CHAPTER FORTY-TWO:
STAY OUT OF MY WAY

THEY SAT IN DETENTION, ELAINE, Scott, and Stiles being forced to sit at a separate table away from Jackson once the boy had complained. Elaine didn't even bother to glance at the two boys as she did her homework, the two glanced at her before Scott decided to speak up.

"El, we're sorry."

"You can't not talk to us." Stiles whined, not liking it that the girl was mad at him.

"Not only did I get a restraining order placed on me, but now I have detention because of you. So, thanks so much." Elaine seethed. "So, as far as I'm concerned, I won't be talking to you for a while. I did it once, I can do it again."

"I'm gonna kill him." Scott spoke, looking towards Stiles.

"No, you're not. You're going to find out who's controlling him and then you're gonna help save him."

"No, you were rightβ€•οΈŽlet's kill him."

"Oh no." Stiles mumbled. The boy quickly changed the subject. "Hey, what if it's Matt? I mean, this whole thing comes back to the video, right?"

"Danny said that Matt was the one who found the two hours of footage missing." Scott spoke.

"Exactly! He's trying to throw suspicion off himself." Stiles nodded.

"So, he makes Jackson kill Isaac's dad, one of Argent's Hunters, and the mechanic working on your Jeep. . .?" Elaine piped in, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes!" Stiles nodded, keeping the smile from forming on his face when the girl joined the conversation.

"Why?" Scott asked.

"Because he's evil."

"You just don't like him." Elaine translated.

"The guy bugs me. I don't know what it is. Just look at his face!" Stiles said, pointing to the boy. Scott shook his head.

"Any other theories?"

Jackson stood up, grabbing their attention. He claimed he was going to go to the bathroom, before saying he was going to get some water and walking out. Mr. Harris was quick to follow after him before pointing towards them, telling them to stay in their seats. But of course, as soon as he walked out, the trio exchanged looks before quickly going over to where Erica was sitting.

"Stiles says you know how Jackson's parents died." Scott quickly whispered towards Erica.

"Maybe." She smirked.

"Talk." Scott demanded.

"It was a car accident. My dad was the insurance investigator, and every time he sees Jackson drive by in his Porsche, he makes some comment about the huge settlement he'll be getting when he's eighteen." Erica told them.

"So, not only is Jackson rich now, but he's getting even richer at eighteen?" Stiles asked in disbelief.

"Yep." The girl nodded.

"There's something so deeply wrong with that." Stiles muttered.

"You know what? I could try to find the insurance report on my dad's inbox. He keeps everything." Erica told them, opening her laptop.

"Scott McCall, please report to the principal's office." The over head speaker could be heard with Allison's mother speaking. Scott, Stiles, and Elaine all exchanged a look before Scott stood up and walked out. Elaine looked at Erica, watching as she opened her laptop and started to pull things up whilst Stiles looked over Erica's shoulder. Mr. Harris walked back in, surprisingly ot commenting on the fact that the duo had moved.

"Whoa, look at the dates." Stiles pointed out.

"'Passengers arrived at the hospital DOA. The estimated time of death, 9:26PM, June fourteenth, 1995.'" Erica read making Elaine furrow her eyebrows in confusion.

"Wait, Jackson's birthday is June fifteenth."

Mr. Harris started packing up his stuff, and immediately the students did too but the teacher shook his head, laughing. "Oh, no, I'm sorry. Uh, yes, I'm leaving, but none of you are. You may go when you're done with the re-shelving. Enjoy the rest of your evening." And with that he walked out.

"I hate him so much." Elaine growled, huffing. They all got up and started to shelf the books, Scott having come back, joining Elaine, Stiles and Allison with the cart of books they had brought.

"It means he was born after his mom died by c-section. They had to pull him out of her dead body." Stiles told Allison and Scott after Elaine had taken the time to explain to the two what they had found out from Erica.

"So, was it an accident, or not?" Allison asked, talking about the car accident.

"The word all over the report is 'inconclusive.'" Stiles answered, shrugging his shoulders.

"Then his parents could have been murdered?" Scott frowned.

"If they were, then it falls in line with the Kanima myth." Elaine said, glancing between them "It seeks out and kills murderers."

"But, for Jackson? Or the person controlling him?" Allison asked.

"We have to talk to him. We have to tell him." Scott sighed.

"He's not going to liβ€•οΈŽ" Allison started, only to cut herself off when Scott walked away, however he stopped in his tracks, noticing a book on the floor. The three sighed before putting some of the books on the shelf, quickly stopping what they were doing at the sound of the roof breaking into tiny little pieces along with Scott yelling Erica's name. Allison and Elaine quickly fell down to the floor with the Kanima roughly jumped on the bookshelf beside them, sending books everywhere. Elaine held up her hand, quickly protecting the three from any fallen books or parts of the roof. That's when a yell could be heard falling from Erica's mouth.

