ISABELLE FINDS ADELAIDE IN THE WEAPONS ROOM, but she wasn't particularly doing anything, only staring at the rack of seraph blades. She walks over to the girl, placing her hand on Adelaides shoulder to get her attention. Adelaide jumps slightly, turning around, only to see that it was Isabelle. "Oh, hi." She says softly and Isabelle looked a bit concerned, wondering if there was something on her mind.
"Are you okay?" Isabelle asks curiously as she lifts her hand to the woman's arm, rubbing it slightly. Adelaide nods her head, brushing her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm good." Adelaide says, not wanting Isabelle to worry about her. Isabelle didn't exactly take it quickly though as she was still quite concerned for her.
"Are you sure?" She questions and Adelaide let's out a small sigh, giving a soft smile and taking the girls hand in her own, giving it a tight squeeze.
"Izzy, Im fine, promise." She assures the woman who still didn't quite believe her but decided to leave the subject. "Did you need something?" Adelaide asks, wondering why she had walked over to her.
"I just wanted to let you know that we might have found a way to unlink Clary from Jonathan." Isabelle tells her and Adelaide raises her eyebrows.
"Really, how?"
"Simon's going undercover at the gard." Adelaide was a bit confused on what that had to do with Clary and Jonathan.
"The gard? Isn't that really dangerous?" Adelaide asks her and Isabelle nods her head.
"If it works, we could potentially find more about heavenly fire." Isabelle points out and yeah that would be good, but it would only work if Simon survived going to to gard.
"How is this supposed to unlink Clary?"
"We think we can do it with the sword glorious, we just have to find it." Isabelle explains to her and Adelaide nods her head but she was still confused with a part of the plan.
"Oh, so Simon going to the prison isn't really a part of it." Adelaide says, tilting her head as she didn't see what Simon going to the gard had to do with it.
"No, but we need to figure out what they're doing to the downworlders there." Isabelle tells her and Adelaide scoffs, her jaw clenching as the clave wasn't exactly about following their own rules.
"Probably torturing them." She mumbles as she looks down at her feet, kicking one against the ground. Isabelle frowns as she takes a step closer to the woman.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Isabelle asks again, she could obviously see that something was bothering Adelaide. And when she shakes her head, it confirmed it for Isabelle.
"Alec broke up with me."
"What?" Her voice was full of shock, her eyes wide as she did not expect Adelaide to say that Alec had broken up with her. Isabelle knew her brother was an idiot, but not that much. "When did this happen?" Isabelle asks curiously, tilting her head.
"Last night." She admits and Isabelle just didn't understand why they would suddenly break up like that.
"Why?"
"I..." She trails off for a moment, closing her eyes and Isabelle just waits patiently for her to finish her sentence. "I accepted jonathans deal." Adelaide tells her and Isabelle's eyes widen, that was not exactly what she thought they fought about. But honestly, why would Alec break up with her over that?
"By the angel, why would you do that?" Isabelle asks, placing her hands on her hips. She didn't mean to sound like she was scolding her, she was just in shock.
"I wasn't really thinking, I just wanted my magic back." Adelaide admits, she should've thought more about it but she didn't. She just took the deal without even thinking of the consequences.
"But how did Jonathan even get it back?" Isabelle questions, being more confused on how Jonathan could even make the deal. Adelaide shakes her head, bringing her hands up to her face.
"I-i honestly don't know." She retorts, she couldn't wrap her brain around that right now. She was so preoccupied with the fact that Alec left her. Isabelle sighs as she grabs the girls hand, giving it a squeeze.
"We'll figure it okay, okay?" She states but she could see that Adelaide was hurting, and there really wasn't much Isabelle could do to comfort her. "I'm sure you'll work it out, Adelaide." Isabelle assures her and Adelaide nods her head but honestly, she wasn't sure if that was true. Alec seemed completely done with her and she honestly didn't blame him. She knew she treated him horribly and that she should trust him more but, she gets so wound up in herself, that she just forgets.
