So I'd been at the glade for about two years. Everyone agreed not to tell anyone about the things that happened a few months ago, and I loved them for respecting me enough to keep at least one secret.

"WAKEY WAKEY LOVE BIRDS!" Fry hit two pans together while making his way into my room.

"Slinthead." I mumbled and I felt Gally chuckle into my back.

"GUYS? HELLO! GET UP! Y/n, you need to help me with cooking. New greenie today!" Fry grabbed my arm and pulled me out the bed causing me to hit the hard wooden floor with a thud.

"Do you mind?" I stood up and gave him a look.

"No, I don't. Now come help." He left, making a beat with the frying pans.

"I swear I will murder that shank one day." I rolled my eyes and jumped into my everyday clothes.

The same ones, like always. Not like I cared. To switch it up I sometimes pulled on Gally's top while he worked without it.

Gally had fallen back asleep and I had to wake up him.

"Gall. Gally." I prodded his face until his eyes opened. "Woah, you are alive."

He just groaned in response.

"Get up. I'm off to help Fry. Talk to you later, love you." I planted a kiss on his forehead before leaving.

"Y'know Frypan I swear you will be the death of me." I grabbed the pans and plates and continued to help him get all the food for the day done.

"You know you love me." He nudged me gently.

"Sadly.." I joked.

"Hello. What are you shanks doing?" Newt leaned on the table I was using to cut the veg.

"Fry likes to get all the chopping and stuff done before the day starts."

"Everyday?"

"No, only on the day that the Greenie comes up." I shrugged.

"Let's hope that the greenie that comes today is quick enough to be a runner."

"Why?"

"We need more. You, Alby, Minho and Ben can't do it all the time."

"We can, because we have been for more than a year now. It's not difficult. We all know the maze off by heart, me and Minho know it better than the others." I explained while chopping a pepper.

"True. How's your fighting going?" Newt asked.

I forgot to mention, I had been training myself to fight. Self defence. I needed it, considering what happened. I'd been using trees as people. Throwing knives and punches were the things I was best at, occasionally Ben would help.

"Good. Really good."

"I can tell."

"What? How?"

"You're getting abs." He laughed.

"I already had those.." I scratched my neck.

I didn't.

"Sure you did. I better get going now. Thanks for th-" he went to grab a piece of the pepper but I stopped him by stabbing the knife into the table between his fingers.

His eyes widened before he slowly removed his hand, being cautious of the blade. I was about to make a remark when we all heard the rumbling noise of the box.

"Let's hope he's a runner." Frypan patted my back as he ran towards the hole in the ground like everyone else.

I just walked, taking my time. It was just going to be another cocky boy.

I reached the edge and stood next to Gally. I was wrong. It was not a cocky boy. It was a scared, young one. He looked about 12-13 and he was cowering in the corner.

Gally stepped forward to jump in but I knew he would only scare the greenie more so I went instead.

"Hey.." I whispered to the boy.

"W-where am I?" He stuttered.

"The glade. If you get out we can show you. We won't hurt you." I smiled.

He looked behind me at all the gladers. That made him even more anxious.

"I think I peed myself." He went bright red.

"It's okay. Some of them did." I chuckled, "Now, you can take your time but just saying, they are gonna get hella impatient if you don't get out soon and you don't want that. Come on." I held out my hand and helped him out the box.

His head whipped round in every direction and his mouth hung open. To anyone new, it was always an amazing, yet confusing sight.

"This is The Glade. I swear no one here is going to hurt you. They seem scary at first put I promise they are nice at heart." I kneeled down in front of him.

"O-okay.. what's your name?" He asked shakily but he was slowly calming.

"Y/n. Do you know yours? It's okay if not, it will come back to you in a few days."

"You have a nice name. My names... I- I- don't know, sorry." He bit his lip attempting not to cry.

This poor boy. Why the hell would the creators sending a shucking child?

"Hey. You don't have to apologise to me. It will come back to you. For now I will let Fry give you a tour because I have something's to do. But Frypan is probably one of the nicest boys here. Trust him." I ruffled his hair before calling Fry over. He knew what to do so I left them to it.

"What's he like?" Gally asked me while we walked to the forest to get wood.

"He's scared. But he's also sweet. He'll be okay I reckon."

"Good. You dealt with him well."

"I can be nice as well you know." I laughed as I grabbed an axe out of a log.

"Oh trust me I know. I pretty sure I'm the only one who's since your truly nice side more than once."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Just back there you were being truly nice. It doesn't happen much."

"Oh, shut up. I'm always nice." I nudged him before hitting the wood with my axe.

-

"It's bonfire time, cmon!" Newt beckoned me over to the fire.

"One second." I held up a finger. I walked off to find the greenie.

"Y/n?" A voice spoke from behind me.

"That's my name." I whipped round and he was in front of me, standing next to his hammock. He didn't speak again so I did.

"There's a bonfire. You have to come. So let's get going." I usher him out the door and over to everyone else.

"Y/N! You going to help me with the food?" Fry asked as I walked past him.

"What do you mean? We did it this morning." I grab the green beans arm telling him to wait.

"We didn't do much. Plus, it needs plating out. You know that these lazy shanks won't do it."

"Sorry, bud. But I'm on greenie duty. Byeeee" I trailed off and gently pulled greenie with me.

"Greenie? What's a greenie?" The little boy asked when we slowed down.

"It's just what we call the people who don't know their name yet. Don't worry about it. It doesn't mean anything bad."

"What's he doing?" He pointed to Gally who was fighting.

"It's a thing he does every bonfire. He likes to think he's the best but I've beaten him." I laughed.

Gally must have heard what I said because his head turned to me. He made sure to win the round he was playing before calling me over.

"Want another try at beating me?" I stepped into the circle and stood inches away from Gally.

"Very funny, y/n. You got this."

"I got this? What about you?"

I moved away from him so I could get in my starting position. One foot in front of the other. He did the same, his eyes not leaving mine.

We kept our distance while we walked round in circles making sure to keep eye contact. Gally charged at me and I jumped out of the way. He tumbled to the floor but he stayed in the circle.

He stood up but I kicked the back of his left knee causing him to fall but still in the circle. Gally got up and made sure to move quickly so I couldn't hit him again. He was on the very edge of the circle and he didn't realise how close he was.

I smirked knowing I had won before it even happened. I ran at him and shoved him, hard, making him fall to the ground, outside the circle.

I fell on top of him a few seconds after and we stared at each other for a bit until I heard a whisper.

"What are they doing?" It was the greenie and he was talking to Newt.

"It's sexual tension, mate."

I mentally laughed at his comment while standing up. I stuck a hand out to help Gally up but before he grabbed it, I moved it away so he fell right back down.

A stern look covered his face and he stood up. He began to walk up to me trying to be intimidating but I stood my ground and didn't move. He stopped so our faces were centimetres away, our noses practically touching.

"Don't-do-that-again." He growled quietly into my ear and it sent shivers up my spine.

"Yes, father." I joked, licking my lips.

"Okay!" Newt clapped his hands causing everyone to take their attention off us and onto him but not Gally and I - we just kept staring at each other, not blinking.

"GUYS!" He shouted again but we didn't budge. "I swear to the creators." He mumbled while pinching the bridge of his noise.

Gally finally blinked and I smirked.

"I won." I muttered loud enough so only he could hear.
