REAL LIFE
LUNA SAT DOWN at her setup, putting her water bottle down next to her and placing her headset on. She reached back and adjusted the bow she had put in her hair โ it was sort of a thing between her and her fanbase, both on Twitch and in the music world, because she always seemed to wear one on stream and on stage. Luna made sure everything was set up correctly before pressing that she wanted to go live on her Twitch account, lunalikethemoon.
"Okay," Luna began, mostly to herself. She watched as her chat pretty much jump-started, moving quick on one of her monitors. Luna smiled brightly and waved a little at the camera. "Hi chat."
Chat replied with their greetings, mostly of hi luna, LUNA!!!!, and a shit ton of her bow emotes that she had for them. She felt her smile widen even further โ she loved her chat, and she loved her community. They just seemed to get each other. It was truly the reason she started streaming in the first place. Ever since she began making music, she wanted to get closer to people that adored her, and streaming was the answer. It was definitely the best idea she ever had. Being a streamer and a music artist was a full on dream, and Luna still couldn't believe that she was able to do what she loved every day.
Not to mention that she met so many incredible people. To be honest, a lot of people that Luna met were through Foolish. Most notably, just to name a few, were Karl โ her other neighbor, TinaKitten, Hannah, Sylvee, Valkyrae, Kkatamina, and Sykkuno. She had gotten pretty close with Karl and Tina, and she was very friendly with Rae and Miyoung. Luna would often find herself in a Valorant lobby with some of them or others in that group, like she was right now.
"I know I didn't have my usual starting soon screen or anything, so sorry for the kind of abrupt start," Luna continued. "I just got invited to a Valo lobby that's in, like, fifteen minutes, but Foosh wants to chat for a bit before then, so that's what we're doing."
Luna glanced back over to her chat, reading the messages that flew by.
"Who's in the Valo lobby?" Luna read out loud. "Me, Foolish, Rae, Miyoung, and Blau." She opened up her Spotify. "Okay, hold on, let me put on some music."
luna you're taking forever, she saw Foolish say in chat.
She put a blank look on her face. "Will you let me set up my Taylor Swift? Just for a second."
if you must.
"I'm so very glad I got your stamp of approval." Luna shuffled her playlist, hearing the beginning of Daylight, before moving over to Discord and finding the voice channel Foolish was sitting in by himself. She joined it, the bubbles so that people could see who was talking showing up on her screen. "You're so impatient."
"And you're late," Foolish countered.
So there it was โ their easy banter. No matter what, Luna and Foolish always seemed to fall into a rhythm with each other. That's just the way they were, ever since they met when Foolish moved to North Carolina about three months ago. Luna always thought it had something to do with their personalities. Foolish, in short, was chaotic. On the other hand, Luna was calm. Luna seemed to bring out the calmer side of him, and Foolish seemed to bring out the chaotic side of her. They just balanced each other out.
She also couldn't help the racing heart she got the second she heard his voice โ fuck, this was pathetic. Pining over a boy who she couldn't have because he was dating her best friend. She smacked herself out of her state and focused on what he had just said.
Luna's eyebrows knit in confusion. "No the fuck I'm not. I said five minutes. It's been five minutes. I'm not late."
"My timer went off ten seconds before you came, which means you're late," Foolish said.
"Shut the hell up, you're from Ohio."
"What does Ohio have to do with this?" Foolish argued.
"Exactly," Luna responded.
"What?"
"Thought so." Luna smiled, practically feeling Foolish's exasperation through the screen. "What's up with you, Mr. Gamers? Any particular reason you wanted to chat?"
"Just wanted to talk to you," Foolish voiced simply. "Little calm in the storm."
Luna wanted to frown, but she didn't show it on stream. The storm could only really refer to one thing โ Mary Jane. Ever since yesterday and their fight on the phone, Mary Jane had been closed off, so much that it was hard for even Luna to break down her walls, and Luna was the only one who could get Mary Jane to admit what was wrong. Every time Luna tried to ask, Mary Jane just brushed it aside. And here was Foolish, saying that he was also just hopelessly lost.
To say that Luna was worried was an understatement. Don't get her wrong, her mind was practically screaming that Foolish belonged with her (as selfish as it sounded), but she didn't want them to fight. She would sacrifice her own feelings for Mary Jane's happiness any day, and lately, she just seemed dimmed. Luna didn't want to see Mary Jane like that, and she didn't want to see Foolish like that.
God. Maybe she should write another song.
Luna shrugged. "I'm always down to be the calm in the storm, Foosh."
Foolish sighed on the other end. "You know, Lunes, I don't know why I keep inviting you to everything. My chat is always more excited to see you than they are to see me."