But Adelaide didn't know if they'd come back from this, if they'd come back from the fight.
☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎
ALEC WAS SAT IN HIS OFFICE, staring at the engagement ring in his hand. Last night did not exactly go as planned. He wanted to propose to her and instead, he broke things off with her. It was just in the heat of the moment and he was just so angry at her for accepting Jonathan's deal without even consulting with him. Alec didn't know what to do now, especially since not only do that have the Clary and Jonathan problem, Jonathan now had a hold of Adelaide as well. But Alec knew Adelaide would never risk bringing Lilith back up from Edom.
A knock on the door takes him out of his thoughts as he glances over, seeing that it was Jace. "Bad time?" The man asks but Alec shakes his head, putting the ring away. He clears his throat before meeting jaces gaze.
"No, it's fine." Alec says with a sigh as he clenches his jaw. "What do you need?" He asks curiously and Jace only walks into the room, stopping by the man's desk.
"I just came to talk." Jace admits and Alec furrows his eyebrows, sitting up in his chair and placing his elbows on the desk.
"About what?"
"Adelaide told me about your fight." He tells Alec who tenses a bit, his eyes moving down to his hands for a moment.
"Oh." Alec hums as he thinks back on his argument that he had with Adelaide. "Yeah, it just... I don't know." He honestly didn't want to think about it anymore, at least not right now.
"Weren't you going to propose to her?" Jace asks, he remembered Alec telling him about it but clearly the night did not go as he planned.
"I was." Alec says as he nods his head. "I'm not so sure anymore." He admits as he fiddles with his fingers.
"Look, I know she went behind your back and made that deal with Jonathan, but you have to see it from her point of view." Jace explains to him but Alec didn't think he could, just because she didn't have her magic anymore, didn't mean she could just make deals with people they were trying to capture. "She just wanted her magic back." He tells Alec who only sighs.
"And we could've figured out a way without her making a deal with the enemy." He retorts as he shakes his head. Alec knew she couldn't go to Lorenzo but surely there was another way. There was a way that Jonathan was able to get her powers back, so his deal was clearly not the only way.
"Alec, you can't let something like this get in between you." Jace admits as he knew Adelaide had messed up a bit but it didn't mean that Alec had to break up with her over it.
"It already has." Alec mumbles as he stares down at his hands. Jace sighs as he leans against the desk, crossing his arms against his chest.
"Well, you can talk it out."
"Jace, I appreciate you coming here but I just.. I need to think about it on my own." He explains to the man, just needing to be by himself. Jace seemed to understand but he needed Alec to really consider going back to Adelaide.
"You love each other, Alec. You shouldn't waste that." Jace tells him, it was clear that they were in love, they just seemed to butt heads often.
"I do love her, even when she makes these idiotic decisions of hers." Alec admits, he really did love her but sometimes, it was hard to be with her when she acted this way. Jace bites the inside of his cheek, nodding his head slowly.
"Okay, well, I guess you should think it over by yourself. I just wanted to check up on you." He says as he brings his hand to Alec's shoulder, giving a reassuring smile. "Just make the right decision, otherwise you may regret it in a few years time." Jace admits, squeezing Alec's shoulder before turning and leaving the man to think about it.
Alec knew that if he decided to just let adelaide go, he may regret it in the future. Especially if he sees her move on with someone else, he would realize what he missed out on. But if he continued to be with Adelaide, he needed her to be more open with him and not make these drastic decisions on her own.
It was definitely something he had to think long and hard about. He loved her, that was never in question, but sometimes even if you love someone, you still need to let them go.
☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎
ADELAIDE WALKS INTO THE COMMON ROOM, seeing Isabelle walking back and forth, seemingly nervous about something. Adelaide furrows her eyebrows as she walks over to the girl, Isabelle noticing her.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Adelaide asks her curiously as she stops in front of the woman, crossing her arms against her chest.
