REAL LIFE
LUNA PACED AROUND the kitchen of Foolish's house, her AirPods in her ears and her guitar in her hands. She was listening to voice memos of herself singing the song she was perfecting, and right now she was strumming along to figure out the right chords. The song in question was called The blue, which out of all the songs she was writing was one of the only true love songs. She wasn't really sure how she came up with the idea for the song โ it just popped into her mind one day.
The only reason why she was here, instead of pacing around her own bedroom, was because Mary Jane wanted to film a self tape for an audition with Nolan's help. In order to not have any distractions, Mary Jane asked Luna to leave for just a little bit, which was fine with her. Her and Nolan basically traded places. Luna hadn't planned on streaming that night โ because she had managed to stream last night after her and Foolish cleaned out her closet.
She tilted her head in thought, strumming an A minor chord at what are you doing to me now? It sounded right, so she paused her voice memo and wrote Am down next to those words in her song book. Luna played her voice memo again, switching to a G chord then an F chord for the rest of the line. She nodded to herself before pausing the memo again, writing down the chords. Luna then wrote x2 next to them because the line repeated twice. Luna pressed play on her phone again, and her own voice sang you came out of the blue like that.
"Lunes?" she heard from behind her over the silence of her headphones.
She glanced up, and just as she locked eyes with Foolish, her own voice sang, "I never could've seen you coming, I think you're everything I've wanted . . ."
Luna paused for a moment. Foolish had a backwards snapback on, keeping his long hair away from his face, and was wearing a red and black shark hoodie. However, his appearance wasn't the full reason why she froze. She was smacked in the face with the sudden realization that every lyric that she had come up with so far on this song was about him.
Well, shit.
"Oh, hey," Luna greeted, trying to keep the shakiness out of her voice. She paused her voice memo and took out her AirPods, putting them back in their case. "I didn't interrupt your stream, did I?"
Foolish shook his head. "No, I didn't hear you. I just finished." He nodded to the guitar strapped around her body. "What're you up to?"
"Figuring out chords. If I want to make those plans of an album in February and tour in March come true, I have to finish some things up. This song isn't completely finished, but I can at least get a head start."
"What song is it?"
Luna hesitated for a moment โ she didn't exactly want to let him know that this song was about him, especially since she had just figured it out for herself. "Um, I โ it's called Right now. It's a song about feeling homesick. My house was never much of a home, but I think a lot of people might relate to it."
Foolish walked closer to her and leaned against the kitchen counters, crossing his arms over his chest. "You know, I think you work too hard sometimes. It's late, you can take a break."
Luna raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, how long did you stream for today?"
Foolish's cheeks dusted a light shade of red. "Okay, let's not use that against me."
"Come on, how long?" Luna urged. She moved her guitar to rest against her back and put her hands on her hips. "Nine hours? Ten?"
He averted his gaze to the floor. "Eleven."
"Eleven?" Luna repeated incredulously, her eyes widening. "What the fuck do you even do for twelve hours?"
"A lot of things. Most notably Pigeons Attack."
"What the fuck is Pigeons Attack?"
Foolish let out a small laugh. "It was a game that Miyoung made us play."
Luna thought about it for a moment. "You now, I actually wouldn't put it past her to find a game like that."
"I agree. It's very much a Miyoung game." He nodded to her guitar again. "You gonna put that down, or what? Hang out with me."
Luna sighed. "Fine, but only for a little while."
She lifted up the star guitar strap and removed the instrument from around her. Luna let it rest against the counters in the kitchen and shut her song book before grabbing her phone and slipping it into the back pocket of the jeans she was wearing. Foolish smiled wide and turned around, heading towards his living room. Luna shook her head and followed after him.
"Got any plans for tomorrow?" Luna asked, settling herself down on Foolish's couch and tucking her knees into her chest. "I was going to stream. Not sure what, though."
"It's MCC tomorrow," Foolish answered. "But I might be free after."
"No, don't worry about it. Maybe I'll have a watch party or something. Or just not stream and try and write more."
"Is it hard to balance both? Being a singer and a streamer?"
Luna shrugged. "Not really, honestly. It gets hard sometimes, finding which one to prioritize, but I love both, so I find time for both. Writing is usually reserved for the really late hours where I get in my feelings." Luna giggled slightly at the way Foolish laughed at that. "It just feels nice giving things to my community. One side likes music and one side likes video games. I'm glad to meet in the middle."
"Good thing I'm both," Foolish stated, a smirk on his lips. Luna rolled her eyes playfully and bumped his shoulder with hers. "What? It's true. You know that."
Luna nodded slowly before looking up at him properly. "I do."
However, the moment she moved her head to look at him, he did, too. Just like that, the air suddenly shifted, crackling with electricity and tension all in one. Luna and Foolish were close, extremely close โ physically. So close that if either one of them moved forwards, they would be pushing a boundary that was already starting to crack, and so close that Luna could see the freckles dusting across his cheeks, forming constellations. Luna felt her breath hitch in her throat and her heart pounded against her chest so hard she started to believe it would escape.
Neither of them made a move to separate. It was almost like they were stuck, tied together by some kind of invisible string. Luna could feel gravity โ or perhaps her own imagination โ pulling her towards him even more, but she betrayed her own body and stayed where she was.
