CHAPTER EIGHT | WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE BOURBON STREET

STEFAN AND EVELYN HAD SPENT THE NIGHT AT CAROLINE'S AFTER THE REVELATION. They truly believed that it was logical that Elena was sired to Damon. There was too much evidence to ignore it. Everyone said that Elena had changed the minute she turned, maybe this was why.
"This is a disaster!" Caroline exclaimed while Evelyn laid curled up in an armchair. She didn't get much sleeping during the night. All she could think about was Elena's sire bond, and what that meant for her and Damon.
Stefan exhaled deeply as she folded up the duvet he used. "Look, we don't know anything for sure."
"Yes, we do. Elena is sired to Damon, which means her one singular burning desire is to make him happy, just like Klaus and his Hybrids." The Forbes girl continued to speak about the sire bond, despite Evelyn's grunts.
"No, it's not." Stefan immediately shook his head. "A vampire sired to another vampire is one in a million. Maybe it won't affect her the same way."
"Well, theoretically speaking, they're both pretty much the same, whether it's a vampire sired to another vampire; the aspect of siring is still exactly the same." The Austin vampire explained for the benefit of Stefan and Caroline, though she pushed a pillow in front of her face to hide her despair.
"See! We already know it's affecting her. She's become Damon's lapdog. Everything he says, she agrees with and everything he asks her to do, she does. We need to do something." Caroline rolled her eyes and immediately yanked her phone out from her pocket.
"Wait, no. Hold on, Caroline, this isn't gossip. You can't just drop this on her before we know it's happening for sure."
"I need to talk to Tyler, maybe he'll know what to do."
Evelyn finally removed the pillow from her face and turned her gaze toward Stefan with a look of sadness in her eyes. "I think you and I need to go and have a word with Damon, don't you?"

"Sired? Really, Stefan?" Damon scoffed. He didn't believe anything that Evelyn and Stefan had said about Elena being sired to him. He didn't even think it was a possibility. "That is the most pathetic nonsense I've heard come out of your mouth and you've said some crap in your day."
"Perhaps stop being a stubborn dumbass and think about it for a second." Evelyn exhaled deeply and rolled her eyes at Damon's inability to see the truth. "Your blood turned her, right?"
"And she's been different from day one because of you. You can't deny that." Stefan carried on from Evelyn, who seemed irritated by Damom' attitude.
"Sure I can." Damon gritted his teeth and shook his head. "I finally got Elena to a good place about being a vampire and you three idiots can't stand that she's happy because of me."
Evelyn's face immediately dropped. Stefan leaned forward. "Alright. You know, what? Prove us wrong. Tell her it's okay to drink from a blood bag."
"She can't. Her weird doppelganger body rejected the blood from the bag."
"Yeah, only because you told her she could only drink warm human blood straight from the vein." Evelyn glared at Damon with a pained look. "Just tell her to drink from the bag and tell her it'll make you so damn happy if she does. If it works, well apologize."
The look in Evelyn's eyes was enough to make Damon cave. He could see how upset she was. "When her body rejects this blood, which it will, your apology better be epic."