"Waiting to find out why Raphael was sent to heavingly fire." Isabelle replies and Adelaide was a bit confused, she knew Raphael was taken by the clave because he surrendered himself but why would they send him to heavingly fire?
"What?"
"Yeah, he was taken there." Isabelle states and Adelaide furrows her eyebrows as she crosses her arms against her chest.
"But why? He doesn't meet the criteria they use." She points out and Isabelle just let's out a sigh as she shrugs her shoulders.
"I don't know, I'm just really worried about him." Isabelle admits as she starts pacing back and forth again. Adelaide sighs as she rubs her face, Raphael didn't deserve any sort of torture.
"Is there anything I can do?" She asks curiously but Isabelle only shakes her head.
"Not until we can find out who is in charge of it." Isabelle tells her and Adelaide nods her head before placing her hands on her hips.
"How do you know Raphael is there?" Adelaide questions but she immediately answers it as she remembered that Isabelle told her earlier about Simon going undercover. "Right, Simon." She mumbles as she glances around the room.
"I was able to access Raphael Santiago's prisoner profile." Aline tells them as she walks into the room, stopping beside to two women. "His profile has the same prefix as the other heavenly fire prisoners. But weirdly, his transfer request was put in after Raphael arrived at the gard." She explains to them and Adelaide shares a confused look with Isabelle. That wasn't something that happened frequently.
"Who would be interested in Raphael?" Isabelle asks curiously as she was trying to figure out what part Raphael played in all this. "Was Jia mentioned in the file?" She questions hesitantly and Aline looked slightly offended that Isabelle had asked her that.
"No, of course not." She denies as she shakes her head, crossing her arms against her chest. "Whoever's responsible for this is doing it behind my mom's back." Aline explains to them and Adelaide nods her head.
"Jia may have some.. odd ways of going about things, but she would never do this sort of thing." Adelaide adds and Isabelle sighs, running a hand through her hair, she was just trying to figure it out.
"Who else was there when the request was put in?" Isabelle asks, maybe that would give them some sort of clue as to who could be behind this project.
"The only person at the gard who's high enough to pull something like this off is.." Aline trails off as the person shows up on the screen.
"Victor Aldertree?" Isabelle asks, almost not believing what she was seeing on the screen. Adelaide glances over, and there his name was with his picture.
"Of course." Adelaide mutters with a scoff, shaking her head. Of all the people in the clave, Victor would definitely do something like this. He has always made his disliking towards Downworlders very apparent. But going as far as torturing them, that was a low blow.
☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎
ADELAIDE AND ISABELLE WERE STOOD TOGETHER IN THE WEAPONS ROOM, Aline was explaining to them what had been going on at the gard. It was even worse than they had thought to begin with. "All these downworld prisoners, they're having their powers taken away, their traits. Werewolves, vampires, warlocks, seelies. They're making them all mundane by injecting them with heavenly fire." She explains and Adelaide couldn't really believe what she was hearing. They were basically forcing them to be cured.
"So, the claves had glorious all along?" Isabelle asks her with a scoff, of course they wouldn't say anything to anyone because they knew it was wrong. Aline shakes her head.
"Just a fragment of the sword but enough to make a serum." Aline tells her and Isabelle clenches her jaw. Adelaide crosses her arms against her chest.
"The clave really just keeps breaking their own rules." Adelaide found it funny how they were so strict and were so quick to de rune someone for the smallest thing, and yet they were able to force downworlders to become mundane. It was completely unethical.
"This is the claves perverted way of rehabilitating their prisoners?" Isabelle asks, shaking her head. Aline knew that there were still good people in the Clave. The bad outweighed the good though.
"Aldertree. Not the clave." She corrects and Adelaide rolls her eyes. Out of all people, she was least surprised that it was him doing this. "And it gets worse." Aline admits and Isabelle groans, how could it possibly get any worse?
"How?"
"Aldertree is planning on using the serum beyond the prison populations. He has the plan to slip in into the water supply in new York city as a trail run, for worldwide disbursement." Aline tells them and both of the girls eyes widen tremendously.