She couldn't do this. She couldn't do this, she couldn't do this, she couldn't do thisโ
"Luna," Foolish said softly.
Everything around them seemed to just stop when he said her name.
She swallowed nervously. "Yeah?"
Before her mind registered anything, she saw Foolish's face get closer to hers until she felt a pair of lips press onto her own. It sounds fucking weird, but Luna had been wondering what this could've been like โ kissing Foolish โ ever since they met. She had always thought she would kiss back right away, but here she was, staying in the same spot and not doing anything like a God damn fool because she literally could not believe this was happening.
At the feeling of her shock, Foolish pulled back, but not by much. His lips were centimeters from hers, his nose brushing against hers. Luna let her eyes slowly flutter open โ she hadn't even registered that they had closed โ and looked at him. Foolish's eyes trailed across her face in question. Luna was immediately hit with the fact that Foolish was waiting for her move, because he wasn't going to do anything that she wasn't comfortable with.
She had to do this.
Luna let gravity take over, and she pushed herself forwards, closing the distance between them once more. Foolish immediately responded to her, kissing her back. Now this โ this was what she imagined it to be like. Luna let her knees fall from her chest to have more leverage as she moved closer to him. She had to be close to him, she needed moreโ
Foolish seemed to agree. He leaned across the way and wrapped his one arm around her hips, pulling her towards him and placing her down on his left thigh. She barely had half a mind to realize how easy that was for him, but once she did process that, it made her mind practically go haywire. Foolish kept his one arm there while his other hand reached up and placed itself on the bare skin of her side from where her shirt had ridden up. Luna immediately got shivers from just his touch, and she felt him smile against her. She reached up her own hands and placed them behind his ears where his hat wasn't, threading her fingers through his long hair.
This was everything Luna could've possibly hoped and dreamed for. It had been months of pining, hiding everything even though she wanted to shout that he belonged with her from the rooftops, suddenly exploded into this. Kissing Foolish just seemed to make sense, in a way. It was good, so good that she wondered how the ever-loving fuck she lived without it before. Sure, she had seen Foolish and Mary Jane kiss when they were together, but it never looked this gentle or passionateโ
Wait.
Mary Jane.
Holy shit.
Luna suddenly realized what the fuck she was doing โ kissing her best friend's ex boyfriend, which was definitely a no-go.
The moment then ended, shattered into a million tiny pieces like Cinderella when the clock struck midnight.
Her entire body froze, but not in a good way this time. Luna immediately stopped kissing him, pulling her face away fully from his. Her eyes widened in shock and she scrambled off of him quickly like he was on fire, standing back up with shaking legs that made her stumble back a bit. Luna's chest started to heave up and down โ both from being breathless from what just happened and from panic. She backed away from him, putting a hand on her chest.
What had she just done?
Foolish sat back up straighter, staring at her in concern. "Luna?"
"I don't . . ." Luna trailed off, her mind spinning impossibly fast it was hard to concentrate. "This wasn't supposed to happen."
His eyes flashed with hurt, but Luna was too busy freaking the fuck out to notice. "Luna, waitโ"
"No," she breathed out, shaking her head as she ignored him once again. "No, no, no, what have I done?"
"Wait a second," Foolish insisted, trying to keep his voice steady. "Luna, let's justโ"
Luna pushed her hair back away from her face, tears springing to her eyes at the thought of the look of betrayal that would be on Mary Jane's face. "She's going to hate me, I โ I can't believeโ"
"Luna," Foolish voiced firmly.
Her head snapped over to him, his voice bringing her out from under the water but into a new state of panic. He looked rigid, unlike how fluid he was when they were kissing just a few moments ago. Luna felt her chest get tight โ she was hurting Mary Jane, she was hurting Foolish, she was hurting herself . . . she had to go. It pained her too much to stand here and watch him when all she wanted to do was hide in her room and hope everything would go away.
Luna felt a tear drip down her cheek. "I . . . I have to go."
Foolish shook his head. "Luna, waitโ"
"I'm sorry," she let out, more tears falling now. "We shouldn't have done this. We shouldn'tโ"
She let out a sob and turned around, rushing towards his door. Luna heard his footsteps behind her, but she kept moving, leaving her guitar, headphones, and song book in his kitchen. She ripped open his door and raced down the steps, running across the lawn to her house.
"Luna!" Foolish exclaimed. "Luna, come onโ"
She opened her own door, completely interrupting the self-tape that was going on. Mary Jane and Nolan were by a blank wall in the living room, but the lines Mary Jane was reciting immediately ceased once a crying Luna burst through the door. Luna kept going, her sight set on her room.
"Lunes?" Mary Jane called, and Luna had to bite back a sob as she rushed past her, the guilt eating her alive โ she couldn't even look at her. "Luna, heyโ"
She didn't stop. Luna stumbled up the stairs and into her room, shutting her door firmly behind her. From across the way, she saw the light in Foolish's room turn on. Luna rushed up to her window and clenched onto her curtains.
The last thing she saw was Foolish's panicked face and his pleading eyes before she shut her curtains completely, encasing her room and herself in darkness โ both physically and mentally.
