"Wanna give it a shot greenie?" Gally challenged the greenie, causing Aife to roll her eyes in annoyance with a hint of playfulness. He does this to every single greenie and it gets old. It's almost as if he's trying to prove his dominance and show that he deserves to be here. But he's got nothing to prove, they're not going anywhere.

Everyone began to chant, "Greenie Greenie Greenie!"

Minho had moved to sit down next to her, the both of them rolled their eyes and let out a huff at everyones immature actions.

The greenie stood up as Gally explained the rules, "Alright, The rules are simple greenie. I try to push you out of the circle, You try to last more than five seconds."

The gladers began to laugh and she grimaced at the sight of Gally, who came at the greenie and shoved him forcefully, yet effortlessly out of the circle and onto the arms of other gladers, Zart and Andrew,  who helped him back up.

Gally grabbed the greenie again and shoved him back onto the floor, his mouth was then full of sand causing her to snort loudly. Minho looked at her pointedly and fought back a smile.

"Come on, greenie, we're not done yet." Gally ordered as he jumped back and forth on his feet, the boy that laid on the floor stood up and huffed.

"Stop calling me greenie." Hes sassed towards the other boy, who wore a satisfied grin on his lips.

"Stop calling you that? What do you wanna be called? Shank? What do you think boys, does he look like a shank?" Gally joked causing the other boys to laugh along with him.

"Yeah!"

"Shank, shank, shank-" Aife chanted for Gally, but was cut off when Minho gave her a disapproving look, silently scolding the girl for her childish actions.

"What?" She asked quietly and shrugged. He shook his head and mumbled incoherently in disbelief.

The greenie charged at Gally, he tried to tackle him before he was shoved back onto the floor.

"You know what? I think i'm settled on shank."

The greenie charged at gally once more and had his arms around his torso, he was fighting against him, but he was loosing. Instead of tackling him, he was taking steps backwards as Gally kept his hands on him.

Gally is strong.

But the greenie is faster.

He quickly removed his hands from Gally and stepped out of the way, causing Gally to fall face first into the sand.

"Damn!" She put a hand over her mouth in an attempt to cover the laughs that erupted from her throat. The crowd of gladers cheered and had smiles on their faces as Gally processed what happened.

The greenie got a little too cocky, "Not bad for a greenie huh-"

He was cut off as Gally moved swiftly and kicked his legs out from under him. The boy fell to the floor and slammed his head down harshly on the sand.

They stood in silence as they waited for him to make another move, "Thomas..."

"Hey! Thomas! Ha!" The greenie, thomas, began to get exited at the remembrance of his name. He stood up and began to wave his fist in the air with joy.

"I remember my name it's- I'm Thomas!" The gladers watched with proud smiles on their face and Aife couldn't help but smirk.

"Thomas!!" Alby pointed at him causing all the gladers to erupt in cheers. Frypan and Aife made their way in front of him, she shook his hand and gave him a grin.

"Welcome home, Thomas."

Frypan handed him a jar of Gallys recipe and Thomas gulped it down and spat it into the air.

The cheers were quickly cut off when they heard a shriek come from inside the maze, "What was that?" Thomas gulped.

"Griever." She responded with a distant look in her eyes as her dark eyebrows pinched themselves together. They celebrated for a little while longer before she realized it was starting to get late, and they've all got jobs to do in the morning.

"Alright boys, let's pack it up. It's time to get to bed." She said as she wiped her hands on the back of her pants. She heard groans come from around her.

"Do we have to."

"A little longer? Please?"

She cocked up an eyebrow and narrowed her eyes at them, they then quickly scrambled to get to their hammocks causing the girl to chuckle.

The next morning, Aife woke up early and made her way over to the greenie who was still sleeping.

She clamped a hand over his mouth, causing him to jump in fear, "Shhhhh." She put her index finger over her own lips and motioned for him to follow her. He scrambled to his feet and ran after her and towards the wall filled with names.

The grass was slightly damp and with each step it took it caused small droplets of water to glisten on her boots.

"It's peaceful isn't it? I know it's hard to believe but it wasn't always this way. we have dark days." Aife spoke to him as she twirled the knife that was in her hand, she caught him eyeing it, "We've lost a lot of boys to fear. To panic. We've come far since then. Established order. Made peace."

The freckled boy watched the shorter girl with curiosity before he asked, "Why are you telling me this."

"Because you're not like the others. You're curious. But you're one of us now. You need to know what that means." She softly grabbed his hand and put the knife in it, closing his fingers for him to hold it in his own hands.

She motioned towards the wall and he slowly walked over to it and noticed all the names, with or without the lines crossed through them.

"What happened to them?" He asked as he gently brought his hands to trace the names. He pointed towards their most recent loss.

Landon.

"Like i said. Dark days." She spoke with her jaw clenched. He stepped forward before he started to carve his name into the concrete as she watched.

Currently, Newt and Aife are with Thomas and the other Track-hoes and Thomas thinks he's the most brilliant guy on the planet.

"Did anyone try climbing to the top?" He asked the two. Aife made eye contact with Zart who sat with a grin on his face, he was waiting for the girl to loose her temper.

"Tried it, the ivy doesn't go all the way to the top. And besides, where you gonna go from there?" Newt replied as he scratched his ear with his left hand.

"Okay, well what about the box? Y'know, next time it comes up you just g-"

"No, We've tried that." She said while cutting him off, her voice voice bitter, "Box won't go back down with someone in it."

"Okay, well what if we-"

"No, we've tried it, alright? Twice. Anything that you think of, we've already tried." Newt said as he shoved his shovel into the ground and leaned on it, giving Thomas his full attention to make sure he understood that they've tried almost everything.

"The only way out there is through the maze. Now look, you wanna be helpful? Go dig us up some more fertilizer." Aife snapped at him and threw a bucket at his feet, clearly irritated at him with of all his talking.

Zart didn't bother to hide his huge grin and chuckles, causing Aife to thwack him over the head with her palm.

Thomas walked off into the deadheads, but not before tripping on a stick, causing the girl to snort loudly. He glared back at her as she tried to contain her laughter. It was no use. Newt broke into a grin at the sound of the girls laughs. She playfully shoved Zart, who was now laughing as well and he shoved her back, the two began to wrestle for about five more minutes before they finally got back to work. Newt was laughing at they're childish behavior. It was rare that the girl acted this way around them, it's not every day that she's in a playful mood but when she is, they try to take in as much of it as they can.

They continued to work until they heard a loud, and clearly terrified, scream from a familiar voice.

Thomas.