"So, all downworlders get cured whether they like it or not?" Isabelle asks with a scoff, shaking her head. She was all for curing downworlders, but only if they wanted it.
"Honestly, I'm not surprised by certain shadowhunters actions anymore." Adelaide admits as she stopped believing the best in people a long time ago. Isabelle nods her head in agreement.
"Do you have the location?" She questions the woman who looks down at her tablet to confirm it.
"I've got coordinates." Aline says as she nods her head. Isabelle makes eye contact with Adelaide, they knew they had to go and stop this before it was too late.
"Okay, go get backup. We have to get Simon out of there." Isabelle tells her and Aline nods her head before leaving the two girls alone.
☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎
THEY WERE ALL STOOD IN THE LAB AS ISABELLE EXPLAINED WHAT THE HEAVINGLY FIRE DID. They were able to spare a few samples from where Aldertree had been injecting downworlders while as the rest of the supply had been blown up. They couldn't risk anyone using it in the water supply. Luckily, few downworlders were cured, Raphael being one of them.
"So, you think this can separate me from Jonathan?" Clary asks curiously as she looks at Isabelle who lets out a sigh.
"We have to run some tests but yeah." Isabelle responds as she runs a hand through her hair. Clary shakes her head with a grateful smile on her lips.
"I can't believe you guys did this. Without out it, we would have nothing." She admits as there was so much that could have gone wrong with their plan. Simon only puts his hand on Clarys shoulder.
"Fray, we'd do anything for you. Especially if it means disconnecting you from your creepy brother." Simon says with a grimace. Clary smiles as she nods her head. Alec sighs as he crosses his arms against his chest.
"Well, we have the heavenly fire. We don't know where the morningstar is but the only two people who can use it are right here at the institute." Alec points out as he meets Adelaide's eyes for a moment but she quickly looks away from him.
"Aldertree will be prosecuted for his crimes against the accords. And Jia is considering commuting Raphael's sentence, along with the other downworlders now turned to mundanes." Isabelle explains to them as she plants her hands on her hips. Adelaide still couldn't believe that Aldertree was forcing downworlders to become mundane.
"It's the least they could do." Simon mutters as he shakes his head. Alec clears his throat as he rubs the back of his neck.
"Well, if I'm not longer needed here, there's somewhere I need to be." Alec mumbles before walking away, not leaving much room for debate. Jace flickers his eyes towards Adelaide for a moment. He knew of Alec's former plans and it hurt him that now, it seemed that the two would just grow more distant.
"I need to see Jonathan." Clary states as she looks towards Jace, bringing him out of his thoughts.
"Ill come with you." Jace says with a nod but his eyes move back over to Adelaide. "Just give me a second." He tells her and Clary nods her head. Jace walks over to Adelaide who was staring down at the tablet in her hand but not doing anything on it. "Hey." Jace says, nudging her shoulder. She only glances up at him. "Do you think it would work on you?" He asks curiously and Adelaide only furrows her eyebrows.
"What?" She asks curiously, wondering what he was referring to.
"The heavingly fire." Jace states as he gestured to where Izzie was. Adelaide sighs as she shrugs her shoulders.
"I mean.. maybe. But Izzy said they had to stick it into Jonathan. I doubt we'd get that close to Lilith." Adelaide points out, it's not only trying to get close to Lilith, it was the fact that if they went to Edom, the woman would be way more powerful than them.
"We can still try." Jace points out and Adelaide just let's out a sigh.
"Let's just focus on Clary for now, okay?" Adelaide knew that Jonathan was the bigger threat right now, they needed to get rid of him.
"Fine. But we are gonna figure this out." He says, not about to give up on her. Adelaide smiles softly, nodding her head.
"Okay." But adelaide didn't know if that was true, she still didn't understand the true extent of how Jonathan even got her powers back. And she didn't even know if the heavingly fire would work on Lilith if they were even able to inject her with it.
Because of course, plans usually went awry for them.
