CHAPTER 48
Chapter 48
Cushane's pov
5 months later
Wherever Lamais goes she thrives, she is like a breath of fresh air that blows on you and immediately puts light into your day if it's dull. Under no circumstances am I allowing her to go back to Fort Augustus to preach in her condition, the head of the Pentecostal churches will have to send someone else. The thirty inmates that had gotten baptized five months ago writes to her practically every day and now that Karly, Christopher and their children have moved over into their own house, I worry about her being alone when I'm not at home. Her willingness to go to Fort Augustus prison to encourage the inmates in the faith and try to save more souls is admirable, but she's almost due to give birth so it is a no for me.
I couldn't help myself admiring her as she walk ahead of me over to the church beside Shanty, I've got more than a hundred pictures of her in my phone but they aren't enough. Each dress she wears seem more beautiful than the last and whenever she wears jeans pants with her stylish tops or regular blouse, I still feel the same. I hand Kemar my phone and Shanty pause at the fence where the beautiful croton flowers are, this cause Lamais to pause as well. Her vexed expression greeted me as she turn around and I bit down on my bottom lip.
For once I appreciate Shanty intervening into our relationship as she tells Lamais. "Put a smile on your face and stop behaving like a stubborn child."
She too is against Lamais going to Fort Augustus prison and told her in front of everyone that she agreed with me on the matter. It's been two days now and Lamais is still vexed with all of us, but boy am I glad to have Shanty on my side with this one or else I may have looked like a selfish husband, who is stopping his wife from preaching the word of salvation to the female incarcerated inmates. Or whatever else those who hear may have had to say.
After a couple pictures by herself Kemar took some with both of us, then us and Shanty who wouldn't stop keeping up folly until she got Lamais to start laughing. The mood was lighter as we entered into the church and the service was a blessing. It seem like only yesterday but we have came a far way, the church was half filled with members and things were flowing as organized. There wasn't any dispute that hadn't been able to settled after a counseling session with our bishop. Order, discipline and respect is the virtue of the church and the church leader.
The following Monday morning the mail man came as I was driving out, I collected the mails and thank him. Nicole's hand writing and name pops out at me from one of them and I toss it in the front passenger seat of my car, before taking the rest inside. I was filled with anger at her for writing Lamais and pulled over unto the side of the road to read it a short while after driving out.
Dear Bishop Lamais, I hope this letter finds you in good health. I must say you've managed to keep your pregnancy well hidden, but has things goes no news stay hidden for long. As you suppose to know by now that church goers are the worst gossip, they tear you down behind your back and talk about how righteous they are in front of you. They are like you, they love self praise. I know you'll be saying in your head that I'm rude to write you this, but as a read-er woman you're blind from the truth. Your husband lay with me and impregnated me, the evil woman that you are you didn't took pity on me, instead you watch me lose my mind and do stupidly. I know you're happy now that I'm in prison, having woman ravishing me whenever they chooses. Let me tell you this I hope your child dies just like how you have killed mines...
I stopped reading as I was filled with so much anger I began to pound the steering wheel and vent. "Ohhhh pleaseeee God forgive my angry words, but pleassseee pleassseee make this selfish, horrible bitch Nicola dies!"
My hands hurt from hitting the steering wheels and I'm breathing heavily, filled with anger. A sudden knock on my window made me snap my head around in fright, Minister Kirkland and Christopher stood there and I open my door with my face marred in surprise to see them. Before I could even greet them they both reach for the letter that was discarded on my lap, I was too surprised to say anything and sat staring at both of them.
Minister Kirkland begins to speak and I listened."Your wife already knew about this incident and has put things in place for your protection. She's not just a read-er woman, she is a read-er woman. God, did not make anyone evil they choose to be, words spoken without power and conviction is meaningless, don't ever let Nicola cause you to err from the good you know."
I nodded in understanding now feeling calm because of their presence, I was no longer in the mood for work so I tell them. "I think I'm going to go back home."
"Your darling wife is waiting for you," Christopher say with a smile.
Lamais's pov
Karly held my left hand and rub my back gently as I croon in pain from another contraction. There were many things I foresee as a read-er woman, I don't speak about them because not everything is meant to reach ears that lack understanding and like grandma always say, "certain things must be kept with us read-er." I hear the sound of Cushane's car driving in then Shanty directing him to park close to the verandah. Karly took up my bag that I will be taking to the hospital with me and walk out unto the verandah.
"She's in labor?!" I hear Cushane's deep velvety masculine voice ask in surprise.
The place grew suddenly quiet and I was filled with the Holy Ghost, through the spirit I heard Shanty speaking in tongues as I halt from my uttering and then they were all beside me. Cushane took my right hand and kiss my knuckles, as I have foreseen it so it happened. When our eyes connected he touch my belly and as the shield that he is for me I made him foresee into the future through our baby.
"Uh! What just happened?" He gasp asking and I begin to grin while shaking in pain from another contraction.
2 hours later...
"I love you so so much," Cushane whispered.
"I love you so so much too," I tell him.
He peck my forehead and lean away to admire our daughter again, he's like a ball of emotion sitting on a chair beside the hospital bed and I felt even more loved and appreciated. The phone binged with a group message and I look at it and saw that Karly had responded to queries about our upcoming convention, I smile as a barrage ideas began to form in my head. The convention is going to be bigger, souls are going to be saved, blessings will be poured down and when my time on this earth is over I'll be happy that I did my best.
Cushane answer his phone and smiled brightly, I immediately knew it is his parents and all the congratulations began pouring in from then on. I look at my daughter whose tiny hand brush against my cheek and then at him and whisper. "She's a read-er."
