CHAPTER SEVEN. STUPID RONALD WEASLEY

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

The next two weeks were spent with Evangeline slowly beginning to study for her O.W.L. exams. She had decided to heed her sister's advice and began preparing earlier than necessary. She wanted to get high scores on the exams and wouldn't settle for anything less than Exceeds Expectations. Her grades were something that she took seriously, even though there were times that she'd rather relax then study.

At the moment, Evangeline was reading through her Herbology textbook, jotting down notes on the Spiky Bush. She was trying to refresh her memory on the plant seeing as she learned about it her second year at Hogwarts. She was sat on her bed, alone in her room. Cleo had went to the library to do her homework and Hermione was most likely with Harry and Ronald.

Evangeline flipped to the next page in the textbook. Her eyes read over the words on the page, her mind soaking up the information. The door of her dorm abruptly slammed open, Evangeline jumping at the sound. Her eyes snapped to the door, heart racing. The first thing she saw was a head of curly light brown hair and she relaxed slightly.

"Merlin, Granger! Scare me to death why don't you," she said in annoyance. Her eyes were narrowed at her roommate who sent her an apologetic look. "Sorry. I was just coming to get my History of Magic textbook," Hermione apologized. Evangeline nodded, "Already preparing for the O.W.L.s too?" Hermione looked up at her in surprise. Evangeline usually didn't speak to her, save for a few words. She was surprised that the girl had continued on with a conversation.

"Uh, yeah. I just wanted to get a head start. Nothing too crazy. Not yet anyway," she responded and Evangeline nodded again. "Yeah, me too. Vivian suggested that I start studying early. I don't know why I didn't think to do that," she said. Hermione nodded, a small smile on her face. Evangeline went back to reading her textbook, thinking that the conversation was done. But Hermione Granger would not let the opportunity of finally getting to converse with the Caspian girl go to waste. She felt as though this was her chance to possibly become friends with Evangeline.

"What're you studying now?" She asked. Evangeline looked up at her, wondering why the girl didn't see that she was done with the conversation. "Herbology," she answered. Hermione nodded, taking a seat on her own bed. "Maybe we could study together. You know, if you want," she proposed. Evangeline pursed her lips, her eyes looking the girl up and down.

"I prefer to study alone," she responded. And just like that, any hope that maybe the Caspian girl was turning over a new leaf, that she was finally willing to make friends with her roommate, had vanished from Hermione's mind. The Granger girl nodded her head. "Yeah of course. I understand," she said. Evangeline nodded as well before turning back to her textbook. And that was the end of the conversation.

Hermione stood from her bed, gripping onto her History of Magic textbook. "Well, I'm gonna go, uh, study. Maybe I can get Harry and Ron to study with me," she said with a slight laugh. Evangeline nodded again, not looking up at Hermione. "Have fun," she muttered. Hermione started for the door, turning around to face her roommate. Evangeline's eyes were glued to the book, occasionally jotting things down onto her parchment paper.

With a sigh, Hermione exited the room, softly closing the door behind her.

Evangeline rushed down the corridor, her loud footsteps echoing as she ran. The hallways were nearly empty, the students already in their classes. However she was about to be late. She had just gotten into an argument with her Arithmancy teacher, Professor Vector, for the grade she had gotten on a previous essay assignment.

Professor Vector had thought that the topic of the essay was too broad and that she didn't grasp the idea of the assignment. Evangeline thought that the professor was an idiot and had no idea what she was talking about. On any other day, she would praise the woman on her brilliance. But today, she was absolutely pissed off.

And after a long argument, one that Evangeline didn't win, she decided to make her way to her next class. Which just so happened to be her Defense Against The Dark Arts class taught by none other than Professor Umbridge. A woman that would not be pleased with Evangeline's tardiness. And while Evangeline didn't care if the woman was upset, she was not in the mood to hear her annoying voice drone on and on about the importance of being on time.

So, she was running to her next class. She ignored the footsteps coming from behind her and continued on her journey. That was until a body slammed into her own, knocking her to the ground, her things scattering all over. The person who had ran into her had fallen too. However, he quickly stood up, gathering his things and began to run off to wherever he was heading. Not sparing Evangeline a glance.

