chapter one hundred and nine

A light caress on her cheek, a low velvet-like voice whispering her name.

"Adena... Adena..."

The girl stirred awake upon hearing her name being called so softly.

"Hm... Regulus?" she mumbled, not opening her eyelids, still being half-asleep.

Sure that she was now hearing him, the boy continued, "I told you that one day I'd come pick you up and we would leave and fly away..."

"Hm."

"Let's do it today."

The girl finally opened her eyes to look at him. Her boyfriend was in front of her and for a moment she wondered if she was still sleeping, but he looked so real. Even in the obscurity she recognized his features. There was enough light coming from his slightly hidden wand for her to distinguish a hopeful glint in his eyes, as if he was really awaiting her answer.

"Today? What time is it?"

"It's five... "

"Why so early..." groaned Adena, still feeling tired.

"I... Stay with me for the day. Please, Adena."

The raven-haired male looked so serious, even desperate and had a pleading look painted on his face which worried the girl a little.

"I... am going to prepare myself, just wait here."

She started removing the blankets of her bed. The weather had become so chilly, it was much needed. As she stood up and made her way to her closet, she could feel her boyfriend's eyes on her, not leaving her for a second. She grabbed some clothes and started heading to the door.

"Wear warm clothes."

"It's okay I have you," she replied with the ghost of a grin on her lips, turning around to face him. The girl knew he wanted it, and she wanted it too. And so, she let herself fall into his arms, he gave her the tightest hug he had ever offered, leaving her almost breathless, but she too needed that, to feel his presence so close. It made her heart burst with joy. The two lovers shared a quick but full of love kiss before she finally left the room to get ready, a feeling of warmth and relief blooming in her chest.

It took her some minutes before she could completely wake up and prepare herself. But she was quick enough since she wanted to be back to her boyfriend. The girl really wanted to spend as much time as possible with him now that he came back to her. It had been so long since they were together.

"Here, take this," he said, offering her his green and silver Slytherin scarf as she opened the door. The girl let him tie it around her neck.

"But you won't be cold?"

"It doesn't matter if I get cold..."

"Yes, it does," pouted the girl.

"I'll be fine," he said with a reassuring smile, offering a caress to her hair.

They disappeared and apparated back to Regulus' room. The desk was tidied up this time. Everything was tidy. More than usual, she noticed. It took only a matter of seconds for him to take his broomstick and apparated outside, in an empty street. She could see the sun starting to rise up in the horizon, it was still dawn, still so early, leaving them all alone outside. A gush of wind passed over them, making her shiver. Regulus arrived behind her, letting one of his arms fall on her shoulders, leading her to a more secured place.

"Okay, we'll fly off now," only said the boy as he started climbing on his broom, waiting for Adena to do the same.

She climbed up behind him, sticking herself close to his back, her arms snaking around his waist to hold him tight. His warmth was already starting to envelop her. With a smile, she pressed her cheek to his travel cloak, as he flew off in the air. Regulus went high fast, in order to avoid any Muggle. And when they reached the clouds, he started flying straight again. They witnessed such a beautiful sunrise, one of the prettiest sights Adena had ever witnessed. And she was happy, the day seemed to be starting so well.

For hours, they flew. They had left the city a long time ago, the urban landscape had been replaced by forests and mountains, with only small villages. The silence was only broken during the many times Regulus asked his girlfriend if everything was okay for her, which she would always reply affirmatively.

"Adena, how are you?" said the boy once they touched the ground.

"I'm still doing okay," she chuckled lightly before becoming serious again. "But how are you?"

"I'm happy, now." And he gave her a small smile.

"Aren't you tired? We've been flying for hours..."

"No, I'm fine. I'll fly for the whole day anyway, so it doesn't matter," replied the boy still smiling but Adena wasn't pleased by his attitude. However, she said nothing, and followed him as they walked. He couldn't be fine, he looked completely exhausted and had probably worked all night on the stuff he had been working on for the past month. In fact, his face was still as hollowed as last time they met. But he gave her a different impression this time.

"Here's some lunch, made by Kreacher. It's only sandwiches but it should be enough," murmured Regulus, sitting down on the grass where laid orange and red leaves. The air was still fresh, a typical temperature for autumn, but they were lucky enough to have sun.

"Kreacher? Is he feeling better?" asked the girl curiously. Last time she saw him at Regulus' house, he almost started panicking when she asked him if he was feeling better, telling the girl he didn't want to talk about it.

"Yes, much better. He's thankful you took care of him as well."

"I feel relieved then..." she answered while taking one of the sandwiches he was handing her. Kreacher's food was so pleasant to eat, it made her happy. His well-being was some good news at least.

"What have you planned for the rest of the day?"

"We'll just fly away..." replied the boy, looking up at the sky and she paused, thinking about what he meant.

"Are we running away?" she asked dumbfounded.

"As much as I'd like to, no. Let's just fly today..."

Adena was looking at him with so much insistence, she could swear she just saw his gaze clouded with the slightest hint of sadness.

When they finished eating, they just decided to lie down in the grass, observing the clouds move in silence. They were holding onto each other, sharing their warmth with the other in this way. No word was needed, just snuggling into one another. No matter how cold it was getting after hours had passed, Adena didn't want to leave. Not yet. It was almost as if she feared leaving. Her hands would clutch to her boyfriend's clothes and his arms would hold her tighter in return. The brunette wished this moment could last forever, where she would just be lying in the arms of the one she loved, in such a beautiful place surrounded by nature.

Time felt like it had gone by in such a short time when she noticed the sun started to set while they had been lying together for hours, in complete silence. The sky was being painted with orangish colors, and soon with more pinkish shades. She had no idea why, but that sight made her feel somehow emotional. It was the end of the day, the end of such great moments spent by Regulus' side that day, and she didn't want this to end. She was scared to go back to her life from the days before, or worse. She was lost in her thoughts, as if hypnotized by the view nature was offering her. Her mind chose to focus on something else rather than Regulus' stare on her or the slight looseness of his arms around her, probably signaling it was time for them to go back.

"Adena..." he whispered, sounding almost pained. He didn't want to leave neither, but it felt like he had to.

"No... I don't wanna leave yet..." she whispered, not daring to stare back at him.

Adena could hear the boy sigh almost inaudibly. And happily for her, he didn't move more, he too contemplating the sunset with so much focus and intensity, as if it was the last time he was seeing the sun.