The Forbes vampire had invited Evelyn to girls night. It was a chance for Evelyn to get to know Elena and Bonnie just as well as she had gotten to know Caroline. Evelyn struggled with bonding, so Caroline sought to help the girl make a few friends. Since both Damon and Stefan were out of town for the night, Evelyn suggested the vampires held their party at the very-empty, Salvatore-free boarding house.
The doppelganger gave the all three a of champagne. Bonnie furrowed her brows and had a look inside the box and found a few bloodbags. "Uh, I'm assuming these are for Caroline and Evelyn?"
"Oh, thank god." Evelyn exclaimed in a desperate tone as her eyes fixed to the bag of crimson liquid. "I'm absolutely dying for a drink."
Elena shook her head and grabbed the bloodbag before Evelyn had a chance to take it. "Actually, it's for me. Thanks to Damon, I am now a functional, dysfunctional vampire." The doppelganger grinned as she placed the straw up to her lips.
Caroline and Evelyn glared at each other. They both knew about Damon's task to use the sirebond to tell Elena it was okay to drink from bloodbags, and now she could. "Um. Wait, what do you mean?" Evelyn furrowed her brows. "I didn't think you could?"
"Well, he suggested that I try it again. So I did, and it worked. No more snatch, eat, erase." Elena explained to the brunette vampire with a proud smile on her face.
"So, where is my least-favorite Salvatore?" Caroline glanced around the house and then turned to Evelyn.
"Uh, something about an impromptu guys night." The Austin vampire vaguely explained. "Figured if they wanted to have a guys night, we could have our girl's night here."
Elena pulled out her phone and read a text aloud from the Salvatore brother himself. "Out with Stefan for the night. Don't wait upβbrother bonding." She smiled eagerly toward the group but didn't notice the fact that Evelyn's face had fallen upon hearing that Damon texted her, too.
"Hmm. So you guys check-in text now?" Caroline asked with a tone of annoyance. "What else do you do?"
"I know that you're not the biggest fan, but he kind of just changed my life. Would you mind laying off on all the hate?" The doppelganger asked the Forbes girl as her face slowly softened.
"Okay, new girls' night ruleβno boy talk, yeah?" Bonnie looked around at the girls and then held a bag filled with herbs with an excited look on her face. "Plus, why talk when we have this? It's spirit tea. It opens up your chi, or whatever." The three girls didn't seem too convinced. "Come on. It's not drugs. Shane is helping me do natural magic without having to access the spirits. Don't judge. "
"Okay. Fine." All three girls glared at Caroline, who lifted her hands up in surrender. "I hereby vow not to be judgemental for the rest of the evening."
They clinked their champagne bottles together and then let the music blare throughout the house. Between their bonding and drinking, Evelyn had become fast friends with Elena and Bonnie. She didn't know whether it was the alcohol or the stoner-tea that helped, but she appreciated it.
The four girls had headed upstairs and somehow found their way into Damon's bathroom. Elena was the first to jump into his bathtub, while Bonnie, Evelyn and, Caroline all sat around the floor giggling.
"Check this out. Vamp-speed video." Bonnie smirked as she sent a video to Elena's phone.
"I look like Superman. Watch this." Elena chuckled and paused the video then turned her phone around. "This year's Christmas card. Being a vampire is so weird. Oh, my God. I love this bathtub. Why don't we come and hang out here more often?"
"I'll tell you whyβCooties. Think of all the germ-ridden skanks that Damon has lured into his den of iniquity." Caroline chuckled to herself, but then she immediately noticed the look on both Elena and Evelyn's faces. "Okay. I'm sorry. I've been good all night, I am stopping now."
"No, don't stop on my account. Rip away. I mean, It's only Damon, right?" Elena narrowed her eyes and glared to Caroline.
"Damon's got a past of being an obvious playboy. There's no point in denying it, Elena." Evelyn shrugged. She had heard from Stefan himself that Damon loved two things: Blood and women.
"I am just curious, though." Elena carried on with her eyes firmly on Caroline. "What exactly was it about him that made you jump right into bed with him as soon as you met him?"
Evelyn's eyes widened as she turned to Caroline. She didn't know that Caroline was one of the many females Damon Salvatore had lured into bed. "I didn't know what a sociopathic narcissist he was."
"He's always been there for me when I needed him." Elena shrugged instantly.
"No offense, but it's probably because you look like Katherine." Evelyn shrugged immediately with a smile. "That and the fact that he wanted to sleep with you."
"Well, maybe I did." A small smirk appeared on Elena's face as she noticed Evelyn turn white as a sheet.
"You did, what?" Evelyn gritted her teeth as she saw the unremorsful, almost gloating look on Elena's doppelganger face.
"Yeah, I did." Elena shrugged and then looked between Caroline and Bonnie. "Look, I know you two have issues with him, but I'm happy and I wanted to spend tonight with my best friends so that I could tell them about it." The doppelganger snapped pulled herself out of the bathtub, but that was when Evelyn sped forward and grabbed her by the throat.
"What is your problem, huh?" Evelyn snapped viciously as her manicured nails were wrapped around Elena's throat tightly. "I don't know if you're stupid or just a careless little bitch, I really can't tell."
"You care about him, don't you?" Elena asked with a strained voice while Caroline stepped forward and placed her hand on Evelyn's forearm. "Come on. If you didn't you wouldn't have reacted like this."
"Eve, let her go." Caroline's stern voice rang through Evelyn's ears, but all she could think about was tearing Elena's head off. "Evelyn!"
The Austin vampire relented her grip upon Elena's throat and shoved her backwards a little before she stormed out of the bathroom and into her own bedroom. All she wanted to do was get the hell out of the Salvatore house so she began to grab a duffle bag and throw whatever clothes she could find into it.
"Evelyn, are you okay?" Caroline appeared in her doorway while the vampire frantically wandered around her bedroom collecting her things. "Evelyn, talk to me."
"I'm just wonderful, Caroline." She snapped and then turned around to look at the blonde. "You know, I didn't think I would care. I didn't think I'd be this damn upset about Damon sleeping with Elena. God, I don't know whether it's because she looks just like Katherine or the fact that I was stupid enough to think that maybe, just maybe he cared about me, too."
The Forbes girl stepped forward and grabbed the duffle bag. "Well, you can't stay here tonight. You're staying with me at my place. No arguments, okay."
Evelyn's face softened as she looked at Caroline. "Thank you, Care. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you."
