Chapter 38 ~ Bloody Consequences
Author's Note:Β The way I described how humans turn into vampires here is different from SPN's version, more akin to Vampire Diaries and the like. It's just the way that I wanted to write it so there's no need for hate or rude comments. <3
Episode: Season 3 - Fresh Blood Pt. 1
Dean and I hadn't spoken since our kiss. In fact, we were avoiding each other. We didn't even speak on car rides and that was making Sam feeling uncomfortable. Poor thing. Not that I felt bad enough to start talking to Dean, though. No, Sammy would just have to deal with it for the time being. In the meantime, I'd taken a slight vacation from hunting.
Okay...so more like just a day but the boys were okay with it. So I was currently sitting on a bar stool in a club, drowning away my sorrows in bourbon. I downed another shot and slammed the glass cup onto the counter, signaling to the bartender.
"Another!" I called to him.
A masculine voice chuckled beside me and I glanced over at him, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, do you need something?" I challenged.
He grinned and I felt a shiver race down my spine. Something seemed off about him. He had dark hair, gorgeous brown eyes and high cheekbones.
"No, I'm just admiring a pretty girl, that's all," he shrugged, "Didn't think it was a crime. The name's Dixon, by the way,"
I scoffed, "Well, it is to me. So quit gawking, Daryl Dixon,"
He put his hands up in surrender, that grin still fixed in place.
"Didn't mean to offend..." he said, trailing off.
The man was silent beside me then as the bartender walked back over, re-filling my drink. I was prepared to take another swig of it when the man put a hand on my arm, stopping me.
"Excuse me but what are you doing?" I asked him, not even remotely drunk enough to play this cat-and-mouse game with this stranger.
He smiled slowly, removing his hand from my arm to slide me his own shot glass, the cup filled with a mix of dark red and black liquid. I arched an eyebrow as the cup brushed my hand, unsure what that even was.
"Just thought you might want some of mine," he offered.
I crinkled my nose at the idea of drinking after him and waved my hand, "Pass! I'll just stick to this,"
The smile on his face quickly faded at my remark, turning into a deep scowl.
"Well, darling, I'm afraid I wasn't asking," he bit out, his voice lowering to a growl.
I was just about to reach for the knife hidden in my boot when the man snatched his shot glass and forced the cup to my lips. With his other hand, he held onto my arm tightly, his fingers digging into my skin. I tried to push him away but he was stronger than me. The burning liquid slid down my throat and I watched him with wide eyes as the metallic taste of it hit my tongue. As soon as I got a good grip on him, I shoved him in the chest, the cup flying from his hands as I began choking and spluttering.
"What was that stuff?! What is your problem, man?!" I shouted, smacking him across the face with a loud snap!
He glared daggers at me and I made a face at him before grabbing my silver clutch, walking out of the club. When I reached the alley, I tried to spit out the rest of the drink but it was gone by now. I sighed, wiping my mouth on the back of my hand. It came away red though and I frowned. Weirdo. I headed back to the motel then and both the boys looked up as I entered.
From outside, I could hear every single car passing by - lights flashing from cop cars, tires screeching on asphalt, horns honking. I winced, gripping my head.
"Ah, why is everything so loud?!" I shrieked, just wanting it to stop.
Sam was the first to get up, walking over to me and putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Parks, you alright?" he asked in concern.
I shook off his hand, shrugging him off.
"I'm fine," I assured him, squinting at the bright light in the room, "I just had a bad night, that's all,"
I threw my clutch onto the bed before sitting down, holding my head in my hands. I knew the two of them were sharing looks but I didn't even care right now to admonish them for it.
"What happened?" Sam pressed again.
"I-" I started before glancing up at the light again, "Can someone turn that off, please?!"
Reluctantly, Dean got up and did as I'd bid. I sighed, the pain behind my retinas lessening slightly.
"Some guy at the club I went to got fresh with me, shoving some stupid drink down my throat," I grumbled.
"Are you okay?"
I waved Sam off, all the noises around me nearly drowning everything out. All of it together pounded in my skull, making it hard to even think.
"I'm fine! I'm fine, okay!" I snapped, looking up at them.
They both were watching me - as if I was a bomb about to go off.
"Parker, what happened out there? Who was that man?" Dean asked, speaking to me for the first time in days.
My eyes met his green orbs and I saw concern there amidst the residual hurt and anger that I'd ran away from him a few nights ago after our kiss. A sigh escaped my lips and I shook my head.
"I don't know. Does it even matter? I just, I just feel tired and it feels like my head is on fire," I groaned, running a hand through my dark locks, "I'm just gonna go to bed. Okay, guys?"
We all went to bed shortly after that but I couldn't sleep. My head pounded, everything hurt like it was sore, and my gums were aching. Quietly so as not to wake the boys, I crept out of bed and to the bathroom. Leaning on the counter, I took a deep breath as my heartbeat accelerated. What was wrong with me?! I turned on the faucet, splashing some water on my face.
The cool clear liquid dribbled down my face and I sighed as I gazed at my reflection in the mirror. I touched my mouth, feeling the gums hurting there. Hesitantly, I lifted up my upper lip to see what was wrong. But what I found there made me scramble back from the mirror in alarm. Growing right above my incisors were tiny fangs. My eyes looked back into the mirror, horror filling me.
Suddenly, it all made sense - the strange man, the drink, my super hearing. The drink had been blood - his blood and he'd fed it to me.
The man had been a vampire...and now I was turning into one, too.
