(Don't judge the names, I just came up with this on the spot)

"In order to enter the cove, you must exchange something that's as valuable as the treasure hidden inside." The spirit guarding the cove's voice boomed.

"What do you want in return?" Emmanuel asked.

"A human's life." The spirit responded.

The pirate stepped forward, but his companion held him back. "Emman... no. You can't-"

"No, it's alright." The pirate smiled weakly.

"But... you're the one who wanted the treasure the most!"

"It's alright. It's alright Isaiah... I have possessed the most valuable treasure and now I want to keep it safe." He kissed his forehead dearly.

Isaiah's grasp Emman tighter. "No, no... I need you Emmanuel. We can turn back, please..."

"Continue this for the both of us, partner." Emmanuel hugged Isaiah.

He could feel his heartbeat, and in the next moment, it stopped.

He was gone.