The trio all turned their heads upon seeing Scott get thrown into the cart that was right in front of their isle. The boy quickly moved so that he was kneeling down beside of Allison, the four of them sharing looks with one another. They all looked towards Jackson who was standing there, half of his body covered in scales and the other half with human flesh. A chalk board was placed beside him and he held up his hands, his head just hanging there as if he was only in half control of his actions. On the board, he wrote "STAY OUT OF MY WAY OR I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU" and then he quickly leapt out the window.

They all stood up, carefully making their way over to the board when Stiles grabbed their attention, making them turn to see Erica seizing in his arms. "Whoa, hey, hey, hey, hey! I think she's having a seizure." Scott and Elaine quickly went over to the wolf whilst Allison quickly went over to Matt who was lying in the floor, unmoving.

"He's alive." Allison told them.

"Hey, we need to get her to a hospital." Stiles told them.

"Derek. . . only to Derek. . ." Erica weakly spoke.

"When we get her to the hospitalβ€•οΈŽ" Scott spoke, only for Erica to interrupt him, repeating only to take her to Derek.

"Go." Allison nodded. Scott quickly got up, going over to Allison.

"Hey, Scott!" Stiles called out to him, but he ignored him. Elaine shared a worried look with Stiles as they glanced down at the blonde female. Elaine tried to help her in any way she knew how without using her powers, but to no avail

"You two get her to Derek. I'll stay with Allison and Matt." Elaine assured her brother, knowing he was worried for his girlfriend. He gave her a thankful nod before he and Stiles quickly grabbed Erica, running out of the library.

After making sure that Matt had gotten to the hospital safely, Elaine sat in her room with her legs crossed and her lips pursed. She stared blankly at her floor, not even bothering to notice the door opening down stairs or the footsteps that had walked up the steps. Stiles peeked his head around the corner, looking at the girl with a small frown on his face. So much had happened with the girl in the past few weeks, and she just needed a break.

"Elaine?" He carefully spoke up, watching as the girl blinked before looking up at him, a blank expression on her face. He carefully walked into her room, stopping just in front of her bed. "Are you alright?"

"Fine." Elaine mumbled. "Is Erica alright?"

"Yeah, Derek got the venom out and she healed." Stiles nodded his head. "Do you still hate me?"

"I could never hate you Stiles." Elaine whispered. She looked up at him through her eyelashes before she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Look, Stiles, I'm exhausted, alright? I'm going to go to sleep. We'll talk at school tomorrow, alright."

"Yeah, okay." He nodded his head. "But, you're alright though, right?"

"I'm alright." Elaine nodded her head, offering him the smallest of smiles. "You don't have to check in on me every time something happens."

"Of course I do. I worry way too much." Stiles spoke, shrugging his shoulders. Elaine smiled, shaking her head.

"Pick me up in the morning?" Elaine requested. Stiles nodded his head.

"Absolutely."

"Good." Elaine smiled. "I'll see you in the morning, bub."

"See you in the morning." Stiles nodded before walking out her room, allowing the girl to lay on the bed, an exhausted sigh falling from her lips before she fell into a dreamless sleep.

The next morning, Elaine sat in the back of Stiles' jeep whilst Scott sat in the passengers seat, Stiles of course being the driver. They pulled up to the school and got out of the vehicle with Elaine being impatient and crawling through the middle instead of waiting for Stiles to pull the front seat forward so that she could climb out.

"There's got to be some other way to get tickets, right?" Scott asked, having informed the duo of the rave that was taking place that night, which was where they were going to catch the Kanima as well as the person controlling itβ€•οΈŽhopefully.

"It's a secret showβ€•οΈŽthere's only one way, and it's a secret." Stiles emphasized, making Elaine roll her eyes.

"El, you look exhausted." Scott pointed out, frowning as he looked at his sibling. She waved him off.

"I'm always exhausted, Scotty."

"Hey." Matt walked up to the three, making them turn and look at him. "Either of you guys know why no one's getting suspended after what happened the other day at school?"

"Just forget about it. Nobody got hurt." Stiles spoke.

"I-I had a concussion." Matt frowned.

"Well, no one got seriously hurt." Stiles corrected himself.

"I was in the ER for six hours." Matt continued.

"Hey, do you want to know the truth, Matt? Your little bump on the head is about this high on our list of problems right now." Stiles spoke, making his hand hover inches from the ground. Elaine rolled her eyes at the boy.

"Are you okay?" Elaine asked him.

"Yeah, I'm fine now." He nodded towards the girl before looking at Scott. "So, you didn't get any tickets last night, either?"

"Are they still selling?" Scott questioned.

"Uh, no, but I managed to find two online. You should keep trying. Sounds like everyone's gonna be there." Matt told them before turning on his heel and walking away.

"I don't like that guy." Stiles muttered. Elaine gave him a pat on the shoulder, nodding her head.

"We know."

"Try and get a ticket." Scott told his sister who nodded his head.

"Hey, are you sure about this?" Stiles spoke, making the siblings turn towards him.

Scott nodded. "Last time, whoever's controlling Jackson had to kill somebody because he didn't finish the job. So, what do you think he's going to do this time."

"Be there to make sure it happens." Stiles spoke. Scott nodded again before the three entered the school building, all going their separate ways.
