You waited outside of the school, books in hand and your bag hanging off of your shoulder. To no surprise, you got paired up with Eddie Munson again for another class project. You weren't sure what the teachers goals were when it came pairing you two together, but let's just say it gave you a headache each time. You groaned and rolled your eyes, checking the watch on your wrist. Ten minutes late. School ended ten minutes ago and he still wasn't here.
Truly, you weren't prepared to ride in Eddie's van. His driving was terrible. You weren't even one hundred percent sure he had his drivers license, but yet he still somewhat knew what he was doing. Each time it felt like he was going to crash into anyone and anything that his eyes could see. It was quite devastating being the passenger. In the back of your head, you would scold him. Tell him that he's an idiot and needs to be more careful, but never dared to say it out loud to his face.
While you were deep in though, the doors to the school busted open. A smiling Eddie walking out, swinging his keys around his fingers. "Sorry." He chuckled, walking up to his van. You rolled your eyes, pushing yourself off of the brick wall as you walked around the van to the passenger side, hand grabbing the handle. Opening the door, you placed your bag down on the seat first before pulling yourself up and sitting down. "I'm gonna be completely honest with you...I have no idea what we're doing for this project." Eddie shut his door.
You shut yours before turning to look at him, reaching into your bag for the paper the teacher had handed everyone. "Here. Read." You bluntly spoke, practically shoving the paper into his hands that were adorned with rings. Eddie grabbed the paper from you, bringing it close to his face. "Research...topic...volcanos." Eddie murmured under his breath, furrowing his brows as he read the paper. He was taking entirely too long to read it. You sighed, snatching the paper from him, "we have to research volcanos and make a poster board about it." You explained as simple as you could. "Oh...sounds simple." Eddie spoke.
Shaking your head at his response, you knew you were just going to be filled with disappointment the entire time working on this with him. He barely put effort into doing anything. And you weren't sure if it was because he just didn't care, or if he was so tired of school because he's stayed back twice already, or if he was just using you to do all of the work so he could get an easy grade and finally graduate. Eddie pulled out of school parking lot, pressing on the gas as he sped down the road, making his way to his trailer.
Eddie would glance at you from time to time, watching how you would sit there, arms folding across your chest while you stared out the window, completely quiet. "You know you could talk, right?" Eddie adjusted in his seat. You slowly turned your head, "I know. Just don't want to." You spoke lowly, turning your head back to the window. "Okay." Eddie tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. He hummed some song, bopping his head to the tune as he drove. Exhaling, you watched the road, feeling nervous from how fast he was going. You knew he had to take a right to make it to the trailer park, but he was barely letting off of the gas.
"Eddie, slow down." You looked at him, adjusting your seatbelt. "We're fine." He blew air past his lips, dismissing you. "Uh, no! Slow down before you make the turn!" You spoke a little louder, your eyes glancing at the road. You braces for impact, holding onto the dashboard with your eyes clenched shut as Eddie took the turn. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god." You nervously muttered, as the tired screeched against the road.
"See!" Eddie said with a bright smile on his face, hitting the steering wheel. "You could've gotten us killed!" You said through clenched teeth, whipping your head to look at him. "We're fine! Nothing to worry about!" Eddie wasn't focusing on the road at all. His focus was on you, laughing at the annoyance written all over your face. Eddie grabbed ahold your sweater, shaking you back and forth as he laughed. "Don't touch me! And focus on the road!" You swatted his hand away, furrowing your brows in anger.
You held onto your bag tightly as he pulled into the trailer park, roughly pulling into the spot where he parked his car outside his trailer. Eddie took the keys out of the ignition, looking at you, "ready?" He asked, tossing his keys into the air. "No." You simply responded, opening the passenger door and hopping out of the van. The trailer park was quiet, as it usually was. You walked around the front of the car, tossing your bag over your shoulder as Eddie walked up to his front door. "Should be unlocked..." He huffed, twisting the knob. The door opened slowly as he gave it a small push. "Ladies first." He motioned with his hand.
"Thanks." You mumbled, walking past him up the stairs. Walking into the familiar trailer, you still felt uncomfortable because you weren't used it and you weren't exactly close with Eddie. You stood in the living room area as he closed the door behind him. "Shit," Eddie looked around seeing the mess he left everywhere. "Sorry. It's a mess. Uh..." Eddie scrambled around, picking up trash off of the floor and small table by the door, rushing to the garbage can that sat in the kitchen. "It's fine." You assured him.
From down the hall, you could see his room, catching a small glimpse of his guitar that sat above the mirror. "Uh, we could head to my room." Eddie wiped his hands on his jeans as he looked at you, awkwardly. "Yeah, right." You nodded, feeling the carpet under your feet as you walked down the hall. You cautiously opened the door to his room, flicking on the light. "Yeah, I don't have much time to...clean." Eddie kicked a pile of clothes to the corner of his room. "It's fine. My room sometimes looks worse." You cleared your throat, plopping down on his bed.
You look over at his bedside table, seeing a bong sitting out in the open. You raised your brows at the sight, slightly surprised he would just have it out there like that. Flickering your eyes away from it, you focused your attention on your bag, digging through it for the books you borrowed from the library. "Here. This one's yours." You look at Eddie as he sits beside you, his eyes fixated on the book. He slowly reaches for it, frowning. "Do we really have to work on this today? I mean, every time you come here you seem miserable." Eddie tossed the book to the side with no remorse.
"Because I am." You answered truthfully, not wanting to look at him. "You're no fun." Eddie laid flat on his bed, rolling his eyes. "Don't care." You clicked your pen as you opened your notebook, ready to write down facts that could be useful to your project. "Are you at least going to talk?" Eddie looked at you from the side, watching as laid the book down on his bed, skimming through it. There was no answer from you. Eddie clenched his eyes shut, running his hands down his face. "Really? We're just gonna sit in silence?" He asked.
No answer. "Y/n..." Eddie blinked. No response. "Y/n..." Eddie said in a sing-song voice. You took a deep breath in, trying to ignore him as best as you could. "Y/n." Eddie smirked, propping himself up on his elbows. "Listen Munson, I just wanna get this done and go home, okay? Now will you please just let me be or at least try to help me with something. It's for the both of us." You sighed, rubbing your forehead. "Music? Music." Eddie chuckled, quickly standing to his feet as he grabbed his guitar off of the wall. "No-"
"Too late." Eddie plugged it into his amp that sat against the wall. "Munson, I swear to god. Please, just work on this!" You beckoned, slamming your pen down on the notebook. Eddie turned the dials on the amps, getting prepared to play. "I can't." You shook your head, slamming your notebook shut and stuffing it into your bag. You grabbed the two informational books as well, holding them in your arms as you threw your bag over your shoulder. Standing to your feet, you began walking out of Eddie's room, making your way to the front door.
"Hey, where are you going?" Eddie asked, watching you walk out his room. You just kept walking. Eddie placed his guitar on the bed, running after you. He could see you leave the trailer in frustration. He opened the door, running down the steps, "y/n! Where are you going?" He asked, running after you. He was able to stop you, grabbing onto your shoulder. "I'm going home. Now move." You tried to push past him but he stopped you once again. "At least let me give you a ride-"
"No thanks. I'm safer walking. See you tomorrow, Munson."
