through this. We don't how long it'll take, but all we can do right now it just wait."
Right after, Leon returned to the waiting area. With four bottles of water in hand. We all thank him, as he handed everyone one of us a bottle, then sat down next to me on a nearby chair. Leon twisted the cap offโtaking a drink of out of his bottle.
"Any update on Laura yet?" Leon inquired.
"No, not yet," I replied. Leon directed his gaze over towards Tyler and Emile.
"How are you two holding up?" He asked them, as I took a sip out of the bottle.
"We're doing alright for now. Emile still needs to get her leg checked out thoughโ"
"Tyler, don't even start," Emile cut him off in an irritated tone. That's when I finally notice the bloody stained bandages on Emile's left leg. She needs to get that injury checked out.
"But Emโ"
"Hell no." She stood up in front of him. "Tyler, you already know that I absolutely hate hospitals. Especially doctors out of all people! The only reason I'm here, is because our best friend is dying! DYING. And I'm terribly worried about Laura, Tyler. I'm not letting any physician, doctor, nurse, or anyone else who works here touch me until we find out if Laura is gonna be okay." Emile walked away from him. Sitting down beside me, as she softly yawned.
"Maybe you two should hit the hay. It's almost one in the morning, and I can tell that you two are very exhausted," I say to them, changing the subject.
"Try to get some sleep guys, you're gonna need it," Leon added.
"What about you two? Aren't you guys tired at all?" Emile questioned me.
"Leon and I will be fine, we've stayed up way longer than this without getting any rest. We're used to it."
"Alright then, wake us up if there's any update on Laura." Tyler leaned back against his seat, closing his eyes and trying to fall asleep.
"Got it," I said. Emile does the same, using her jacket as a blanket while she was getting comfortable in her seat.
"Oh, one more thing. If either of you two even try to take me to a physician while I'm sleeping, you're gonna regret it. And I do mean it," Emile said, before falling asleep. 'She's a stubborn girl, that's for sure. And a very caring person as well. No wonder Laura and her are best friends.'

While Tyler and Emile were sleeping in their seats, Leon and I stayed up for the next two hours. Waiting on any news on Laura. Piers eventually joined us in the lobbyโsitting down next to his sleeping brother.
"Where's everybody else?" I asked him, noticing that they weren't with him.
"The pilot is first flying girls back to the Marriott, the hotel that Moira has been staying at for past couple of days. To rest up for the night. Then he's gonna take Austin and Mark to go meet up with the other half of Alpha team."
"Did they manage to capture the target?" I inquired.
"Yes, Mark told me," Piers answered, as Dr. Rodriguez finally came out of the ERโheading towards us.
The first thing I noticed was specks of blood that were stained all over her white coat and uniform. Causing my heart to skip a beat. The three of us stand up from seats all at the same time, as the doctor approached us.
"How's Laura, is she..." Piers trailed off.
"Laura's fine." We all sigh in relief. "We managed to stabilize her, stop the internal bleeding, remove the bullets from within her, and patch up all of her wounds. Butโ"
"But what?" I questioned her.
She lightly gulped. "Due to the severity of her injuries, and the fact she lost over three pints of blood, in order to stabilize Laura we had to medically induce her into a coma."