"Maybe because I'm actually nice to them?" Luna guessed. "Or because I feed them when you don't? Try changing your ways and then come back to me with the results. I'll be waiting to say I told you so."
"Luna, I'll kick you and the bow in your hair out of this call," Foolish threatened.
"Ooh, don't threaten me with a good time," Luna responded easily. She smiled a little wider, moving some hair off of her shoulder as Daylight changed to Style on her playlist. "On second thought, uninviting me from this would be actually so rude, and I'd never forgive you."
"Try me. I'll uninvite you right now."
Luna's jaw fell open a little. "If you uninvite me, my mom will call your mom, and you'll be uninvited from my Teen Beach Movie themed birthday party."
"You're going to get the moms involved?" Foolish asked, a laugh slipping through his words, one that made Luna's heart practically soar. "That takes the feud to the next level."
"I can almost guarantee you that your mom will just tell you to be nice to me. Your sisters, too."
"That is actually so unfair. You know Ems and Moo always side with you on everything."
"And I'll use it to my advantage," Luna stated.
She laughed a little and glanced back over at her chat. They were spamming a lot of emotes, and there was a lot of encouragement for Luna to keep going, saying end him!
"There's no way my mom just typed in my chat to be nice to you," Foolish revealed.
Luna gasped excitedly. "Oh my gosh, hi, Mama Foosh!" She giggled a little. "What'd I say? I'm just a fan favorite."
"Unbelievable. That's actually garbage."
Suddenly, the Discord alert sounded through her headset, signaling that someone else joined the call. Luna glanced over to see that Valkyrae had joined their call, exactly ten minutes before their Valo lobby.
"I'm not late!" Rae exclaimed. "I'm early! For once!"
"Hi, Rae," Luna greeted, perking up a bit โ Rae's energy was truly contagious.
"Oh my God, Luna! It's been decades!"
"It has been decades, truly." Luna went to speak again, but the sound of Spanish cut her off. Her face fell slightly, and she got an incredulous look on her face. "I know you started your Duolingo right then on purpose to cut me off, you jerk."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Foolish replied.
Luna's eyes narrowed. "I can hear your smirk. You're not slick, you bitch. And you didn't even say hi to Rae."
"Rae!" Foolish then shouted, getting hyped.
"Foolish!" Rae yelled back, matching his energy just like she always did. "Hope you guys don't mind me just hopping in this call."
"Oh, not at all," Luna reassured her. "Foosh and I were just talking for a little bit, mostly about how his mom likes me more than him."
"That is not true," Foolish protested. He then paused for a second. "Right, mom?"
"Ooh," Rae let out, letting the word drag. "That's, uh . . . that's gotta hurt."
"But now we can just yell at Miyoung and Blau for being late," Luna announced.
"Dibs on yelling at Blau."
"You've got full reigns on that one, babe." Luna checked the time quickly for a moment. "Uh, hold on. I'm gonna go to the bathroom real quick before we start."
"Why didn't you go before starting your stream?" Foolish questioned.
"Because you had me on a five minute timer," Luna reminded him. "Ever think of that one?"
" . . . Touchรฉ."
Rae giggled. "I love you two."
Luna stood up from her chair. "I'll be right back."
She took off her headset and put it on her desk. Luna walked out of her room and shut the door behind her, her hand on the doorknob to the bathroom in the hall she shared with Mary Jane, when the very person who she shared that bathroom with stopped her.
"So," Mary Jane began.
Luna paused. She turned to see Mary Jane in her bedroom. Mary Jane looked more up done than she had yesterday โ her usual red lipstick was painting her lips, and she was wearing a cute outfit. She was curled up on her bed, her computer perched on her lap. Faintly, Luna could hear End Game playing, which was the song Luna's playlist was playing as she left, telling Luna Mary Jane had been watching her stream.
"Hi, MJ," Luna voiced. "What's up?"
"Heard you talking to Noah," Mary Jane continued, her voice void of any emotion, which made it hard for Luna to now what she was feeling.
Luna nodded slowly, not really following. "Uh, yeah. He invited me to play Valo but wanted to chat a little bit before then. Why?"
"Oh, no reason. It's just . . . he hasn't returned any of my texts or calls, but he talked to you."
"Maybe try going over to his house later when he's not streaming," Luna suggested. "It'd probably be better to talk in person. I also did say yesterday to try again tomorrow."
"I guess you're right," Mary Jane responded. "Well, I won't keep you much longer, I know you have to go stream."
Luna gave her a tight smile before going into the bathroom. She shut the door behind her, letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding in. This whole situation seemed to be getting messier, and somehow, she just found herself in the middle of it all.