The girl caught sight of red hair that belonged to none other than Ronald Weasley. "Are you kidding me? You're just gonna run into me and not even apologize. What the bloody hell is wrong with you, you pest?" She exclaimed. "Gotta get to class," was all he said. Evangeline huffed angrily, "Stupid wanker!" She quickly stood, gathering her books into her arms and slinging her backpack over her shoulder.

She quickly brushed her hair from her face and continued down the hallway. The chime of the bell sounded and she picked up her pace. When it finished ringing she slowed down to a walk. She was already late, no point in trying to rush anymore.

When she finally arrived to class, almost two minutes late, Professor Umbridge was less than pleased. "Ah, Miss Caspian. How kind of you to join us," the woman dressed in pink said, her faux smile sending a spike of annoyance through Evangeline. "Yeah, sorry I'm late. I got held up in my Arithmancy class." Her eyes scanned the classroom, landing on a certain redheaded boy, who had managed to make it to class on time. Evangeline sent the boy a nasty glare and he averted his eyes, opting to look at his desk instead.

"Is that so?" The woman questioned, stepping away from her desk. Evangeline nodded her head. "Use your words, Miss Caspian," Umbridge said, her happy facade beginning to fall. Evangeline suppressed an eye roll. "Yes, Professor Umbridge. If you'd like, you can speak to Professor Vector," she said. Umbridge sent her another faux smile. "That won't be necessary," she said, walking down the few stairs at the front of the room.

She slowly made her way down the row of desks to where Evangeline stood by the door. "So, what, pray tell, were you doing in your Arithmancy class that resulted in you being late to my class?" She asked. Evangeline sighed, trying to contain her annoyance. "I was having a conversation with Professor Vector," she said. "What about?" Umbridge asked. "About a grade that I got on a previous essay that I had written," Evangeline answered.

Professor Umbridge giggled that annoying little giggle of hers. "So you are telling me that you've arrived to my class late because you received a grade that you didn't like on an essay for another class," she said. Evangeline pressed her lips together, her annoyance growing. "I'm only two minutes late," she said. Professor Umbridge tsked, "Late is late, Miss Caspian."

The woman turned away from the girl, looking around the classroom. All eyes were on the two and Evangeline wanted to slap everyone in the room. Ronald Weasley more than anyone else. "You will have detention today after classes in my office," Professor Umbridge said. Evangeline scoffed, "For being late? Come on Professor, you can't be serious."

"Oh I am very serious Miss Caspian. You came to my classroom late. You need to be punished," the woman stated. "But she was barely late, Professor." All eyes turned to look at Harry Potter, who was the one to have spoken. "Mr. Potter, this matter does not concern you. Now, unless you would like another detention, I suggest you keep quiet," Umbridge snapped. Evangeline was no longer hiding her annoyance, letting it show on her features.

"I think you're being a little unreasonable, Professor. Professor Vector can—"

"I do not care about what your Arithmancy Professor can or cannot tell me. You were late and you have detention. End of discussion. Now, have a seat, Miss Caspian," the woman said, going back to her desk. Evangeline glared at the back of her head, wanting to say something more. However, she refrained from doing so, not wanting to receive another detention.

Evangeline looked around the classroom for an empty seat, finding one to the far left in the front of the classroom next to a Ravenclaw boy named Aldon Carlisle. She trudged to the seat, the eyes of the students following her as she went. Throwing her backpack to the ground, Evangeline dropped into the chair. She didn't spare a glance at the boy sat next to her. Her body turned around, her eyes landing on the redhead who had made her late. She sent him another mean glare, one that caused him to shift uncomfortably in his seat.

She turned back to face the front, pulling out her things for the class. She was pissed beyond belief. "Everyone get to work," Professor Umbridge said after noticing that the students were staring at Evangeline, anticipating her next move. When nobody did as they were told, the woman in pink grew angry. "Now!" She shouted, everyone following her instructions. Except for Evangeline who stared the woman down.

The Professor didn't look her way and Evangeline leaned back in he seat, crossing her arms over her chest. She looked to the front of the room, not doing anything. Umbridge noticed this and glared at the girl who only sent the woman a wicked smile in return.
